Victor sits in a confessional and issues instructions to an unseen person. Jack is to lose everything.

At home, Phyllis and Jack briefly discuss Summer’s troubles. Thank God for Kyle, who seems to be the only one who can comfort her, although Victor has stepped up too. Jack rolls his eyes. She reminds him that Victor is her lifeline as well.

Dylan promises Avery an evening of fun after he finishes work at the coffeehouse: bowling. Sounds great . . . but duty calls. Phyllis’s trial date has been set for tomorrow. She hurries to the Abbott home to break the news. Phyllis and Jack are stunned. Chris just lost her baby. She’s in no shape to try a case.

At the police station, Paul tries to persuade Chris, just released from the hospital, to go home to rest, but she’s driven to work on her case against Phyllis. Paul frets about her stress level for no reason. She’s no longer pregnant. Paul tries another tack. Phyllis isn’t Chris’s target; Nikki is. Chris doesn’t deny this but is determined to see someone suffer, and since Paul is protecting Nikki, it has to be Phyllis.

Lily runs into Devon at the club and tells him of Neil’s accident. Meanwhile, Neil is at the ranch, consumed with guilt. Nikki urges him to stick to their story or they’ll both wind up in jail.

Joe delivers what appear to be two pizza boxes to Crimson Lights. Dylan is less than thrilled to see him. He thought Joe was leaving Genoa City. Not so. A business opportunity turned up. Dylan demands that Joe give up on Avery. Joe merely asks that Dylan deliver the boxes to Avery, and he leaves.

Victor comes home to find Neil, reeking of alcohol, in his living room with Nikki. After Neil leaves, Victor grills Nikki about the reason for his visit. Nikki becomes defensive, especially when Victor gets close to the truth about what happened the night Chris was hit. He asks point-blank whether Neil is at fault. She stands her ground.

Avery plots her strategy to delay the trial, but Jack and Phyllis assure her that all is under control. Jack and Victor have teamed up to defend Phyllis. Jack has contacts over Chris’s head whom he’ll contact if necessary. Victor hasn’t divulged his “ace in the hole.” [Viewers are shown Kelly working at the club.]

If Nikki is guilty, Paul will see that she’s punished, even though she’s the mother of his son. He wants justice too. He lost his daughter and fears for his wife’s well-being. Still Chris refuses to go home. She dreads facing the baby’s things and the nursery. Paul comforts her and suggests they check into the club for a few days.

At the club bar, Lily fills in the details. Devon blames himself for setting events in motion that led to the accident. Lily doesn’t disagree but says Hilary is the root of the problem and hopes Devon no longer pines for her. Devon is committed to helping his dad, even though Neil isn’t likely to forgive him. Kelly interrupts. Devon is wanted upstairs. She sits next to Lily and tells her that Phyllis’s trial begins soon.

In the middle of Nikki and Victor’s argument, Jack calls, summoning Victor to the club for a powwow. Before Victor leaves, he announces that he’s had all the booze removed from the house.

Avery returns to Crimson Lights. She has no interest in any more of Joe’s memorabilia. Dylan is curious about the boxes’ contents, though, and pushes her to look inside. She opens one. It’s her wedding dress, which had been her grandmothers.

Lily marvels at Kelly’s calm demeanor. Jack accused her of being crazy, and that’s sure to come up in court. Kelly isn’t worried. Across the room, Jack becomes nervous when Victor refuses to reveal his ace but guarantees that Phyllis will walk.

Dylan is dismayed at Joe’s persistence, despite Avery’s assurances that he poses no threat. She compares her relationship with Joe to Dylan’s with Sharon. Ridiculous, Dylan says. Sure, Avery says facetiously, Sharon is incapable of breaking up a relationship. In any case, she has lots of work to do tonight and kisses him before leaving. Dylan consents to take the boxes home for her. Joe watches from distance.

Nikki phones Neil to warn him of Victor’s suspicions and to tell him that although she knows she can’t force him to accompany her to AA meetings, she’s on her way to one now, and he’s invited. At that moment, Neil downs a drink at the athletic club and orders another. Victor sidles up, orders a tequila, and tells Neil that he won’t allow Nikki to take the fall for something she didn’t do. Is there something Neil would like to tell him? Neil evades his question, bids Victor goodnight, and stumbles toward the door. Devon intercepts him and tries to help, but Neil isn’t receptive. Devon just wants to prevent another accident. Neil becomes agitated and confesses that he grabbed the wheel. He killed that innocent baby.

Chris sees Jack and Phyllis being seated for dinner and makes a beeline for their table. She taunts Phyllis and gloats over her star witness. Kelly? Phyllis guesses. Kelly appears and confirms it but says there won’t be a trial after she speaks her piece. Victor observes from across the room.
