Nikki came into the main house after her walk, and Victor told her he knew she’d been searching the grounds for signs of Adam. He stated that Adam wasn’t there. She asked if Victoria was correct about the glass of scotch belonging to Adam. Victor said Victoria was right, but Adam wasn’t there anymore. Nikki wasn’t happy Victor harbored a fugitive, which was called aiding and abetting. He was unapologetic and said he wouldn’t turn his back on his son. She assumed he pulled out the stops to help Adam disappear, but he said he didn’t. She asked if he was interfering with the sale of Cyaxares to Newman. He countered that it was Victoria who nixed the deal he made for Cyaxares. He said Victoria only became interested in the company because she didn’t want Adam to run it. Nikki said she and Victor both knew it was more than that. She added that Locke was the one who reopened negotiations, and she asked what Victoria was supposed to do. He didn’t think Victoria should’ve bid against him – they were family and they were supposed to stick together. Nikki stated that the rest of the family didn’t feel compelled to coddle the man who’d ripped the family apart countless times. Victor said Nikki was a woman and a mother, and Adam needed help. She asked why he couldn’t buy Adam a different company. He was sorry she was stuck between her husband and daughter, but he suggested that she not get involved. He said he and Victoria would work things out, as always.

At Society, Ashland asked Kyle what they had to talk about. Tara rushed up, and Ashland noted that Kyle didn’t seem surprised to see her. Tara took Ashland aside and asked why he was sending her calls to voicemail. He asked how she knew where to find him. She said she followed Kyle, because she knew he was looking for Ashland. Ashland assumed this meant Tara and Kyle had been in touch. Across the room, Jack was frustrated because he told Kyle to stay away from Ashland. Kyle thought it was obvious that Ashland knew or suspected something happened with him and Tara. He felt that he had to lay his cards on the table. Kyle noticed Ashland glaring at him.

Tara asked Ashland to go back to NY, so they could talk away from the Abbotts. He accused her of protecting Kyle. She said she was protecting the life she and Ashland built together. She asked him to go talk to her in private. Kyle rushed over to confront Ashland, Jack grabbed at Kyle to stop him, but Kyle slapped his hand away. “Enough with the games. I have something to say to you,” Kyle announced. Ashland didn’t have time. He was late for a meeting. Ashland and Tara left. Kyle couldn’t believe Tara just got in his way. Jack thought Kyle should consider himself lucky, because she may have just done him a huge favor. Kyle didn’t feel good about Tara handling Locke by herself. Jack said his concern was Kyle and Jabot, in that order. Summer came in. She just saw Ashland and Tara storm out, and she wanted to know if the confrontation happened. Kyle brought her up to speed. Jack added that Ashland was meeting with Victor. Summer asked Jack if his phone was off. It was, as he didn’t want to be interrupted. She told him to ignore the million voicemails she left trying to warn him about Kyle’s plans.

Jack revealed that Ashland said he pulled out of the Jabot deal because of something Kyle did. Hearing this made Kyle even more resolved to face up to what he’d done. He was going to offer to walk away from Jabot in exchange for Ashland leaving Jabot and Kyle’s family alone. Jack thought it was great that Kyle was willing to fall on his sword for the company, but this could backfire. Kyle was sure he could handle Ashland. Jack knew men like Locke, and confronting him would only fuel the flame. Summer added that Locke made her grandfather look like a choirboy. Jack said they could debate that another time. In the meantime, he wanted Kyle to let him negotiate with Ashland. Jack turned on his phone and was alarmed. He said they had to get back to Jabot now.

At Jabot, Jack talked with Jabot’s Hartford plant on the phone. He instructed them to figure out what happened and get it reversed. He told Kyle that Hartford was visited by local inspectors and cited with health and safety violations. Kyle knew that was impossible because Jabot lead the industry in keeping operations squeaky clean. Jack said the manager at Hartford ran a tight ship – there was no inspection at all, they were just served with papers and told to shut it down. Kyle was sure Ashland was getting revenge for the affair. Jack said there was no evidence of that. Summer assumed there was a contingency plan in place for emergencies, and Jack said there was. He made a few calls and got people working on it. Kyle said they’d have to expand production in Chicago. He’d called he legal team to figure out how to get the plants back online. Jack got a call informing him that the plant in Chicago had been shut down too.

Jack called another Jabot plant and told them to hire more people to ramp up production. He had to end the call to take another. He assured the person on the other line that they didn’t do anything wrong and that this was a coordinated attack aimed at multiple sites. Summer had an idea, and Kyle said he’d listen to it as soon as he called the manager in San Diego. Summer left. Later, Kyle summarized the situation – San Diego, Chicago and Hartford were shut down, the manufacturing group was in chaos. He apologized to Jack. He’d expected Ashland to strike out, but he didn’t think Ashland would go this far this fast. Jack didn’t blame Kyle. He said their team could handle emergencies, thought maybe not at this scale. After everything that happened Jack was inclined to agree that Ashland was behind this. Kyle said the people Ashland was hurting the most were the Jabot employees. That made Jack livid. Kyle said the brand would be destroyed if the rumors about the employees being exploited kept spreading. This reminded Jack of the tainted face cream scandal that nearly destroyed Jabot. He knew that was what Locke had in mind.

Victor talked with Ashland on the phone. Victoria showed up at the main house and told Victor that Ashland was holding off on finalizing the deal. Victor noted that it wasn’t so long ago that Victoria was rubbing his nose in the deal she’d made with Ashland. She assumed he’d been working to undermine him. She said he’d claimed he’d go to the ends of the earth for his children, but she felt that he only meant he’d do it for Adam. Victor didn’t think this had anything to do with Adam. He felt that Victoria betrayed him by opposing his bid for Cyaxares, but she said it was business. He maintained that family came first, and she asked if he meant Adam. He wanted her to leave Adam out of it, but she countered that Victor never did. She said that Adam was the reason he bought the company – to get back at Billy for publishing the article, even though every word was true. He asked if she was still defending that SOB, Billy Boy after what he’d done to her. She contended that Victor had gone above and beyond being loyal to Adam, and now he was complicit in Adam’s crimes. She thought Ashland would be a fool to let his name and reputation be dragged through the mud with Adam and Victor. He said he’d tell Ashland how she felt, and she said good. Nikki walked in, and Victoria told Victor that this wasn’t over. He agreed. Victoria stalked out, even though Nikki asked her to stay. Victor was sure that Victoria would come around once she found out Adam was innocent, and she’d realize he and Victor were in the right. Nikki asked if he cared about the damage he was doing to his relationship with Victoria. He said of course he cared, but he wasn’t going to drop his bid for Cyaxares. She didn’t want to be around for his meeting with Ashland. He thought that was a good idea.

Nikki tracked Victoria down at Crimson Lights. Victoria hoped Victor didn’t send Nikki to smooth things over. She had no intention of forgiving and forgetting. Nikki made the decision to com on her own. Victoria noted that it was Victor’s idea for Newman to buy Cyaxares in the first place. She felt he should support what she was trying to do. She noted that her victory would come at Adam’s expense. Nikki just wanted to warn Victoria that Ashland was on the way to the ranch to meet with Victor. Victoria felt Ashland and Victor were two of a kind. She said Ashland was playing father against daughter, and he chose between her and Billy in a coin toss, because he knew that both of them would push Victor’s buttons. Nikki thought Ashland realized quickly that it wasn’t so easy to manipulate Victor. She said Victor knew how to get what he wanted, and God help the person who tried to get him to change directions. “You’re not talking about Locke anymore are you? You’re talking about me,” Victoria replied.

Nikki shared Victoria’s frustration that Victor kept protecting Adam. She’d told him that many times, but one of Victor’s core convictions was his refusal to turn his back on any of his children. Victoria grumbled that it depended on the child. She felt that Victor had just tried to screw her over. Nikki siad Victor didn’t see it that way. Victoria felt that Victor didn’t see her at all. Nikki thought he did, but he didn’t think Victoria needed his protection or Cyaxares, like Adam did. Victoria hoped Nikki didn’t expect her to feel sorry for Adam. Nikki was trying to make a point. Nikki thought Victoria’s assumption that Victor would back down if she stood up to him was mistaken. Nikki asked if Victoria was tired of banging her head against the same brick wall. Victoria was tired, but she saw no other option. She wasn’t going back to the days where she bent over backward for Victor. Nikki said things couldn’t go on this way, with Victor and Victoria hurt and angry. Nikki didn’t think Victor was capable of change, so she said it’d be up to Victoria. Victoria sighed that it was always up to her to acquiesce to Victor’s will. Nikki didn’t think the battle was good for anyone. Victoria flashed back to Victor accusing her of bidding on Cyaxares to win Billy back. He said he put her in charge at Newman because he thought she had good judgment, and she was giving him reason to question his judgment. Victoria called Billy. He didn’t answer. She left a message asking if they could have a family dinner, because the kids had been asking about him.

When Ashland joined Victor at the main house, he was perspiring and breathing kind of heavily. Victor asked if he was okay. Ashland had a lot on his mind. He requested a bourbon, then he made it a double. Afterward, they talked business. Victor wanted Ashland to sign the papers. Ashland wanted Victor to sweeten the deal because Adam was a liability. Victor didn’t like people reneging on agreements. Victor gave Ashland the papers to sign. Ashland snapped that the deal was off, and Cyaxares was no longer on the market. He suddenly doubled over and grabbed his chest. Victor stood still and stared. He asked what was wrong, and Ashland said he might be having a heart attack. He asked Victor to call for help. “If you want help, I suggest you sign the damn contract,” Victor stated.

Lola walked into Crimson Lights and saw Nate watching a video of open heart surgery. She asked about him doing this on his free time. He wanted to stay abreast of the latest techniques, even if he couldn’t perform surgery anymore. She teased him about being a workaholic, but she said she and Rey might not be alive without him. She suggested he needed a break though, and he countered that Elena told him Lola spent her free time trying recipes, so he thought she was the overachiever.

Nate smiled as he showed Lola an old video of him performing surgery. She said she might show him a video of her deboning a chicken one day. He mentioned that he did a little cooking. She had enormous respect for doctors, because they could change lives. He mentioned doctors helping infertile couples, and she assumed he heard about Abby and Chance. Elena told him. He thought Abby was lucky to have generous friends and that she’d be a good mom. Lola was bummed Abby didn’t marry her brother, but she thought Abby and Chance balanced each other. She thought this might be awkward for him to hear, since he dated Abby. He felt lucky to have Abby as a friend, and he was glad she found someone who could handle the Newman drama, because he couldn’t. She understood, since her brother got poisoned because of that family’s insanity.

Lola thought it took a special kind of person to be a donor to help a couple start a family. Nate said that was the kind of guy Devon was – generous to a fault. He hadn’t had a chance to talk to Devon about it; when they talked, it was mostly about Moses. Lola knew things were complicated. He realized she talked to Elena. She said her brothers went through something similar twice, over Mia. He’d heard about it from Abby. She said Rey and Arturo got through it, and he said that meant there was hope for him and Devon. She wanted to treat him to lunch at Society to thank him for saving Rey’s life. He didn’t think she owed him anything. She asked what else he’d do – eat bland hospital food? He agreed to come to Society to collect his reward.

Lola set Nate up with lunch, then she left the table when Elena walked in. Elena asked what was going on, and Lola claimed that her aunt was having mystery symptoms. Elena and Nate were celebrities in Lola’s family, after solving Rey’s case. The family hoped the docs could solve this mystery. Elena didn’t feel comfortable diagnosing someone she hadn’t examined. Lola suggested Elena would feel more comfortable puzzling things out with Nate. Later, Nate asked about this sick aunt. Lola said her Tia Flora was too scared to go to the doctor or log into AskMDNow. Nate said it was impossible to diagnose her when she wasn’t there. Elena asked about symptoms. Lola rattled off a long list of things. She got raised eyebrows when she said her aunt’s temperature was high, then she later said it was 96 degrees. She made an excuse that she was a chef, so she didn’t know about these things. She said she put them together so they could figure out what was going on with her poor Tia Milagros. Nate noticed that the aunt used to be named Flora. Lola claimed she was going to go call her mom, and she told Nate and Elena to talk while she was gone. Elena promised Nate she had nothing to do with Lola’s scheme to bring them together. He knew, but he invited her to join him anyway.

Lola respected Nate’s choice not to get back together with her. She’d told Lola as much, so she wasn’t sure why her friend was playing Cupid. Nate thought that might be his fault – he’d crossed paths with Lola a couple times today and talked about his failed romances and the fact that he did care about Elena. They acknowledged that Lola was trying to help. He had to go back to work. Lola came back and was disappointed to realize playing matchmaker didn’t work. Elena said that Lola’s heart was in the right place, but it was too late for her and Nate. Elena said that Nate didn’t trust her not to hurt him. Lola thought that if Nate was scared of getting hurt, it meant he still cared. Elena didn’t know, and she didn’t want to think about it anymore. She said she’d see Lola at home.

Later, Lola saw Nate at Crimson Lights, and she apologized for earlier, but he wasn’t upset. He knew she was trying to be a good friend to him and Elena. She’d just wanted to give two of her favorite people a little nudge, but she knew she overstepped. She said he was a great guy, talented doctor, occasionally funny, and he claimed to be a good cook, so he deserved to be happy. He said ditto, and he left.
