Victor took Nikki to Crimson Lights as a way to keep himself occupied while Victoria was making her pitch to Ashland Locke. He found out Nikki knew and asked why she didn’t tell him. She said she didn’t want to get caught in the middle of the conflict. She felt that he baited Victoria into responding. He didn’t expect Victoria to go behind his back. Nikki said perhaps he’d listen the next time she warned him not to challenge their daughter, but she doubted it. He was grateful when she said she tried to talk Victoria out of getting into the bidding war. She warned him that Victoria’s presentation was good. He felt good about Adam’s pitch, since he taught Adam all his old tricks. He said they’d have to wait and see who won.

Victoria was in Ashland’s suite. He told her that he’d been impressed by the other two pitches. She wasn’t surprised, because her competitors were very savvy. He told her that the other bidders weren’t brimming with compliments about her. She considered it a gift when people underestimated her. He’d done his research on her, and he said there was no way he’d underestimate her. He wanted to know why she was reversing her course after divesting Newman of its media division. She explained that Newman’s media division was a distraction. She felt that Cyaxares would drive Newman’s growth, because Cyaxares’s audience was highly intelligent thought leaders. She said whoever controlled Cyaxares would have direct communication with decision makers around the globe. She didn’t think he wanted Cyaxares to fall into the wrong hands. He brought up Adam. She was sure he was well aware of her brother’s history. He said he also knew the type – cutthroat – Wall Street was crawling with guys like Adam. She said that was where Adam got his start. He said Billy had his struggles, but he seemed to redeem itself. She had the highest respect for Billy and Lily, and she thought they’d do a fine job growing Cyaxares. He sensed Victoria had a higher purpose in mind. She suspected she was the kind of buyer he envisioned when he built Cyaxares. He had to end their meeting now, because he had other plans, but he was interested in meeting her later for dinner.

Victoria loved the idea of dinner with Ashland and his wife. He said that Tara had her own plans, like checking out Fenmore’s flagship store. She suggested they arrange for a time when all three of them could get together. She was sure Tara took an interest in the business dealings, and he said Tara was at home in the financial realm, although he didn’t always take her advice. They said their goodbyes and she left.

Victoria went to work and told Nikki that she thought Ashland would be calling with good news soon. Nikki mentioned that Victor was just as confident in Adam’s pitch. Smirking, Victoria asked how big the explosion was. Nikki was sure Victoria knew how furious Victor was about her making a bid for the company. She said that was a big part of the reason why she did it – she wanted to get under his skin. Groaning, Nikki wondered why they couldn’t just play board games like a normal family instead of one upping each other by buying corporations. Victoria said it was more fun this way.

Elena dropped by Devon’s to see if he was ready to have that talk. At first, Devon tried to put this conversation off by pretending he had a meeting, but then he admitted that wasn’t true. Elena reciprocated by admitting she wasn’t telling the truth when she claimed she just happened to be passing by. She recognized that things were awkward because she’d just confided that she couldn’t stop thinking about their night together. She knew that was why he left her hanging after he texted her. He replied that he didn’t know what to say. She thought that said a lot, and she told him it was okay. She realized it was probably too late for them to get back together. Too much damage had been done, and she knew he didn’t feel the way she did. “The problem isn’t that we don’t share the same feelings. It’s that we do,” he said.

Devon wasn’t over Elena either, and he didn’t know what to do because he also cared about Amanda. He knew that couldn’t feel good to hear. She knew it was no one’s fault but her own. She didn’t think Devon would’ve fallen for Amanda if Elena didn’t cheat with Nate. Elena said Nate had been kind and patient, but she couldn’t pretend she didn’t still have feelings for Devon. Devon didn’t know how he and Elena could reunite or how he’d forget what she did. She said they couldn’t. He noted that she’d been insecure about Amanda before, and he asked how she’d be now, knowing that he’d been with Amanda. Wiping away tears, she said it was crazy for her to think they could reconcile. He thought they had to accept that they weren’t meant to be. He wished her the best. She said she had the best, and she threw it away. He was sorry he didn’t say what she wanted to hear. She said he told the truth. There was mascara running down her face, and he gently wiped it away, which lead to a kiss, followed by sex. Afterward, Elena couldn’t believe they did this again. She asked what they were doing, and he said he didn’t know. He got a text, and she correctly assumed it was Amanda. Elena said she needed time to think about this, and she apparently couldn’t do that around Devon. She wanted to figure this out soon, because she wasn’t going to be his girl on the side. He didn’t want her to be. He said they had to make a choice and stick to it. She asked him to call her, so they could talk after they both thought this through. They kissed, and she left.

At the Chancellor house, Abby told Mariah that the doctor harvested ten eggs that were now getting fertilized. Mariah felt like they should be there to bear witness. Ashley said there would be a lot of momentous occasions with the baby, like the first day of school etc. Abby wanted Mariah there for all of them. Mariah intended to be there. Mariah gave Abby a honeypot and Ashley honey. She thought the bees and pollination were the closest thing to fertilization. They thought it was cute. Mariah had to go to work, and Abby decided to go to Society. Ashley didn’t think Abby should be working after her procedure, but Abby said she needed something to occupy herself. Ashley relented, but she insisted on driving Abby. Mariah said the next time they saw each other, she could be pregnant with Abby’s baby.

The therapist was coming to the cottage, and Sharon was tidying up. Rey assured her no one would judge her. He didn’t want to blame Faith for the missing knickknack, but he wondered if they should check her room while she was out. Sharon didn’t want to violate Faith’s privacy, especially given the trust issues they’d been dealing with. He agreed. He appreciated her willingness to go to therapy. She wished he’d believe her when she said she wanted to be with him and not Adam. He said as a detective, he needed evidence. The therapist arrived, and Sharon looked apprehensive. Iris asked Rey to start. He said he and Sharon had been incredibly happy, but Sharon’s ex had been problematic for Rey, and a lot of others, especially Faith. He said Sharon remained in contact with Adam despite Rey’s feelings about him. He hoped Sharon would examine why it was so hard for her to let go of someone who was no good for her. Sharon thought she and Rey had different definitions of what it meant to let go. She said she set boundaries with Adam, and now she was maintaining what she believed to be a healthy emotional distance. Rey thought Sharon was in denial. She bristled and said she could describe for herself how she felt.

Iris asked that everyone speak for themselves and not interrupt. Iris understood there was a lot of history with Adam. Sharon said there was, and not all of it was negative, though Adam had caused a lot of problems. Rey said, as a cop, he knew an expert manipulator when he saw one. Sharon said she was exasperated with Adam because he refused to accept she’d moved on. She thought she and Rey should still be in their honeymoon phase. Iris asked if Sharon blamed Adam. She said he kissed her, and someone took a photo, and Rey got upset, which was why he wanted to go to therapy. Rey interrupted and said that kiss was the last straw. Iris wanted to keep talking to Sharon. Iris sensed that Sharon might resent going to therapy. Sharon just wished Adam didn’t put them in this position. Iris said that Adam wasn’t the one who gave Sharon the strong request to seek therapy. She asked if some of Sharon’s aggravation was actually directed toward Rey, and not Adam. Rey said yes at the same time Sharon said no.

Rey contended that there was plenty of aggravation to go around. He said Sharon promised repeatedly to stay away from Adam, and he thought she was sincere, but she never asked Adam to stop coming to Crimson Lights, and when they ran into each other, they always talked. It made Rey feel ignored and disrespected. He said Adam was a bottomless pit of need, and Sharon was caring and compassionate, which was one of the things Rey loved about her. “Except when you don’t,” she replied. He said except when she wasted it on people who didn’t deserve it. Iris asked if Sharon agreed with Rey that Adam didn’t deserve compassion. She said no, and she explained that Adam was taking care of his paralyzed fiancee. She recognized it wasn’t okay for Adam to turn to her for support. It was difficult for her to turn Adam away, because he was mostly alone in the world. Rey said people realized Adam was toxic and they had the good sense to stay away from him.

Sharon accused Rey of thinking that there was something wrong with her and that she needed to be needed. She said he was trying to pathologize her sympathy for Adam so he could justify telling her to cut off all contact with him. He didn’t think it was healthy for her to have a relationship with a man who was actively trying to sabotage their marriage. She said Adam’s manipulative side stemmed from severe childhood trauma. Rey complained that Sharon was making excuses for Adam again. She felt that she was taking all parts of Adam’s past into consideration, and she said she did the same thing for Rey. She realized that part of the reason he was acting so strongly was because of what Mia put him through, and she made allowances for that. Iris asked who Mia was. Sharon stated that Mia was Rey’s ex wife, who had an affair with his brother, got pregnant and now the two of them were raising their child together. Rey didn’t appreciate Sharon bringing that up, when they were here to discuss Adam. Sharon countered that they were here to discuss their marriage, and they both had a past. She told him that he couldn’t just decide which part of their history they’d talk about and which part they wouldn’t. She said that wasn’t how therapy worked – you had to open a vein. She thought he was judging her more harshly than the situation warranted because of what Mia did, which wasn’t fair, since Sharon wouldn’t ever do that.

Iris was gone, and Sharon and Rey’s emotions were still raw. She said she knew it would be like this – he’d kept saying therapy would only take an hour a week, but the time you spent in session was only part of the work. Afterward you had to deal with all the issues and emotions. Rey said the real issue was that Sharon kept trying to minimize the pull Adam exerted on her. He said they both knew it was about more than sympathy. He assumed she was holding back partially because she didn’t want to hurt his feelings, but she’d have to be open and honest if this was going to work. She asked if he meant counseling or their marriage. He felt dizzy, and she was concerned. He blamed the tension and went to get water. Rey decided to go to the station. Sharon asked if he was still dizzy. The water helped. He was willing to keep at the counseling if she was. He got dizzy again and cold. To her horror, he passed out.

At ChanceComm, Billy lamented his decision to badmouth the Newmans to Ashland. Lily noted that they’d both previously felt good about his decision, so she didn’t know why he was guessing himself. He worried that he’d lowered the bar and made it easier for Victoria to impress Ashland. She said what was done was done, and she thought they did a great job. He couldn’t focus until he knew what Ashland decided, so he left to take a walk.

Billy went to Victoria’s office. She noted that he wasn’t as cocky as he was when she saw him earlier. He wanted to know why she said she was making the pitch to protect him. It bothered him that she saw him as someone who needed protecting. She said they all needed protection from Adam. She knew Billy would do the same for her. He said it wouldn’t cross his mind, because he knew she could protect herself. She asked if she offended him. He felt like she still thought he was a screw up who needed someone to clean up after him. He said he worked hard to get his act together, and he’d thought she had more respect for him than that.

Victoria believed in the progress Billy made. He sensed she didn’t think it would last. She knew he’d taken on Adam and won and fended off Victor before, but this was the two of them teaming up against him. He wasn’t afraid of Adam and Victor. She said he should be. She didn’t want to see him goaded into another pointless feud with Adam. She saw what it did to him, and she didn’t want to see him get bogged down in the muck again. He asked why it mattered to her. She said it was free advice. He thought it was more than that. He was confused because when they broke up, she said she wasn’t going to waste more time saving him from himself. He asked why she’d take on her father. He didn’t think Victor would ever forgive her. He kept pushing her to explain why she’d do this for the guy who hurt her over and over again. “Because I still love you!,” she blurted out.
