Days of Our Lives Update Wednesday 10/21/20

Chad and Abigail finish having sex in their bedroom. Chad gets up and sees that the power is still out. Abigail jokes about generating their own electricity and wants Chad to come back to bed. Chad says he has to go check on something downstairs and will be back in one minute so he exits.

Dr. Rolf sneaks in to the living room from the DiMera Tunnels and talks to the portrait of Stefano. Rolf remarks that he's looking forward to once again meeting Stefano in the flesh.

Ben prepares to leave his room when Clyde shows up at his door, surprising Ben. Clyde asks if something is wrong because he doesn't look too happy to see him.

Marlena prepares to leave her home when Orpheus suddenly appears in the room and asks if she's going somewhere. Orpheus says he's sorry if he startled her but she should be more careful because you never know what dangers lurk in the darkness.

Chad goes to the living room and looks through drawers for a flashlight but turns around and is surprised to see Dr. Rolf holding a candle.

Clyde asks Ben if he was heading out somewhere. Ben claims he was just going for a walk. Clyde questions him going for a walk in the middle of the night during a blackout. Ben guesses Clyde just busted out of Statesville prison. Clyde says he did all the hard work. Ben calls it a convenient time for a prison break. Clyde then informs him that he did not plan the escape.

Orpheus bets Marlena didn't expect to see him again. Marlena warns him that John is in the next room so he should leave while he still can. Orpheus responds that he's not too worried about John. Orpheus says he keeps tabs on his favorite Salem couples so he knows John is still suffering from the aneurysm. Marlena claims John is just fine but Orpheus says he understands John just got home from the hospital and is beginning his long road to recovery. Orpheus adds that John is sound asleep or else he would've heard them. Marlena warns him not to underestimate John and claims that he is at full strength so he'd be there in a second if she calls him. Orpheus suggests letting John sleep while she has some alone time with her worst nightmare.

Eli and Lani go home. Eli wants to make a quick call to the station to find out what's going on but Lani points out that they are off duty and the station will call them if they need them. Lani says they need to eat all the food in their fridge before it goes bad. Eli prepares the flashlight. Lani says Eli will be an amazing dad. Eli hopes the power is back on by tomorrow morning for Ciara's memorial. Eli says he can only imagine what Ben is going through right now.

Ben questions Clyde about the escape not being his idea and if he just stumbled into it. Clyde says he didn't learn about it until just before the break out. Clyde reveals it was Orpheus. Ben questions why he would work with Orpheus. Clyde says they have had their issues but he offered him a chance at freedom so he couldn't say no to that. Ben pulls out his phone. Clyde questions if he's turning him in. Ben explains that he's calling Marlena because last time Orpheus was free, he tried to kill her, so she needs to be warned.

Marlena asks Orpheus why he is here. She asks if he's going to plant a bomb under the sofa since he didn't kill her the last time he tried. Orpheus comments that he left too much time on the detonator then. Marlena asks if he's here to finish the job. Orpheus responds that he's not interested in blowing her up right now. Orpheus brings up the last time they played with fire. Orpheus then lights a match and reminds her of when she and Kayla were sealed in coffins. Marlena says he tried to burn them alive which Orpheus calls good times.

Gwen goes to Abigail's room and tells her that the whole county is out of power but her phone died before she could look up what caused it. Gwen adds that Jake checked the circuit breakers but everything seemed fine so they will just have to wait. Abigail hopes Jake and Chad don't run into each other in the dark. Abigail informs Gwen that she did convince Chad to reach out to Jake and try to make peace. Gwen asks how that went. Abigail explains that Chad offered Jake a spot in the executive training program and Jake was offended so now they hate each other more than ever. Gwen is sure Chad's heart was in the right place as she's learned the hard way that when Jake decides someone isn't a fan of him, he slams the door in their face. Abigail agrees that Jake is stubborn. Gwen talks about Jake being suspicious of her and accused her of having ulterior motives for planning the party for Abigail's parents which she questions.

Chad tells Dr. Rolf to get out of his house. Dr. Rolf says not until he takes back what belongs to him. Chad argues that nothing belongs to him but Rolf says Chad has the item most precious to him in the world. Chad asks what he's talking about. Rolf reveals that he's here for the microchip containing Stefano's essence because he knows the police gave it to Chad. Chad responds that he can't have that. Dr. Rolf is confident that he can persuade him to change his mind as he then pulls a gun on Chad.

Eli and Lani finish eating. Eli wishes the lights would come back on. Lani wonders about Kristen as she keeps thinking about her being stuck in police custody. Lani still doesn't understand why Kristen changed her plea and why she would confess to trying to kill Victor. Eli reminds her that she said she wanted to take responsibility for her actions and for her daughter to be proud of her. Lani argues that it doesn't make sense since Kristen was ready to fight and then just gave up. Lani asks if that makes sense to Eli.

Chad understands why Dr. Rolf wants the microchip but says he doesn't have it anymore. Dr. Rolf asks what he did with it. Chad says after it was taken out of Steve's head, the police gave it to him. Chad flashes back to talking to Tony about the microchip now belonging to them and they said they had a serious decision to make. Dr. Rolf asks what Chad did with him. Chad knows Rolf loves Stefano in his own very twisted way so he supposes he has the right to know.

Gwen tells Abigail that Jake is suspicious by nature and doesn't trust anyone. Abigail questions what ulterior motive Gwen could possibly have for helping her plan the party. Gwen claims she has no idea and says she's just trying to make her life easier. Abigail tells her how much she appreciates it. Abigail says she would not be able to put the party together without her. Gwen assures that she's really enjoying it and she thinks she's looking forward to the party more than anyone else. Gwen asks if she has looked over the menu that she and Julie created yet. Abigail says she hasn't yet but knows it needs to be finalized. Gwen understands how much she has going on and suggests doing it tomorrow then. Gwen asks if something is wrong. Abigail tells her that tomorrow is Ciara's memorial service.

Ben calls Marlena and leaves a message, warning her that Orpheus broke out of prison and could be back in Salem now. Ben asks her to call him back to let him know that she is okay because he's worried about her. Clyde questions why Ben cares so much about Marlena.

Marlena guesses Orpheus took advantage of the darkness to escape. Orpheus clarifies that he didn't take advantage of the darkness, he caused it. Orpheus declares that he brought the cloak of darkness on this town and on Marlena's world. Marlena asks him why. Orpheus calls that an excellent question that she will help him answer.

Gwen leaves Abigail a copy of the menu so she can look at it whenever she's ready. Gwen tells Abigail goodnight. Gwen goes to leave but stops and remembers to ask Abigail if Jake is still on the guest list after his fight with Chad. Abigail is hopeful they can learn to co-exist since they are brothers. Gwen guesses Jake won't be invited. Abigail feels they have a lot in common which Gwen questions. Gwen points out that Chad has wealth and a job while Jake spent most of his life sweating in a garage. Abigail talks about how Chad didn't grow up around his biological family either and really struggled to find his place. Gwen notes that at least Chad got to know his father but Abigail is not sure that was a positive thing in his life. Gwen asks why that is. Abigail responds that Stefano wasn't a very good person and she thinks anyone unlucky enough to be in Stefano's orbit would agree that the world is a better place without him.

Dr. Rolf warns Chad to stop playing around and asks where the microchip is. Chad repeats that he and Tony brought it back in a plastic bag after the police gave it to them. Chad remarks that it's hard to believe something so small could be so dangerous. Chad explains that he and Tony debated what to do with it. Chad flashes back to Tony suggesting they simply destroy the microchip but doing so would be destroying a life. Tony asked Chad how he felt about killing their father.

Lani knows Kristen had her demons and she doesn't excuse the terrible things she's done but attacking Victor wasn't one of them. Lani questions why not go to trial and why Kristen would choose to lose her daughter. Eli says he knows how much Lani cares about Kristen and how much she wants to protect her. Lani calls Kristen her best friend. Eli starts to continue but Lani gets a call from Shawn. Lani tells him they are on it and hangs up. Lani informs Eli that they traced the power outage to Statesville as someone cut the power line to set up a prison break. Eli asks if they know who did it and how many prisoners escaped. Lani reveals to him that three men escaped; Dr. Rolf, Clyde, and Orpheus.

Marlena questions Orpheus blacking out the town and breaking out of prison to come threaten her. Orpheus reveals that the reason is because he needs her help which she questions .Orpheus trusts that she will see it's in her best interest to oblige.

Ben tells Clyde that Marlena gave him his life back and she's the reason he was able to be with Ciara. Clyde tells him that he's sorry about Ciara. Ben says that Ciara was everything to him and the only person who truly believed in him after everything he had done in his life. Ben says they were going to have kids as Ciara always wanted a big family. Ben talks about promising to be a good dad. Clyde is sorry that Ben's hurting so bad. Ben questions if he is since he didn't like Ciara. Clyde admits he might not have at first but she won him over with the way she fought for Ben when he was on death row to stop his execution. Ben calls Ciara the bravest person he ever met. Clyde is sorry he can't be there for him at her memorial tomorrow since he has to lay low. Ben tells him it's alright because he doesn't think he's going anyway. Clyde questions why the hell not and what he has to do that is more important than that. Ben thinks back to vowing to kill Vincent.

Dr. Rolf asks what kind of monster Chad is for even considering destroying the microchip, killing his own father. Chad argues that his father was already dead while Rolf argues that he gave Stefano eternal life by putting his essence on the microchip which he calls the culmination of his life's work. Chad says it was funded by DiMera Enterprises so that means he owns it. Rolf says he created it, otherwise Stefano would've been gone forever and the world would have been a lesser place for it. Dr. Rolf asks if Chad understands that or if he and Tony destroyed the chip out of spite. Chad flashes back to that talk with Tony. Chad talked about how Stefano took over his soul so he wasn't wanting him to rise from the ashes but Tony pointed out that it wasn't only about how they feel.

Gwen asks Abigail if Chad was close with his father. Abigail calls that a complicated relationship and says Chad struggled for years with Stefano's legacy of terror and how to get out from underneath that and how to change the DiMera name to something he and his kids could be proud of. Gwen says that Chad seems honest and honorable. Abigail calls him everything that Stefano wasn't. Gwen is sure Abigail had something to do with that. Abigail wants to think their love had something to do with Chad rejecting Stefano's legacy. Gwen asks how Abigail's parents and JJ felt about her marrying Chad. Abigail admits they had their doubts at first but they love him now as a member of their family. Gwen says that must be so nice for Chad to have this amazing second family. Abigail says they're not perfect but Gwen says her parents are like the ideal couple. Abigail points out that they weren't always that way. Gwen acts shocked and says she thought their love was rock solid. Abigail explains that they never stopped loving each other but they hurt each other over the years and haven't always been this happy.

Ben tells Clyde that he needs to honor Ciara in his own way. Clyde questions what that means. Ben responds that he doesn't think her memorial is the place for him and asks what it matters to Clyde since he will be long gone by then. Ben asks what he can do to help Clyde on his way. Clyde says the question is what he can do for Ben. Clyde feels that if Marlena was here, she would say his guilt over not being able to protect Ciara is clouding his judgment. Clyde knows what Ben was headed out to do when he showed up. Ben insists he was going for a walk. Clyde responds that if Ben wants him to take care of Vincent, he can just say the word. Clyde says he knows the look on a man's face when he's about to hurt someone and he saw that look on Ben when he opened the door. Clyde asks Ben what is in his pocket. Ben tells him not to worry about it. Clyde asks Ben what he was headed out to do. Ben says he was going to make things right. Clyde says he hasn't always been the best father but if he can stop him from doing something stupid, he will. Clyde asks Ben again what he was fixing to do.

Marlena says that whatever Orpheus wants from her, she assumes it involves hurting someone so she wants no part of it. Orpheus grabs her and says normally he finds her defiance stimulating but he has no time for this game. Orpheus warns Marlena that she either walks out of the room with him and does as he asks or he will go to the other room to pay a visit to John. Orpheus asks what it's going to be.

Gwen tells Abigail that she is blowing her mind because she thought her parents' love was one for the ages. Abigail says it is but they've hurt each other and struggled over the years but always managed to make their way back to each other. Gwen brings up Jennifer's coma. Abigail calls that a long journey but hopes it's the last bump in the road for them. Gwen says she's grateful that she's able to help celebrate their love. Abigail calls them inspirational as they prove over and over that no matter how bad it gets, love can still win out. Gwen responds that she believes that as she is still a romantic even with the bad luck she has had. Gwen says that seeing Abigail and Chad and Jack and Jennifer is inspiring and gives her hope.

Dr. Rolf pleads with Chad to tell him what happened to the microchip as he doesn't have all night. Chad imagines the police are out looking for him. Rolf accuses him of stalling and hoping they find him. Chad wants him out of his house and his life so he will wrap this up. Chad informs him that after much debate, he and Tony made a decision about what to do with the microchip. Chad flashes back to that night, revealing that he and Tony set the microchip on fire and toasted a drink to Stefano. Dr. Rolf breaks down crying as Chad informs him that he's sorry but Stefano is gone for good this time and not even Rolf can bring him back.

Ben tells Clyde that he envisioned Ciara begging him not to do anything crazy and to move on but he can't move on because she's gone. Ben admits he was heading out to find justice because Vincent needs to pay for what he took from him and Ciara. Eli then knocks on Ben's door.

Marlena tells Orpheus that she won't let him hurt John. Orpheus says she can't really stop him so he asks if she's choosing option A. Marlena agrees to go with him. Orpheus thought she would see it his way. Lani then knocks on the door.

Abigail looks over the menu and tells Gwen that it looks great and that she and Julie did a fantastic job. Gwen agrees and says she's glad she stopped by. Abigail jokes that sometimes in the middle of the night during a blackout is the perfect time to get things done. Gwen mentions Abigail waiting for Chad to come back to bed. Abigail wonders what could be keeping him..

Dr. Rolf cries over the loss of Stefano. Chad repeats that Stefano is gone and never coming back so there is nothing here for him. Dr. Rolf argues that Chad never appreciated his place in the family or Stefano. Chad remarks that Stefano is probably in Hell. Dr. Rolf hopes he is prepared to join him then. Rolf declares that if Stefano is truly gone then there is nothing for him here except the task of avenging his death as he points his gun at Chad.

Eli knocks on Ben's door and says he needs to speak with him. Ben remains inside with Clyde.

Lani knocks on the door calling out for Marlena or John. Orpheus warns Marlena to get rid of Lani now unless she wants the death of Lani and her twins on her head. Marlena then answers the door and greets Lani, claiming that she's helping John get settled. Lani says she's sorry to bother them so late but she has bad news that Orpheus escaped prison tonight so she wanted to make sure they were safe. Marlena claims everything is quiet here and thanks Lani for stopping by. Lani tells her to let her know if they need anything. They say goodnight and Marlena shuts the door as Lani walks away. Orpheus then follows Marlena out.
