At the Chancellor mansion, Abby told Chance that the news said the storm might knock the power out. Mariah dropped by. She still hadn’t made a decision about surrogacy. She’d come to get more information. Abby was happy to answer. Mariah asked what the first step would be. Abby explained that the doctor would do a full medical workup and make sure Mariah could carry to term, and after that, the doctor would go in depth about the process. Mariah asked how many doctor’s visits it’d take, because she didn’t want to interfere with her new job at Jabot. Chance and Abby said they’d work around her schedule. Abby asked Chance to get them something warm to drink, and so he left the room. Mariah admitted her biggest concern was what would happen if she agreed to this and it didn’t work. Abby didn’t know what she’d do if surrogacy failed, but not trying wasn’t an option. Mariah asked why Abby was trying to have a baby right after marriage. Abby said that Chance brought up the idea of starting a family before they got married. Mariah remembered Abby was concerned if she’d be a good mother. Abby said she wasn’t concerned, it was just that she realized Chance was the guy, and she had to let that sink in. Mariah got goosebumps hearing Abby talk about the love she and Chance shared. Abby said she and Chance could still make their dreams come true, but it’d just look different than they imagined.

Abby had a visceral longing for a child that she couldn’t put into words. She also couldn’t put into words what it’d mean for Mariah to make their dreams a reality. Abby hoped that didn’t feel like pressure. Mariah said Abby was just being open, and if she went through with the surrogacy, there wouldn’t be many secrets between them. Abby went upstairs to prepare a guest room for Mariah, since the storm made it unsafe to travel. Mariah called Tessa to say she’d be spending the night. Tessa was stranded at Crimson Lights, so she was going to sleep at Lola’s. Mariah told Tessa that Chance and Abby would make such good parents, and they were being incredibly careful with their feelings. Mariah asked if Tessa would still love her with stretch marks and looking like she was carrying an exercise ball. Tessa said yes, and she’d support Mariah. Later, Chance and Abby walked into the living room. Mariah said she talked with Tessa. She wouldn’t even consider doing this if Tessa wasn’t up for it, but she was, and so was Mariah. Mariah said to make the appointment because she wanted to help them have a baby. They were thrilled.

Elena was disappointed to learn that it’d take a long time for her to get a tow truck. Devon apologized for making Elena uncomfortable when he asked if she had feelings for Nate before what happened at the clinic. However, he said that if she was serious about them being friends, it’d be easier for him if he had an understanding about what happened between them and why. She didn’t see the point of rehashing this. He said he needed to make sense of why he didn’t see any signs leading up to it. He’d been replaying their relationship trying to figure out when things changed. He wanted to know when she realized she wanted Nate and not Devon. She said it wasn’t like that – she wasn’t conflicted or hiding feelings for Nate. She loved Devon, and she wasn’t trying to figure out a way out of the relationship.

Elena said if Devon really wanted to understand what went wrong with them, he had to be honest too. He was interested in hearing if he did anything to cause the breakup. She said she wasn’t the only woman in his thoughts. He said he’d felt obligated to help Amanda learn about Hilary. That’s all it was. She reminded him he’d admitted it was liberating to immerse himself in memories of Hilary in front of the woman who looked exactly like her. He said that he didn’t see Hilary when he looked at Amanda. Elena said maybe not now, but there was definitely something going on then, otherwise, he wouldn’t have felt the need to hide it from her. He said he he didn’t hide it because something was going on between him and Amanda – he hid it because he knew it was bothering Elena. She said he knew she felt insecure, and he told her he wouldn’t see Amanda anymore, then he went back on his word. She said she didn’t imagine the bond between him and Amanda, just like she wasn’t imagining how close he and Amanda were now. He stammered that wouldn’t argue that. She wasn’t blaming him, and she said he didn’t drive her to sleep with Nate. She was just telling him where her head was. She felt like she was competing with the love of his life and her twin. She didn’t sleep with Nate out of revenge, but that night, she felt wanted and needed, and Devon hadn’t made her feel that way in a long time.

Elena stated that none of this was news to Devon, because she’d said this more than once. She didn’t think it would change things. He said it did change things. He admitted sharing the stories with Amanda got him caught up in what he had with Hilary, and the resemblance made things more intense. He said he made a lot of mistakes, and the biggest one was dismissing Elena when she told him how she felt about him spending time with Amanda. He said he should’ve cherished Elena, instead of getting caught up in his past and neglecting his present. He said she didn’t deserve any of that. He was sorry he made her feel like she wasn’t needed. She didn’t blame him. She said the woman he loved was resurrected, and as much as it hurt Elena, she understood wanting to feel that again and hold onto what was so unfairly taken. He said he already had something – he had love he never thought he’d have again. He said he had their love in his hands, and he let it go. He rubbed her cheek, and they cried, then they shared a soft kiss. They moved to the couch and kissed again deeply.

At the Abbott mansion, Sally marveled at the feast she and Jack just ate. He said Mrs. Martinez was an incredible cook. She appreciated him sharing his dinner, and he said it was better than eating alone. She didn’t mean to impose, and he said he’d do this for anyone eating alone. Sally returned after checking on her car. It was covered in icicles, so she didn’t know if she could leave. He said he’d never let her drive in these conditions. He offered her the guest room and a drink to take the chill off. She accepted.

Over drinks, Jack asked what Sally’s parents did. She said they were carnies who abandoned her and her sister when they were young. Their grandmother raised them, and it left a hole in Sally’s heart that she hadn’t been able to fill. She learned to fight and scrap for everything she wanted, then she took her great aunt Sally as an inspiration. She rubbed people who didn’t think she belonged in the fashion world the wrong way. She intended to do more. He thought she’d be successful. Now she wanted to hear his life story. He was fifteen when his mother left, but he spent most of his childhood in a stable two parent home. He said that lead to opportunities that Sally didn’t have. He noted that Kyle didn’t have that stability either, so Jack was impressed by Sally and Kyle’s successes. Sally thought Kyle inherited Jack’s work ethic, but he said Kyle got it from his mom, who was a successful architect. Sally said normally, a guy in Kyle’s financial position wouldn’t be so responsible. Jack said Kyle and Theo had some wild days in NY. Sally looked pleased to get this information. Jack was going to show Sally to her room, but she said she’d find it with directions. He told her how to get there. He wished her sweet dreams, and she went upstairs.

Summer and Kyle played a card game. She won, and that meant he had to raid the vending machine and bring back all her favorites without using his hands. He wasn’t sure that was physically possible. She said he was very limber. He returned with lots of snacks. He wanted to play the quiet game – the first person who made a noise lost. She agreed. He took off his shirt and she inhaled. He said he won.

Later, Kyle and Summer redressed, and she made an offhand comment that lead to talk of Sally. He wasn’t sure it was wise to hold Sally’s past over her. She thought it was the best way to keep Sally in check, but he wondered if it’d make Sally more determined to undermine Summer. Summer said that Sally was new and working without a net. She thought Sally’s chance of taking her job were the same as her taking Summer’s man – zero. Summer said she didn’t agree with Kyle about Sally. She said that Sally tried to hide it, but Summer could tell Sally was freaking out. She thought Sally knew exactly what would happen if her past came out. He said he’d defer to her judgment. Summer said that everyone knew the stupid things she and Kyle did, so no one could try and blackmail them. Kyle’s back was turned to Summer, and he looked uncertain, but he nodded.

Billy was still at Victoria’s, and their kids were finally asleep. She noted that it was quiet now that they weren’t trying to work from home, but he said snow days were meant for getting rowdy. She was glad he stayed, since the kids were disappointed when her trip got canceled because that meant they wouldn’t get to hang out with their dad. She showed him the kids’ report cards. Johnny was doing better in math – a B+, and his teacher said he was a charmer. Victoria thanked Billy for continuing to show up so the four of them could spend time together as a family. Sometimes she wondered how they got here to this place. He said it was kind of amazing when you thought about all the things he put her through. She admitted she screwed up too. He said that she followed through on her promises, but with him it was a crap shoot. He said he’d hurt her, put her in danger, and he didn’t want a free pass for being a jackass. She used to tell herself that he was most of the reason their relationship failed. He said she was right. She’d now realized that she caused half of their problems. She had baggage from being a Newman, and she put unreasonable expectations on him. She didn’t blame him for wanting a break. He said he took it too far – he drank, gambled, cheated on her, disappeared on her. She said they had happy times too. He was sorry for putting her through the wringer.

Victoria didn’t want Billy to apologize anymore. He thanked her for taking him home when she found him in the gutter that New Year’s Eve, years ago. He said she saved his life that day, and she did it again when she decided she couldn’t put up with him anymore. He said the last few years he gave a pretty convincing performance that he was putting his life back together. He convinced a lot of people, including himself that it was true, but not her. He said she could see he was faking it and she held his feet to the fire and decided she didn’t want to do it anymore. That forced him to grow the hell up and be the man he was pretending to be, to value what he had and keep his priorities straight. He was a work in progress who’d make mistakes, but he liked who he was. She said she knew he had it in him. He said she was running Newman – the powerhouse leader he always knew she was, and she continued to be an amazing mother. She thanked him. He asked if she’d find a man who deserved her. She said she was busy now, but she was sure she’d date again in the future. She asked how serious things were with Lily. He said once you got to a certain age, you understood what it took to be in an adult relationship. She thought that meant things were pretty serious. He knew Victoria might feel uneasy about him bringing another woman into the kids’ lives, but he assured her he and Lily were going to take it slow. There was something else she’d been wondering. There was a crash so they went to see what happened. It turned out Johnny knocked over a chair on his way to the bathroom. Billy said he’d sleep in the guest room. Victoria said it was a good day for the kids. He knew these times wouldn’t last forever, but he’d take them where he could get them.
