Cane meets Michael at the Underground and begs his pardon for kissing Lauren. No apology necessary; Michael is glad he did. Lauren deserves to be happy. Dont worry. He wont tell Lily about the kiss.
At the athletic club, Lily isnt quite so understanding. She confronts Lauren, telling her that she knows all and that Cane corroborated it. Lauren breathes a sigh of relief that its out in the open. It was only a little kiss. Kiss? Apparently Lily didnt know about that, and she doubts that it was nothing. Lauren warns her not to push Cane away, but Lilys too angry to listen to common sense and orders Lauren not to tell Cane about their chat.
At the club door, Sharon tells Joe and Phyllis that Avery is safe. She was last spotted in Dylans arms. Joe thinks Phyllis owes him an apology, but its not forthcoming. She slaps him instead.
Avery evades Dylans questions at Crimson Lights. What about the blood at her apartment? Did she intend to frame Joe for her murder? Absolutely not. Its not her nature. She had an accident and cut herself. Dylan isnt buying it, but no matter, Avery intends to disappear in any case. He begs her not to let Joe off the hook. If shell stay, Dylan will help her fight through acceptable channels such as the police and a restraining order.
Sharon has no further details and wonders why Phyllis would presume to strike Joe. Phyllis is certain of Joes guilt and threatens him before leaving. Joe is disappointed in Sharon. Why didnt she fight for her man? Bad girls always take what they want. That was the old Sharon. Now, if hell excuse her, shes headed home to Dylan. Well see, Joe says. A spy exits after the two of them leave.
Cane refuses to be manipulated into a physical relationship with Lauren. He loves his wife and values his family. Interesting. From where Michael sits, things look pretty shaky. Cane becomes flustered and leaves.
Phyllis has a semi-joyful reunion with Avery at the coffeehouse. How could Avery be so selfish to leave town without saying anything to her sister and her niece? Go ahead and slink away. After Phyllis bolts, Dylan again offers his assistance. This time Avery accepts. Joe hobbles in as they embrace; the spy from the athletic club follows. Dylan accuses Joe of domestic violence. Joe counters that Avery seduced him. Mockingly, she says. Things become a little heated and the spy, actually one of Genoa Citys finest, approaches. Dylan shrugs it off as Joes attempt to goad him. It turns out Avery is the one Joe wants arrested.
Lily is surprised to see Cane at the club. She sends a direct message about their presumed mutual trust and he knows hes busted. She resents him for making her look foolish by reassuring her about his platonic relationship with Lauren. Over his protests, she declares nothing innocent about it and leaves. At that moment, Lauren approaches Cane with good news about the boutique. He asks point-blank why she told Lily about the kiss.
Sharon gets home, fetches a bottle of red and two glasses, and sits down on the sofa to wait for Dylan.
At the police station, Paul tries to sort out another case. He questions Joe, but after witnessing the exchange among Joe and Avery and Dylan in the outer office, he decides its a war of words. Joe tells Paul to find proof. Thats his job. He also insinuates that should Paul find in Dylans favor, it could appear an attempt to protect his son.
Lily finds Cane and Lauren together in the dining room and gets worked up. Cane tells her to calm herself and she storms off.
Dylan hands Paul an envelope of evidence, and Avery reveals that Joe was abusive during their marriage. It looks like restraining orders all around: Averys against Joe, and Joes against Dylan. Joe cryptically tells Avery that shes no better than he and stalks out.
Michael is full of self-pity, but Phyllis calls him out. Hes a lucky guy to have his wife and son. Its not much of a marriage without sex. Hes arranging for Laurens happiness, at least, but there will be collateral damage.
Dylan apologizes for being late. Sharon isnt angry that he pursued Avery when he heard she was missing. In fact, shes glad to hear Avery is safe. Thats very big of her. Shes also prepared to accept his choice between her and Avery.
Phyllis takes Michaels advice. At Averys apartment, she shows compassion; however, Avery has decided not to run, after all, and shes sorry for lashing out at Phyllis for doubting Joe. When she reveals that Joe was violent during their marriage, Phyllis is determined to make him pay.
At the Underground, Lily drinks alone until Joe takes a seat at her table. She goes fishing: Does he think shes attractive? Carefully, he says yes. Last time he commented on her appearance, he nearly lost his head. Things have changed. He repeats it. She rises, thanks him for his kind words, and heads home to her kids.
Lauren is afraid to hear what Michael told Cane. Michael appears behind her and Cane decides to let him speak for himself. Michael dismisses it as nothing. Lauren scolds him for the mess hes made of the Ashby's marriage and is surprised to hear him express sympathy for Lily.
Dylan will always care for Avery, but hes committed to Sharon. She suspected as much and is thrilled. He makes her feel safe. Now what can she do for him? All he needs is her.
Paul sits in his office and sifts through photos of Averys injuries. Meanwhile, Avery rejects Phylliss plans of revenge against Joe and says a restraining order will do.
