Sharon went to Society. She saw Adam and turned around to leave without him noticing. Victor walked in and wondered why Sharon was leaving already. She said she forgot something. She asked about Chelsea, and he felt she could ask Adam, since he was right there. She said they talked about it yesterday, and she didn’t want to bother him. Victor mused that there were few people in town willing to show Adam sympathy. He said goodbye and continued to Adam’s table.
Victor was glad Adam was able to meet. Adam said he needed to keep busy, since Chelsea’s doctor wanted to work with her alone. He hadn’t seen any progress at all. The doctor had said it took time, it was too early to tell. He thought it was a cliché. Victor advised Adam to be patient and give Dr. Cavett time to do her work. He said there were rare occurrences sometimes. Adam asked if Victor was talking about a miracle, because he didn’t think that would happen. Victor hadn’t wanted to say that word because he knew Adam would dismiss it, but he thought it was a miracle that he and Adam were sitting here. Adam said he was grateful for what Victor had done.
Adam went home and called Chelsea, but she wasn’t there. Sharon came by and brought Adam some books on long term care and stress management. She was concerned and wanted to know how he was. At that moment, the nurse brought Chelsea home. Sharon told Chelsea she’d come by to see how things were going. Adam told Chelsea it was nice for them to get a visitor. “She’s not here for me Adam. She’s here for you. Get her the hell out of our home now,” Chelsea thought. Sharon thought Chelsea was upset, so she decided to leave. Adam said he and Chelsea were happy Sharon was there. Meanwhile, Chelsea was screaming inside her head for Sharon to get out. Sharon started toward the door, because she didn’t want to upset Chelsea. Adam asked Sharon to stay. He was sure Chelsea understood that Sharon was being considerate. Sharon apologized for coming by unannounced, and she left.
At the penthouse, Adam told Chelsea that Sharon’s intentions were good, and any past tension didn’t matter at a time like this. He thought they needed all the help they could get, and he said Sharon was a good friend. Adam got a call. Chelsea imagined that Sharon came back and kissed Adam. Chelsea made a strained noise, and Adam hung up the phone and ran over to see what she was trying to say. He urged her to try it again. Then he said there was no need to rush, but she’d expressed herself, and that was a step forward. He promised they’d get her well.
At ChanceComm, Billy told Lily about ice skating with his kids. Johnny was good, but Katie was fantastic. He wanted her to play hockey. He said he’d send Lily a video Victoria took. She didn’t realize Victoria would be there. He didn’t either, but Victoria’s plans changed, and she came along. Lily said she was glad they had a good time. Victoria dropped by with Billy’s tablet. She said he left it at her place last night. Lily said it was nice for Victoria to bring it. Billy thanked Victoria. Victoria told Lily that Billy was so attached to his electronics that he used to name them. She shared that he had an e-reader named Wendy. Lily thought it was from Peter Pan, but Billy said it was from a Springsteen song. He said it was a work day, so they should get back to work. Victoria said she and the kids had a wonderful time, and Billy said she did too. She left.
Lily thought Victoria missed Billy. He thought she was misreading Victoria, whom he believed was happy to be rid of him. Lily said yesterday wasn’t the first time Victoria put up a roadblock when she found out Billy and Lily had plans. Then Victoria’s schedule magically cleared up to make it a family affair. He said it was a coincidence. “The CEO of Newman Enterprises, a very busy woman, had time to bring your tablet her so that I could know skate night was a big success,” Lily said. Billy started to say something, but Lily interrupted and said she’d laugh if he said that Victoria was incapable of manipulation. He revealed he was going to say Victoria liked Lily and she was glad Lily and Billy were together. Lily thought that Victoria wanted her to know Billy and Victoria were together last night. Billy said that Victoria didn’t want anything to do with him, and she was only concerned for their kids. “If you say so,” Lily replied.
Lily wanted to expand AskMDNow’s online presence. She started to explain her view. Billy quickly agreed and changed the subject to their relationship. He wondered if Lily accused Victoria of setting up roadblocks to give herself an excuse to pull away from him. “I just could help but think you know – Victoria shows up here and you’re thinking ‘God, I really like Billy but I don’t want to deal with that,’” he said. Lily said she didn’t play games like that. Billy said he knew, and she wondered if he was sure. She suggested he was carrying around baggage from past relationships – she knew he’d dated a lot of manipulators. He knew she wasn’t like his exes, which was another reason he loved being with her. She said maybe he wasn’t used to someone telling him what they were thinking. He was getting used to that. He just wanted to make sure tehre wasn’t any residual fallout from their conversation about Summer. She said they already talked about that, and they were good, and if she had issues, she’d bring them up, so he could stop worrying. It felt amazing to him to have all the issues out in the open. He wanted to rent an ice rink and take her skating to celebrate. She said they had work to do. He pretended to skate around the room, and she laughed.
When Victoria got to work, Nikki was in her office. She hoped that Victoria was late because she took some time for herself. Victoria said she’d been running a quick errand. Nikki was in a good mood because she closed a deal. The best part was that Victoria and Nikki were going to Hawaii to sign the contract. Victoria didn’t think travel was necessary. Nikki said the developers wanted to do this face to face, and since Honolulu was the halfway point between here and Japan, that’s where they wanted to meet. The developers already made the arrangements, and Nikki thought it would be rude not to go. She said why not go when they could be signing papers on a beautiful sun-drenched lanai. Victoria ordered Nikki to stop it right there.
Victoria told Nikki to stop saying she was working too hard. She felt she was working the right amount, and she didn’t need some cooked up business trip to get away. Nikki groaned. She thought Victoria was acting like this was a kidnapping. Nikki said this was legitimate work travel, and they could relax. Victoria was sorry, but it was a bad time. She had meetings and the kids. Nikki said that the meetings could be delegated, and Billy could watch the kids. Victoria said that Billy could barely look after himself. “Says who?,” Nikki challenged. Victoria noted that Nikki and Victor said that all the time. Nikki pointed out that, just yesterday, Victoria said Billy always put the kids first, and he wanted to see them more often that the custody agreement allowed. He took them ice skating. Victoria said ice skating was just a couple hours – if she asked Billy to take the kids for a couple days, things could get complicated. Nikki asked why – because of his new relationship with Billy. Victoria said no. Victor walked in just as Victoria said she wanted time to think about this.
Victoria changed the subject, but Nikki told Victor about the Hawaiian trip to close the deal. He thought that was wonderful. Victoria felt like she was being dragged there under false pretenses. Victor said he took vacations as CEO sometimes. Victoria felt ganged up on. Nikki called Billy and told him about the business trip and asked if he could take the kids. He said he’d love to, and he asked if Victoria was okay with it.
Back at ChanceComm, Billy told Lily that he had more proof Victoria didn’t miss him – she was traveling 4,000 miles away, just to get away from him. Lily said unless Victoria came up with an excuse for Billy to join her, maybe he was right. He said he was staying with the kids. Lily regretted bringing it up earlier. He wanted to go skating, but she said no, because they had work to do. She told him that the audience for the relationship advice podcast was growing. He thought they should do an episode on romantic spontaneity. Like dressing up warm and drinking hot chocolate. She realized he wasn’t going to let this go, so she decided they’d go ice skating so he could get it out of his system and they could get some work done.
Billy and Lily went to Society after skating. She thought he’d been reckless, and he thought she’d been graceful on the ice. He was thinking that now was a good time for her to get to know his children and vice versa. She asked if he was sure. He’d given it a lot of thought and it felt like the right time. She wanted to get to know the kids, but she thought it had to be slowly and carefully. She suggested they just call her Daddy’s friend from work. He agreed, but he said she was more to him. He said a year ago, he was a mess – he didn’t think he’d be happy again and he didn’t think he deserved to be, but then she came around. He didn’t want to pressure her, but he wanted her to know he was falling in love with her.
Billy hoped Lily would say something. She thought his message should be relayed to the relationship advice podcaster. He asked if she wanted him to do a podcast on falling in love with her. She didn’t. She thought they should tell the podcaster to give more weight to the slow rewarding build, rather than the fast easy answer. She said it was wonderful when someone told you how much you meant to them.
Victoria was alone in her office. Nikki texted a picture of Hawaii. After looking at it, Victoria noticed a picture of herself with Billy and the kids. She smiled.
Traci ran into Mariah at Crimson Lights. Mariah mentioned how much she loved working at Jabot. Traci thanked Mariah for putting together the gathering for Abby the other day.
Abby and Chance were at the doctor’s office after her procedure. The doctor said that Abby’s uterus had extensive scarring because of the miscarriage, and it couldn’t be fixed. The good news was that Abby’s ovaries were fine, but due to the uterine damage, there was no place for implantation to occur. Abby said this meant she couldn’t have a baby. They went home. Chance knew that the doctor said Abby might be sore afterward. He offered to get her something to eat or drink – whatever she needed. She cried that the only thing she needed was something she could never have. He promised they’d figure it out. She said she wasn’t even trying the last time she got pregnant, and now that they wanted to start a family, it was impossible. She wondered if she was being punished, and he said absolutely not. He was adamant that they would have a family.
Chance texted Traci, so she came over. Traci knew Ashley was sad she couldn’t be there. Abby said she called her mother and could barely get the words out. Traci said Ashley had a scientific mindset, so she’d gather all the facts. She wouldn’t be surprised if she called Abby’s doctor. Abby said Ashley already offered to do that. Traci said Ashley would hypothesize and try to find a solution, which Traci loved, but sometimes a person needed someone to tell you that you were loved and everything would be alright. Abby said that was where Traci came in. Traci wished there were magic words she could say to make it okay. She promised Abby and Chance would get through this. Abby cried about how unfair it was.
Traci and Chance suggested getting a second opinion. Abby snapped that she’d been with that doctor for years, and she trusted her. Traci said okay. Abby apologized for her tone, and Traci said it was fine. She said Abby was surrounded by love and they all wanted to hold her up for awhile. Abby didn’t expect everyone dropping everything to her. Traci said they wanted to help. Traci told Abby to let her sweet husband be strong for her. Abby said he’d been perfect, but she was too much of a wreck for it to register. Abby cried that there was nothing she could do to get pregnant. Traci said there were so many options.
Mariah came over to check on Abby. She also started to talk about options modern medicine afforded Abby. Abby couldn’t think of that now – she was focused on not being able to carry a baby. Traci said Abby didn’t have to make a decision now. Abby was tired, so the guests left. Abby she’d tried to prepare herself by expecting the worst, but this hurt more than she ever could’ve imagine. Chance wished there was something he could do or say. Abby had friends who’d been through this, and Victoria had trouble conceiving, but she had this idea of how her family would grow, and it was hard to let that image go.
Abby admitted she made this all about her when she knew Chance had a hard day too. He said he was more concerned about her. He also pictured the perfect family, but he just saw different ways to get there. She considered getting a second opinion, but she was scared to get her hopes up. He said she didn’t have to decide anything right now. He suggested she go rest. He said he could hold her while she slept. She wanted him to hold her while she was awake. She said when it was time to make decisions, the only option on the table was to have a child with him.
Mariah went to Sharon’s. She said a friend got bad news. She wanted to help, but she wasn’t sure how, and she didn’t want to be annoying or overbearing in her support. Sharon said she always thought heartfelt advice would be well-received, but even with her training as a therapist, it was was hard to tell when you were caring too much.
At Crimson Lights, Nikki thanked Victor for helping with Victoria. He thought Nikki’s suggestion that Victoria get away for awhile was a good one. He brought up the way Victoria fought them on it, and he said she was so obstinate sometimes. Nikki pointedly said she wondered where Victoria got it from. She asked if Chelsea was making progress, and he said no. It was hard when your child reached out for help and you couldn’t give it. She said he was doing all he could. Ashley texted Victor about Abby.
