Victor is brought to Nikki, who waits in Paul’s office. She’s sorry for doubting his innocence. Not so fast, Paul says. The gun could have been planted at Chelsea’s. Victor and Nikki are outraged. Michael to the rescue: He'll arrange bail.

At the penthouse, Chelsea also has doubts—about Adam (Gabriel). Did he know about the hidden gun? He begs her trust him and disarms her by wishing her a happy anniversary.

Billy approaches Neil at the athletic club, hat in hand. Last time they met, Billy assaulted Neil. Neil is ready to let bygones be bygones; however, he’s not ready to help Billy et al. overthrow Gabriel at Newman-Abbott. Billy should get in touch when the dust settles. Then Neil might accept his old job—for the right price.

Victoria and Nick go over company stats in Victor’s office and are forced to admit that Gabe knows his stuff. In the middle of their conversation, Nick gets a call alerting him to Avery’s confession. He and Victoria watch it on the Internet.

Avery faces Phyllis at the hospital. Joe did not rape her, but that didn’t stop her from confronting him and firing a gun in his presence (not at him). Phyllis is supportive of her sister until she learns that Avery intends to leave town. Elsewhere in the building, Ashley and newly reinstated Dr. Ben Rayburn find out the hard way that Abby was in an automobile accident. Her client staggers in with cuts and bruises, cursing Abby and her outrageous behavior. Moments later, Abby arrives via wheelchair. She crows about the deal she struck, stands, and immediately collapses in Ben’s arms.

Chelsea has good memories of their wedding day on the farm, but there’s no going back. Adam disagrees. He knows she loves him. The conversation goes no further because Gabriel (Adam) is summoned by Paul for questioning.

Abby’s memory of events is fuzzy. She and Guy had drinks, and then. . . . Ashley scolds her for unprofessional conduct and hurries off to do damage control. Ben remains with Abby and asks for the truth.

Nikki and Victor make up while they wait in Paul’s office. Upon his release, Victor offers to take Nikki to dinner. Before they can get out the door, though, they run into Adam and Chelsea. Accusations and insults are exchanged. Dinner plans are postponed indefinitely when Victor learns about Abby’s accident. He wants to go to her immediately.

Paul asks Gabriel’s cooperation by submitting to fingerprinting. Gabriel protests, almost too much, and accuses Victor of foul play. Chelsea suggests they suspend questioning until Gabriel secures a lawyer.

Avery is adamant. She needs time away and will leave tomorrow. First she needs to tie up some loose ends. Michael appears and assumes that he is one of them. Although he’s not thrilled with her rash public confession, he laments losing his law partner, if only temporarily.

Abby denies getting “frisky” with the warehouse client. She wouldn’t be unfaithful to Ben. Soon Abby’s hospital room is teeming with Newmans. Nick and Victoria arrive first then Victor. Abby minimizes her injuries and tells anyone who will listen that she successfully negotiated a contract. Victor is proud of all of his children. Together they’ll oust Gabriel and reclaim their company.

At the athletic club, Nikki tells Neil the whole sordid story. She regrets judging Victor so harshly and wonders whether she was looking for a scapegoat for her drinking. Neil doesn’t think so; in fact, the saga is far from over as far as he’s concerned. There’s no proof that Victor isn’t guilty. Nikki flashes back to Victor’s involvement in a prior stolen fingerprint incident and realizes she’s been played again. Victor had been planning Jack’s shooting for months. As she moves to deliver this new bit of information to Paul, Victoria stops her and pleads with her not to stab Dad in the back. Too late. Paul enters the club and Nikki sings. Victoria flounces out. Neil is proud of Nikki

In the park, Avery and Nick have a heart-to-heart. She bemoans her faulty moral compass. In fact, it was on this site that she left Nick at the altar. He forgives her and begs her not to go. What’s next? No plans, no promises.

By the time Chelsea and Adam return to Victor’s old office, she’s in a panic, which he interprets as concern for him. She denies it; she’s worried about the fallout for Billy, Connor, and Sage’s unborn child, not to mention she herself could be named an accessory to Adam’s crimes. No matter what she says, Adam is confident in her love.

Billy is Abby’s next visitor. After some good-natured ribbing from him, she reveals her big contract negotiation. Not only is he unimpressed; he’s horrified. In the corridor, Ashley apologizes to Ben for implying Abby’s infidelity. She wants the two of them to be happy. All well and good, Ben says, except he can’t seem to get Abby’s mom off his mind.

Tearfully, Chelsea admits her love for Adam, but the situation is untenable. She’s right. The beginning of the end has come. Victor enters the office and orders Gabriel from his chair.
