At the Abbott house, Jack saw that Traci was sad, and he was immediately concerned. She tried to keep quiet, but he wouldn’t stop trying to get the story out of her, so she decided she’d tell him what was going on so he didn’t inadvertently say something that hurt Abby. Later, he felt bad that Abby and Chance got news like this so early in their lives together. Traci mentioned that Abby and Chance had tried to conceive before they were married. Jack felt cheated out of raising a child from birth. Traci talked about the intensity of parenthood, and when you were a mother, the child was literally part of you for nine months. He said she suffered the worst loss a parent could have, and she channeled that pain into wisdom. He admired her resilience and grace. She didn’t want to be resilient or graceful – she just wanted Colleen back. She laughed through tears imagining that she might be a grandmother by now if Colleen were here. He wondered if he’d made things harder for Abby, when he went on and on about Dina’s last wish being that they find love and have a perfect future. He said he set the bar too high. Traci said Jack reminded everyone to have hope, which was such a beautiful gift.

Jack thanked Traci for telling him about Abby’s predicament. He understood she wanted to honor their niece’s privacy, but if something was going on in this family, he needed to know about it. She agreed, and she knew Abby would understand. He said their parents were gone, and he was more and more aware of how important it was to maintain familial connections. He was grateful they could still confide in each other. She said that would never change. He laughed that they sounded like the family elders. She said she felt like a kid. He said if someone had told him in his Smilin’ Jack days that he’d sound like… “Dad,” she finished. She said that he’d always wanted to be like their dad, and now he was. He thought that was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to him. She said Abbotts came together when they needed it, and she believed with their love and support, Chance and Abby could get through this.

At the Chancellor house, Abby imagined overhearing Chance talking on the phone about her inability to carry a child. He said that she had a miscarriage years ago, when she was married to the doctor who had that psycho kid, and now she couldn’t get pregnant. He regretted marrying her since she couldn’t have a baby. After the vision faded away, Abby picked up the baby’s first Christmas ornament and held it to her heart. Chance came downstairs and asked if she’d been sleepwalking. She said her head was a jumble of things that everyone had said to her recently – the doctor, other specialists, her aunt, Victor, and Chance. He urged her to eat, since she hadn’t had anything all day. She didn’t want him to take this the wrong way, but she needed some time alone, and she decided to go for a drive. He said he’d go too, and he wouldn’t say anything – she wouldn’t even know he was there. He’d drive, and she could look out the window and think. She said she didn’t want him holding her up right now. She needed time. He wanted to go through this with her – that was what marriage was about. She wanted everything with him – kids, a family, but right now she needed time to think. He said to take all the time she needed. After Abby left, Victor dropped in to check on her. When he found out Abby was gone, he questioned Chance letting her be alone in this state. That was the last thing Chance wanted, but he couldn’t talk Abby out of it. He said Abby kept taking hits from all the specialists Victor called in. Victor noted that Abby asked for a second opinion, and Chance testily asked if that had to happen today. Victor said that if he decided to call in specialists to help his daughter, he’d do so. Chance stated that he was Abby’s husband and Victor’s efforts didn’t help.

Chance was sorry if it seemed like he was angry with Victor, because he wasn’t. He was just upset with the situation. At work, he was usually in control, and now he was watching Abby break again and again and he couldn’t do a thing about it. Victor said this could put a strain on the marriage. He asked how Chance was. Chance claimed he’d be fine, but he was choked up. Victor told him to pour himself a tequila, and they’d talk. Chance did so. He said he and Abby made all these plans to have several kids. This wasn’t the news he expected so early in the marriage. Victor said when he was younger, he wanted to create an empire, and when he had kids, his perspective changed. Then he wanted to build a legacy for his family. Having kids changed his life for the better. Chance said he’d heard about Victor’s accomplishments his entire life, but he’d never thought about what motivated him. Chance said he’d daydreamed about kids with Abby. Victor asked if this changed how he felt about Abby. Chance said nothing could push him away from Abby. Victor liked hearing that.

Victor was glad Chance and Abby were together. Chance appreciated that. Victor always felt Chance was a man of honor and integrity but he just needed to hear that for himself. Victor said Abby had been through a lot, but she was strong, and she’d pull through. Chance said when he got shot, Abby practically willed him back to life. He couldn’t wait to follow through on the promise he made to her when he said his vows. Victor knew the future wouldn’t look like the vision Chance had, with children of his own, but there were other avenues to get children. He said the question was whether Abby would be able to embrace a new vision of having a family and whether Chance would be willing to support her.

Abby went to Society, which was closed, and poured herself a stiff drink. She imagined seeing Nikki and Victor talking about her. They were concerned, and Nikki remembered how upset Abby had been after her miscarriage especially after she found out it was caused deliberately by that troubled young boy who couldn’t handle Abby replacing his mother. Victor was concerned about how far down Abby would spiral. Abby said that there was nothing anyone could do, but as Nikki and Victor weren’t really there, they didn’t respond. Victor said even Ashley couldn’t get through to Abby, and if anyone knew how this felt, it was Ashley. Nikki remembered how much Ashley suffered when she lost her baby, Robert. Victor said Ashley lost herself for awhile. He said Abby was a Newman – she’d pull through. He just wished she recognized the options she had.

Abby went to Crimson Lights, and she ran into Mariah. She said Chance was wrecked by this too, but he’d been calm and understanding. She said he knew she was broken and so did everyone else. People got pregnant all the time by accident, and she couldn’t do it on purpose. Mariah said that this was something that happened to Abby – she had no control over it. It was just something that was. Mariah thought it sucked that someone as kind, warm and generous as Abby had to go through this. She said no one would think of Abby as less-than. She asked if Abby would ever think that about someone else, and Abby said of course not. Mariah said no one pitied Abby or thought they she was broken – they were sad and disappointed for her, but that wasn’t pity, it was love. Abby knew she had a lot to be grateful for, and she knew she wasn’t the first to get this kind of news, but it hurt to know she’d never have that connection again or feel a baby kick, or tell Chance they were pregnant. She said she’d never feel a baby grow inside her or be in awe of what her body could do, since she couldn’t anymore. Mariah told Abby to go rest, because tomorrow would be a better day.

Abby went to The Grand Phoenix, and Phyllis wasn’t happy to see her. Abby wanted a room, and Phyllis assumed she and Chance had a fight. Abby said they did not have a fight. She was dealing with personal issues. Phyllis sniped about the state of Abby’s marriage. Abby cried that her marriage was great, and they were looking forward to the future. Phyllis asked what was wrong with Abby. Abby decided to leave. Phyllis gave Abby a room for free, and said to just go. Abby asked why Phyllis was being so nice. Phyllis said she was a nice person.

Abby went to her room and texted Chance that she’d be sleeping at the hotel. She said she loved him. She had a dream about a crying baby. She got up and soothed them. In reality, she woke up to an empty room and a text from Chance saying there was no pressure to come back, but he was there if she needed him.

The next day, Victor went to the hotel for a business meeting, and Phyllis mentioned that Abby was at the hotel. He asked how she was, and Phyllis said not good. She decided not to discuss it, since it was none of her business. The person Victor was meeting with pulled out of the meeting. Abby came downstairs and asked if Phyllis called Victor. She said no. Abby thought it was weird that he was there. He explained about his meeting, and she asked why he’d have it there after she sold it. He forgot she sold it, and he thought it was her hotel. They moved on. She’d done some soul searching, and she felt more at peace. She had to get home to Chance. He said to call if she needed anything, and she thanked him and left. Phyllis commented that Abby seemed happier, and she decided to take credit for that, since Abby found the answers at Phyllis’ hotel. Victor asked if it was Phyllis’s hotel, and she said it was fully hers, so she deserved to know what was going on. He said to have a nice day, and he left.

Abby went home, and she and Chance agreed that they needed to talk. He said he loved her. He didn’t want to fix this for her or tell her how to feel, and he was sorry if that’s how it seemed last night, but he wanted to be by her side. She wanted that too. She was devastated she couldn’t carry a child and it was crushing to hear that three times in a row from three doctors. It was the biggest disappointment of her life. She wanted to go through the pregnancy thing with him, but she could still be a mom, and they could still have their own child. She said they had to look at all the options. She wondered why he was so quiet – did he still want to look at the options? He absolutely did. He didn’t want her to rush into this or to rush for his sake. She said she was doing this because it was what she wanted 100%. That’s how he felt too. She said she was going to over-resesarch like she did everything else, and she’d want instant answers and probably drive him crazy, but in the end, they’d have a child. He said she was amazing, and he couldn’t wait to get started on this adventure with her.
