Hope goes to Rafe's house and says she couldn't wait any longer for him to call to find out what happened after she left him alone with Zoey. Hope brings up Zoey holding them at gunpoint and hitting Rafe with a bullet. Hope argues that Zoey has to know she has no chance in Hell at getting custody of David. Rafe informs her that does not seem to be the case as Zoey is suing for full custody and the hearing is today.

Zoey goes to the prison to see Christian but sees Orpheus instead. Orpheus tells her to sit down because he has a few things to say to her.

Eli, Lani, and Abe sit with Julie in the town square. Julie asks if they are tired of Julie's Place. Eli and Lani explain that they wanted to take her out to lunch. Eli and Lani then announce they are celebrating their engagement which excites Julie.

Kayla is at the hospital and finds Steve's note in her pocket that he had left on her desk, saying he's glad everything worked out the way it did.

Steve sits at the bar of the Brady Pub and toasts to the happy couple then orders another drink. Jack arrives and sees Steve drinking alone.

Jennifer greets Kayla at the hospital and asks if she's okay. Kayla claims she was just thinking about work and asks if there's any news on Abigail. Jennifer says they are optimistic and she came to the hospital to thank Marlena for the recommendation. Kayla thinks she's in the middle of a staff meeting but offers to check. Jennifer then sees the ring on Kayla's finger and congratulates her. Jennifer asks if it's from Justin. Kayla says of course and questions who else it would be from.

Jack joins Steve at the bar. Steve questions if he has nothing else to do. Jack explains that he and Jennifer are babysitting the grandkids while Chad is with Abigail getting her settled in Florida so he's ordering food from the Pub. Jack comments that he seems like he wants to be alone but that's not going to happen as he's staying right here until Steve tells him why he's drinking shots at this time of day. Steve informs Jack that Kayla and Justin are getting married.

After seeing Lani's ring, Julie complains about Gabi being free since they should've been married long ago but Gabi ruined it like she ruins everything she touches. Eli tells Julie that on his next day off, he'll listen to her talk about how horrible Gabi is if she doesn't do it now. Julie talks about getting over a ticking time bomb being put in her. Julie then apologizes for ruining the celebration and tells Eli and Lani that she will marry them but Abe interjects and says he's the mayor of this town so he will perform the ceremony then asks if that's what Lani and Eli want.

Zoey tells Orpheus that she has nothing to say to him after he threatened her child and blames him for Christian being in prison. Orpheus blames her and says he won't have her blaming him for her mistakes.

Hope questions if Zoey has lost her mind still wanting full custody when she was an accessory to kidnapping. Rafe explains that she says she had to go along with Orpheus to protect her son. Hope remarks that she can't expect Orpheus' daughter to be sane and rational. Hope apologizes if she's stressing him out more. Rafe says he's just afraid that Zoey will convince a judge. Hope realizes that Zoey will blame her for the gun going off. Rafe knows Zoey will use every trick in the legal book to get custody of David. Hope questions taking David away from Rafe when Zoey has her own son to take care of. Rafe says she's apparently fighting her ex for custody. Hope asks if she wants David to take his place. Rafe says the idea of David being in that family scares the hell out of him. Hope talks about seeing how happy David is with Rafe so they can't let this happen. Hope tells Rafe that she wants to help and asks if there's any way she can. Rafe responds that there actually is.

Abe tells Julie that she doesn't have the best track record when it comes to weddings. Julie remarks that no one does in Salem. Abe points out that Lani is his daughter while Julie points out that Eli is her grandson. Eli suggests letting he and Lani decide who will marry them so Julie and Abe agree. Abe asks if Lani has made any decisions about the ceremony. Lani responds that she would like him to walk her down the aisle. Julie thinks that means she will take over the ceremony but Eli doesn't think that's such a good idea.

Jack goes over Steve going to tell Kayla how he feels and that he loves her but she had to go see Victor and on the way back, he saw Justin proposing so he left a note and left. Jack guesses Steve doesn't like the idea of Kayla being married to someone else and that he didn't mean it when he said Kayla was better off with Justin. Steve says he changed his mind but now he thinks he was probably right the first time. Steve asks if there's anything he can do to make Jack go away. Jack says no as he's staying here until he turns his life around. Jack argues that Steve keeps trying to do Kayla's thinking for her. Steve threatens to throw him out. Jack assures that Kayla loves Steve as much as he loves her so he needs to go tell her that he still loves her and wants back in her life. Steve argues that Kayla is engaged. Jack says Steve allowed that to happen. Steve questions what he was supposed to do. Jack suggests Steve should've interrupted and proposed to Kayla himself. Steve says he's glad he left the note because later he and Hope saw Kayla with Justin and she seemed really happy so at least he didn't make a fool out of himself. Jack remarks that it's exactly what he did.

Kayla tells Jennifer about Justin proposing to her in the hospital. Jennifer asks if everyone was watching. Kayla wants to talk about something else. Jennifer guesses it was impulsive and romantic and says she loves the ring. Jennifer adds that it just doesn't seem like Justin, it seems like Steve, and she didn't see this coming. Kayla admits she didn't either and she still hasn't wrapped her head around it. Jennifer asks if she told Steve yet. Kayla confirms that they bumped into Steve and Hope so he knows. Kayla mentions Steve leaving the note that said he was glad she and Justin were happy. Jennifer doesn't believe that but Kayla thinks Steve wants her to move on so that's what she is going to do.

Hope tells Rafe to just tell her what she can do. Rafe brings up the hearing being today and asks her if she will testify. Hope quickly agrees. Rafe notes that it won't be easy since Zoey is comfortable slinging mud. Hope asks why Rafe didn't just call and ask her if she didn't happen to stop by. Rafe says he didn't want to impose. Hope asks if he really thought she'd look at it that way. Rafe admits he did because of their history. Hope wants to just concentrate on their good history which Rafe agrees with. Hope suggests he wear the suit she got him for Christmas a few years ago. Rafe is glad she's in his corner as he goes to change and check on David.

Zoey tells Orpheus that she used to be scared of him because she thought he was so powerful but now she's scared because he's so stupid and dangerous. Zoey argues that her brother is behind bars because Orpheus is an inept criminal and now Christian could lose David and she could lose her son because of the idiotic things Orpheus thinks is fine to do. Zoey mentions going to the custody hearing that she will probably lose because of the ammunition that Orpheus served up to Rafe. Orpheus argues that she will lose for the same reason she lost Christian's case and calls her a terrible lawyer. Zoey asks how a criminal mastermind gets taken down by a one-eyed washed up loser like Steve Johnson.

Jack wants Steve to sober up before telling Kayla that he still loves her and wants back in her life so she doesn't think it's just the liquor talking. Steve says he doesn't need to sober up because he's not telling Kayla anything since she's engaged to Justin and happy so he won't screw up her happiness again. Jack thinks Kayla has a right to an informed choice and that she accepted Justin's proposal because she thought Steve was out of the picture. Steve asks how Jennifer deals with him. Jack says he's no prize and remembers everything he put Jennifer through but love doesn't make sense. Jack states that Jennifer deals with him because they love each other like Steve and Kayla do. Jack doesn't know why Kayla loves Steve or why Jennifer loves him but says you don't question it, you thank God for it. Steve admits he loves Kayla but he won't tell her that because he loves her. Steve argues that he's trying to do the right thing here so he asks Jack to leave him be.

Kayla shows Jennifer the note that Steve wrote. Jennifer recognizes Steve's handwriting but says it doesn't sound like him. Kayla talks about how the whole thing was weird and guesses Steve thought she wasn't coming back so he left the note. Jennifer points out that Steve wrote that he hopes she and Justin are happy together. Kayla believes there's no way that Steve could've known that Justin proposed but it was like he was giving his blessing. Jennifer asks if she thinks she needs his blessing. Kayla says no but guesses it would be good. Jennifer feels things have obviously changed and asks Kayla if she's sure she wants to marry Justin when there's still a chance for her and Steve.

Eli thinks that seeing Julie ready to marry he and Lani will remind him of when she was ready to marry he and Gabi which is the last thing he wants to be reminded of which Julie understands. Eli adds that it's not personal. Julie asks who do they want to marry them then. Lani suggests Marlena since she was supposed to marry them the first time. Julie calls that a great idea and decides now it's time to celebrate. Julie orders a bottle of champagne while Lani points out that she won't be having any as she announces that she's pregnant. Julie and be hug Eli and Lani as Julie calls it the most wonderful news. Lani accidentally knocks over a glass and Julie tells her that she knows she's worried. Lani admits she can't help feeling scared after losing their first child.

Orpheus remarks that Steve will get what's coming to him. Zoey thinks Orpheus should be grateful to Steve for stopping Justin from killing him. Orpheus argues that Justin didn't have it in him to shoot him but he's glad that Justin has found happiness with Kayla. Zoey asks if prison has made him soft. Orpheus explains that he enjoys picturing the woman of Steve's dreams in the arms of another man in his bed and says it will be slow, long term torture for him. Zoey calls slow long torture his favorite thing.. Zoey tells him to let Christian know that she will check in with him after the hearing. Orpheus warns that it better be good news because he doesn't want Rafe Hernandez raising his grandson. Zoey says she doesn't either but she knows how to deal with him.

Hope helps Rafe with his tie and calls him a good father. Rafe admits he's trying not to be nervous while Hope encourages that everything will be okay. Rafe asks about Ciara and her wedding. Hope notes him changing the subject. Hope mentions Julie officiating the wedding so Rafe jokingly asks what can go wrong. Hope adds that she will tell the judge what a wonderful stepfather Rafe was to Ciara. Rafe admits he loves kids so Hope believes he was born to be a father and they're going to make it happen as they then exit together.

Jack invites Steve to come home with him and play with the grandkids but Steve says maybe some other time. Jack tells him he's sorry as he knows how hard it is. Steve calls Jack weird and annoying but not a bad brother. Jack advises him not to drink too much but Steve says it's too late. Jack then exits the Pub.

Kayla tells Jennifer that she loves Justin. Jennifer says that doesn't mean marrying him is the right thing to do. Jennifer talks about loving Eric but when he proposed, she knew it was a rebound and she should've said no. Kayla argues that this is not the same thing at all. Jennifer then asks if she would say yes to Justin if she knew there was still a chance for her and Steve.

Lani apologizes if she brought anybody down but Julie assures that they understand. Eli points out that the good news is there's less of a chance with this pregnancy. Lani adds that Kayla will be watching her all the way through while Julie says they will be praying. Lani talks about how much the baby means to her and that she knows Eli will make an amazing father.

Kayla tells Jennifer the doctors don't like hypothetical situations and the fact is that Steve is ready for them both to move on so she's moving on with Justin because she loves him and she knows he loves her. Jennifer thinks it's time for her to butt out and says she is so happy for her as she thinks Justin is great. Jennifer hugs her and says she loves her. Jennifer mentions that she and Jack are babysitting the grandkids at the DiMera Mansion so she invites Kayla and Justin over to celebrate. Kayla says that sounds fun but she and Justin are meeting for dinner to start wedding planning. They agree to do it soon. Jennifer wants to throw her a bridal shower and then exits while Kayla looks back at Steve's note.

Steve remains at the bar, singing the blues about letting Kayla go as he continues to drink.

Abe, Julie, Lani, and Eli toast to the bride and groom, to happily ever after, and to the new baby.

Jack returns to Jennifer at the DiMera Mansion. Jennifer tells him that he won't believe what Kayla just told her but Jack reveals he already knows that Kayla and Justin are engaged. Jennifer questions how he could possibly know that. Jack informs her that Steve is at the Pub "celebrating".

Steve throws darts then stagger back to his seat at the bar and continues drinking.

Kayla gets a call from Justin, who tells her that he can't make dinner because of the custody hearing. Kayla tells him it's no problem and that she will grab a bite at the Pub. Kayla tells Justin that she sends her love to Rafe and hangs up.

Rafe and Hope walk past the Brady Pub and run in to Zoey, who informs them that she just got an e-mail from Justin notifying her that Hope is going to testify. Hope wishes her luck explaining to the judge what really happened in the warehouse. Zoey says it's simple that Hope is responsible for the gun going off. Hope argues that she didn't put the gun in her hand. Zoey adds that Hope let her go so clearly she didn't see her as a threat. Hope says if Zoey really cares about David, she'd drop the custody suit now and let David stay with Rafe. Zoey warns Hope that if she takes the stand, she will rip her to shreds. Rafe brings up that Zoey said that when Christian was on trial too. Zoey responds that they will see who has the last laugh as she walks away. Hope declares that she just threatened the wrong person. Rafe agrees as they walk off together.

Eli and Lani walk through the town square, talking about their lunch going well. Lani says Julie can be a real comfort as she understands it's not that she doesn't want the baby but maybe that she wants it too much. Eli says he could've been more understanding. Lani encourages that they are getting married and will have a family so they can just be happy as they kiss.

Jack tells Jennifer that Steve was drinking with no sign of stopping, clearly upset about Justin and Kayla. Jennifer asks about the note that Steve wrote which Jack says was bull.

Kayla goes to the Brady Pub and sees Steve drinking at the bar as he then turns around and sees her.
