Elena woke up in the morning when Nate came into the hotel room. He told her he’d dozed off while sitting in a lawn chair. She hated the thought of him sleeping outside. He didn’t think it mattered where he slept, because he wasn’t going to get much rest anyway. She felt terrible because this was supposed to be the romantic trip they needed. He thought it turned out to be what they needed even more – a cold hard dose of reality. Nate said that if strangers saw them through the window, they’d probably mistake them for a happy couple. Elena thought they were until yesterday, but now she realized that wasn’t entirely true. He wished they could pretend everything was normal, but her spending the night with Devon made that impossible. She said she’d been awake most of the night trying to figure out a way to make him understand. She said he’d been nothing but kind, understanding and patient with her, but she knew everyone had their limits, and she assumed she’d pushed him past his. He wasn’t mad, because she never made any commitments or promises, and she’d always been up front about being confused and needing time. He thought he should’ve listened more closely to her. She said that what happened with Devon had nothing to do with Nate. Her relationship with Devon ended abruptly, painful and it left things unresolved. She and Devon realized what they had was beautiful, and it was what they needed at the time, but it wasn’t enough to keep them together. Elena realized she wanted to move on with Nate. He wanted to be with her, but he couldn’t do it when he only had a piece of her heart. He wanted all of her. He asked if she could honestly say she could give him that.

Elena thought they were doing the right thing by heading home early. She thanked him for being understanding, and she admitted she had a lot to think about. She’d tried to gloss over that and jump to the good part, because she did genuinely love spending time with him. He said he knew, or he never would’ve stuck it out that long. She understood he didn’t want to sit and wait for her to figure things out. He still hoped things would eventually work out for them.

Devon came downstairs and found Amanda making breakfast. She hoped he didn’t mind her making herself at home. He thought he was supposed to be making omelets. She said she was hungry, and he’d been out cold. He replied that she wore him out. She was a little on edge, and he asked if she was having second thoughts about last night. She wasn’t. She explained that Naya texted this morning asking if she and Amanda could meet today. They ate, and he thought the breakfast was delicious. He wondered if there was anything she couldn’t cook, and he said he had to make omelets at some point to show that he was bringing something to the relationship. She told him he knew that he did bring something to it. He brought up her mom again. Amanda was torn, and she thought it was unfair and insensitive of Naya to ask to meet while the restraining order was still against her. He noted that it was Imani’s doing, not Naya’s. Amanda said that Naya wasn’t brave enough to talk Imani out of doing it. Amanda saw the restraining order of a symbol of aggression and rejection. Devon said Naya came all this way in hopes of meeting Amanda.

Amanda conceded that Naya had made a lot of progress in a short period of time. When Amanda first contacted her, she didn’t seem to care at all about the children she placed for adoption. She supposed it said something that Naya was reaching out to her, despite how Imani and the rest of the family would react. Devon theorized that Naya didn’t want to miss out on knowing Amanda, like she did with Hilary. He thought Amanda made quite an impression, and Naya realized Amanda was valuable to have in her life. That didn’t surprise Devon. Amanda remembered making a negative impression on Devon the first few times they met. He was glad she didn’t hold that against him. He thought they’d grown to be important to each other, and he suggested that could happen with Naya, if Amanda gave her a chance. Later, Devon was alone at his house. He looked troubled as he remembered kissing Elena.

Naya and Amanda met at Crimson Lights. Amanda wondered why Naya sprang this meeting on her. Naya explained that she’d been thinking about doing this for some time. She thought it’d be worse to make plans and cancel at the last minute, like she did before. Amanda asked if Naya invented a cover story to explain where she was going. Naya came here because she wanted to know more about Amanda’s childhood and the people who raised her. Amanda brusquely said she only talked about that with people she knew very well, because it was very hard and complicated. Amanda wanted to hear how Naya grew up and how Naya’s parents - Amanda’s grandparents raised Naya. Amanda said she wouldn’t ask to meet them, because she understood she was still a shameful secret, and she assumed Naya intended to keep it that way.

Naya regretted that she didn’t give Amanda the warmest welcome and that she’d sent mixed messages ever since. Amanda admitted she’d been hoping for a more positive introduction. She’d tried to compartmentalize and convince herself that Naya was irrelevant to her, but she had dreamed of a happy ending. Naya apologized because of the way she’d handled things. She was just unprepared to face the situation, and she admitted that she shouldn’t have been, since she knew her little girls had grown up and would want answers. Naya said, like Amanda, she compartmentalized and pushed down all the memories and emotions of her life from that year so deep that it almost seemed like it happened to someone else. Amanda firmly stated that the difference was that Naya was trying to forget the choices she made, while Amanda had to live with the result of Naya’s decision. Naya admitted she shouldn’t have made the comparison. Amanda said maybe Naya was lucky because she didn’t have to constantly live with the loss of it. Naya said she did everything she could not to feel, but that didn’t mean she succeeded. When Amanda showed up on her doorstep, all the guilt and shame came rushing back. To learn that one of her girls was gone and that she’d never have the chance to explain or apologize was too much to take in all at once. Amanda understood, since she never got the chance to meet Hilary either. Naya knew it was all her fault, but she wanted to know how to move forward.

Naya didn’t want to cause any more pain for Amanda or her family, which included Imani. She said Imani was hurt too, and Naya realized she never should’ve confided in Imani. “More secrets and lies. That’s how you wish you would’ve handled it?,” Amanda scoffed. Naya said sharing the news with Imani only made things worse for everyone. Naya said Imani lashed out at Amanda to protect Naya, and it hurt Amanda even more, which Amanda didn’t deserve. Amanda asked why Naya wanted to meet. Naya didn’t want to lose another daughter without getting to know her. She hoped they would find a way forward where the good outweighed the bad and where the joy of spending time together outweighed the pain. Amanda said that was why she sought Naya out. Naya wanted Amanda to let her make amends. Amanda was sure Imani and the rest of the family would make things challenging. Naya said that was why she wanted to keep this between the two of them, just for now. Amanda thought that sounded self-serving. Naya understood why Amanda thought that, but she said if she wanted to keep things quiet, she wouldn’t be here. Naya really wanted to connect with Amanda. “But only on your terms, huh,” Amanda noted. Amanda was sorry, but she didn’t think she could do it. She rushed out.

Elena ran into Devon at Crimson Lights. He thought she’d still be at the beach. She wondered how he knew about the trip, then she remembered she’d posted a picture of her and Nate on vacation. She said they cut the trip short, and she assumed he could guess why. He asked if she told Nate the truth. She said no – he figured it out on his own, just like she thought he might. She filled him in on how she and Nate left things.

Amanda entered the hotel at the same time Nate was checking in. there was still a construction crew at his place. She saw the picture he posted of him and Elena on the beach. She said that the trip looked relaxing and romantic. He said it was, then he told her he had to go upstairs and get some rest.

Devon met Amanda in the hotel lounge, and she told him about her talk with her mother. Amanda explained that Naya wanted to get to know her, but hide it from her family. It made Amanda feel awful, like a shameful secret. Devon was sorry. Amanda said she tried to come around to it, but she couldn’t. She cried that Naya made it clear that she wasn’t willing to upset her parents, husband or Imani for someone she barely knew. Amanda wasn’t sure where to go from here.

At the cottage, Sharon was going to take Faith to school a little early today, but Faith said she already had a ride. Sharon hoped it wasn’t Jordan. Faith testily asked why Jordan would ever come back here after Sharon blamed her for things that weren’t her fault. Nick walked in and was surprised to see Sharon. He explained that Faith called and said she needed a ride. Sharon said she had every intention of taking Faith to school, but she just found out Faith made other plans. He asked what was going on with Faith and Sharon. Sharon had no time to get into it – she had to get to Crimson Lights, and Rey left early, and she needed to catch up with him, because they needed to talk. Nick said he’d take Faith. Sharon thanked him, then she rushed out.

Adam walked into Crimson Lights and saw Rey. Rey told Adam that, for his sake, he should turn around and walk away. Adam thought it was obvious that Rey was restraining himself from attacking Adam. Adam wanted to know why. He was sure it wasn’t because of Rey walked in on Sharon consoling him. Rey said Adam’s fiancee was still at home trapped in a living hell, while Adam was here entertaining himself with sick games. Adam snapped that Chelsea’s condition was none of Rey’s business. “But my wife is somehow yours?,” Rey countered. Rey spent his entire career busting criminals and he’d never met anyone as irredeemable as Adam. Adam noted that Sharon didn’t see him that way. Sharon came up, and she asked Adam to give them a minute. Adam walked away. Sharon said she didn’t know why Adam was there, and she told Rey to ignore him. She wanted to talk, but he refused to as long as Adam was there. She said she told Adam that she was finished treating Chelsea. He said that was a start, but it didn’t even begin to fix the core problem. He told her that he had to go to the station, and they’d talk when he got home. He left.

Sharon went over to Adam and asked what happened. He said Rey started with him, and it made him wonder if Sharon told him about the kiss. She didn’t, and she asked if Adam did. He didn’t. She said the kiss shouldn’t have happened. Adam said they both knew Sharon kissed him back. She ordered him to stay away from her, because he was ruining her life. She said to let her be happy. He said that was all he wanted. He left. Mariah appeared and asked Sharon what she did, in a tone that said she was dreading the answer. Sharon said she didn’t do anything. She said Adam was being Adam and trying to stir up trouble between her and Rey, but she made it clear that it wasn’t going to happen. She said the problem was Rey let Adam get to him, and Adam took advantage of that. Mariah asked what happened. Sharon said Rey misinterpreted one small thing, and now he was questioning their marriage, which was unreasonable. Mariah didn’t think that sounded like Rey. Sharon said, to be fair, she reached out to Adam and offered to help even though she said she wouldn’t do that anymore, but she put an end to it and told Adam that he’d have to find someone else to treat Chelsea. Mariah thought that Sharon should’ve done that in the first place. She felt that Sharon was asking a lot to ask Rey to go along with this. Sharon noted that Rey left the decision up to her. Mariah thought Rey had hoped Sharon would say no and protect her marriage instead of putting Adam first yet again. Sharon asked why Mariah was being so critical of her. Mariah didn’t want to see Sharon lose the best thing that ever happened to her. Sharon know how great Rey was, that was why she married him. Mariah asked why Sharon couldn’t let Adam go. Sharon admitted she didn’t know, but she couldn’t do this right now. She rushed out, just as Nick came in. Nick wanted to know what happened, and Mariah said Adam was trying to come between Sharon and Rey. Mariah thought Adam seemed to be succeeding.

Nick went to Adam’s to see him. The nurse said he wasn’t there. He saw Chelsea, and the nurse gave them privacy. He apologized for not coming sooner, and he explained that Adam made it sound like she’d be upset if he came. Chelsea wondered when Nick started listening to Adam. “I know, why would I ever listen to Adam, huh?” he asked. He wished she could tell him if she needed anything. Chelsea wished she could tell him to keep his ex wife away from Adam. Nick said Chelsea was one of the strongest people he’d ever met. He’d seen her fight for Adam and Connor, and it would take that kind of strength and energy to beat what she was facing. He was sure she’d bounce back. Adam came home and he was angry Nick was there. Nick said he never should’ve let Adam keep him away from Chelsea. Nick told Adam to stay away from Sharon. Adam said he wouldn’t let Nick say this in front of Chelsea. Nick was pretty sure Chelsea agreed with him. Adam said it was none of Nick’s business, because he’d hire whoever he thought would help Chelsea recover. Nick contended that Adam hired Sharon because he was a narcissist who didn’t like seeing Sharon happy. Chelsea was desperate to find out what happened, and in her head, she asked Nick if Sharon and Adam were having an affair. Adam showed Nick the door, and Chelsea silently screamed at Nick to stay and tell her what happened. Adam called the nurse in to stay with Chelsea, then he followed Nick outside. In the hall, he asked what Nick thought he accomplished. Nick said that Adam had pushed Sharon past her breaking point too many times, and Nick wouldn’t allow that to happen again.

Sharon went home, and she looked at her wedding picture with Rey. She texted him that she wanted to get together so they could work things out. She flashed back to Adam asking her why Rey would thinks he might still love loved Adam. She remembered the kiss she and Adam shared, then she looked at her wedding photo again.

Rey went to Society, and Lola told him she was working on the Valentine’s day menu. She asked if he and Sharon wanted anything special. He said they’d have to get back to her. She asked what was wrong. He tried to downplay it, but she could tell something was bothering him. He told her that they’d been arguing about Adam. He felt like Sharon was breaking her promise to cut Adam out. As much as he hated to admit it, it started to remind him of Mia and Arturo. He’d thought he and Sharon were a thousand times stronger than he and Mia were, but now he was starting to wonder if his love for Sharon made him blind. Maybe he’d made the same mistake twice. It was hard for Lola to be objective after what she went through with Kyle. She wasn’t comparing Sharon and Kyle, because Kyle was immature and didn’t know or understand his feelings. Lola thought the same was true for Mia. She saw parallels between Sharon and their mom. Celeste knew what kind of man their father was, but she couldn’t resist him – he never deserved her, but she took him back over and over again, no matter what Arturo and Rey said. Rey assumed Lola was saying that he should’ve seen this coming and that Sharon would never let Adam go.

Lola wasn’t making a prediction, and she was rooting for Sharon and Rey. She felt sorry for Sharon, in a way, like she felt sorry for Celeste having to look back on all the time shew wasted on someone unworthy. Rey said if Adam were a decent person, he wouldn’t be so disgusted – it’d still hurt, but it bothered him more than Sharon was willing to risk what they had over someone like Adam. Lola was sure Sharon was saying that same thing to herself – she’d love to be free of the feelings of someone she couldn’t respect. He tried to see things from Sharon’s side, but he couldn’t deal with being around Adam, and if Sharon expected him to, that wasn’t going to work.

Sharon started to text Rey asking how to fix it, but then she deleted it. She got an alarming call and asked if Faith was okay. She rushed out of the house.

Adam told Chelsea that Nick was bitter that Adam and Victor were in a better place. Chelsea said to herself that this wasn’t about Victor, it was about Adam pursuing Sharon. Adam decided to change the subject and he said he’d play some music for Chelsea. Chelsea internally called Adam a coward and demanded he tell her what he was up to. She decided she already knew, and she called him a bastard.
