Gabriel calls a meeting in Victor’s office, which he’s claimed for himself. Billy, Neil, Ashley, and Chelsea arrive. All, save Chelsea, are hostile to begin with. They’re sure to hate Gabriel’s plans to shake up the company.

Michael meets Victoria and Abby at the Underground to talk about Victor’s defense strategy. Nick stands by and shoots down all ideas. Michael vows to do his best, regardless.

At the police station, Victor tries unsuccessfully to convince Nikki that he shot Jack in self-defense. Nikki doesn’t buy it; he wonders how she can betray him.

Paul confronts Dylan at Crimson Lights. He’s not to meddle in Avery’s rape investigation. Dylan is just as worked up as Paul is and refuses to sit idle while Joe is on the loose.

Avery enters the athletic club, the injuries on her face still visible. Lily is at first happy to see her. She thanks Avery for counseling her about Joe but then learns that Avery told Paul about Lily’s infidelity with Joe. She had to. Of course, Lily can think only about how it will affect her.

Joe happens upon Sharon in the park, innocently says hello, and is threatened with a can of mace. Sharon heard about his attack on Avery.

Neil is demoted from CFO. Gabriel will assume those duties, and Neil will be reassigned. No thanks. Neil quits. The others think even Victor would disapprove.

Michael needs a witness. Victoria admits lying for her dad. He confessed to her, so she’ll be the witness. Michael laughs. No way. He’ll figure out something. After he leaves, Victoria begs Nick’s help. He knows Gabriel and his ways, having been friends with him in school. When that doesn’t work, she tries to shame Nick into defending dear old Dad. Nick owes him. She storms out. Abby is less emotional but agrees with her sister and follows her.

Joe denies Avery’s allegations and tells Sharon that he didn’t violate his restraining order. The truth is Avery wants revenge on Joe and to reclaim Dylan from Sharon, so Joe and Sharon are the victims.

Lily is contrite when Avery tells her that she was raped. Although she didn’t see the perpetrator’s face, she knows he is Joe. In fact, she confronted Joe earlier that night to defend Lily and Cane’s marriage. She guarantees that Lily’s secret will remain exactly that.

Sharon refuses to believe that Avery, the crusader for the underdog, could have such intentions. Yes, she’s always been a straight arrow, but Joe insists she snapped.

After Neil advises the others to do as he’s done, he leaves. They have no such intentions. Billy and Ashley, in particular, mean to defend their dad’s legacy. Furthermore, Billy questions Gabriel’s blood relation. It’s true, Ashley says. The DNA results confirm it. Gabriel gloats. Isn’t Billy going to welcome him to the family?

Perhaps for the first time ever, Victor admits a lack of control, which forced him to shoot. Nikki has had it with his grudges and secrecy. She can’t tolerate it anymore and walks out.

There’s no witness to the rape and no physical evidence linking Joe to it. If Dylan can’t accept that and help pursue other avenues, then he should stay out of Paul business.

Back at the station, Michael consults with Victor. Learning that the weapon Victor used is hidden in the stable at the ranch, Michael goes to retrieve it. Nick arrives and confronts his dad with a question: How could he shoot Jack?

Victoria and Abby join the meeting. Gabriel decides it’s time to reveal the new chain of command. Victoria will no longer be COO, but she’ll be glad to know that another Newman will be—Abby. Everyone is stunned. She’s inexperienced. Abby readily admits it, but after listening to more talk about her inability to perform, she decides she’d like the challenge.

Joe continues to chip away at Sharon’s confidence. Avery lied about Joe. Dylan can verify it.

Victor scoffs. What would he gain from Jack’s death? It makes no sense. Now, time is of the essence. The Newman family is in danger, and Victor needs Nick’s help. He wants Nick to return to the company and keep an eye on Gabriel.

Neil heads to Nikki’s suite. He needs a friend. She’s happy to help. Upon hearing that he was forced out of Newman-Abbott, she asks whether she can she get him something. Neil gets her drift. She’s been drinking. Damn straight. She’s been under plenty of stress lately.

Lily flashes back to her night with Joe just as he walks into the club. She’s disgusted by him and she fears him. He won’t tell Cane about the two of them, will he? Joe won’t breathe a word, but she shouldn’t trust Avery.

Avery finds Dylan at the coffeehouse. Her face falls when he tells her there’s no evidence against Joe. Avery is doomed. She knows how these cases go. Dylan holds her as she cries. Sharon watches from the doorway.

Victoria follows Abby from the office. Gabriel wastes no time insulting Billy, causing him to leave in a huff, which leaves Chelsea. With a half-smile, she chides him for taking such pleasure in his authority. For the record, she thinks firing Neil was a mistake. Gabriel had no choice. Neil would have uncovered some nasty secrets. He asks Chelsea to help Abby in her new position. Before she can reply, Nick arrives and she leaves them to talk.

Neil attempts to wrest the vodka bottle from Nikki’s hands. She becomes dizzy and loses consciousness. Neil calls for an ambulance then, realizing that Nikki isn’t breathing, he attempts CPR.

In the club foyer, Abby tells Ashley that she’s accepting the job for a couple of reasons: to prove herself and to be the savior of both of her families—the Newmans and the Abbotts.

In the park, Billy suggests that he and Victoria team up against Gabriel. She considers it.

At the police station, Paul is prepared to offer Victor a deal—and a good one, in Michael’s opinion—but he’s not interested.

Why does Gabriel hate Nick’s dad? Because Jack’s life hangs in the balance, thanks to Victor. Nick makes it clear that he's taken his dad’s side and intends to fight Gabriel. Gabriel shakes his head. It’s finally happened. Nick has turned into the man he most disrespects: his own father.
