Abe and Melinda have breakfast at the Brady Pub. Melinda calls it nice but unexpected given their history. She thanks Abe for breakfast and for hiring her back as district attorney. Abe says that's what he wanted to talk to her about as he has some concerns. Melinda says they know that she knows this job and when she goes for a conviction, she gets it. Abe says no one would question her qualifications so Melinda asks what the problem is. Abe explains that when he hired her back, Kristen DiMera wasn't in custody and he never anticipated that Melinda would be prosecuting the woman who murdered her daughter.

Brady and Kristen wake up in bed together. Brady says he's glad she's here as he was afraid she might leave in the middle of the night. Kristen thinks he's a bit optimistic about how this will all play out but he does give her strength to fight for what she wants because for the first time in her life, she's not alone. Brady encourages that they will beat the charges and be able to raise their daughter and live their lives in the open with no running, hiding, or worries. Brady says other than Victor's statement, the authorities don't have an ounce of evidence against her.

Eli and Lani go to the interrogation room. Eli says they need to talk privately. Eli reminds her that Melinda wants the security footage from the night Kristen broke out of the station. Eli says he was able to stall her but he doesn't know how much longer he can put it off.

At the DiMera Mansion, Kate goes to Jake's room and looks through his closet but he comes out of the shower and catches her.

Gwen is in the living room of the DiMera Mansion. She looks at the portrait of Stefano and says they never had the pleasure of meeting but she thinks they would have liked each others' style. Gwen adds that they both think Abigail is a conniving bitch. Gwen declares that she is going to destroy Abigail. Abigail then walks in and asks if Gwen is having a little chat with Stefano. Gwen claims she was just talking to herself. Gwen comments that Stefano's portrait is kind of creepy and suggests taking it down. Abigail tells her even suggesting it would be disrespectful since Chad loved his father. Gwen says that must be nice that Chad has a lovely relationship with Abigail's father. Abigail talks about how Jack is nothing like Stefano. Chad comes in and greets Abigail with a kiss. Chad asks if they were talking about Stefano. Abigail says she just mentioned he was a unique and complicated man. Gwen mentions that she had Harold make decaf coffee for Abigail. Abigail thanks her but says she has to get to work. Abigail says she's excited for her first day back and thanks Gwen for offering to take care of the kids. Gwen assures that she loves children so they can focus on work while she takes care of everything at home.

Kate didn't realize Jake was home. Jake questions what she is snooping for. Kate explains that she was missing a dress and Harold told her it was probably in with Jake's dry cleaning. Jake looks in the closet and finds the dress for her. Kate sees Stefan's suit and questions why Jake is wearing his dead brother's suits.

Kristen tells Brady that she's trying to stay positive but Melinda is out for blood and hates her. Brady reminds her that she's out on bail and her trial isn't for a week so they can do anything she wants. Kristen kisses Brady until Rachel wakes up. Kristen says there is something important she needs to do today that is long overdue.

Lani tells Eli that maybe the security footage isn't as bad as he thinks. Eli allows Lani to take a look for herself. They watch the video which shows Lani walking Kristen out of the station. Lani then admits it's worse than she thought. Eli asks what if there's more and says Melinda will be all over this. Lani says he's scaring her. Eli says she should be scared since he has to turn this over to Melinda and she will see Lani helping Kristen escape.

Abe tells Melinda that he's sorry for her loss but Kristen wasn't charged in Haley's death because the evidence didn't warrant it. Melinda reminds him that Kristen has terrorized the citizens of Salem for years and always walked away untouched. Melinda questions why Abe defends her. Abe points out that Kristen still has rights under the law. Melinda threatens to bring Kristen to justice. Abe asks if it's for Haley's death or her current charges. Abe thinks it's best for everyone involved if Melinda would recuse herself from the case.

Lani questions what the footage shows since Kristen wasn't a fugitive yet and all she did was question her about Brady's confession then she let her out of the station. They watch the video again. Lani repeats that it really is as bad as it looks. Eli says this is everything she should have anticipated and Melinda will definitely use it against her.

Brady and Kristen go to the hospital with Rachel. They greet Marlena. Kristen mentions being happy to hear that John is better. Marlena mentions that Belle told her she got Kristen out on bail. Kristen says she wanted to make the most of it which is why she suggested Brady bring Rachel to spend time with her grandfather. Marlena responds that she wishes they hadn't done that.

Jake explains to Kate that it was Gabi's idea to put a fancy suit on him to help woo Collins into investing in DiMera. Kate says Gabi was using him. Jake points out how Collins liked him in the end. Kate mocks Jake's business acumen. Jake says he was real and they connected so he's expecting to close the deal any day now. Kate then informs him that Chad already took care of it. Jake argues that his brother could show him some respect.

Abigail thanks Gwen again. Gwen says everyone looked at her like a gold digger when she first moved in with Jake as it's easy to assume the worst. Chad points out that they don't really know that much about Gwen. Gwen says there isn't much to know but Chad disagrees. Chad decides since she's going to be taking care of their children, now would be a good time to fill them in. Gwen sits with them and says she didn't have many advantages growing up but she still thinks she's a good person. Kate comes in and says that Charlotte can't find her backpack and Thomas has gum in his hair so the nanny should be tending to them rather than chatting with her house mates. Gwen agrees that she should be doing that so she will go tend to her job. Abigail stops Gwen and says she doesn't want her to be treated like she's a servant but like a member of the family. Abigail kisses Chad goodbye and exits the room with Gwen. Kate questions if Chad thinks hiring Gwen is smart. Chad says they were in a bind since Abigail wanted to go back to work and Gwen offered. Chad remarks that at least Gwen wants to pay her way unlike Jake. Kate points out that Jake is his brother and he's a little angry. Jake then walks in and says he's a lot more than a little angry.

Marlena tells Kristen that John hasn't been himself so she's afraid that seeing her might trigger him. Brady admits they didn't think about that. Kristen asks if Brady can still take Rachel in to see John. Marlena thinks he would like that. Brady tells Kristen to wait for him. Kristen tells Rachel to have fun. Brady then takes Rachel in to see John. Marlena says she's sure Kristen understands. Kristen tells her she's grateful to have a chance to talk to her in private because she has something important to ask her.

Melinda refuses to recuse herself and tells Abe that no matter what her personal feelings are, she's a professional. Abe says it's obvious that she has a vendetta against Kristen DiMera. Melinda insists that she would never let her personal feelings interfere with her job and questions why he would bring her back if he thought she would. Abe says there is more involved here than her personal feelings. Melinda says she lost her daughter but she hasn't lost her integrity which is why she wants to follow the facts and if that exonerates Kristen of the attempted murder of Victor, so be it, but if it doesn't she'll get the punishment she deserves. Melinda declares that either way, justice will be served.

Lani worries to Eli about going to prison. Eli assures he won't let that happen as he hugs her. Eli suggests telling Abe the truth that she helped Kristen escape. Lani doesn't want to get Abe involved because he'd be so disappointed and heartbroken that she lied to him. Lani adds that Abe will think he has to resign because he's honorable and she's a dirty cop. Lani worries about being in Melinda's line of fire when she sees the footage unless she never sees it...

Jake argues that Chad could have at least given him a chance. Jake says DiMera is a family company and he deserves as much of a chance as Chad does. Chad fires back that Jake deserves nothing and warns that he's lucky he doesn't kick him out of the house but he's not working with him. Chad then walks out and Kate follows him.

Eli tells Lani that he already stalled Melinda for the night but she made it clear that she wants all of the footage this morning. Lani says there is plenty of footage to see, just maybe not the one where she's leading Kristen out of the station. Eli questions if she's saying she wants him to delete it.

Abe suggests Melinda let one of her assistants try the case instead of her. Melinda laughs off the idea and says she'd still be leading the investigation. Abe asks her to consider it. Melinda argues that the case has been mishandled since the beginning so she thinks it would be in Abe's best interest if they got it right this time.

Kristen figures Marlena hoped to never see her again. Marlena responds that she knows how much she means to Brady but she also knows that she jeopardized his future. Kristen assures that she never asked Brady to take the blame for her stabbing Victor and that she will accept the consequences if she is found guilty. Kristen talks about Brady being so sure that things will go their way and how much she loves him. Kristen acknowledges that if she is punished, she goes to prison and that means Brady will have to raise their daughter alone. Kristen says that Brady is a wonderful father but a little girl needs a woman to help guide her. Kristen asks Marlena to help raise Rachel if she does go to prison. Marlena admits she didn't see that coming. Kristen says it would mean everything to her and points out how Marlena was there from the very beginning. Kristen adds that she will understand whatever she decides but she is asking for Rachel, not herself.

Abe tells Melinda that the optics of the case and her obvious conflicts of interest is very troubling. Melinda insists that she will do her job and follow the evidence. Abe says that's all he can ask. Abe brings up personal feelings and says he's sure that she knows Lani is good friends with Kristen but Melinda responds that she had no idea.

Lani tells Eli that she loves him so much and has already put him in a horrible position by helping Kristen so she doesn't want to do that again. Lani asks Eli to just go to his desk. Eli refuses to go anywhere until she tells him what she's thinking. Lani suggests that while Eli is working at his desk, the footage is accidentally deleted and then Eli's hands are clean so he wouldn't have to lie and the problem would just got away.

Abigail walks into the living room where Jake says he thought she would be at work. Abigail informs him that her car won't start. Jake offers to take a look but Abigail doesn't want his help. Jake asks if he did something to upset her. Abigail brings up how Jake wanted her to believe there was more to Gwen kissing Chad when she was just trying to make him jealous. Jake admits he's guilty of that and was just trying to stir up trouble for Chad, not her. Jake apologizes which surprises Abigail. Jake states that he was an ass but most of the time he's a decent guy despite what Chad thinks. Abigail accepts his apology. Jake then advises Abigail to watch out for Gwen.

Chad and Kate sit together in the town square. Kate questions Chad going off on Jake. Chad says after what Jake pulled, he will never be involved with DiMera. Kate says Jake was in over his head with Gabi but that's over. Kate thinks Jake gets under Chad's skin because he looks like the man who slept with his wife.

Abigail tells Jake that Gwen apologized for kissing Chad. Jake says that she didn't mean it. Abigail brings up Jake cheating on Gwen with Gabi. Gwen appears and listens from outside the door as Jake tells Abigail that he's not perfect but Gwen doesn't do anything that doesn't help herself. Abigail says that offering to take care of her of kids so she could go back to work seemed pretty selfless. Jake suggests she was worried about getting kicked out otherwise. Abigail states that Gwen is making an effort so she's going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Jake wishes Chad could give him the benefit of the doubt. Abigail points out that Jake worked with Gabi against Chad. Jake claims he had no idea what he was walking in to but the whole Collins deal happened because of him. Jake wants Chad to give him a chance but he hates him. Abigail brings up Chad's complicated relationship with Stefan so when he looks at Jake, he sees everything he hated about his brother. Jake asks if he doesn't stand a chance. Abigail informs him that he will have to prove himself and suggests not trying to screw Chad over this time. Jake says he just wants to be a real part of the family. Abigail wishes him luck with that. Jake asks if there is any way that she could go to bat for him with Chad and tell him that he's not the enemy.

Marlena reminds Kristen of when she came by before going into labor and she told Kristen that she hoped having a child with Brady would change her. Marlena admits she honestly thinks that it has. Kristen acknowledges them giving her the love that she never thought she deserved and she hopes to be worthy. Marlena decides that if Kristen ends up going to prison, she will keep an eye on her daughter. Kristen hugs her and thanks her. Brady returns with Rachel and asks if he missed something. Marlena informs him that they were just saying how much they love Brady and Rachel. Kristen asks how Rachel's time with John was. Brady says John very much enjoyed it and they only left so they didn't tire him out. Brady suggests taking Rachel for a stroll in the park and getting lunch in the town square. Marlena wishes Kristen luck in her trial and tells Brady that she will keep him posted on John's condition. Marlena adds that she wants to be their first call if they need a babysitter. Marlena then walks away as Kristen hugs Brady.

Abe assumed Melinda knew about Lani's friendship with Kristen. Melinda notes that it's not a friendship she would have predicted. Abe explains that they met in Italy and Lani was there when Kristen really needed a friend. Melinda calls that interesting. Abe says the point is, he would like Melinda and Lani to both keep their personal feelings out of this case. Melinda gives her word and they shake hands. Melinda says that she now has to check in with Eli about some evidence she asked him for. Melinda then exits the Pub.

Eli questions Lani wanting to destroy the evidence. Lani says if it was just about her, she would accept whatever happens but she can't go to prison with their babies coming so she has to figure out some way out of this. Eli reminds her that they are in this together and they will figure it out and face whatever comes. Lani cries that she's so sorry as Eli hugs her. Eli then gets a call and says he'll be right back as he exits the room to answer.

Chad argues that Stefan raped Abigail when she was not in her right mind. Kate knows how painful that is for him but points out that Jake is not Stefan. Chad questions if she's defending Jake. Kate says she's just saying they are two completely different people. Kate comments that Jake's man of the people vibe is kind of appealing and suggests using him with Collins but Chad doesn't trust him. Kate offers to keep an eye on Jake for him.

Abigail agrees to try to talk to Chad but notes that he's very stubborn and his history with Stefan is ugly so she doesn't know how much good it will do. Gwen remains listening outside the door. Jake says it means a lot if Abigail is willing to try. Abigail says she's not promising anything. Abigail says she has to call the driver to get to work but Jake offers to fix her car. Gwen then walks away as Abigail and Jake exit to go take a look at her car. Gwen then sneaks back in to the living room and approaches the portrait of Stefano again. Gwen talks about Abigail being trusting and suddenly being best friends with Jake. Gwen bets Stefano is thinking what she's thinking and states now she just has to figure out how to do it.

Brady and Kristen sit at the hospital with Rachel. Brady brings up Kristen hugging Marlena and says he never thought he'd see that so he asks how it happened. Kristen tells Brady that they both love him and Rachel. Brady tells Kristen that he loves her with all his heart as they kiss.

Eli finishes his call as Melinda arrives to the station and asks Eli for the evidence she requested. Eli hands over a list of everyone who was on duty the day that Victor accused Kristen and she walked out of the police station. Melinda asks for the footage. Lani comes out of the interrogation room and hands over the laptop, saying it's in there.
