Billy was in Lily’s office, while on the phone with Jill. She liked his pitch. He thanked her for the notes she’d given him and the last minute support. The call ended. Lily walked in and overheard Billy practicing his pitch. She told him he was captivating, and she didn’t just mean the shower they took together earlier. She asked if he felt ready. He felt good about it. She knew they were the underdog, but she liked that. She said if they could pull this off, they’d be a force to be reckoned with, and no one could doubt them as a team.

Victoria walked up to Victor and Adam, who were at Society. She asked about Chelsea, then she asked what time they were making their pitch to Locke. Victor noted that he’d brought the opportunity to Victoria, and she wasn’t interested, and he wanted to know why she suddenly was curious. She said it was a big deal, and she’d be interested even if she didn’t know the participants. Victoria asked Adam if he knew that he was Victor’s second choice and that he brought the idea to her first. Victor thought that Victoria seemed to be enjoying this, and he asked why she was there. She claimed she just wanted to wish them luck and ask them what he thought their odds were. She thought Adam must be looking forward to going toe to toe with Billy. He said it didn’t matter who the competition was, but since Billy used his company to declare war on him, he wanted to buy a company that would allow him to do the same to Billy. Defeating Billy wasn’t his sole motivation, and he was sorry if the father of her children was affected, but all’s fair in love and business. Victoria commented that they seemed confident. Adam highly doubted Ashland would turn down an offer from Newman. “That’s a really good point. I hadn’t thought of that,” Victoria replied. She noted that their offer wasn’t coming from Newman Enterprises, though. Victor didn’t think that mattered, since he was Victor Newman; he founded that company, and Ashland knew that. She suggested Ashland would see it as a red flag that he couldn’t get the company to back his bid. Adam said maybe they’d call Victoria when they found out, so she could be the first to congratulate them. She smile dand left.

Sally went to Jack’s place with a gift for Mrs. Martinez to thank her for the dinner the other day. She’d assumed Jack would be at the office, but he was working from home, and he was glad he got to see Sally. She asked if there had been any fallout from their kiss. He thought Kyle knew better than to bring it up, but he hadn’t heard from his son. She asked if there was any information on Kyle’s canceled NY trip. Jack didn’t know anything else. He and Kyle usually had an open line of communication, but now it seemed Kyle was holding something back. Sally said maybe that meant whatever was bothering Kyle had gone away. Sally entered the room after visiting Mrs. Martinez. She brought the housekeeper some scorpion peppers, and Mrs. Martinez gave Sally some aspirin, because she was sore after ice skating. She was rethinking ice skating and wondering if she should stick to snowball fights. Jack was interested in having a snowball fight right now, but Sally had to go to work. Neither of them expected this thing happening between them. She thought it was the unexpectedness that was making it so exciting. He agreed, but he said she might change her mind once he beat her in a snowball fight. She smiled and said he sounded confident. He said he was a confident man. He walked her out, and she threw a snowball at him, but he closed the door just in time to block it.

Summer entered The Grand Phoenix, and Kyle was about to go to the front desk to see if a certain guest had checked in. he told her that Ashland and Tara were scheduled to arrive any minute. Kyle was standing next to the luggage trolley. At that moment, Ashland walked in. He announced that he was Ashland Locke. He mistook Kyle for the bellhop and tried to give him $20 to fetch his bags from the car. Tara walked in behind Ashland and shot Kyle a wary look. Kyle said he didn’t work here. Summer offered to find someone to help, noting that her mother owned the hotel. Tara tried to convince Ashland to go outside with her, where a valet was waiting. Ashland recognized Kyle as John Abbott’s grandson. He’d seen Kyle’s picture in Forbes. He knew John and thought he was a good man. Kyle introduced Summer. Ashland mentioned that he was meeting some Newmans today. Summer assumed one was her grandfather, Victor. Ashland knew Victor by reputation, and he was looking forward to making his acquaintance. Ashland introduced Tara. Summer asked if they’d be staying long. Ashland hoped not. Tara mentioned that they wanted to get home to their three year old son. Ashland had never experienced anything like parenting, and he told Summer and Kyle that they had a lot to look forward to. Kyle and Tara exchanged uncomfortable looks.

Ashland did a deal with John Abbott, 25-30 years ago, back when he’d been just a kid. He remembered John as a man of integrity. Summer said Kyle was a man of integrity, too. Ashland mentioned that he was meeting with Billy Abbott. Kyle hoped Ashland and his uncle had a good meeting. Ashland said there was no such thing as a bad meeting, only successful or unsuccessful, and if Billy had done his homework, he had a shot. Ashland believed one should go into a situation knowing everything about everyone involved. Summer told Kyle that they should head to the office, and Ashland and Tara went upstairs. “Wow, quite a charmer,” Summer said. “Killer with a smile,” Kyle replied.

Kyle and Summer went to Jabot, and he said a couple times he felt like Ashland could see right through him. Summer admitted that she’d been focused on Tara – the woman he’d risked everything to have an affair with. He told her not to worry about Tara – he loved Summer. She knew that, but it was a stressful situation. He said they got through it, and she said they did, but… She couldn’t say more because Jack walked in. Jack informed Kyle that he’d made a mistake at work. Kyle said he’d fix it, and Jack told him not to minimize this. Kyle admitted he should’ve caught the error. Jack listed some other errors in Kyle’s work and asked what had him so distracted. Summer covered and said Kyle was a little off because they’d just argued. Jack told Kyle not to bring that to work with him. Kyle apologized, then he mentioned that Ashland was in town to meet with Billy. Jack knew, and he was backing Billy, but he didn’t envy the meeting with Ashland. Summer repeated Ashland’s comments about about doing business with John. Jack explained that Ashland bought a major conglomerate, because it made satellites. It included a bank that owned a major Jabot loan. Sensing opportunity, Ashland began buying up Jabot’s debt to try and squeeze John out. John scraped together enough money to pay the debt off early. Locke’s plan was foiled, but he was impressed with John. Kyle said it sounded like Locke admired John. Jack thought that was why Locke didn’t do his traditional thing and try to crush John. Jack stepped out to take a call. Kyle wasn’t happy to hear another story about how ruthless Ashland was. Summer assured him that Ashland would never know the truth. He left for a walk to clear his head.

In the hotel lobby, Tara booked a massage. Sally was in the lounge, and she rushed to Tara when she heard her say she was Tara Locke. Sally said she was a fan of Tara’s shoe line. A flattered Tara said her line was a hit in Paris, but not many Americans knew about it. Sally explained that, as a designer, she read international fashion magazines. Sally introduced herself and said they might have a friend in common, Kyle Abbott. Tara said she just met Kyle for the first time today. Sally said Kyle must’ve known a different Tara from NY. She asked if she could take Tara out for a latte, so they could talk about fashion. Tara accepted, and they left.

Tara and Sally chatted on the Crimson Lights patio, and Tara mentioned that she was accompanying her husband on a business trip. She went on a lot of them, because they were close and liked traveling together. Sally marveled that there was a relationship that actually worked. Sally hoped to be married someday, but she wasn’t sure she’d go on all her husband’s business trips. Tara said that Ashland liked to keep her close. Sally wanted to meet the famous Ashland Locke, but Tara said that probably wasn’t going to happen unless Sally had a multi-million dollar business deal to discuss. Kyle entered Crimson Lights and he tensed when he saw Sally and Tara on the patio.

Sally and Tara were talking shoe design when Sally saw Kyle inside. She excused herself to get a refill. Kyle confronted Sally about her games. Sally told Kyle that not everything was about him. She said she and Tara were talking about designs, not cheating, and Tara was pretending she didn’t now Kyle. He accused Sally of fishing for information on him, and she was unapologetic, because she thought he’d do the same thing if the situation was reversed. She told him to relax, she was just making a connection. She said she’d keep his secret as long as he backed off and let her and Jack explore their relationship.

Back at Jabot, Jack told Summer he was worried about Kyle. He didn’t buy her story about the argument either. She said she and Kyle really did argue, but they worked through it, because there was nothing they couldn’t get through as a couple. He thought Kyle was lucky to have Summer. Sally appeared and asked Jack if he wanted to go shopping.

Back at Crimson Lights, Tara wasn’t happy that Kyle wanted to talk. He was sure it’d be fine, since he doubted Ashland would be caught dead at a place like the coffeehouse. She was also annoyed that he’d managed to bump into her and Ashland even after she warned him they were coming to town. He said it was an accident. She snapped that if they ran into each other again, she didn’t want to hear Harrison’s name come up. Kyle pointed out that Ashland was the one who kept talking about Harrison. Tara said she saw the look in Kyle’s eye when Harrison was mentioned, and she wanted him to forget she even had a son. Kyle heard a lot of stories about Ashland, but he thought Ashland seemed nice. Tara said he was pleasant unless he was crossed – if Ashland found out, he’d crush her and Kyle. Kyle said they were kind of in this together, but Tara disagreed, because Ashland treated her and Harrison well, and she wasn’t going to put the life she and Harrison had at risk.

Billy and Lily went to Ashland’s hotel suite. Ashland mentioned that he met Summer and Kyle, then they sat down to talk business. Ashland said Cyaxares was his baby, and it was their job to convince him why he should sell it to them. Lily offered Ashland a packet with financial information. Billy said the numbers were the boring stuff. He thought Ashland wanted to hear the heart of their proposal. Ashland said absolutely. Billy thought Cyaxares was a jewel of the media industry, and he and Lily were committed to maintaining the reputation. Lily added that Chancellor had the resources to plan for the future, too. They planned to be innovative and act with their heads and their hearts so Cyaxares could succeed for decades to come. Ashland looked at the numbers. He thanked them for their effort, and he said their pitch was nice. Ashland asked if Billy was still gambling. He knew that Lily had overcome some tragedies, but he said Billy’s story was less heroic. Billy theorized that Ashland must’ve made a few gambles as he grew Cyaxares from nothing into a major player. Ashland conceded the point. The company meant a lot to him, and any offer he accepted would be contingent on him keeping a seat on the board. Lily said they wanted Ashland to be involved. Billy said that Ashland’s research may not have uncovered the other competitor’s motivations. He contended that the Newmans’ offers were tangled up in family drama and politics, and they didn’t care about Cyaxares, it was just a prize to them. He said ChanceComm respected Ashland and admired his company.

In the lounge, Billy and Lily talked about the meeting. He was worried that he’d made a mistake talking about the Newmans. She thought they made a great first impression. Victor and Adam walked in. Victor asked if they’d seen Ashland, and Lily said they just finished. Adam had been expecting to hear some bravado from Billy. Billy suggested the Newmans wear name tags, so Ashland could keep track of them all. Adam said there were only two of them, so Billy didn’t mention that Victoria had thrown her hat in the ring. Billy told Victor it must’ve stung when Victoria turned him down. Victor and Adam left. Billy wished he could see the look on Adam and Victor’s faces when they found out about Victoria.

Billy went to the hotel bar. He wanted drinks to celebrate, but Lily thought they should go back to work and celebrate tonight. He wanted to wait for Victoria and tell her he was feeling confident. Lily asked why. Billy wanted to mark his territory, because Victoria took this meeting even though she knew Billy wanted the business. He wanted to let Victoria know his eyes were open and maybe throw her off a bit. Lily told Billy to have fun with his ex. He told her she was amazing today and that they made a great team. She left.

Ashland wanted to hear how Victor would apply the famous Newman touch to Cyaxares. Victor clarified that this wasn’t an offer from Newman Enterprises, because he’d stepped back and handed the reins to Victoria. He’d teamed up with his capable son, Adam for this. Adam was sure their offer was more substantial than the other one, but he also thought they’d be a better fit because they weren’t folding Cyaxares into an existing corporation. He said Cyaxares would be their sole focus, and it would never be a problem to give the company a cash infusion. Adam offered the aggressiveness of a start-up and a no holds barred approach, and he said that Victor would be providing the seasoned experience of Newman Enterprises. Adam said he and Victor were the perfect package, and they were a family, and he knew that meant something to Ashland. Ashland had learned some troubling things about Adam, and he’d read the article ChanceComm published. Adam said it was a hit-piece, but he wouldn’t insult Ashland by pretending the claims weren’t true. Victor didn’t think Adam’s past misdeeds were important. He said what was important was that Adam had come through his trials and tribulations and become a strong person. Ashland was impressed by Victor’s defense of his son, but he asked if that meant Victor would be taking a back seat to his child. Victor said it meant he’d look over Adam’s shoulder. Adam could think of no better advisor. Adam said with him at the helm, Victor by his side and Ashland on the board, they couldn’t lose. Victor asked Ashland to call him to make a deal after he’d given due consideration to ChanceComm’s offer. Ashland said there was one more pitch to hear. Victor didn’t realize. Ashland was surprised, given the third bidder was Victoria.

In the hotel lounge, Victoria told Billy that he should withdraw his offer. She’d let him know in advance that she was bidding on Newman’s behalf, because he was going to lose. He thought she should step aside. He said Ashland would see through her motivation – this wasn’t about business, but about getting back at her father and brother. She said she wanted Cyaxares because it was a good deal and because she wanted to protect Billy from Adam and Victor. She knew he and Lily had the resources to hold Adam and Victor off for awhile, but ultimately, they would crush him. Victor and Adam came downstairs. Victor said what a surprise, and Victoria said it’d be even more of a surprise when Ashland accepted her offer.

Ashland called Tara and told her that they could go home to NY after his last meeting. Victoria walked into Ashland’s suite. He was pleased to meet who he imagined was the prettiest Newman. Victoria said that was her brother, Nicholas. She was the brains of the family. She gave him the numbers, and she was sure she was making the most generous offer. He said that wasn’t the only component in play. She understood. He was impressed that she came alone. He thought she’d have a whole team. She said she didn’t need backup. He wondered if she didn’t play well with others. She said she did great with others, but they just didn’t like it when she won. He asked if she’d say that to Victor if she won this bid. She liked to win, and she bet Ashland did too. She said her father raised the entire family to value competition – sometimes they went against outsiders and sometimes against each other. He thought that was an interesting parenting philosophy. She knew he had a son. He said Harrison was a little young to compete with him. Victoria said she knew all about familial competition, and when she said she liked to win, she couldn’t mean that more than she did right here and now.
