Mediation room: Abby flipped out because Nick, Victor, and Adam weren't there yet, and Leslie and Michael were both absorbed in their own paperwork. Abby assumed that everyone else knew something she and Victoria didn't that would hurt the case. Victoria calmed her down.
Michael stepped out in the hall, and called Heather, who was outside District Attorney's office. He to get Victor to the hearing right now. Heather interrupted the meeting between Victor and Spencer. Victor wasn't ready to leave, and told her to tell Michael he'd come as soon as possible. Heather wanted to act as Victor's attorney, and sit in on the meeting. Victor thought it was kind, but unnecessary. Heather told him she'd be in the hallway. Spencer closed the door, and Victor resumed the meeting. He told Spencer that he'd gone hiking on the volcano in Hawaii, and heard Sharon, and Skye arguing. Victor said it was too dark to see anything, but he could tell from the argument that, Skye, and Sharon must have tussled over the camera. Victor told Spencer that he heard Sharon begging Skye to hold on, Skye saying she couldn't, then Sharon screaming in horror. Spencer asked why Victor was in Hawaii, and Victor said he was on vacation. Spencer brought up the rumors that Victor helped Skye fake her death to frame Adam, but Victor said Spencer's remark sounded more like a statement, than a question, so he didn't attempt to explain himself. Spencer wondered why Victor was just coming forward now. Victor said he was doing it so his granddaughter's mother wouldn't be unfairly sent to prison. Victor felt nothing more needed to be said, and rose to leave. Spencer wasn't finished questioning him, but Victor told him to have a nice day, and walked out. Heather told Victor that his driver was there to take him to the hearing. Spencer watched Victor leave, then told Heather to let their “friend” (Chance) know that the jury selection was taking longer than expected. Heather said she wasn't his messenger, but Spencer said he thought she'd want to be the one to tell Chance.
Tackhouse: Sharon had composed herself, and apologized for being out of sorts when she arrived. She told Nick that she'd never seen Adam be so out of control, and that not only did he get drunk the night before, he was drunk again, and even angrier today. Nick was indifferent, and said that the lawsuit was taking its toll on everyone. Sharon found Nick's calm response odd, and figured that he knew more than he was letting on. Nick got a call from Victoria, and told Sharon he had to go to the hearing. Sharon wanted answers first, and asked why Nick hadn't even hoped Adam would hurt Victor's case by showing up drunk, and angry for the hearing. Sharon decided to go too, figuring Adam might be there. Nick asked if she wanted to help Adam, or hit him, but Sharon just wanted to find him.
Chance's room: Chance was alone, doing physical therapy when Chloe arrived. Chance pulled her into a hug, and told her he was glad to see her. Chloe was caught off guard, and seemed uncomfortable by it. Chance went to the window, and peered through the curtains. He talked about missing the different scents of the outdoors, then started to talk about his life in California, and set about trying to describe the smell of wet pavement. Chloe was distracted by her own issues, and in response, started talking about the snags in her relationship with Kevin; first Jana, and now Angelo. She was also upset because Billy was “trying to take my daughter because he doesn't like my boyfriend.” Chance was not very sympathetic, and snapped that maybe her life wouldn't “suck so much if she'd take a step back and smell the pavement.”
Chance sat up with a bit of effort due to the pain from his surgery, when Chloe came back. She brought him some pie as a peace offering. “For being a selfish jerk?” Chance asked, although he was no longer upset. Chloe said yes, although she wouldn't have put it that way. She commented on the way he'd changed since witness protection, and Chance told her that once you lose your identity, and loved ones, you often give up on holding on to anything that made you, you. Chloe asked how he was going to handle going back, and Chance said he'd survive, but he was worried about how his mother, and grandmother would take the news that he wasn't back in town for good. Chloe was shocked Nina, and Jill didn’t know, and said that he made it very clear to her, and Heather. Chance felt like he didn't have many options when it came to witness protection. Chloe remarked that it reminded her of Ronan, and said that she didn't know which brother was the bigger jerk. As she started to leave, Chance stopped her, and told her not to settle for a life based on lies. He told her it didn't matter if she chose Kevin or not, because it was better to have no life at all, than to live a fake one.
Crimson Lights: Neil was working on his laptop, when Sofia walked in, and invited herself to his table. She asked Neil if he put in a good word for her with Tucker because of her business skills, or because they slept together. Neil asked if she really wanted to discuss what happened. “We made love Neil” Sofia softly said. Neil rationalized it by saying they were both hurting, and reached out to each other as a way to ease the pain. Sofia smiled, and told Neil he made her feel better. Neil said that she did, too, but that it could never happen again. Sofia agreed. Neil said she got her job back on her own merits, because she was smart, and passionate, and put her heart into everything she did. Sofia smiled as he praised her. Malcolm walked up, and was pleased to see them together, because he had something to say to both of them. He presented Sofia with a bouquet that was just like the one she was to have carried on their wedding day, which she loved. Malcolm called himself an idiot for letting things get so out of hand between them, and said he wanted to be the only man in her life; he proposed to her again. Neil, who seemed nervous, and uncomfortable, tried to excuse himself, but Malcolm told him that he was a part of this, because he was the one who helped him see the error of his ways. Malcolm asked Neil to be his best man, if Sofia said yes. Malcolm went over to Sofia, and got down on one knee. Sofia glanced at Neil, then hugged Malcolm, and said “yes.” Malcolm, and Sofia hugged, while Sofia, and Neil stared at each other, both looking guilty. Malcolm had a job to go to, and kissed Sofia's cheek, then said goodbye to Neil, and left. Sofia said she had work, too, and tried to leave. Neil stopped her, and told her he was glad that the wedding was back on, and handed her the bouquet that she almost forgot. They said their goodbyes, and parted ways.
Mediation waiting room: Michael spotted Abby alone, and told her that her TV show idea could turn into a hit. He said she appeared to be a young girl, but the way she filed the lawsuit, and turned down Victor's offers showed that she was much stronger than she looked, and that it would make for interesting viewing. Abby wasn't buying it, and told him that he didn't care about her, or her show. Michael said she was wrong; he cared about her, Nick, and Victoria, and always would, no matter the outcome of the lawsuit. His phone rang, and he excused himself.
Nick and Sharon arrived. Sharon asked Michael if he found Adam. Michael glanced up from texting long enough to say he had other things on his mind. Victor, and Heather walked in. Everyone, save Sharon, Heather, and Michael went into the hearing. Michael hissed “Find Adam!” at Heather before joining the others who were part of the arbitration. Sharon left a message for Adam asking him to call her. Heather said she wanted to see Adam too, but she was glad that it wasn't for the same reason Sharon was. Sharon was snide, and said that her relationship with Adam was different than Heather's relationship with him. Heather believed Adam used the same lines on both of them, and asked if Adam had ever told her that she was the only person besides his mother who understood him. Sharon shifted uncomfortably, because of the familiar words. Heather said that Adam could pull vulnerable women into his web, then pounce when they least expected it. Heather didn't understand why Sharon was focused on Adam when she was so close to being free from the murder charges. Sharon was confused, and Heather told her that Victor had gone to Spencer's office, and given a statement to clear her. Sharon realized that that was what Victor meant when he told her in the park that it would be okay. Heather was doubtful that Victor was being entirely selfless, and was sure that he found a way to benefit from telling the truth. Heather told Sharon to tell Michael that she couldn't find Adam, and that he probably didn't want to be found.
Arbitration: The judge had questions for Adam, and Michael told him that Heather was going to find him. Judge Phelps wanted to address the large settlement that the plaintiffs wanted. Michael thought it was excessive, and pointed out that under the plaintiffs' argument, anyone who worked for Newman would be entitled to a settlement. Leslie responded that Victoria, and Nick were both CEOs at Newman for a time, and were promised a share in the profits if they helped the company grow. Victor denied that they did help the company grow, which angered Nick. The judge told him that this was Victor's chance to speak. Victor told everyone that his oldest children had been eager to learn, and somewhat competent, but that they didn't contribute substantially to the growth of Newman , and that he often regretted giving them so much power.. Victoria, and Nick responded with looks of disdain as he spoke. Victor flashed back to having a disagreement with Nick over Newman in the past over Sharon coming to Newman. Victor remembered asking Nick what happened to their father/son relationship, and Nick responding that he was just doing what Victor would do if the tables were turned. Victor told Nick that he'd made a mistake making him CEO.
When it was Nick's turn, he reminded Victor that he often left them to run the company during his crises, and a flashback to one such occasion was shown. Victor told Nick that while they'd had their differences, he felt close to him, now, and that he and Victoria were the best people to run Newman Enterprises while he was gone. In the present, Victoria added that Victor always praised their efforts, and remembered a time that Victor congratulated her on a job well done with a client. Victor responded that their mistakes cost them more than they ever contributed. He remembered the time that Victoria got into hot water with the S.E.C., and he backed up her desire to fight back. After the flashback, Victoria pointed out that the only reason she had troubles with the SEC is because she was covering up the fact that he wasn't healthy enough to run Newman. Victor snapped that she mishandled it, and that he always had to take charge again to clean up the mess she, and Nick made. Victoria said that Victor's real problem wasn't the way they ran the company, but the way they ran their personal lives. She brought up the time she and Victor disagreed over whether to give a job to Neil, or Brad. Nick shared a memory of his own about Victor restricting his responsibilities at Newman, because Nick wanted to pursue other things.
Victor was adamant that he did what he had to do to stop them from destroying the company. Nick leapt to his feet, and said that they helped build the company. Victor countered that they were only employees. Victoria jumped up, and said that Victor had no right to take everything away from them. Victor stuck to his story that it was just business, and he didn't care what they did in their personal lives. Victoria brought up Victor getting her arrested on her wedding day. Victor shouted that marrying Billy was a mistake. Victoria thought that proved her point, and said that he was taking away what belonged to them, because he disapproved of the choices they made in life. “It's mine, and don't you ever forget it” Victor snapped. Nick told him that they couldn't forget it, because he'd been telling them that all their lives. Nick recalled one of the times that Victor was furious that Jack, and Tucker wanted a piece of Newman, and went off about it. In the present, Victor told the judge that he was the one who built building Newman from the ground up, and said he'd rather see it destroyed, “than see my ungrateful brats lay a finger on a penny of it.” The judge called a break to wait for Adam.
During the break, Victor approached the forlorn Abby, and asked what happened to the woman who was wanted her own TV show. He'd been embarrassed by her removing her clothing in public, but he admired her determination to make a name for herself. Abby wasn't sure what changed. In a matter of fact tone, Victor stated that while she might blame Victoria, Jack, and Nick, she was the one who started it, but that she shouldn't worry, because he was going to finish it. Victor kissed the top of her head, and walked away, as Victoria, and Nick looked on.
The hearing resumed, and the judge said that it was clear that Adam wasn't coming. Victor asked to speak, and told everyone that he nurtured Victoria, and Nicholas as employees, and compensated them generously, and as much as they deserved. He told them that Victoria, and Nick were attacking the company that they claimed to love, and that he should be the one to decide how much compensation they deserved. The judge called a short recess. Michael walked over to speak privately with Leslie. Nick, Victoria, and Abby decided to go get some food. Abby lingered and stared at Victor from behind, then left. The door opened again, and Victor turned to see Neil walk in, carrying a file.
Chance's room: Heather knocked, then let herself in. She asked if she could come in. “You already are” Chance said, sarcastically. Heather told him that it was taking longer than expected to seat a jury. Chance was disgusted, and told Heather to tell Spencer that if things dragged on much longer, they'd lose their star witness. Heather spat that she was doing Chance a favor by relaying the message. Chance continued to be sarcastic, and Heather got fed up, and him to go to hell. Chance responded that he was already there. Heather held Chance responsible for the position he was in, and railed at him for promising to come back to her the day he faked his death. Chance admitted lying about that. Heather accused him of lying about everything, and didn't believe him, when he denied it. “I hate you!” she screamed, then raised her clenched fists to pound on his chest. Chance grabbed her wrists, then kissed her passionately.
Crimson Lights: Chloe walked in, and was disappointed that “Duckie” (Kevin) wasn't there.
Sharon came home, and was shocked to see that all of Adam's belongings were gone. She left him a voice mail, asking for answers. She looked at the angel statue she'd given him, and while staring at the angel statue, told him she didn't believe that he didn't love her. After hanging up, Heather's words about Victor getting something in exchange for clearing her rang in her ears. Sharon concluded that Victor must have forced Adam to leave town in exchange for clearing her. She cursed Victor's name.
