The Y&R Update Wednesday 7/2/14

Leslie brings Austin to the park to meet Summer.

Jack summons Sharon to his office for a surprise party for Neil and Hilary.

Michael and Lauren talk in the hospital hallway about having to lie to Paul about Dylan’s condition. Inside the room, Kevin and Detective Harding visit and tease Paul about his basketball skills. Michael enters and notices that Paul is troubled. Why can’t he see Dylan? Is Michael keeping something from him?

Colin had a restless night. Jill finds him in the living room contemplating the necklace.

Neil and Hilary wake as Mr. and Mrs. Winters. What a difference—a good difference. She hardly knows how to conduct herself. Meanwhile, Devon, at the club, reads the wedding announcement and then shreds it.

Neil arrives at work and spoils Jack’s surprise. He’s touched that anyone think his marriage is worth celebrating. His kids don’t.

Hilary and Devon have an awkward meeting in the club dining room. She thanks him for not causing a scene at the ceremony and tells him they must forget the kiss and Devon’s declaration of love the night before the wedding. She hopes they can be friends eventually. She gets a call from Neil inviting her to the party and leaves. Devon is bitter. He pours himself a drink.

Colin can’t accept Jill’s necklace to pay off his debt. Why the epiphany? Because it’s a sign of Katherine’s love for Jill, and he can’t deprive her of that. Jill saunters over to the safe and produces the real necklace.

Paul continues to press Michael and Kevin for information about Dylan. They say only that he’s recovering too and has been ordered to stay put. Paul shakes his head. He can’t believe he has an adult son. So much lost time.

Summer fusses over Austin. She’s glad she was able to access her funds to pay his bail. Leslie paints a grim picture. She doesn’t have much to base Austin’s defense on. It would help if someone could vouch for him. Summer volunteers.

Jill tried to give Colin a fake? Does she realize how dangerous it would be for him to pass on a fake to his creditors? Jill coolly explains that it’s an exact replica that few people could detect. Her plan is to keep the original but report it stolen, and then collect the insurance money. This piques Colin’s interest. In fact, he’s turned on by it. They’re startled when Lauren lets herself in. She and Jill are to have a business meeting, so Colin excuses himself. From the hallway, he calls his associate and promises to deliver the item later today.

Hilary is overwhelmed by the party. Sparkling cider for all! Back at the club, Devon proceeds to get drunk. He calls Cane and Lily in Paris, ostensibly on a business matter. Cane answers and can tell immediately that Devon has been hitting the sauce. Devon tells him about his encounter with Hilary. Cane is concerned and advises Devon to avoid Hilary, she and Neil are man and wife now, and the booze. Devon says no worries and hangs up.

Sharon and Hilary talk privately over cake and cider. Sharon admits her surprise about the quickie wedding. Hilary reveals that Devon and Lily are having trouble accepting it, and she’s worried about how it’s affecting Neil. Sharon assures her that the kids will come around.

Jill is distracted during the meeting. Lauren orders her to spill it; she and Colin were behaving strangely when she arrived. Lauren interrupted an intimate moment is all. Lauren wonders. She thought it was odd that Jill wasn’t wearing her necklace. Jill changes the subject to Paul and Dylan and Nikki. Lives have been altered, no doubt, including that of the shooter.

Austin discourages Summer from going to bat for him any more than she has. Summer insists. Leslie thinks it’s a bad idea. It would likely hurt Austin’s case. She leaves to get to work. Austin is grateful to Summer, but she must face the fact that he could be sent to prison for a long time, maybe for good. She whimpers that she loves him and will never leave him.

Paul is annoyed with Michael and Kevin’s stalling. Harding bursts in with news: the kid who shot the chief is out on bail.

Jack tells the newlyweds that a small wedding entitles them to a big honeymoon. Sharon agrees and suggests a few exotic locations. Hilary snuggles up to Neil and says she has all she needs right here. Devon crashes the party. Neil is thrilled to see him until he detects the smell of alcohol. Devon denies drinking this morning; it’s from last night. He came to say something he should have said yesterday. Hilary holds her breath.

Colin returns and suggests the girls call it day. Jill agrees and hustles Lauren from the house. She scolds Colin for being so jittery. It occurred to him that if they report the necklace stolen, she won’t be able to wear it in public. She knows. Then she holds out the two identical pieces. He’s to choose the one to trade. He panics. He can’t tell them apart. Never fear. Jill can and does.

Harding gets all worked up about that punk Austin and the punishment he’s sure to get. Michael points out that things could go the other way. Paul calmly dismisses Harding. Michael and Kevin marvel at his demeanor. His near-death experience and discovering his son have given him new perspective.

Austin protests. She can’t throw away her life on him. He’s going to prison, and that’s that. She says not necessarily.

Devon wanted to congratulate the happy couple and present them a gift—a beautiful picture frame. He thought they could put their wedding photo in it and add it to the family collection. Neil is touched. Hilary acknowledges it by saying it certainly was unexpected. Devon came today to demonstrate his acceptance and to join the celebration. While Sharon and Hilary fetch him a piece of cake, Sharon remarks that Hilary looked nervous before Devon spoke. Across the room, Jack and Neil praise Devon. Neil assures him he’ll find someone special too. Devon says he has work to do and leaves abruptly. As he does, Leslie arrives. Neil got married already? They agree there are no hard feelings between them and wish each other happiness with their new spouses. Speaking of Hilary . . . where is she? Unbeknownst to Neil, she’s in the elevator with Devon. He leaves the party in search of her. Leslie makes her way to Jack and tells him that Summer paid Austin’s bail. He’s exasperated.
