At Hamilton-Winters Group (HWG), Devon fires Lily over her role in Hilary’s death. Lily begs him to reconsider. They’re family, and she loves him. Neil steps in and, as a full partner in the company, assures Lily that she will always have place there. He scolds Devon for running from his problems. Lily, seeing how upset Devon is, agrees to leave.

At Jabot, Phyllis congratulates Billy on his boutique idea. Billy finds that odd because moments before he unveiled it, Phyllis was conspiring against him. Phyllis says she was tricked into attending Ashley and Kyle’s meeting. They were the true co-conspirators. But Lauren is Phyllis’s boss, and Billy’s idea is bad for Fenmore’s, so Phyllis was professionally bound to side with Lauren. To be honest, Phyllis is worried about Billy. It’s as though he’s replaced gambling with risky business. No risk, no reward is his motto.

On the athletic club rooftop, Summer defends Billy to Kyle, but Kyle knows what drives her. She’s hot for her mom’s boyfriend. Kyle rolls his eyes at the mention of Billy’s idea for Jabot stores . . . and that name---Jaboutique. She insists Billy knows his target demo, which Summer happens to be a member of. She told Billy about Phyllis's meeting with Billy’s detractors, so the seed is planted. Tonight he’ll find out the ugly truth about Phyllis and Jack.

At Jabot: Billy notices that Phyllis hasn’t been herself lately. She’s stressed and overly cautious. She admits it and cites Hilary’s death as part of the reason. She again voices her fear about his failing and playing into the hands of his enemies, but he won’t hear of it. He did his research and made a decision. Now he needs only to sit back and wait for the payoff. It’s the same approach he took to catching Phyllis, and what a payoff! She can’t resist his charm and promises him a night of celebration.

Meanwhile, on the club roof, Kyle sneers at Summer’s plan, but Summer’s mind is made up. Her mom and Jack are meant for each other. Kyle reminds her she has no proof that Jack was the man Phyllis hooked up with. Summer promises to deliver it, in the form of a repeat performance. She’ll set the stage, nature will take its course, and Kyle will record it for posterity. As a platonic friend, he agrees to do it.

Nate runs into Cane at Crimson Lights and offers his sympathy about Lily. He heard she confessed to causing the accident and now faces the consequences. Cane defends his lies of omission to protect her. Nate understands his motives but disagrees with his methods. Now Cane must show no fear and be Lily’s rock. Now and always Cane says.

At HWG, Neil insists Lily stay on, but she decides she’d rather spend whatever free time she may have left with her kids. Devon thinks that’s a great idea.

Kyle finds Jack working at a table in the club dining room and takes a seat. You know what they say about all work and no play . . . Kyle remembers when Jack had an active social life, one that included women. Jack cuts him off. There was a special lady, but she wasn’t interested. Kyle is sure he’ll find the right one someday. He wanders off to text Summer. Good luck trying to lure Jack to the apartment tonight. Summer replies: Watch and learn.

Phyllis comes home and chats briefly with Summer about tonight’s plans. Billy is working late. Speaking of Billy, it isn't Summer’s job to keep Billy informed. It’s Phyllis’s. Summer gets the point and makes for the door. Offhand, she asks whether Phyllis has spoken to Jack lately. Poor guy seems down. He could use someone to lean on. Gosh, Summer wishes she could help. . . . Maybe Phyllis can, but she should keep Summer’s name out of it. She doesn’t want Jack to think she’s talking behind his back. Phyllis thanks her for the info.

Summer makes a beeline for the club and gives Jack a similar story. Things are tense at home. Mom and Billy and hanging by a thread. She needs someone to vent to since Hilary died. Summer wishes she could help. Say . . . maybe Jack can. Jack holds up his hands in surrender. Phyllis knows how he feels about her with Billy, so she’s not likely to talk to him. Summer persists. She thinks her mom is just saving face. In fact, Summer was sure Phyllis and Jack were set to give it another go. Clearly, Jack wishes it were so. Summer urges him to go with his gut---at least be available in her time of need. He guarantees he will do that.

At home, Neil thinks out loud. Devon is in a downward spiral. What can he do? Nate is willing to do whatever Neil deems necessary. They cross the hall to save Devon from himself.

Phyllis lets Jack into her apartment. No hard feelings about their disagreement about Billy. Kyle, on the Crimson Lights patio, watches the “action” on his laptop. He texts Summer: No sparks.

At that moment, Summer enters Billy’s office. She’s working late so she grabbed some takeout---enough for two. Billy knows there’s more to it, and she confesses.

At Devon’s: Neil and Nate have been in Devon’s position. Nate was in pain after losing his girlfriend and should have reached out for help but didn’t. Neil turned to the bottle after Dru died. Devon is becoming the angry young man he was when Neil first met him, and it doesn’t have to be that way. Hilary wouldn’t want it. Devon says that Neil and Nate have misinterpreted the source of his anger. It’s not grief but a desire for justice.

Cane goes to Lily at HWG and says Devon has no right to punish her. Lily doesn’t blame Devon for being angry. Anyone in his shoes would feel the same way, even Cane. What kills her is that this incident could tear the family apart forever.

At the apartment: In Hilary’s absence, Jack volunteers to be Phyllis’s sounding board. Anytime she wants to fire off a bitchy text, he’s her guy. She thanks him and says the same goes for him. She changes the subject to his search for his father. It had been so important to him. He agrees, but he won’t torment Dina with any more questions about it. He has a country club ledger full of names. Jack’s father’s may be among them. In the meantime, he has Dark Horse to keep him busy. On the Crimson Lights patio, Kyle nearly dozes off.

In Billy’s office, Summer steps up her efforts. She proposes a toast to his future success and says she’s not just buttering up the boss. She really likes his boutique idea---and the name. She sees that he’s twisted himself into knots, working too many hours in a poorly designed office chair. She does a little shiatsu massage on his shoulders and then ambushes him with a kiss. He is stunned.

At HWG, Lily gets a sobering call from Michael. She’s to be arraigned tomorrow: two counts of vehicular homicide. Twenty years. She sobs on Cane’s shoulder.

At Phyllis’s: She’s glad Jack has something to channel his energy into. Jack praises Nick’s ambition and suggests Phyllis get in on the action. She could escape the toxic atmosphere at Jabot, and he’s sure Nick would hire her in a heartbeat. She demurs. It wouldn’t be a good idea. Jack senses distress but trusts her judgment. He says he’s there for her if she needs him. They nearly kiss, but Phyllis recoils. She’s committed to Billy. Jack leaves in disgrace.

In Billy’s office, Summer tries to get him to say what he really thinks. She knows he enjoyed that kiss. Billy will admit no such thing and he won’t tell Phyllis about it, not to protect Summer but to protect Phyllis’s relationship with her daughter. He orders her out. She goes but doesn’t seem discouraged.
