Days of Our Lives Update Wednesday 7/8/20

Will continues Justin and Kayla's wedding ceremony and asks if anyone objects but no one does. Will starts to continue but Justin stops and declares there is something he needs to say.

Steve explains that it won't be good for him to sit around and watch Kayla and Justin be happy together. Hope asks what he's going to do. Steve brings up a Black Patch case that will assist the ISA helping Shane which will take months of work around Europe. Steve tells John that he wants that case. John points out that would mean leaving Salem indefinitely which Steve confirms. John asks if he's nuts. Steve says throwing himself into a case and getting as far away as possible seems sane to me. Marlena asks about his children and all the people that care about him. John adds that it means going underground. Steve says he won't have to watch Kayla and Justin be happy together which is what he wants and needs.

Justin says that he needs to say this. Justin tells Kayla that there is nothing he would love more than to hear her take him as her husband but he can't let this wedding go on without her knowing the truth and being honest. Kayla asks honest about what. Justin informs her that he was on his way over and overheard Hope and Jennifer talking about Steve and his feelings for her. Justin informs Kayla that Steve still loves her and he wants her back. Kayla doesn't know what they were talking about and says that Steve made it clear to her more than once that she's better off with Justin. Victor adds that Steve said the same thing to Justin about an hour ago. Justin responds that he didn't mean a word of it and asks Jennifer. Jennifer feels bad as she didn't know he overheard them. Justin tells her that he talked to Hope after and she confirmed that Steve never stopped loving Kayla or wanting to be her husband. Kayla questions why he didn't tell her that then. Justin talks about how guilty Steve felt about abandoning her and getting caught by Stefano. Kayla argues that Steve said that guilt is something he could never get past. Kayla says this is their wedding day and questions why Justin is talking about Steve. Justin tells her that Steve did get past that guilt and realized he couldn't live without her. Justin brings up Steve going to the hospital to talk to her but before he could, he saw him propose to her in the nurses station which is why he backed off because he thought she was as happy as he was that they were engaged. Kayla turns to Jennifer and questions if she knew the entire time that Steve wanted her back.

John tells Steve that disappearing won't make him forget Kayla. Steve calls it a start and says he'll figure out a way to explain it to his kids. Steve guesses by now Justin and Kayla are married. Hope says that's unless Justin's conscience got the better of him and he decided to tell Kayla that Steve is still in love with her. John questions why the hell he would do that. Hope explains that she told Steve that Justin knew the truth because he overheard her and Jennifer talking about Steve still being in love with Kayla and wanting her back. Hope says Justin confronted her so she had no choice but to confirm what he heard. John feels that changes things. Marlena calls Justin a decent man so she can't imagine him keeping that information from Kayla. John questions Hope and Jennifer knowing. Hope adds that Jack knew too. Steve says he swore Jack to secrecy. John questions four people knowing and nobody telling Kayla. Marlena declares it's all up to Justin now.

Jennifer admits to Kayla that she's known for awhile that Steve never wanted to lose her and she just found out this morning that Hope knew. Kayla questions them not telling her. Justin explains that Steve didn't want them to. Jennifer talks about how hard it was to keep it from her. Justin adds that they agreed that it was up to Steve to talk to her and he didn't. Kayla calls that just like him to confide in all her friends but not her. Jack argues that Steve was just trying to do right by her. Kayla questions Jack being in on this too.

Steve assures that Justin will not tell Kayla how he feels about her because he's not an idiot so he won't jeopardize spending his life with her which is how he wants it.

Jack explains to Kayla that Steve confided in him and asked him to keep it to himself. Jack says he told Jennifer because they don't keep secrets from each other but Steve is his brother. Victor can't believe they are rehashing this here. Victor argues that Justin and Kayla love each other so who cares how Steve feels and tells them to get on with it. Sonny argues that it's important. Kayla tells Justin that this is supposed to be the happiest day of their life. Kayla agrees with Victor and asks why Justin brought up Steve. Justin informs her that he just found out himself and it threw him for a loop as he didn't know whether to tell her immediately, not tell her at all, or wait until after they were married to tell her but then it was time for the ceremony. Justin states that he knew he just couldn't get married unless she knew the truth. Kayla asks what she's supposed to do. Justin tells her to think back to the day that Steve went to the hospital and saw him propose, asking what if Steve had the chance to tell her what was in his heart before he proposed. Justin questions if they would still be standing here now. Kayla argues about what he's asking her to process here in the middle of their wedding. Justin knows it's not fair. Kayla clarifies that she's not blaming him because he was misled like her but at least he had the courage to tell her that Steve wants her back. Kayla questions everybody knowing about it but her. Justin tells her not to blame them because it's how Steve wanted it.

Steve declares he's done talking about Justin and Kayla as by now they are already married and he wants to take the assignment for the ISA. John says if Steve wants to run away, he can go for it. Steve reveals he has a ticket to DC and his flight leaves soon. Steve tells John that he loves him like a brother but he can't stay here and watch his wife be married to another man. John argues that he just doubled their case load because he brought him back into the business. Steve questions him being so stubborn. John responds that he knows if Steve gets on that plane, he'll never see him again. Marlena argues that John won't change his mind and Steve needs their support right now. John questions Hope being okay with this. Hope says she's not as she will miss him terribly but he doesn't need their permission. Steve decides he has a flight to catch and gets up from the table. Marlena hugs Steve. Steve tells her to keep an eye on John so he's not lost without him. John hugs Steve and tells him to come back. Steve says he will try and he loves them. Steve then exits the Pub with Hope, leaving John and Marlena in tears.

Justin tells Kayla how he wishes he took a different route so he didn't overhear Jennifer and Hope's conversation as they would be married now and celebrating with everyone but that doesn't change the fact that he heard what he heard. Justin adds that even before he heard it, it's been on his mind that Kayla may have been avoiding her feelings for Steve because she didn't want to hurt him. Justin wants Kayla to have whatever makes her the happiest. Justin declares that if Steve's feelings don't matter to her anymore then they will get married and spend the rest of their lives together. Justin then tells Kayla that she doesn't have to say a word because he can see it in her eyes. Justin explains that he didn't come straight to Kayla after talking to Hope because he went to the cemetery to tell Adrienne that if she survived the accident, he would still be married to her and Kayla would still be their dear friend. Justin adds that what he's learned about falling in love with a dear friend is that the friendship doesn't die. Justin tells Kayla that Steve wants her back and as a man who is madly in love with her, he wishes that wasn't the case but as a man who will always be her friend, he's happy for her. Kayla hugs Justin as he breaks down crying. Justin thanks everyone for coming and announces there is not going to be a wedding today. Kayla cries that Justin means so much to her and she never meant to hurt him like this. Justin assures that he knows and kisses her. Justin tells her they are good as he then exits the mansion.

Hope brings Steve home to pack his bags. Steve thanks her for letting him stay with her all this time. Hope responds that friends stick together except now he's ditching her. Steve says she will survive. Hope asks Steve to stay one more night and at least find out what happened at the wedding. Steve argues that he already knows they got married. Hope says he doesn't know what happened since Justin could've told Kayla that Steve is still in love with her. Steve argues that it wouldn't matter because he knows Kayla is sure of herself and Justin. Hope pleads with him to stay one more night but Steve says he can't do it. Steve doesn't want to cut himself off from his kids and his friends but he can't see any other way to handle it. Steve says he has to get going and continues packing.

Kayla removes her engagement ring and sets it on the table. Sonny decides he's going to find Justin. Will tells him to let him know if there's anything he can do as Sonny exits. Kayla tells Jennifer that she will never get to hear the song that Justin wrote for her as her wedding present. Kayla points out how hurt Justin was and asks how Steve could do that. Jennifer insists she wanted to tell her as soon as she found out. Jack assures that it was all him since Steve asked him to keep it to himself so he held Jennifer to it. Jack talks about how stubborn Steve is. Kayla argues that Steve just had to be honest with her. Jennifer agrees that Steve should've told her how he felt. Jack argues that Steve did sacrifice his own happiness for what he thought Kayla really wanted. Jennifer knows Kayla loves Justin but says she belongs with Steve. Kayla questions if she does. Jennifer thinks the only way to know that is for Kayla to go to Steve now and talk to him. Kayla decides that's what she will do so she rushes out of the mansion.

John finishes a call with Shane, thanking him for making the arrangements on short notice. John hangs up and tells Marlena that at least Shane is happy. Marlena knows how much John loves having Steve with him and she's sorry. John says it's not about him but it's not good for Steve to go off again. John argues that Steve should stick around and see how things shake out, pointing out that they found their way back to each other so Steve and Kayla could too. Marlena responds that not everybody gets to be as happy as they are so maybe they just have to accept that Kayla is with Justin which John agrees with. Marlena says they want Kayla to be happy and be with an upstanding guy. John calls Justin a great guy but he wonders if he loves Kayla as much as Steve because he doesn't think that's possible.

Steve finishes packing his bag. Hope reminds him to take his key to the city. Steve can't believe he let Kate talk him into being part of that bogus event. Hope reminds him they did it mostly for Abe. Steve guesses this is it and jokes that Hope can be happy to get her den back. Hope says he wasn't that much trouble and admits she will miss him. Hope tells him to be careful. Steve says he will miss her too. Steve adds that it may not be his business but he thinks it's time Hope got on with her life because she's too good, smart, and beautiful to be alone. Hope thanks him but says right now she's focusing on being mother of the bride. Steve is sorry he can't be at the wedding and asks Hope to explain things to Ciara for him. Steve jokes that maybe she will catch the bouquet. Steve hugs Hope and says goodbye. Hope tells him it's never goodbye.

Justin goes home with boxes to begin packing his things. Sonny comes in and tells him he doesn't have to do this now. Justin tells him it's Kayla's apartment so he'd rather avoid another gut wrenching encounter. Sonny decides to help him pack. Justin recalls the great time he and Kayla had at the jazz festival. Justin cries that he really loved those nights with Kayla. Sonny tells him he was really proud of him today. Justin reminds Sonny how lucky he is to find a love to last a lifetime. Justin says he found that with Adrienne and really thought he found it again but he lost them both. Sonny says he lost Adrienne but if he kept quiet about Steve, he and Kayla would be married now. Justin argues that it wouldn't have worked because it felt like he was conning her. Sonny encourages that he did the right thing but he wishes he wasn't hurting so much as he hugs him.

Kayla goes to Hope's and says nobody answered the door so she used the spare key. Hope questions what she's doing here in her wedding dress. Kayla informs Hope that Justin stopped the wedding because he heard Hope and Jennifer's conversation about Steve wanting her back. Hope hopes she understands why she couldn't tell her. Kayla knows Steve wouldn't let her and says she's here because she has to talk to him. Hope informs Kayla that Steve left and from what he said, he isn't coming back.

Marlena asks what John is thinking. John brings up Bo and how he went off like Steve is doing then when Steve found him and brought him home, he was dying. John acknowledges that Steve is not a young man anymore and has one eye so he questions who is going to bring him home. Marlena suggests maybe he'll come home on his own. Marlena wishes there was a way to make him feel better and suggests a game of darts. John jokes that he would just crush her and talks about how he and Steve would play as he then thanks her.

Kayla questions Hope about Steve not coming back. Hope reveals that he just left for the airport, saying he had a flight to DC because he took on a case for Shane. Kayla argues that Steve swore he would never go back to the ISA. Hope explains that Steve said he couldn't stay in Salem and watch her and Justin live happily ever after as a married couple. Kayla asks where Steve is headed. Hope tells her it's top secret. Kayla can't believe Steve did this. Hope suggests it's not too late so maybe she can catch him at the airport. Kayla says she better because he has some explaining to do. Hope says she will call him as Kayla rushes out.

Steve goes to the airport and calls Jack, leaving a message that he's sorry he didn't get to say goodbye to he and Jennifer. Steve adds that they won't be able to contact each other but he thinks Kayla will be happy with Justin. Steve asks him to keep an eye on her and says he's been a good brother to him. Steve hangs up and then Hope calls but Steve ignores it, saying he's sorry but he has no time.

Justin continues packing and finds Kayla's old wedding photo of her and Steve in the drawer. Sonny comes back in and tells him his boxes are in the car. Sonny tells him that what he did today was noble as he doesn't know another guy who would've been so honest. Sonny recalls when he and Will broke up and how the only thing that helped was time. Justin tells him that he's helping him a lot. Justin asks Sonny to take the boxes back to the Kiriakis Mansion so he can be alone for awhile so Sonny then exits. Justin sets Kayla and Steve's wedding photo up on the desk and breaks down crying as he then exits the apartment.

Hope leaves a message for Steve, telling him not to get on the plane and to call her when he gets this. Jack and Jennifer rush in, noting the door was open. Hope tells them that Kayla was there. Jennifer asks what Steve said and if she's with him.

Steve prepares to board his flight and tells the attendant that Salem is his hometown and most of the people he loves are here. He questions why he's leaving then. Steve responds that sometimes you don't have a choice. Steve then exits for his flight.

Marlena jokes with John that she could be his new drinking buddy. John praises her and says he loves everything about her as they kiss.

Jack questions Steve being back with the ISA and not saying anything about that. Jennifer can't believe Kayla is looking for Steve while he's going undercover. Hope says she called him multiple times but it keeps going to voicemail so they have to pray that Kayla gets there in time. Jack decides to call the airport but sees he got a message from Steve, so he plays the voicemail for them of Steve saying goodbye.

Kayla arrives at the airport and says she needs to get to the DC flight but she doesn't have a ticket. Kayla says she needs to talk to someone on the flight and it's an emergency but she is told that no one gets past the check point without a ticket. Kayla decides she'll buy a ticket then and walks off.

Sonny returns to the Kiriakis Mansion and tells Will that Justin was packing up his stuff. Will calls it pretty brutal. Sonny says he tried to get Justin to come back with him but he said he needed time alone and he has a pretty good idea of where he went..

Justin goes to Adrienne's grave at the cemetery and says it's just them again as things didn't work out as he planned. Justin talks about Steve pretending to be over Kayla and he couldn't keep it from her. Justin says he should've known when Steve came back, it would end this way. Justin adds that if there was a chance that Adrienne was alive, he wouldn't stop until he found her and there would be no one else for him. Justin gets up and turns around to see what appeared to be Adrienne..

Kayla buys a flight ticket but is told that she's too late as the flight is closed and the plane left the gate. Kayla breaks down crying but Steve comes back and sees her.
