Jill was at Society when Cane called, from Vegas, with an update on the search for Chance. He explained that Adam didn’t tell him anything about Chance, then he let her know that Phyllis was with Adam, for some reason. Jill told Cane to use Phyllis. Phyllis texted Cane, and when he didn’t respond, she showed up at his hotel suite and told him not to play hard to get. When Cane’s back was turned, he smiled, pleased that she’d played into his hand by showing up. She helped herself to the wet bar and offered him a drink too, (he declined), then she fished for details on the search for Chance. He noted that she’d refused to help him when he was looking for Adam, but she expected answers now. She stated that they were both holding back in Genoa City, but they could help each other out if they were honest with each other. Earlier, he’d said Chance dropped a bomb on the family, and she wanted to know what it was. He asked why she cared, and she said Chance was friends with Adam, and a friend of Adam was a friend of hers. Cane told Phyllis that she could tell him why she was really interested in Chance, or she could leave.

Phyllis explained that she thought Adam made a mistake leaving Genoa City, and she wanted him to come back because he was helping her with some unsettled debts. She wanted leverage to make Adam go back home, and since he was being evasive about Chance, she thought she could use their association to do it. Cane got a text, and he glanced at it and told Phyllis it was Jill. He asked Phyllis to leave. She protested, because she thought Cane owed her information after she’d confided in him. She tried to convince him to let her help with the investigation, but he said he’d see her later. After she left, he read the text. It was supposedly from Chance. He said he was willing to meet, but it was too risky to do so in public. He’d contact Cane again with a time and location, and Cane was to arrive alone.

Elena came home and found Devon researching Amanda online. She noted that he’d been in that same spot all day, but he clarified that he’d gotten up to make coffee. He hadn’t found anything yet, but he was trying to figure out if she was playing him or if someone was using her. Elena suggested Devon hire someone to do the research so he wouldn’t have to be so involved, but he said he was already involved. He’d also learned that the statute of limitations on contesting a will ran out years ago. She figured he could ignore Amanda and her claims then, but he said he couldn’t. He found something saying Amanda started practicing law in 2011, but there were no pictures of her online, no bio, no internet presence whatsoever. If Elena didn’t know Devon better, she’d think he was stalking Amanda. He said he was doing opposition research. He was having Tucker’s assistant flown in to answer some questions. She noted that all work and no play made him a dull boyfriend. He didn’t mean to be, but he wanted to get to the bottom of this. She didn’t understand, since the statute of limitations was up. If Katherine wanted her money to go somewhere else, he felt morally obligated to honor that. She asked if he was really willing to give up his money. He wasn’t sure, and he needed definitive answers before he decided what to do. She made him promise he’d go outside and have a break. He wouldn’t go now, but he said he would later. After Elena left, Jill came to update Devon on Cane’s progress in Vegas. She acknowledged that he didn’t trust Cane. Devon couldn’t be sure that Cane, who had a checkered past, would be honest with them if he found out that the new will was fake and that he wasn’t the real heir to the bulk of Katherine’s fortune. He thought it was pretty damned naive of Jill to think Cane would just walk away from all that money. Jill was sympathetic to Devon’s plight, but she was having a hard time not being offended by his attitude.

Devon testily asked if he was supposed to be happy Cane was running around Vegas trying to prove he was the rightful heir to Katherine’s fortune. Jill was taken aback by the tone of this conversation, because she’d only come to give him an update. He countered that she’d actually come to try to reassure him about Cane. She understood why he didn’t trust Cane – what happened between him and Lily was regrettable. He asked which time she was referring to, since Cane did a lot to Lily. Jill didn’t want to get off track. She wanted to know what would happen if the new pages of the will were legitimate. “Now we’re getting to what this is about. You want to make sure there’s no hard feelings if Cane becomes a billionaire, because I think you have this all figured out, don’t you?” Devon accused. Jill said that if he was going to throw accusations around, he should start with his biological father, Tucker. Devon felt that Jill seemed quick to believe Amanda’s stories. Jill clarified that no matter which version of the will was accurate, she had no skin in the game. Devon knew that, but he said Cane did, and he asked why Jill didn’t tell Cane to back off. Jill snapped that she wasn’t doing this for Cane – she was doing it for Katherine. Devon implied that Jill was lying to herself, and she decided it was time to go. He asked her to wait, but it was too late. She told him that finding the truth didn’t have to be this acrimonious. She left the penthouse and found Amanda approaching Devon’s door. Jill wished Amanda luck.

Devon wondered if there was a sign on his door inviting people to show up unannounced. Amanda was curious if he’d located Chance. He snapped that she came to town, upended his world, and now she expected him to locate her client. She wasn’t there to fight. She thought finding Chance was the key to everything because he had answers to everyone’s questions. Devon had a feeling that she thought they were both getting played, and he wanted her to admit it. Amanda intended to protect her client’s interest to the best of her ability, and that wouldn’t change unless new information came to light. He said said he could tell from the look in her eyes that she was wondering what the hell she’d gotten herself into. She insisted that he had no idea what she was thinking. She said she’d appreciate a call if he located Chance, then she left.

Cane called Jill and let her know about the text from Chance. He hoped that Devon didn’t blame the messenger once they got answers. Jill mentioned that her visit with Devon didn’t go well, but she understood Devon having a bad reaction to finding out he may be living a lie. Cane said it wasn’t Devon’s fault. Jill agreed, but she felt it was important for Katherine’s wishes to be respected, and she hoped that Devon would agree. Cane went to an undisclosed location that looked like the exterior of a warehouse or garage. As he looked around for Chance, someone knocked him unconscious and dragged him away by his legs.

Victor went home and found Nate talking with Nikki. She’d invited the doctor over because she had questions about Victor’s last exam. Victor hoped Nikki didn’t think he’d pressured Nate into clearing him to go back to work. Nate said he’d never let a patient pressure him into endangering their health. Victor revealed that he’d left the company in Victoria’s hands. Nate noted that it was an end of an era. Victor said it was the beginning of a new one – Victoria was a very capable young woman and a formidable CEO. Nikki approved of Victor’s decision. Nate stated that although he’d signed off on Victor returning to work, a relaxed schedule was better for his long term health. Nikki thanked Nate and said she had it from here. He left Nikki wanted Victor to be alone with her, so that she could show him how proud shew was of him for making the best decision. She also wanted to know how he really felt about retirement. He loathed the idea. He said Newman wasn’t just a workplace, it was the embodiment of his ambitions and dreams. He had no qualms about handing it over to Victoria, but he’d thought he’d leave that building feet-first. The idea of the company he built from the ground up moving forward without him bothered him. He wondered what he’d do with all the free time he’d have now. Nikki thought about taking a step back from her job in the real estate division, so that she could spend more time with Victor. He asked if the job brought her joy, and when she said yes, he asked her to stay. She recalled him saying businessmen weren’t afraid of change, because it was an opportunity. He said he’d change as long as she was by his side. Victor called the PR team and had them prepare a statement. He regretted ever thinking about giving the company to Adam. Nikki said that Victor never had to ask “what if” where Adam was concerned. Later, Nikki walked in with apples for the horses and asked Victor to go to the stables with her. He said he would in a minute. After she was gone, he called someone and told them to stop tailing Adam and to just let him go, because he wouldn’t be back.

Elena met with Nate at Crimson Lights and told him that Devon had been home all day scouring the internet about Amanda. Nate understood why Devon would want to know who he was going up against. Elena felt that Devon was letting everything else go and focusing on the one thing that he couldn’t change. She wasn’t sure if Devon was fixated because because Tucker might have broken the law or if it was because Amanda looked so much like Hilary. Nate sensed that Amanda’s look was a source of discomfort for Elena, and he assured her that Devon was crazy about her. He mused that it was easy to sanctify the dead and only think about the good parts of a person, but Hilary wasn’t perfect, and she didn’t always bring out the best in Devon. He assured Elena that Devon knew she brought out the best in him, and she had nothing to worry about. She asked what he thought was getting under Devon’s skin. He thought her theory about Tucker was right. He suggested that Devon feared that Tucker arranged for him to get the money because he didn’t think Devon could become a success on his own. She wondered how to help Devon. He said that was what made her a good doctor, but she also needed to know when to let go. Elena asked how she was supposed to know when to do that, and Nate said that since no one knew which will was legitimate, all they could do was wait. Elena asked Nate what he thought Devon should do. Nate decided not to share his opinion, since it was none of his business. Elena said she won the lottery when she met Devon, and not because of his money. She noted that he’d been homeless and in and out of foster care, then he was given all this money by his adoring grandmother, and he was paying it forward, like Neil wanted. She was worried about him and about all the people that he could be helping with the money. She thought he needed answers, even if it wasn’t the one he wanted, because not knowing made him feel stuck. Nate said it’d all be settled soon, one way or the other.

On the Crimson Lights patio, Billy let Victoria know his appointment went well. She was happy to hear that, but she looked sad, and he thought that things went poorly at Newman. Her face broke into a smile, and she revealed that she was the the permanent CEO of Newman. He thought she should be dancing on the table, but she admitted she felt guilty. When Victor pulled out the chair and handed it to her, it was like watching part of him disappear. Billy said that Victor wasn’t going anywhere, and he’d be around Victoria all the time. He thought she should revel in being chosen to run the company. Victoria gave Billy some credit for this, since he’d encouraged her and believed in her. He said she didn’t need it, but she told him that she’d always need him.

Victoria sensed that Billy wasn’t happy. He made a bunch of supportive comments to assure her he was, but she thought there was something more. He admitted that when he first arrived and saw that she looked sad, he’d been a bit excited because he thought things didn’t go her way at Newman and he’d be able to convince her to come work with him at Jabot. He stated that some dreams weren’t meant to be. She told him to come with her.

Victoria took Billy to Chancellor Park, and he didn’t understand why until he spotted Johnny and Katie playing on the playground. Victoria had Hannah bring them. As they watched their children play, Victoria said they weren’t partners at work, but they were partners on a much more important project – life. This was their legacy, and that partnership was enough for her. She hoped it was enough for him too. They kissed, and he apologized for ruining her big day, then he suggested they go play with their junior partners.

Billy and Victoria got a hotel room at The Grand Phoenix. As they sipped champagne, he stated that they should do this “team building” more often. She noted that it’d be hard to find the time, with him running Jabot and her running Newman, but he said it was important that they do. They resolved to make it part of their mission statement – no kids, or board meetings, just them, and their wildest fantasies. They began to kiss.
