At Crimson Lights, on the patio, Nate told Elena that she didn’t seem like her usual self. She said she was probably just a little disappointed he didn’t have the morning off, like she did. Amanda came in, and Nate asked about her trip to NY. He knew about it because Charlie posted a picture of her and Lily. Amanda said it was nice to get away. She’d love to catch up, but she had to go to work. After she left, Elena commented on how Nate and Amanda were at ease with each other, like friends. He said maybe she and Devon would get there too. Elena looked into the restaurant and saw Devon inside. Nate said that if he and Devon ever became close again, he’d have Elena to thank for it. He said she was the one who encouraged him to mentor his cousin, Moses, and since he’d be staying with Devon, they’d all be spending a lot of time together. Nate saw the look on Elena’s face, and he urged her to trust him enough to tell him what was wrong. She flashed back to her recent night with Devon. She told him that it was nothing that spending more time with him wouldn’t fix. She said they’d just been working too hard. She was ready to go on that romantic getaway he’d offered to take her on awhile ago. He was excited, and he said he’d try and rearrange their schedules at the hospital, so they could leave right away.

Nate went into the coffeehouse and told Devon he and Elena just finished breakfast. Devon said thanks for letting him know. Nate asked if they knew what day Moses would be there. Devon didn’t. Sofia was still trying to coordinate things with Moses’ school. They parted ways, and Nate left. Devon went out to the patio and sat with Elena. Nate came back for something he forgot, and he saw them together.

Back on the patio, Elena asked if Devon ran into Nate. He said he did, and they only discussed Moses. He assured her that he’d never say anything to Nate to make him think something changed between Devon and Elena. She was glad, because as far as she was concerned, nothing had changed. She still wanted to see if she and Nate could build something solid. She wasn’t saying this to hurt Devon. He said of course not. He wouldn’t want to hurt her either. As far as he was concerned, nothing happened the other day. She said it wasn’t that simple, since the morning after the storm, she ran into Nate, and he noticed things were different. Part of her wondered if she should tell Nate the truth, but she had to consider what that would do to Devon’s relationships with Nate and Amanda. He told her not to hide this to protect her. She felt she’d ruined enough for him. He said she didn’t. He made the decision to be with her, knowing the consequences. “I love you. And what we had was very real,” he said. He’d doubted that for awhile, given the way it ended, but he didn’t anymore. “That’s what that night did for me,” he said. He told her they didn’t have to tell anyone what happened. He stopped to reply to a text from Amanda. He promised Elena everything would be fine.

A worried Abby texted Chance because he didn’t come home last night. She left Rey a message asking if he and Chance were on a case. The doorbell rang, and it was Nina, who said Christine told her to meet her here at the house. Abby panicked, thinking something happened to Chance. Abby told Nina that Chance couldn’t father a child as a result of the shooting, so they were going to use a donor, and he said that was what he wanted. She was sure he wouldn’t take off just because of that though, and she didn’t understand how Christine fit into it. The doorbell rang, and Abby rushed to it. It was Christine. She revealed that Chance had to leave, and he wouldn’t be back for awhile. She mentioned that Chance spent time in Vegas as an undercover federal agent. Abby said Adam was responsible for someone’s death – she asked if Chance was in trouble because of something that maniac did. Christine assured Abby that Chance wasn’t in trouble. The feds needed him again, so they took him. Christine got looped in because of her federal connections and her relationship with the agent’s family. She wasn’t permitted to say where Chance was or when he was coming back. She gave them letters that Chance wrote, and she urged them to remember that he was a hero. She left.

Abby and Nina read their letters from Chance, in which he explained that he had to do his part and take this case. He promised to do whatever it took to come home to Abby and the baby. He asked her to go forward with the surrogacy, even without him. He asked Nina to look after Abby and her grandchild. Chance promised Abby he’d be home as soon as he could, and it said he loved her. Abby cried that Chance didn’t even say how long he’d be gone – it could be years. Nina was sure he wouldn’t have gone if it’d take years. Abby argued that saving the world took longer than a couple of weeks, and since he said he’d come home to the baby, that meant he’d be gone a long time. Nina thought Chance was telling them to live, instead of curling up in a ball. Abby said Chance was doing something big and dangerous. Nina assured Abby that Chance was as tough as they came, and nothing would stand in his way of getting home to Abby and the baby. Nina said that they’d pray for Chance, and in the meantime, they’d make a family for him and Abby and make Nina a grandma.

Nina looked at a list of potential donors. Abby didn’t want to do this – it was too fast. Nina thought Abby needed something to focus on, because it’d make the time a little less lonely. Abby said this was never just about having a baby – it was about doing it with Chance. Nina said part of her was thinking that if Abby made this baby, it’d bring Chance home. Nina’s said babies equaled hope and love, and she knew Abby and Chance loved each other. Abby was scared. Nina was too. Abby wasn’t sure what to do. Nina asked what Abby felt when she found out she couldn’t carry a baby and that Chance couldn’t father one. Abby said she thought all that mattered was starting their family. Nina said that didn’t have to change. Mariah came over to the house, and Abby explained that Chance had been called away on a case, but she and Chance wanted to go forward with the surrogacy, if Mariah was willing. Mariah wanted to keep her promise, but she didn’t want Abby to go through this alone. Nina said she’d be there for Abby. Mariah was honored to help. Mariah said Abby was already one of the best moms she knew.

Victoria went to ChanceComm to talk to Billy. He was going to take her to his office, but she saw Lily walking by, and she asked if they could go get breakfast instead. He went to Lily’s office and brought her up to speed. She was surprised he was going to breakfast with Victoria, after the way she gave him the cold shoulder last night. Billy said that Victoria texted back last night asking if they could talk. He thought he might even get one of those elusive Newman apologies. Lily joked they should alert the media. She reminded him that they had plans this afternoon, and he promised he’d be back in time.

After Billy was gone, Amanda arrived, and she talked with Lily about work. Amanda had to run something by Billy. Lily explained where she was. She said Victoria had been running hot and cold, and Billy was trying to iron things out, for the kids. Amanda asked if Lily knew why Victoria was being that way. Lily had an idea, but she was curious what Amanda thought. Amanda said she hardly knew Victoria. Lily knew, but she noted that Amanda and Billy were pretty close when he and Victoria split. Amanda said Billy told her his side of the story, but she heard a completely different take from Victoria. Lily knew Victoria thought Amanda and Billy had an affair. Amanda said she and Billy were at a point where they needed someone to talk to, and she was a good listener. Lily thought that was almost worse for Victoria that Billy would confide in Amanda instead of her. Amanda said Billy felt like he was always disappointing Victoria and that she’d be let down if he told her what was really going on with him. He felt he’d never live up to Jack and Victoria’s standards – they wanted him to be more steady, reliable and successful. Victoria felt like Billy was unfairly blaming her for his problems. Lily said it must be strange for Victoria to see how much Billy changed. Amanda thought Lily really felt for Victoria. Lily was just trying to understand where Victoria was coming from, and Amanda helped a lot.

Devon met Amanda at The Grand Phoenix. She asked what she missed while she was gone. He said it was the same stuff. He asked if she heard from her birth mother. Naya had sent a few short texts saying hi. Amanda had planned to ignore them, but then she saw the connection between Lily and Charlie, and it gave her second thoughts. She knew that they’d never be as close, but she thought maybe they could salvage something from this. She wondered if he thought this was a bad idea. He didn’t. He missed talking to her while she was gone. She joked that he meant he missed listening, since she was the one who usually did all the talking when they were together. She asked how he was so good at getting her to spill all her secrets. He said that he had that effect on people. She smiled and said one day, she’d get all him to spill all his secrets.

Elena met Nate at Society and they had margaritas. He’d cleared their schedules and booked their flight to Manzanillo. It left in a few hours, so he said they’d better drink up and start packing. He was sure it’d be perfect – warm, beautiful beaches, no work, crises or distractions. She said that was just what she wanted.

At Society, Billy told Victoria that he didn’t understand where she was coming from. He wanted to know what she meant last night when she texted that she’d overreacted. He asked if he did something, and she said no. It meant a lot to her that he said he regretted the times he hurt her. She admitted she felt jealous that Johnny and Katie took to Lily. She wasn’t proud of that, but she was sorry for how she reacted. He appreciated the honesty, but he said she blocked him from seeing his kids. She said she felt the need to pull away because of the changes. He didn’t understand why him dating someone else was such a big change. She said it wasn’t - she made a mistake, and she felt terrible because the kids really missed him last night.

Billy appreciated how hard it was for Victoria to admit she was threatened by Lily, but it made it hard for him to trust her assurance that she was okay with him dating Lily. Victoria swore she was okay with it. She thought Lily was much better than some other options, like Phyllis. She said Lily was a good mother and good woman who’d likely agree with what she was about to say. She thought that they should pull back on the amount of time Lily spent with the kids. Victoria said it was a challenging for her, who was an adult who could manage her emotions, so imagine what it’d be like for the children when they found out what was going on between Lily and Billy. He said he was in no hurry to tell the kids that Lily was anything other than a colleague. She said he wasn’t subtle when he was in love, and the kids would pick up on it when they saw the way he looked at and talked about Lily. She thought that would be more confusing for the kids than if he just flat out told them the truth. She knew this would sound self-serving, but she was looking out for their children’s needs, and she was asking him to do the same.

Billy thought the kids would be fine. He said if they acted like it was normal and positive for him to see someone else, the kids would accept that. He knew that because that’s how it was with Phyllis. She said she’d support him, but it wasn’t like when the kids were little and they just accepted what they were told. He said the kids liked Lily. She asked what happened when he and Lily split up. She noted that he’d been serious with a lot of women, but never for very long. He felt that was a cheap shot. She said it was accurate though, and the odds weren’t good that Lily would be the exception to the rule. He asked if she just expected her relationship to fail. She said his love life was none of her business, but she wanted him to be smart and sure before he added potentially destabilizing elements to the kids’ lives. She felt the kids had been through enough turmoil.

Billy went back to work and told Lily what Victoria said. Lily was okay backing away from the kids if Billy thought it was the right thing to do. He wasn’t sure it was the right decision. He said the kids could be confused if they continued to present Lily as a colleague, but on the other hand, if the kids never knew he was with Lily, and he and Victoria kept spending time together, they might assume their parents were going to get back together. Lily didn’t want to be presented as the reason Billy and Victoria weren’t getting back together. He said he wouldn’t let that happen. The bottom line was Victoria didn’t think he should tell the kids until he was sure that his relationship with Lily was built to last. He said he was sure. Billy admitted he could’ve said that more elegantly instead of blurting it out, but it was true – he was sure she was the one. He wasn’t sure she felt the same way yet. She assured him that she was in full agreement with him.

Victoria was at work. Hannah called to say Billy arranged to spend time with the kids this afternoon. Victoria said that was fine. She was just getting out of a meeting, and she assumed that was why Billy didn’t call her to set it up. She asked if Billy happened to mention if he was bringing anyone with him when he saw the kids. Hannah said Billy would be alone, and Victoria said great. She ended the call, then she had her secretary cancel her afternoon meeting.
