Kyle and Summer had lunch in their suite, and he said it felt good to escape and shut out the rest of the world. She knew it was weird having Ashland and Tara being in the same hotel they lived in. he appreciated her being so cool about it all. She reiterated that they’d face their issues together. He realized he was running late for his meeting, but it was downstairs, so he’d be fine. He left. As soon as he was gone, she got online and pulled up Harrison’s birth announcement.

At The Grand Phoenix, Jack told Phyllis he had a fabulous lunch in the hotel restaurant. She asked if he’d been with Sally. He’d been with someone else. He mentioned that he had a great talk with Summer, and she and Kyle were in a good place. Phyllis thought Summer must’ve taken her advice. Jack was curious about this, but Phyllis said it was confidential. He stated that her daughter was more open with her about relationship issues than his son was with him. At that point, Jack noticed Kyle walk in, and he smiled. Kyle smiled back, but he kept walking, and Jack’s face fell. Phyllis said he was probably running late, not avoiding Jack.

Victoria and Billy both got disappointing phone calls in their respective offices. Meanwhile, Ashland was at Adam’s penthouse with him and Victor. Adam popped a champagne cork, and Ashland said he was confident he was leaving his former company in good hands. Ashland declined the champagne, as he and his wife were anxious to get home to their little boy. Ashland left, and father and son toasted to their team effort and their massive win. Adam wished he could see the look on Billy and Victoria’s faces, but Victor said not to gloat. Meredith brought Chelsea home, and Adam and Victor shared their good news. Chelsea thought about what she had in store for Adam. Adam admitted he’d worried that Ashland would pass him over because of his past. Chelsea grumbled to herself that Adam was dense not to see that Victor was bribing him with this company, jut like he tried to bribe her to leave town all those years ago. She wished she could jump out of the chair and tell them both off, but she believed she needed to wait just a little longer, then Adam would pay.

Victor said goodbye to Adam and Chelsea and left. Adam told Chelsea it was great to work with Victor again. He wished he could’ve had her input on the deal. He asked if she supported him, and she signaled that she did, but in her head, she said he’d done nothing but lie to her, so it was okay to lie to him. He said he was building his career and rebuilding his relationships for her. He promised he was going into this thing with Victor with his eyes wide open. He believed Victor would be there for them when they needed him. She said to herself that she was going to test that theory, but she needed Adam to leave. He noticed that she seemed uninterested in what he was saying, so he decided to leave for awhile. After he was gone, she sent Chloe a text inviting her over.

Chloe sent Meredith on a break. She was delighted when Chelsea complained about Adam. She clarified that she wasn’t happy Chelsea was miserable – she was just glad Chelsea was over that jerk. Chelsea needed a favor. Whatever Chelsea asked for seemed vague, arbitrary and unrelated to getting Chelsea away from Adam, to Chloe. Chelsea just wanted Chloe to trust her enough to do this, no questions asked. Chloe agreed to do it, but she implored Chelsea to be careful. Chelsea promised, and Chloe left. Chelsea sent out another text to Sharon using Adam’s tablet.

Kyle saw Tara bringing her bags into the hotel lobby. He approached her and commented that she was leaving. She wished Ashland hadn’t insisted she come to Genoa City. He said no harm done – Ashland didn’t suspect a thing. She was unhappy they kept running into each other. He said it always happened in public. He recalled Ashland saying that Harrison wasn’t much of a flier. “Maybe once he’s older -” Kyle started, before Tara snapped at him to stop. She wanted him to pretend Harrison didn’t exist. Ashland was on his way into the hotel, and through the glass doors, he saw Tara going off on Kyle. Ashland walked in, and Tara and Kyle acted like they were politely saying goodbye. He didn’t let on that he’d saw the tense moment, and he and Tara left. Sally joined Kyle and told him that there would always be something tying him and Tara together. He told her to get it through her head that Tara’s son wasn’t his. She said she was just giving him a hard time. She wanted them to get along since she was spending more time with his father. Summer came downstairs and she and Kyle left.

Phyllis walked up and asked if Sally liked her larger suite. Sally couldn’t be happier. Phyllis told Sally that a gorgeous employee was interested in Sally. Phyllis wanted to give them a free dinner at the restaurant if Sally was interested. Sally said that was very generous. Phyllis claimed she just wanted her guests and employees to be happy. Sally theorized that Phyllis hated Sally’s friendship with Jack. Phyllis had no problem with Jack and Sally being friends, but she implied that she didn’t want it going further than that. Sally believed Phyllis thought Jack was too good for Sally. “I thought that went without saying,” Phyllis replied. Sally didn’t care about Phyllis’s opinion or need her approval. Phyllis said everyone in town knew Jack was out of Sally’s league. Sally was familiar with Jack’s history, and she believed she’d be an upgrade over some of his exes. Phyllis thought that was obviously a dig on her. Sally said she didn’t mention Phyllis’ name, but she wouldn’t argue if that’s what Phyllis heard. Phyllis said Sally’s sweet innocent act may have worked in L.A. but it wouldn’t work in Genoa City. Phyllis said she was busy and didn’t have time to watch over Sally. Sally smiled and said she was going to see Jack, and she’d tell him Phyllis said hi.

At Society, Kyle told Summer that Tara wanted him to pretend Harrison didn’t exist. Summer was glad, since that was what Kyle wanted. Didn’t he? He said he didn’t change his mind – Harrison didn’t deserve to have his world blown apart. She thought he was doing the right thing, even if it didn’t feel that way right now. She noted some things in their life had been put on hold, and she thought it was time to revisit that decision. He smiled and asked if she was going to get down on one knee. She wasn’t, and he didn’t mind. He accepted her proposal. She clarified it wasn’t a proposal, just a suggestion that they get re-engaged. He wanted to keep it quiet and take things slow, because rushing things last fall screwed them up. She liked both ideas.

Sally visited Jack in the Jabot boardroom. She brought a dress shirt for him that she’d picked up while she was out shopping. She loved it when she found the perfect gift for someone, because it was her way of showing them she appreciated them and saw who they were. He thought she saw him as a man who needed to change his style, and she assured him he was an impeccable dresser and that she was simply expanding his fashion horizons. She said she’d be crushed if he didn’t accept it. If she had to return it to the store, she’d buy this expensive dress she had her eye on, even though it’d break her budget. He said they couldn’t have that. Phyllis texted Jack asking to meet. Sally asked if the text was from Lauren, and Jack said it was Phyllis. Sally said she and Phyllis just had one of their friendly chats, where Phyllis pretended to be nice but really wasn’t. Usually, Sally had to piece together what Phyllis was saying, but today, Phyllis made it crystal clear that she disapproved of the amount of time Sally spent with Jack. He was angry because he told Phyllis to back off. Sally said Phyllis was right – Jack was out of Sally’s league. She said he was head and shoulders over every other man she’d ever dated, and she didn’t feel guilty about that. She saw nothing wrong with wanting the best. He smiled.

Back at Newman, Victoria didn’t understand how she’d misread her meeting with Ashland. She told Nikki that he’d invited her out to dinner to discuss the company. She second guessed turning him down. “Wait a minute? He hit on you?” Nikki exclaimed. Victoria said she’d told him she’d be happy to go to dinner as long as his wife was there too. She wondered if he’d been toying with her, letting her think she was on the verge of winning when he’d already made his decision. Nikki didn’t think they’d ever know. When Nikki showed sympathy, Victoria said she knew that deep down, Nikki was secretly glad Victoria lost. Nikki insisted she was Victoria’s biggest supporter. Victoria knew that, but she also knew Nikki hated being in the middle of her and Victor, and if Victoria won, things would’ve been more tense for Nikki at home. Nikki disagreed because she and Victor were able to set business matters aside. She was much more concerned with Victor teaming up with Adam, who she assumed would eventually hurt Victor. Victoria was sure Victor was happy he backed the winner. Nikki said that Victor didn’t see Victoria as a loser. Nikki thought Victoria was thinking about Billy. Victoria said it was bad enough that she told him that she jumped into this to protect him, but it was even worse that she failed. Nikki thought that Victoria doubled down when her pride was wounded, just like Victor did. She told Victoria not to make any sudden moves where Billy was concerned – don’t do anything that she couldn’t take back.

“Son of a bitch,” Billy yelled when he found out he didn’t get Cyaxares. Lily told him that they knew it was a long shot as soon as Victor entered the game. She noted that their instinct was to opt out of bidding, but they’d decided to stay in. She thought they got caught up in the chase. He said this was about protecting ChancComm, and that didn’t work, so they had to get ready for the onslaught. She noted that the ink wasn’t dry yet, but he felt that Cyaxares was a weapon pointed directly at him and their company. She was sure they’d have to defend their turf one day, and she said she, and their entire content team, which happened to be the best in the business, would do so. She didn’t think he needed to focus on leading the charge. She wanted him to focus on what he did best, like being creative and coming up with ideas to grow the business. She didn't think it was good for him to focus on old feuds. “You know who you sound like,” he said. She assumed he meant Victoria, and she was okay with that, because Victoria was right about this.

Billy assumed Lily believed he was going to flip out again because of Adam. She noted that she never said that. She asked if he trusted that she and the content team could protect ChancComm so he could do his job. He said it wasn’t about trust – she’d never gone up against Adam. She noted that she knew all about Adam – she’d read the exposé. He conceded her point. He didn’t want to get twisted up with that creep again. She told him to let her be on guard duty, and he agreed to. He asked if they were good. “When you said that I sounded like Victoria before, do you think that she’s anxious about you and Adam competing again?,” she asked. He asked if it still bothered her that Victoria said what she said to him. “That she’s in love with you? No, I think that we are solid,” she replied. He said they were solid like granite, diamonds and his thick skull. She smiled, but she did wonder what Victoria’s next move would be. He thought the only Newmans they should worry about were Victor and Adam. Billy thought Victor and Adam got Cyaxares through shady means. Lily didn’t think it mattered, since the deal was done. Onward and upward, she said. He smiled and nodded.

Billy and Victoria bumped into each other at Crimson Lights and talked about losing the bid. He asked if Victor called to rub it in her face yet. She imagined he’d do that in person to get the full effect. She figured he was steeling himself for Adam and Victor’s next move. He said not really – ChancComm was solid, and he thought they’d be fine, no matter what her demented brother threw at them. She was sure he was right, and if it ever seemed like she believed otherwise, that wasn’t her intent. He said he knew why she did it, and he was going to elaborate, but she interrupted and said they didn’t have to discuss that again. She tried to leave, but he kept talking. He didn’t want her to feel bad about opening up. He knew it was difficult for her to put herself out there, and he was sure she regretted it. He didn’t want her to feel awkward, because things were good between them. She smiled. They got a table, and he brought up Katie. Katie had taken up an interest in the violin and the guitar, according to Billy, and he wondered what Victoria thought about getting her an instrument. She didn’t think he really wanted her opinion on this – she thought that he was just trying to prove that nothing had to change between them. He said he wouldn’t have succeeded without her, and he thanked her for that. She thought that was sweet, but she told him her ego didn’t need any more bolstering, so he could go.

After Billy left, Adam walked in, and Victoria congratulated him. He said it almost sounded like she meant it. She replied that she’d meant it as much as he did when he congratulated her on being CEO of Newman. She’d recalled him saying it was all for show and that Victor would have all the say on the major decisions. She admitted that, in retrospect, that was the truest thing he’d ever said to her. She did have to declare her independence to Victor and let him know she didn’t take direction from anyone. She said Adam had gone in the opposite direction – total submission. He suggested she was just bitterly disappointed that Ashland wasn’t impressed with her. He said she didn’t want it badly enough, and she replied that she wasn’t as desperate as he was. “You were desperate. Just not for Cyaxares,” he replied. He thought it was touching that she had such a soft spot for Billy, even after all the hell he put her through. He theorized she put in a bid for Cyaxares because she knew Billy had no chance of winning and she wanted to protect him from what Adam and Victor had in store. “There’s something really beautiful about that. In a pathetic sort of way,” he mused.

Adam was alone at Crimson Lights now. Someone named Jeff called with congratulations. They agreed to do lunch later. Sharon responded to the text that Chelsea sent her while pretending to be Adam. Adam saw all the texts on his phone. He was confused when he saw that two texts that appeared to be from him. “Adam’s” text said “I can’t stop thinking about you. What I wouldn’t do for both of us to be free.” A new text sent from “Adam” to Sharon said. “Please don’t ignore me. Please respond.”

“Leave me alone, Adam. Don’t do this. Rey is sick and I have to focus on that. Please let me go for good,” Sharon replied. A mystified Adam looked at the text exchange.

Victor went to Newman to see Victoria and found Nikki instead. She hoped he wasn’t here to crow or put Victoria in her place. He said he only came to give Victoria a pep talk, and Nikki thought that might make things worse. She was concerned about Victor teaming up with Adam. He said Adam had learned from his experiences. He asked if she’d forgotten that Adam had a traumatic childhood. He thought she’d eventually see that Adam had changed.
