Nina yelped when she walked into the Chancellor living room and saw Abby giving herself an injection. Nina hated needles, but it didn’t bother Abby, because the injections put her closer to the egg retrieval, which meant she was a step closer to getting the baby. She was excited and a little nervous that Mariah and Devon would be scared off once they started focusing on legalities. Ashley dropped in for a visit. Mother and daughter talked alone, and Abby went over the entire plan. Some of her eggs would be retrieved, and some of them would be fertilized, while others wouldn’t be, just in case Chance’s condition improved. She was feeling worried because Chance wasn’t there, and she didn’t know where he was, and she didn’t know if Devon or Mariah would change their minds. Ashley thought Abby was doing everything right. Abby said Ashley must think she was a mess. Ashley replied that all moms were a mess. Abby didn’t know how Ashley survived planning and making her. Ashley admitted that Abby wasn’t actually a typical baby story, but it was worth it because Abby was her greatest gift. She was sure Abby would feel that way about her child, too.

At the penthouse, Devon marveled to Amanda that things just kept getting better and better. She didn’t see how perfection could be improved. As they talked, she realized that he was talking about breakfast, while she was talking about what they did last night, and this morning. He said that was beyond perfection. She shifted gears and brought up the contract with Abby and Chance. He wasn’t concerned about legal issues, but she said it was her job to worry about them. He didn’t see the need to iron out every detail, since Abby already promised she and Chance would treat him like family. She felt that he was being too casual about giving up his rights. She bombarded him with scenarios – what if Chance and Abby decided to move away? At what age would the child find out about Devon? He thought that she was acting like this because she’d just connected with her mother. She apologetically explained that this was her gut reaction to someone giving away their child.

Devon understood where Amanda was coming from, and he got it if this was too difficult for her. She said it wasn’t. He said that growing up in the system, you asked yourself how a parent could leave their child, but he wasn’t doing that, since he wouldn’t be the father; he was just helping his friends. She knew he wasn’t the kind of person who’d abandon a child. She said she’d get past this trigger, but she did need to make sure that he protected his interest and the baby’s.

Devon said he’d never argue his rights over Chance and Abby’s baby. Amanda wasn’t suggesting he did, but she didn’t want to see him be erased from the picture if circumstances changed. It was her job to protect him and the baby. He wanted Chance and Abby to be protected too, and Amanda said that was their lawyer’s job. He wanted the contract to be fair and equitable for everyone involved. Abby texted Devon that she was on her way. He asked Amanda if they were on the same page.

Abby brought Devon a gift as a small token of her appreciation. It was a framed photo of Katherine. He’d never seen that picture before, and he knew his grandmother would support what they were doing. Abby felt like everything came together after he offered to help. She thanked him. He said he didn’t do this for thank yous. He mentioned that he and Amanda were working on a contract to make sure Abby, Chance and the baby were protected. Amanda added that it was for the protection of everyone involved. Abby said that was just like Devon to be taking care of her and Chance too. She was relieved there were no snags. Devon said he and Abby had each other’s backs for a long time, and this would be no different.

After Abby left, Devon and Amanda talked. She was glad she got to see his friendship with Abby up close. It was clear to her now that no matter what was said in the contract, Devon would always protect his friend. Amanda found that sexy. Devon found Amanda irresistible in lawyer mode. He hoped she delivered the contract in person and in private, and she said she wouldn’t miss it.

Phyllis spotted Victor at Crimson Lights, and she tried to quickly leave, but he noticed her and struck up a conversation. He’d talked with Summer and gotten the sense that something was weighing on her. He asked how things were going with Fenmore’s and with Kyle. Phyllis didn’t think that they should interfere in Summer’s life, but Victor said he took care of his own. After Phyllis left, Ashley ran into Victor. They talked about Abby. Ashley admitted she was terrified something would go wrong and leave Abby heartbroken.

Ashley knew Abby was a strong woman, but she’d also lost a pregnancy. She worried that if something went wrong this time, Abby would give up hope. Victor stated that Abby found a surrogate mother, Devon, Katherine’s grandson was the donor. He asked what if it all went right and they could welcome this child. She said they would. He’d already set up a trust fund. He said that three of the most powerful families would be bundled up in this little kid.

In the Jabot boardroom, Summer was back from her trip to L.A., and she told Sally that Bill wasn’t the monster she’d proclaimed him to be. She found him funny, smart and funny. She wasn’t sure if Sally had been dishonest or if Bill only dropped buildings on Sally. Sally said Bill could be quite charming when he wanted something. She stuck to her original warning and said her only offense was falling in love with Bill’s son. Summer countered that Sally pretended she was dying and then kidnapped someone. Sally didn’t think it was a good idea for Summer to be throwing around accusations where everyone could hear them. She pointed out that she had a grenade of her own that she could throw – Kyle’s affair and everything that came with it. Summer wanted to know why Sally kept hinting that there was more to the story. Sally suggested Summer ask Kyle, then she left.

Kyle was leaving the hotel for his flight to NY when he saw Tara waiting for him in the lobby. She was upset that he’d been contacting her, and she was adamant that they had nothing to say to each other anymore. He didn’t think she would’ve come all this way if that were true. He asked if Harrison was his, and she insisted that he wasn’t. He pointed out that she’d said she and Ashland weren’t sleeping together during the affair. She begged him to drop this. He wanted proof. She said she knew this would happen when she ran into Theo. She recalled the way Theo had been eyeing her son and asking questions. He said that Theo said Harrison looked just like him. She said Theo was a scam artist who was playing with the life of an innocent child. She reminded him that Ashland still crushed anyone who crossed him. He said he wanted a DNA test. She confessed that she already had one done, and Kyle was the father. There were a million things he wanted to know, but she said they had to pretend this conversation never happened. She said he had his life, and she had hers, and Harrison was happy. He said he’d been planning to ask if his son was happy. She stated that Harrison smiled more than any child she’d ever seen, and she couldn’t bear the thought of what would happen if the truth came out and he lost the daddy he loved so much. She asked him to leave her alone for the sake of their little boy, then she left.

Kyle met Mariah in the Jabot boardroom and told her the news. She asked if he could really stay away from his child. He didn’t know. He noted that he never planned to have this child. He asked how he could have a relationship with a boy who lived halfway around the country and had a father he loved. Mariah noted that Ashland could destroy everything if he found out about the affair. Kyle knew it was a huge mess. He wondered if he should tell Summer. Mariah said secrets had a way of coming to light. Sally walked in without knocking and commented that it seemed like she interrupted something important. Mariah suggested Kyle think on her advice, then she left. Sally was curious what was going on, but she said she wouldn’t pry. He asked if her new job was challenging enough for her. She said it was great and the perfect stepping stone to something bigger. He commented that she was always climbing the ladder. She bristled and asked if he thought she was never satisfied and to hell with everyone else?

Mariah and Tessa were at Society, where they met with Mariah’s lawyer, Brittany Hodges. Mariah wanted the contract to be short and sweet, since Chance and Abby agreed to cover everything. Brittany said they needed to slow down and discuss all the details. Mariah said she wasn’t looking for a payoff. Brittany explained that there was more than money involved. She recommended Mariah see a therapist. Mariah wasn’t sure that was necessary, but Tessa thought Brittany had a point, since this was a big deal. Mariah said she’d talked to her mother, the therapist. Brittany asked if Sharon had concerns. According to Mariah, Sharon thought it might be tough for her because this would be her first pregnancy. Brittany said a lot of people chose surrogates who’d already given birth, but she understood why Chance and Abby chose Mariah. Tessa was concerned because she didn’t see how Mariah wouldn’t bond with the baby growing inside her. Mariah was sure that she would, on some level, but she’d only love the child as a niece or nephew. She said she’d consult with Sharon as her surrogate therapist.

Brittany said they had to discuss other things like doctor’s appointments, who’d be there in the maternity room, if Mariah would express breast milk for the baby. She said Mariah had to be specific about what she felt comfortable with and how these things would be managed.

After Brittany was gone, Mariah and Tessa read about surrogacy on their phones. Mariah asked if Tessa felt like she’d been pushed into going along with this. Tessa didn’t. Despite her anxieties about Mariah’s well being, she thought Mariah was doing an amazingly loving thing. She also thought they should consider this surrogacy a test run to figure out if they wanted a baby. Mariah asked if Tessa was really prepared for the hormonal shifts and mood swings. Tessa said to bring it on, because she was excited for their next journey together.

At the hotel, Phyllis wondered why Summer wasn’t in a better mood after her successful business trip. Summer admitted she let Sally get to her. Phyllis was fed up with Sally. Summer said she could handle Sally, but Phyllis thought that if that were true, Summer would’ve done it by now. Phyllis understood Sally and said she liked leverage and she was dangerous. Phyllis felt that Sally needed to be gotten rid of – if she lost her support and her job, there would be no reason for her to stick around.

Summer appreciated Phyllis’ protectiveness, but she wanted to handle things on her own. Phyllis had no doubt Summer was capable of handling herself, but Sally had mad powerful allies in Lauren and Jack. Phyllis didn’t think Jack should be wasting his time defending Sally. Summer agreed, but she said Jack could take care of himself, just like Summer could. Phyllis said that attitude was why Summer needed her – desperate times called for desperate measures. Phyllis was doing a little investigating to find out what Sally was up to. Summer was more worried about what Phyllis was up to. Phyllis said Summer didn’t need to be worried, since she had plausible deniability. That made Summer even more concerned, but Phyllis said she she knew what she was doing. She told Summer to go back to work.

Summer left, while glancing back at Phyllis with a concerned look. Phyllis grabbed her manager key card and got into the elevator. Phyllis returned with a pink laptop and looked at the search history. Sally had looked up topics such as “Dina Mergeron dies” “Jack Abbott names son Jabot co-CEO” “Jabot to merge with Abbott Exchange” the JCV launch, Traci’s latest novel, and Kyle and Summer’s engagement. Phyllis called Lauren and asked to meet.

Kyle stated that he called Sally ambitious, which wasn’t insult. It sounded like a backhanded compliment to her – code for conniving opportunist. She said he and Summer were alike, and just because Sally wasn’t born into a dynasty, it didn’t mean she didn’t deserve everything she wanted in life. He said she had him all wrong. She stated that he and Summer should move to L.A., because they’d fit in with the vipers and leave Genoa City to the decent people like his father. He asked what the deal was with her and Jack. At that moment, Jack was walking up to the door. Sally said that there was no deal – Jack was a generous and genuine person and it was the most honest relationship she’d made in this town.

Back at Jabot, Kyle questioned Sally and Jack having a relationship. Jack walked in and asked for a moment with his son. Sally left. Kyle asked what was going on between Jack and Sally. Jack asked where that was coming from, and Kyle said anyone could see the sparks between Sally and Jack. He said Summer told him that Phyllis was concerned, and he was starting to wonder if he should be, too. Jack was adamant there was nothing to worry about. Kyle wondered about Sally’s true intentions. Jack said his friendship with Sally was none of Kyle’s concern. Jack asked why Kyle suddenly booked the company jet for a trip to NY, only to cancel it just as suddenly. Summer walked in and expressed surprise that Kyle had been going to NY.

Abby went home looking for her mom, but she wasn’t there. Nina was. Abby said Devon and Mariah met with their lawyers, and everything was good to go. Abby felt relieved because of that and because she had Ashley and Nina with her. Sometimes she felt alone without Chance, but then she looked around her and saw that she was surrounded by love.
