Nick met Nikki at Crimson Lights and told her that, according to Rey, Faith could be facing criminal charges for the accident. Nikki understood consequences were important, but she hoped that it would focus on helping Faith, not punishing her. Nick said this wasn’t Faith’s first time turning to alcohol, so the punishment needed to be pretty tough. Nikki asked if he meant rehab. He was thinking about an outpatient program so Faith could still go to school. Sharon found a therapist who they hoped would help. Nikki asked to talk to Faith about what to expect from rehab, and Nick said he was hoping she’d offer. He hoped they could find a program that would teach Faith coping strategies. He knew Faith would also need a lot of love and understanding and reassurance that she could still live a normal life. He thought it would be more meaningful coming from someone who’d been there. Nikki wished she could go back and prevent Faith from grabbing the alcohol.
Nick was sure Sharon would be grateful Nikki was going to help with Faith. Nikki asked how Sharon was holding up. He said they were all dealing with a lot, but Sharon was going through a little extra with Adam. Nikki said they were all wondering how Adam could poison Rey one day then save Faith’s life the next. Nikki said what Adam did to Rey was pure evil, and now because of him, Faith would be okay. Nick didn’t think Sharon knew how deep the hold was that Adam had over her.
Nick went to the cottage looking for Sharon, and Rey said she left for the hospital a little while ago. Rey mentioned that Sharon seemed on guard and defensive. Nick said there was a lot going on with the accident, Rey’s poisoning, Adam evading arrest and stopping to save Faith’s life. Nick was struggling with that. Rey assumed it was worse for Sharon. Rey wished there was something he could do about Adam, legally. Part of Nick wanted to shake Adam’s hand, once he was in handcuffs, to thank him for getting Faith to the hospital. Rey thought Adam might be gone for good, since a guy like him knew how to disappear. He wanted Adam locked up, but the part of him that wasn’t a cop wished he lived in a world where Adam never existed.
Billy walked into Lily’s office to tell her he turned down Victoria’s offer to go after Cyaxares, but she told him to hold on because she was setting up a meeting with Amanda. Lily was trying to do damage control because ChancComm’s best and brightest employees were jumping ship to Cyaxares. Billy blamed Victor. Lily showed Billy a list of their employees who were asking to be released from their contracts, and he was upset that they wanted to quit even though ChancComm paid more than market value. She wanted to talk to Amanda and see if there was a non-compete clause in the employee contracts. He said this was exactly why Victor wanted to get Cyaxares – to go after Billy for the article on Adam. He said the only way that they could’ve protected ChancComm was to get their hands on Cyaxares before Victor did. Lily still didn’t think that teaming up with Victoria to take Cyaxares from Victor was a good idea. She did not want to be in the middle of a Newman family war. He said that wasn’t on his agenda. He wanted Victor’s paws off what was his. She believed he loved feuding with Victor and Adam, but she wanted him to let it go, for the sake of his personal and professional relationship with her. He asked if she just wanted to sit and watch everything they worked for get eviscerated. “If that’s what you think I’m gonna do then you have no idea what I’m capable of,” she said. She couldn’t get hold of Amanda, so she decided to go talk to the legal team and handle this herself. She left.
Billy went to Society. He ran into Victor and suggested they get champagne to celebrate Victor’s acquisition. He shot some barbs about Adam running the company while he was evading the law. Victor told Billy to accept that he lost. Billy grumbled about the company being in the hands of a felon, and Victor stated that Adam would be vindicated and he’d assume his rightful position as CEO. Billy accused Victor of hijacking writers from ChancComm, and Victor said they were coming to him by choice. Billy stated that you could buy talent, but not loyalty. Victor asked what Billy knew about loyalty. Billy knew that Victor couldn’t hammer it into his children. He revealed that Victoria approached him about teaming up to buy Cyaxares out from under Victor. Victor’s mouth fell open, but he said Billy bored him, and the only thing that mattered was that he and Adam had a deal in place with Ashland. Victor said Newman was in Victoria’s capable hands, but she sadly had a weakness for Billy that clouded her judgment. Billy asked Victor how it felt to have his staunchest ally be the son who tried to kill him and his daughter, to whom he’d entrusted his most prized possession, saw through him so clearly that she came to his enemy to undermine his business deal. Victor asked how it felt to be Billy. Billy said it felt good, and Victor told him to hold onto that because it wasn’t going to last. Victor vowed to take all Billy’s employees then use Cyaxares to crush ChancComm. Billy called Victor predictable.
Victoria bumped into Lily at Crimson Lights. She said she and Billy thought that Ashland would’ve backed out of the deal with Victor if Newman and ChancComm teamed up. “Yeah well, I didn’t,” Lily flatly replied. Victoria didn’t know why Lily was so upset. Lily told Victoria to stop playing games with Billy. “I know that you’re co-parenting and so you’ll always have that connection, right - the kids, the history, the drama, but the tortured saga of Victoria and Billy is over. Permanently,” Lily stated. Victoria acknowledged Lily was upset, but she said it was unwarranted. She said she approached Billy with a simple business alliance, and she couldn’t help it if Lily wanted to read more into it. Lily didn’t buy it, and Victoria called her insecure. Lily said not at all – she had her eyes wide open, and the only reason Billy wanted to work with Victoria was that he thought it was the best way to beat Adam and Victor. Victoria thought Lily should take a look at Billy. She said she’d been trying to warn Lily for months that he was a gambler. Lily countered that he didn’t do that anymore. Victoria said Billy wasn’t playing poker, but he was a gambler, and any minute now he’d jeopardize everything he and Lily were building, professionally and personally. She said if that wasn’t what Lily was looking for, she should find another partner.
Victoria went to Society for a business dinner, and she stopped to say hello to Victor. He asked her to sit, and she asked if he had updates on Adam. He said that Adam would come out of hiding once his name had been cleared. Victor brought up the time that Victoria asked him to pull his offer for Cyaxares and let her buy it instead. He asked if she always planned to team up with Billy to sink Victor’s bid or if that was plan B. Victoria said she only approached Billy and Lily after Victor turned her down. She said Cyaxares was a crown jewel, and she seized the opportunity to try and take it, just as Victor would’ve. He wanted to discuss the real reason she approached Billy. She told him she wasn’t trying to rekindle her relationship with Billy. He said the more she denied it, the less believable it was. He put her in charge of Newman because he thought she had good judgment, but now he was questioning his decision. He told her it was a problem that she needed to fix.
Sharon came home, and Rey walked downstairs and called her name. She was startled and jumped. He thought she seemed keyed up and asked what was going on. She said nothing was wrong. He knew things got heated before when they were talking about Adam, but he still wanted to be the one she opened up to. He suggested it’d help if she gave herself a break from smaller issues. He said she could shut down Crimson Lights for a few days until things settled down. She said no. he said it was just an idea – he was just suggesting she take a step back and let someone else take charge for a couple days. She said it wasn’t practical. He told her about stress reduction techniques like running and meditation, and she snapped that she was fine, so enough with the helpful hints.
Sharon said she was so sorry for snapping. Rey said he was just trying to help. She knew that, but it made her feel guilty. She said he’d been so wonderful lately – the last time they talked, they were fighting, and now he was being so considerate, and she didn’t feel deserving. He asked if she was sure that was all it was, and she said yes. She said she had an errand to run, and she wanted to visit Faith. He offered to go too, but she said no, since he had work in the morning, and she might spend the night at the hospital. He suggested she spend an hour with him and they have some ice cream. He thought she might need a reminder that they were in this together. She loved the idea, but she couldn’t do it tonight. She said she’d call him later and she loved him, then she left.
Moses visited Faith with some takeout from Society that Lola dropped off. She told him that was her aunt. It was his first day volunteering, and he wasn’t sure if Faith was allowed to have outside food in the ICU. Faith convinced him to let her have it, and she offered to share. Moses asked how Faith got hurt. Faith said it wasn’t much of a story. She wanted to know what brought him back to the hospital. He explained that his cousin, Nate arranged for him to volunteer here because he was interested in becoming a doctor. She thought it was cool that he’d be in town for awhile. She told him that after getting bullied, she got behind the wheel even though she didn’t have her license. He said that being bullied could change you. It happened to him a few times when he was younger. He said kids could either become bullies after getting bullied or they could become protectors. He asked what she’d become. She didn’t know, she hoped she’d be stronger. He said he hoped he never met the kids who bullied her. Nate texted him, so he had to leave. She hoped she’d see him later.
Faith kept writing something down on a pad of paper, balling it up and tossing it at the garbage can. Nikki walked in and asked if Faith was practicing to be in the WNBA or the next Emily Dickinson. Faith was trying to write a letter to her parents. She’d already apologized, but it didn’t come out how she wanted it to, so she was trying to put her her feelings into words, but it wasn’t working. Nikki assumed it was hard for Faith to see her words staring back at her, but that was good, because it forced her to confront her actions and what they did to her family. Faith asked if that was sort of like rehab, and Nikki said yes. Faith was nervous about rehab. Nikki said that was because it took a lot of honesty to face up to the damage you caused, and you had to be brave. Lies were easy, especially the ones people told themselves, and the truth was harder. Nikki knew Faith would be successful in rehab, because she was strong and a fighter. Faith felt like she couldn’t do it. Nikki said that was one of the lies Faith was telling herself. She was confident Faith could do this.
Faith wrote a new draft and declared that it wasn’t good enough. Nick walked in, and Faith and Nikki told him what she was doing. Faith said she’d be doing a lot of work in rehab, and the letter she wrote after rehab would be better than this one and it’d say all the things she couldn’t put into words right now. He was glad Nikki and Faith got to talk. Faith knew it wouldn’t be simple. Nick said Faith had to keep going to school, getting good grades, seeing her therapist and going to rehab after school and on weekends. He told her there would be no screens, no parties, no spending time with her friends. Nikki asked Faith how she felt. She felt lucky. Nick wasn’t expecting that. Faith said she she screwed up, and she could’ve died, but she still had a supportive and loving family. She knew things could be a lot worse, so she was grateful.
Sharon came into Faith’s room with some Fenmore’s bags. Nick asked how he beat Sharon to the hospital. She pointed out that she bought some things for Faith. Sharon asked what she missed, and Nick said he and Nikki talked with Faith and they went over the ground rules. He thought Sharon should’ve been there for that. She noted that she’d already explained why it took her so long. He told her he left a half dozen messages, and now wasn’t the time to show up late for Faith. He mentioned that Rey said she’d been kind of vague about what was going on with her. He said it was like she was keeping something from him and Rey. She told him if he had a concern he could come to her instead of talking behind her back to her husband. He said it wasn’t a conspiracy, he was just worried because she’d been through a lot. She said she had, she listed Faith’s accident, the poisoning and Adam being accused of the poisoning and saving Faith. She added that, whether he liked it or not, she had a lot of history with Adam. She said he knew how long she’d spent in the hospital how many prayers she’d said and how hard she’d worked to keep it together, and now he was doubting her. He said he just wanted to help. She told him to stay out of her way because she had enough to worry about without having everyone on her back.
Billy bumped into Ashland at The Grand Phoenix. “Speak of the devil,” Billy said. Ashland supposed he’d been called worse. He knew Billy had tried to arrange a phone meeting with him, and he hoped Billy wasn’t too upset about losing the bid. Billy said Ashland still owned Cyaxares and he claimed to be invested in its future. Ashland said he’d retain a seat on the board of directors. Billy noted that Adam was on the run. Ashland was aware. Billy said that Ashland was only getting half the team he thought he was, and his competitors, like Billy, would have a field day writing a story about Cyaxares being run by a criminal. Billy said that Victor’s only plan was to weaponize Cyaxares against him, and Ashland would be locked into trying to protect the company he built from the ground up. Billy said that the only way for Ashland to stop the company he loved from being tarnished was to tell Victor no. Ashland said he’d keep that in mind, and he left. Lily walked into the hotel and to the elevator. He saw her and ran after her, but the doors closed.
Billy knocked on Lily’s door. She didn’t answer, and he thought she was ignoring him, but then she opened the door wearing something lacy. She had a cure for letting off the steam that built up today. She pulled him close and told him to put all the tension and strife into her capable hands. They shared an on screen kiss, and she pulled off his jacket, then they shut the door.
