Victoria and Nikki were at Crimson Lights. Victoria hadn’t received the
final purchase contracts from Ashland, and she was starting to wonder if he was
playing games with her. Nikki thought Victoria should think about whether that
was the kind of person she wanted to do business with. Nikki complimented the
yellow flower in Victoria’s lapel. Victoria said she received a bouquet, and
Nikki assumed it was a peace offering from Victor. Nikki’s smile faded when
Victoria clarified that they were from Billy. Nikki thought Billy was trying to
butter Victoria up so that she wouldn’t use Cyaxares to undercut ChancComm.
Victoria called her cynical; she thought Billy was being sweet and supportive.
She said Billy knew she wanted this deal to happen on her own terms, and he’d
been there when Victor tried to manipulate her over the years, so she imagined
he was feeling triumphant on her behalf. Nikki worried that Victoria wanted to
reconcile with Billy. Victoria said not to be ridiculous. She stopped talking
when she got a text from Ashland.
Victoria got a text from Ashland saying he was still working out the details of
their deal, and he wanted to meet to discuss it. Victoria told Nikki there were
no details to negotiate, so either Ashland was stalling or playing games. Nikki
thought that Victoria should tell Ashland that she didn’t do business this way
and that she was willing to walk away. Victoria said that Ashland had something
she wanted, and he was trying to throw her off balance, but it wasn’t working,
because she found herself more intrigued. She wanted to know what was driving
him and why he thought these maneuvers would work on her. She suspected that
Victor was somehow mixed up in this and was trying to use Locke’s shady tactics
to his own advantage. Nikki asked if Victoria was accusing Ashland and Victor of
conspiring against her, because that was paranoid. Victoria said she wasn’t
being paranoid, and that wasn’t what she was saying. She thought Victor might be
playing games through Ashland. Nikki asked why Victor would do that. Victoria
didn’t know what was going on in Victor’s head these days, but she said this
wasn’t about Ashland, it was about Victor going toe to toe with her. She felt
that Ashland, Billy and Adam were bit players in the drama Victor created to
amuse himself. It made Nikki sick that Victoria and Victor seemed to thrive on
this Machiavellian nonsense. Victoria argued that Victor started it by pitting
her against Adam. She said that she pushed back harder than Victor expected, and
he wasn’t going to let it go. “If he wants to play rough, so be it,” she stated.
Amanda and Devon were also at Crimson Lights together. Elena walked onto the
patio and saw them inside. As Devon and Amanda were leaving, they said hi to
Victoria and Nikki. Lola walked up and asked what Elena was looking at. She said
that apparently Devon and Amanda were back together. Lola brought up Nate, and
Elena said he made it painfully clear that they weren’t getting back together.
Elena thought there was still something between her and Nate, but he thought
they missed their chance. Lola didn’t think that made any sense, and Elena
agreed. She saw that Devon and Amanda worked through their pain and got back
together, and it made her wonder why she and Nate couldn’t do the same. Elena
looked up and noticed Nate was inside by the counter.
Nate joined Elena and Lola on the patio. Lola asked about Moses being in town.
Elena mentioned that he was going to be interning at the clinic. Nate wasn’t
sure that was still happening. He was setting Moses up to intern at ChancComm
for AskMDNow, and between that, volunteering at the hospital and schoolwork,
Moses would have a full plate. Nate didn’t want to set him up for failure. Elena
left for her shift. Lola asked Nate why he wouldn’t get back with Elena. She
could see a spark between them. He said that it didn’t feel right, and she asked
what his ideal relationship would look like. He wanted a relationship without
secrets. He’d had enough drama in his lifetime. He believed love should be
consistent and bring out the best in people. He had that once, with Carolyn, but
she died suddenly, and he wasn’t sure he’d find that again. Lola thought he
would.
Devon and Amanda went back to his place. She finished up a call with Sutton.
He’d been arraigned, and he and Naya wanted to meet with Amanda to get an
overview of how she planned to handle the defense. He’d been charged with
conspiracy to commit murder. Devon asked how Amanda felt about meeting Sutton
today. She was intent on getting answers to a lifetime of questions. The law was
her arena, and she’d never been more ready for anything in her life.
At Society, Sutton acknowledged the fact that there were three generations of
this family together for the first time. Naya beamed. Amanda added that they
were together in public, and Sutton asked if that bothered her. He knew she was
emphatic about concealing their personal connection. She only wanted to do that
until the trial was over. She didn’t think anyone would interrupt them, but if
someone did, she planned to indicate that this was a professional meeting. She
revealed that Devon Hamilton knew everything, but she trusted him to keep it in
confidence. Sutton wanted Amanda’s theory of the case. Given the work that
Sutton’s legal team had done so far, she theorized that Richard found out some
unknown exec at Newman was secretly making sizable donations to Sutton’s
campaign in exchange for zoning and municipal favors. Sutton said he didn’t know
anything about that. Amanda said that before she joined the legal team, the team
was building a case that said Richard found out about the perceived impropriety,
and the unknown executive had someone tamper with his breaks before he could
expose them. Sutton was curious about the decision to stipulate that Richard was
murdered, not accidentally killed. Amanda explained it was a way to create
reasonable doubt. Naya always thought it was pretty flimsy that the reporter
blamed Sutton, just because he may have had a motive. She said that other people
had a motive too. She thought that the charges were politically motivated to
hurt her father’s chances in the election. Amanda said the defense was simple,
if they could convince the jury someone else had a motive. The problem was she
didn’t see why someone would go to such extreme lengths to cover up a white
collar crime. She suggested there was more to the story.
Amanda theorized that Richard could’ve been blackmailing the executive. Naya
thought that would give the killer a stronger motive. Sutton noted that Amanda
would be portraying her father as a greedy blackmailer instead of a whistle
blower. Amanda had dug into Richard’s past and she discovered he had massive
financial debt. Sutton realized the effect this must be having on Amanda. She
said she was doing her job to prove her case and Sutton’s innocence. He warned
her that her theory that an unnamed Newman associate killed Richard would put
her on Victor’s bad side. He said it wouldn’t look good if Victor had been
unaware that a scandal of that magnitude took place in his company. He told her
Victor wasn’t the kind of man she’d want as an enemy. Amanda appreciated his
concern, but she’d gone up against wealthy and ruthless people in and out of the
courtroom, and she’d lived to tell about it. She thought Victor’s history with
commercial bribery could work in their favor. She did some digging, and Victor
plead guilty to this crime back in 2004. Sutton was impressed with Amanda and
her strategy, and hew as glad she was on his side. Naya seconded that. Amanda
smiled. Sutton invited Amanda out to his home to meet the rest of the family.
She was caught off guard, but she accepted.
At ChancComm, Lily learned that Billy sent Victoria flowers. She hoped they
weren’t red roses, so Victoria would get the wrong idea. Billy said they were a
benign bouquet for kicking Victor’s butt and keeping Locke’s company out of his
and Adam’s hands. Lily figured they should keep Victoria as an ally now that she
was getting back into the media business. He wanted to be on good terms with
Victoria as a parent and professionally, but he didn’t think about it all that
much. She thought Victoria might get the wrong idea. He didn’t think so. He
thought Victoria was still embarrassed about blurting out that she was in love
with him. She still thought Victoria would make a play for him, and she said
Victoria had demonstrated what she was capable of when she went after something.
Lily and Billy went to the hotel. She wasn’t sure what food to order, and he
offered to have the chef make her something special. She told him that if this
was his way to make up for sending flowers to his ex, he’d have to do a lot
better than that. He told her that if she wanted to skip dinner and head
upstairs for dessert, he’d show her how much he appreciated her. That sounded
fantastic to her. Before they could leave, Victor arrived, and Billy shot barbs
at him about the deal with Ashland falling through. Victor fired back and
pointed out that Billy failed to make a deal for Cyaxares. Billy was excited for
Victoria, and he sent her his congratulations. He assumed Victor only sent her
grief for defying him. Billy said Victoria was going to do something positive
with the company instead of weaponizing it and pointing it at ChancComm. Victor
told Billy not to be so sure about that.
Billy asked where Adam was, and Lily tried to get him to go with her to the
restaurant. Billy said Adam always came running back to Victor, because he had
nowhere else to go. Billy brought up the time Adam tampered with Victor’s
medication. He wondered why Victor kept enabling Adam. Victor thought that was a
stupid question for a gambler to ask. Billy said he was honest about being a
recovering addict, and Victor scoffed. Billy said that Victor wasn’t doing Adam
any favors by protecting him. Billy hoped Victor would get charged with aiding
and abetting. Victor was sure that the allegations against Adam would be proven
false, and the truth would come out. He warned Billy that this was far from
over, and he left.
Billy and Lily went back to work. He thought Victor was hiding Adam.
Exasperated, she asked if they could change the subject, but he refused. He knew
he agreed not to pursue any more stories about the Newmans, but if Victor was
hiding Adam, it’d be a crime not to write about it. He stated that Adam tried to
kill a cop, and they couldn’t let him get away with another horrendous crime.
She told him to put a reporter on the case. He was glad she was on board. She
was only on board if he stayed out of it.
Nina and Abby were in Society talking about buying things for the baby. Jack
came up. He was glad to see Nina was in town, and he congratulated Abby on the
pregnancy. He was thrilled for her and Chance and their amazing journey. Abby
said that even Phyllis did something nice for her – a spa day. Jack said babies
had a habit of bringing out the best in people. Chance called, and a delighted
Abby left the table to talk to him. Nina was glad she could be there for Abby
while Chance was away. Jack asked if it was normal for Chance to be out of town
for weeks on end, and Nina said it was. She was used to it, though. He was sure
that when Paul offered Chance the job, Abby thought he’d be based in Genoa City.
Nina said that the feds came calling – her son’s skill set was in demand. She
worried, but it came with the territory, and she thought Abby was tough enough
to handle the stress of being married to someone with Chance’s job. Jack thought
Nina met his son at the wedding. Nina said she met Kyle briefly and thought he
was charming like his father. He said Kyle and Summer were about to get married,
and Jack thought they’d have kids soon afterward. It made Jack wonder if he’d
been a good role model and prepared Kyle. “Well, no one can ever say you didn’t
respect the institution of marriage,” Nina joked. Jack laughed and admitted he
earned that. He hoped Kyle didn’t get married as many times as Jack did. Nina
said all they could do was love their kids and do their best to launch them into
the world. Abby returned in a great mood. She said she was going to let Nina
talk, but Chance had to end the call. Jack asked if Chance said when he’d be
back. Abby said no, but the call was sweet. She thought he got a little teary
when she told him that they were pregnant.
Victor went to Society. Ashland texted and said that if Victor upped his offer,
they might be able to do business. He wanted to meet.
Abby ran into Devon at the hotel. She acted ecstatic because the call with
Chance. Devon asked Abby how she really felt. She didn’t feel good. She’d been
overjoyed by the call, but now she was crashing back to earth, because she
didn’t know when she’d hear from Chance again. She was constantly worried for
her husband’s safety. She tearfully said she knew she should be happy and
focused on the baby and the future, but everything was so uncertain. Abby
apologized for her feelings, because Chance was doing a good thing. Devon told
Abby that she was allowed to have feelings about it. She thanked him for
listening and understanding. She was trying to stay positive around Nina and
Mariah, because they were doing so much for her. She thanked him for letting her
be herself, even when she was at her least attractive. He said her least
attractive beat most people’s good days. He knew she was blowing off steam so
she could go back to being her strong positive self. She agreed with him. She
knew Chance would want her to focus on the good things. She was sure Chance
would come back to her as soon as he could. In the meantime, she’d make sure
Mariah had everything she needed. She thanked him for being a friend. As Abby
was leaving, Amanda was walking in. Amanda got a text from her sister, Imani. It
said “this will only end badly for you.” She read it to Devon.
At the Chancellor mansion, Tessa gave Mariah some ice chips for her morning
sickness. Mariah had mistakenly assumed morning sickness would be sweet and only
last in the morning. She knew it was happening because her hormones were ramping
up. She felt like a walking cliché. Tessa said Mariah was glowing – a greenish
glow. Mariah was glad that Abby was taking a break from documenting her every
waking moment, because Chance wouldn’t want to see her nauseated. Mariah felt
constantly tired, sensitive to smells and more emotional. She was suddenly
bothered by a smell, and she realized it was her lotion. She retched as she ran
upstairs. Mariah came back downstairs and told Tessa that she had to get into
the shower and scrub off all her body lotion. Her favorite products were making
her feel sick. Pregnancy strikes again. Tessa said she’d box up all the things
that were making Mariah queasy and replace them with fragrance free versions.
Mariah said it was starting to feel so real. Later, Tessa brought Mariah a
flower and sang a song about healing love.
