Nick was at home getting ready for the hearing. Chelsea marveled at how he’d been so calm with Christian earlier, like it was any other morning. He hoped it would be and that he’d retain custody, since he thought it was clear that Adam was unfit.

Michael was at Crimson Lights. Adam called to make sure things were still on track. Michael grudgingly said they were and that he was waiting for Nick. Adam wished he could be there when Nick got the bad news. The call ended. Adam turned to Kevin, who was at the penthouse, and asked if they were good to go. Kevin was following Adam’s instructions to blow up Nick’s life, but he wasn’t happy about it. Adam wasn’t sorry, because he’d warned Nick what would happen if he underestimated him.

Nick met Michael at Crimson Lights expecting to prepare for the hearing, but Michael explained that he’d made a donation to a charity connected to the judge’s wife. If Adam’s lawyer found out, she’d insist that Michael withdraw, so Michael thought that it was best if he stepped down before the trial. Nick wouldn’t hear of it, but Michael said that if Nick won the custody hearing and Michael’s donation came out, Nick could be charged with bribery. Nick ordered Michael to cancel the donation or get him a different judge. Michael’s hands were tied – he planned to ask for a continuance, so Nick could find other representation, and he’d called Brittany to see if she could take over. Nick assumed Adam got to Michael. Michael acted offended, but Nick was convinced he was right. Michael tried to put a positive spin on it by saying Nick could use the continuance to build a stronger case. Lauren walked in, and she saw Nick storming out the door. Lauren joined Michael, and he fed her the cover story he’d just told to Nick. She didn’t think it was like Michael to let an oversight like a conflict of interest fall through the cracks. He said the judge’s wife used her maiden name, and he didn’t make the connection before. Lauren felt that Michael was being cavalier about this when Nick could lose his son. While explaining himself, Michael called his decision a choice, and Lauren reminded him that he initially said he had no choice but to withdraw. He snapped that he already felt bad enough without her giving him a hard time. She said she was just trying to understand, and he told her that a little support would be nice, then he got up and left. Kevin arrived, and when he saw Lauren, he tried to avoid being noticed, but she saw him and waved him over. She told him that Michael had been on edge since Kevin returned to town, and she demanded to know if Kevin got him mixed up in something. Lauren suspected that Kevin was involved in something with Adam, because Michael just left Nick high and dry. Kevin asserted that Michael would never help the scum who killed Delia. Lauren stated that Michael would do anything to help Kevin, and she implored him to tell her what was going on. Maybe she could help. She was convinced he and Michael were hiding something, and she was scared. He told her to have faith in her husband, because if anything was going on, Michael could handle it. He left.

Nick went home and told Chelsea at that Adam got to Michael somehow, and he needed to find another lawyer. Brittany wasn’t available. Chelsea suggested that Nick ask to postpone the trial, but he didn’t want to do that to Christian. He said that Christian could tell something was going on because Christian had a bodyguard, a social worker came by to question him, and Adam kept popping up and scaring him. Nick wanted to get things settled so Christian could feel safe. Chelsea argued that he could lose Christian if he walked into the hearing without a lawyer. He felt that Adam’s case was weak because he only had a biological connection and an illegally obtained video of Nick impersonating JT. She still advised asking for time to find a lawyer, but he argued that this would also be giving Adam more time. He couldn’t risk it. He needed the case settled today.

Nikki and Victor were on a mountain getaway that he had whisked her away on this morning. They returned to their hotel room after having a wonderful time. She was surprised he decided to leave on the day of the hearing, because Nick would be devastated if he lost Christian. Victor was sure Nick would win. Victor enjoyed the time off work. Nikki mentioned that Jack missed competing against Victor. He replied that Jabot had never been real competition for Newman, and she smiled because he sounded like his old self. She suggested they go to London or Paris, and she said she’d check in with Nate to see when they could travel. He revealed that he was thinking of suspending the treatment for awhile. At first he claimed he was doing it so they could travel, but then he admitted he didn’t want the treatment because of the side effects. He believed that life wasn’t worth living if he lost his independence, and he felt that it was already happening. She understood that dealing with the symptoms was a sacrifice he was making for the family. He confided that he couldn’t stand it – he couldn’t think straight, and he worried that he’d forget things like their anniversary. She assured him that she didn’t need romantic trips or gifts. She stated that undergoing the treatment was the best gift he could give her to show her that he cared. She needed him to stay and fight because she wasn’t ready to face life without him. He promised he wasn’t going anywhere, and they hugged. Victor booked another mini vacation to somewhere near Genoa City, and he ordered tickets to Nikki’s favorite symphony. She felt it was the best of both worlds – they could get away while staying close to home. He felt that he’d been blind not to realize she enjoyed taking little trips, and he said they should’ve been doing this all along. She noted that he’d traveled the world for work, and he said none of that compared to seeing traveling with the love of his life.

Adam met with his lawyer, Brenda, at Society. She warned him that winning the case wouldn’t be easy, but Adam was confident that he’d get what he wanted. Brenda and Adam discussed how he’d explain his time in Vegas, and his decision not to pursue custody as soon as he got his memory back. He planned to say that once his memory returned, he stayed away out of concern for the boy and that it took awhile before he felt a connection to his son. Phyllis walked up and mocked the notion of Adam feeling connected to the child he abandoned, and she urged him to drop the case. Adam didn’t appreciate Phyllis barging into the conversation. Adam told Brenda to keep her phone on during the trial. She told him that it was against the rules, but he wasn’t fazed.

Michael went to Adam’s and sarcastically asked if Adam wanted him to do anything else, like burn down an orphanage. Michael didn’t like being forced to betray a friend. Adam noted that Michael volunteered, and Michael clarified that he stepped up to protect his brother. Adam thought being selfless was a waste of energy, and he stated that Michael didn’t have a problem stabbing Nick in the back at the last custody battle for Christian. Michael explained that he never thought Victor would get permanent custody. Michael refused to do Adam’s bidding anymore. Adam said the next assignment would benefit them both, and he asked how District Attorney Baldwin sounded. Michael didn’t want to be DA again, but he asked how Adam knew he’d win. Adam said they could discuss the strategy later.

Nick, Adam and his lawyer, Brenda arrived at the courtroom. Judge Sanders was prepared to grant Nick a continuance so he could find another lawyer, but Nick wanted to proceed without counsel. Judge Sanders warned Nick that he couldn’t change his mind once the hearing started. Nick understood. Nick explained that he didn’t realize he wasn’t Christian’s biological father for a couple of years because Adam altered the paternity test results. Nick was the only father Christian had ever known, and he felt that Adam gave up his rights when he changed the results. The judge asked why Nick didn’t have Adam relinquish his rights, and Nick explained that Adam was presumed dead at the time. Sanders asked about the time Victor had custody. Nick stated that there were some questions about the person he was living with at the time, but end the end, he was granted custody of Christian. Nick submitted written statements about the sort of father he was, two of which were written by Summer and Noah. He stated that he had a loving home, and Christian was thriving, while police records would show that Adam was living a life full of criminal and vindictive behavior. He believed he was the best father to Christian, and he thought that Adam must agree, otherwise he never would’ve changed the DNA results. Nick said that the results didn’t change how he felt about Christian, and while Christian wasn’t able to properly express it, he knew Nick was his daddy. Adam announced that he’d present his own case since Nick had been forced to. He said that it was false to say he had no interest in raising his son – he’d switched the paternity results in an ill advised decision, out of concern for the child. He explained that Nick had been romantically involved with Christian’s mother at the time, and Adam thought she and Nick could give Christian a good home, so Adam had put aside his feelings for Christian’s sake. He stated that Sage died, and Nick had been involved with a number of women lately, which wasn’t a healthy environment for a toddler. Nick’s temper flared. Judge Sanders asked if Adam planned to stay celibate if he won. Adam admitted he didn’t, so Sanders said lets move on.

Phyllis ran into Lauren at Crimson Lights. Lauren revealed that Michael withdrew from Nick’s case, and she didn’t think he gave her the real reason for his decision. Lauren didn’t understand why Phyllis would work for Adam – she’d done many questionable things, but work for Satan? Lauren asked if Adam had confided in Phyllis about the case. Phyllis said not since she told him to drop it. Phyllis said she wasn’t Satan, just Satan-adjacent. She’d always believed Christian should stay with Nick, and she believed he’d win. Lauren was sure Michael would never forgive himself if Nick lost.

Michael went to Society and ordered a double scotch. Kevin happened to be there, and he seemed dejected. Michael asked if Kevin was doing something else for Adam. Kevin told him not to ask questions he didn’t want the answer to. Michael snapped that he put himself on the line for Kevin. Kevin countered that no one asked him to. Kevin noted that this pattern of him screwing up and Michael stepping in had gone all the way back to - “Terrible Tom,” Michael finished. Kevin said Michael couldn’t save him back then, but Kevin didn’t blame Michael, just like he didn’t blame Michael for the situation with Adam. According to Michael, Adam promised to leave Kevin alone if Michael did what he wanted. Kevin wasn’t surprised Adam lied. Kevin did something on his laptop. Michael looked at the laptop and shot Kevin a horrified look. Kevin told Michael not to look at him that way, because he had no choice, but to leak the video. This was the final straw for Michael, and he told Kevin to pack his bags and go home to Chloe. Michael said Adam wouldn’t go after Kevin or his family, because if he did, it’d cost him his arrangement with Michael. Michael was sure that he was more valuable to Adam than Kevin was, no offense to Kevin. Kevin didn’t think he or Michael would ever get out of Spider’s web until they found a way to take him out. Michael warned Kevin not to joke like that. Kevin wasn’t joking.

Back at the trial, Adam produced evidence from his doctor that proved he had amnesia. He said if he’d known who he was, he would’ve contacted his children. He wanted to make up for being out of their lives. Brenda’s phone got a notification. She watched something on her phone, then she showed it to the judge, who was shocked. Adam smirked at Nick. The video of Nick removing the JT disguise had been leaked, and it was getting picked up by news outlets. There was a news story that stating that Nick terrorized his father. Brenda noted that JT tried to kill Victor twice. “How could you do that to our father?,” Adam asked, feigning shock.
