Claire sits at home alone until Marlena comes home. Claire asks if there's any update on John. Marlena tells her that Belle is trying to get him out of custody so hopefully, he will be home tonight.

Belle joins John in the interrogation room at the police station. Belle tells him that she wasn't able to speak to Melinda Trask. John responds that he doesn't care because he deserves to be prosecuted for murder.

Abe joins Shawn in the police commissioner's office. Shawn assumes he's here to discuss the Jan Spears case. Abe says he came to talk to whoever is in charge but first they need to sort out exactly who that is..

Rafe assures Roman that he and his family are safe. Roman asks what happened. Rafe explains that once he got everyone secured in Mexico, he went after the men who were threatening them and the ones that are left will be behind bars for a very long time. Roman asks if the family is okay. Rafe confirms they are safe and that his mom is getting ready for Christmas as they speak. Rafe adds that Eduardo is with her while Dario is doing whatever he does and he doesn't know where. Rafe tells Roman that he and Gabi only had one place they wanted to be, so they came home to Salem to stay. Rafe wishes he had never gone, especially knowing what Hope went through. Rafe says he needs to see Hope and asks where she is. Roman clarifies that he didn't say Hope wasn't at home, she left Salem and they don't know where she's gone or when she will be back.

Gabi goes to the garage where she finds Jake in bed with Kate. Gabi says to excuse her for the interruption but questions what in the holy hell is going on here, shocking Jake and Kate.

Rafe questions Roman as to why Hope left town. Roman explains that Hope never accepted that Ciara died in the explosion so she just left a letter for Jennifer. Roman thinks Hope would've stayed if she knew Rafe was coming back for her. Rafe feels there was no chance if Hope made up her mind. Rafe repeats that he should've been there.

Claire worries to Marlena about if there's nothing Belle can do and if John goes to prison. Marlena assures they are so far away from that and encourages her not to worry. Claire declares that if John goes to prison, it will all be her fault.

Belle tells John not to talk like that but John repeats that he deserves to go to prison for murder. Belle argues that the circumstances could prevent him from being charged at all but more importantly, Jan is not dead.

Shawn apologizes to Abe if he made himself too comfortable in the commissioner's office. Abe says it's alright and he knows things have been chaotic for the last few months so he appreciates him pitching in. Shawn knows a more permanent solution needs to be found soon. Abe says the public need to know who is running the department as it's been unclear since Rafe left.

Roman encourages Rafe to go easy on himself since he didn't know about Ciara. Rafe blames himself for not being there and screwing up so many times with Hope. Roman urges him to focus on what was good between them rather than what went wrong. Roman adds that Hope told him that Rafe was a great support to her, just as he was to Ciara. Rafe still can't believe Ciara is gone and questions why the hell this had to happen. Rafe understands why Hope cannot accept Ciara's death.

Jake gets up and gets dressed, saying he had no idea Gabi was home. Gabi brings up that Gwen told her he jumps from one woman to the next but she didn't think it would be this fast or with Kate. Jake questions what right Gabi has to say anything about any of this since he left town and left him in the dust. Jake asks why she cares who he sleeps with and what the hell she's doing home anyway.

Marlena assures that Claire is not to blame and if anyone is, it's Jan Spears. Claire feels if she didn't let Jan get close to her, none of this would've happened since everyone told her not to trust Jan. Marlena understands that Jan manipulated her and made her think she was her ally. Marlena comments that some people are just susceptible to trusting people that shouldn't be trusted. Marlena tells her that John wouldn't want her to blame herself and they are so proud of her. Marlena decides she is going to the police station to try to see John. Claire asks if she can come but Marlena says no. Marlena adds that with a lot of luck, John may be home tonight. Claire prays that is true and sends her love. Claire hugs her as Marlena then exits. Charlie then shows up at the door so Claire invites him in. Charlie mentions trying to call her but it was going to voicemail so he wanted to make sure that she was okay. Claire admits that she's really not as she's so worried about John.

Belle tells John that they both know he wasn't in his right mind when he attacked Jan. John swears he thought Jan killed Belle. Belle argues that Jan is a sick woman and should've never been released from Shady Pines so she will never understand why that happened or why Sami made that happen.

Abe tells Shawn that he understands Hope's need to take time off to grieve but unfortunately, the commissioner position is too important to be left open indefinitely. Abe asks if he's heard from Hope. Shawn says they talk from time to time but mostly text and she never tells him where she's at because she's afraid that he'll come to try to bring her home. Abe is glad they are in touch and prays that Hope finds what she's looking for. Shawn says that would be Ciara being alive and he's afraid Hope is never going to find that.

Rafe tells Roman that all the time he was away, he was missing Hope but he didn't know that Ciara was even in danger. Rafe states that a lot has changed since then but the one thing that hasn't changed is his love and respect for Hope. Rafe prays that Hope can find peace and some way to live without her daughter.

Gabi stops Kate and complains that she just sleeps with whoever she wants. Gabi says that Kate was like a mom to her. Kate argues that Gabi has no right to barge in spewing all this jealous venom when she has no idea what's going on. Gabi argues that she knows exactly what's going on, saying that Jake was missing her and got so desperate that he turned to Kate. Kate stops Gabi and says this is pathetic. Kate tries to leave but Jake stops her and asks her to stay. Jake questions how dare Gabi talk to Kate like that. Jake brings up that Gabi went to Mexico to take care of her mother and before she left, she told him that she was just using him to worm her way in to DiMera. Jake then questions why Gabi is acting all hurt now and going after Kate when she doesn't give a damn about him and never did. Gabi then reveals that was all a lie which Jake questions.

Abe hopes in time that Hope comes back to Salem and returns to active duty. Shawn responds that he wants that too. Abe says in the meantime, the Salem Police Department needs someone in charge. Shawn agrees that he will have to at least appoint an acting commissioner so Abe asks Shawn what he says to the job.

Belle tells John that he wouldn't be here facing criminal charges if Sami hadn't brought Jan back to town. Marlena walks in and questions Belle blaming Sami for all of this. Belle apologizes as she didn't mean for her to hear that. Marlena says it's okay as she doesn't have to protect her since she knows Sami helped get a very dangerous woman back to Salem with no care at all for the consequences. John says he can't criticize someone for not weighing the consequences. Belle argues that it's not the same. John argues that when he choked Jan, all he cared about was making her pay, consequences be damned.

Charlie asks Claire if they are pressing charges against John. Claire responds that she's not sure but it looks likely. Charlie calls it so unfair since Jan told John that his daughter was dead so he doesn't blame him for losing it. Charlie says he just wanted to make sure Claire was doing okay which she calls really nice of him. Charlie decides to get going but Claire stops him and asks if he wants to talk about their kiss.

Jake questions Gabi about everything being a lie. Gabi confirms that her mother was never sick. Kate questions why the hell she said she was then. Gabi explains that it was a cover story as Eduardo got in to some trouble with bad people so she and Rafe had no choice but to go into hiding. Jake asks why she didn't just tell him. Gabi argues that she wanted to but she couldn't for their safety. Jake says that's why she told him that she was visiting her mother but questions why she told him that she was using him. Gabi talks about how Jake kept saying he wanted to visit her and make it work so she had to make sure there was no doubt their relationship was over as it was the only way to make sure he didn't get hurt. Gabi says that the threat was gone and Rafe took care of the men that were after them so the minute she realized her family was safe, she came here to see Jake. Gabi thought Jake would be happy that she was back and guesses she never imagined he would be in bed with great grandma Kate.

Belle explains to Marlena and John that Melinda is out of the office so no official charges have been filed and since the courts are closed, she can't get John out on bail tonight. John thanks her for everything. Belle says he can thank her when they bring him home.

Claire questions Charlie not mentioning the kiss. Charlie admits he didn't know what to say and that he felt really weird about it. Charlie feels he clearly read the signals wrong and apologizes since Claire was emotional about her parents and grandparents. Claire stops him and says he has nothing to apologize for as she was really glad that he kissed her.

Shawn tells Abe that he's flattered but he and Belle are going to have to go back to Hong Kong at some point so he doesn't want to take the job and then end up having to leave. Abe says he's sorry to hear that. Shawn says they have a life in Hong Kong even though they love it in Salem and it's their home with family so hopefully someday they will be here permanently. Shawn wishes Abe luck in his search. Abe thanks him and says he will need luck finding another immensely qualified candidate. Belle then walks in and says she was about to call Abe to see if he could pull some strings for the holidays and help get John out of jail tonight. Abe wishes he could but says the courts are closed though John should be up first on the docket in the morning. Abe says he's sorry but he's glad Shawn and Belle are in one piece after yesterday's events. Shawn hugs Belle and comments that things would have been much different if Jan had her way.

Rafe complains that Hope went through the worst possible thing in losing a child again and he wasn't there for her. Roman advises him to go easy on himself as he had no choice but to leave Salem and Hope knew that. Rafe wonders if he would've come back sooner then he could've gone with Hope to help her find answers and closure. Roman suggests maybe he still can. Rafe says that's if he can find her. Roman notes that he's a hell of a detective so it shouldn't be difficult. Rafe worries that Hope doesn't want to be found but agrees that he needs to find her to let her know that he's back and that he loves her. Rafe says he's here for her and will help her find answers.

Kate tells Gabi that she and Jake get along fine and had some laughs but there are absolutely no feelings between them at all. Jake tells Kate to speak for herself which she questions. Jake doesn't know how Kate feels about him but he's not going to let her say that he doesn't have feelings for her, because he does.

Claire tells Charlie that she knows they got off to a weird start as she wasn't sure she was ready to start a new relationship. Charlie gets that relationships can complicate someone's life. Claire says whenever she's dated someone, she lost herself in the process. Claire admits that she's really scared of becoming that obsessive person again and she's scared of getting hurt. Charlie understands and admits he's scared too.

Kate tells Jake that she had no idea that he had feelings for her. Jake says now she does. Jake tells Gabi that he's sorry as he doesn't want her to think what they had didn't mean anything to him, because it did. Gabi tells him not to try to make her feel better and says she shouldn't even be here, she should be in Arizona with her daughter. Jake thought Arianna was in Mexico. Gabi admits that was a lie too since it wasn't safe for her to be there so she is with Will and Sonny. Jake questions if she's not coming back. Gabi says she thought about it but it would create custody issues with Will and Sonny. Gabi then reveals she thought about asking Jake to move to Arizona with her. Gabi declares this is much more simple and thanks Jake and Kate for making things easier for her.

Charlie tells Claire that he was afraid of getting hurt too as he's made mistakes and has had his heart broken but he hopes that trend is over because of her. Claire questions him not being scared off by her history of mental illness or the crazy wedding. Charlie says being with her was the best. Claire asks if they are trying this then. Charlie says he's up for it if she is.

Marlena tells John that she hates this as he doesn't deserve to be locked up when he's still recovering from his brain aneurysm so surely Belle can make the district attorney understand that. John responds that if not, he could be locked up for the rest of his life.

Belle finishes a call and tells Shawn that John has no choice but to spend another night in jail. Belle says their wedding night turned out to be a disaster and the worst part is they never got married so they are going to have to fix that. Shawn jokes with her that he's already married to Jan now as they hug.

Gabi tells Jake and Kate that she will leave and let them get back to what they were doing. Gabi tells Jake it wasn't nice to see him. Kate stops her and informs Gabi that Chad doesn't know anything about this. Kate asks if keeping it that way will be a problem. Gabi responds that she won't stop Kate from sleeping with Chad's enemy behind his back. Gabi then exits.

Belle still can't believe Jan made Shawn go through that ceremony. Shawn points out that he never kissed the bride so once John is done with this whole mess, maybe he will be able to kiss the real bride. Belle tells him he doesn't have to wait as they kiss.

Marlena wants John to stop blaming himself for this and tells him how Claire is already blaming herself for what Jan did. John hates how Jan took advantage of Claire and suggests Marlena go home to keep Claire company. Marlena informs him that there is no need as she saw Charlie coming as she was leaving. Marlena thinks Charlie is sweet and really cares about Claire. Marlena says that may be the bright spot in all this darkness. John is just glad that his bright spot is with him now as he kisses Marlena.

Claire tells Charlie that they are officially doing this. Claire says after the past few weeks, she never thought she would say this but she's actually feeling hopeful. Charlie is sorry that he has to get going since he has work to do before tomorrow. Charlie says he will text her when he gets home. Charlie stops and asks if they could try that kiss one more time before he goes. Claire agrees and they kiss.

Kate tells Jake that must have been hard since she knows he cared for Gabi a lot. Jake admits he does but it wasn't hard because of Kate. Jake calls Kate smart, funny, and sexy. Jake adds that Kate understands him and that means a lot. Kate agrees and likes that they aren't just using each other. Jake tells her that he meant what he said as he really does care about her.

Gabi joins Rafe outside and asks if he saw Hope. Rafe says no but that's a long story. Gabi wants to hear it but Rafe is not ready to share. Rafe asks if she saw Jake. Gabi confirms that she did so Rafe asks how it went. Gabi doesn't think they have a future together which Rafe questions. Gabi doesn't want to talk about it and says it's for the best. Gabi says she's decided to go to Arizona to be with Arianna. Rafe questions her leaving town. Gabi asks him not to make it harder than it has to be. Gabi says she will miss Rafe but he can visit all the time. Rafe understands that she needs Arianna. Gabi declares that her place is with her daughter but promises that Salem has not seen the last of her...
