Chad sits at Abigail's side as she sleeps in her hospital bed. Chad says that everything will be okay and they will figure out what's going on. Jack and Jennifer arrive to ask how she is. Chad tells them that Abigail was upset about the hallucinations so they had to sedate her all night. Chad tells them that they were having a good night and he went to take off his tie then she freaked out, thinking that he was Ben. Jennifer worries about what is going on and if Abigail is relapsing.

Marlena finishes a call with Kayla at home, saying she'll be sure to stop by. John asks her what's wrong. Marlena informs him that Abigail was admitted to the hospital last night after having hallucinations. John hoped those mental issues were behind her. Marlena says she was too but she'll stop by to see if there's anything she can do to help. John adds that there is someone he needs to check on too. Marlena guesses that's Brady and notes that he barely slept last night. John responds that he can't believe Brady stabbed Victor.

Justin goes to the hospital and asks Kayla how Victor is. Kayla tells him that he made it through surgery but he's in critical condition as his wounds were extensive and he lost a lot of blood so he's on a ventilator now. Justin has no doubt that Victor will be fine since Kayla performed the operation but she doesn't want him to get his hopes up. Justin tells Kayla that he loves her and they hug as Steve comes by in a wheelchair and sees them. Kayla then tells Justin that she loves him too and kisses him. Justin suggests they order in and binge watch a series she's been wanting to see. Kayla agrees as Justin then exits the hospital. Steve comes over and greets Kayla. Steve notes that she and Justin looked pretty happy so he's glad she took his advice and stayed with him. Kayla responds that if he wasn't in a wheelchair, she would slap him but since he is, she'll just say "go to Hell".

Rafe sits at his desk in his office at the police station and looks at a framed photo of David then puts one of his toys next to it.

Christian and Zoey meet Orpheus outside in the park. Zoey points out that he's late. Orpheus doesn't like being summoned. Zoey says she only included him as a courtesy since the news she has is really for Christian as it's about David.

John and Marlena tell each other to send their love to Abigail and Brady respectively. John can't believe Brady is in jail for attempted murder while his daughter he just found out about is now missing. Marlena comments on what Eric must be going through. John asks how he's holding up. Marlena says he's struggling and trying to find Sarah to bring back the baby. Marlena thinks that once Rachel is back with her family, everyone can begin to heal. John kisses Marlena and goes to leave but Hope arrives at the door and says she's glad she caught them both as there is something she has to say.

Jennifer doesn't understand what's happening with Abigail and says there's no explanation. Abigail then wakes up so they ask how she's feeling. Abigail starts having hallucinations and imagining Jack as Orpheus standing behind Jennifer.

John tells Hope that they were just on their way out. Hope says she saw the news and asks if there's anything she can do to help about baby Mackenzie. Marlena says no and thanks her for the offer. Hope insists that she'd like to help if there's anything she can do after everything she put them through. John says they have been through that and she apologized. Hope points out that she apologized to John but not Marlena. Hope tells Marlena that she's so sorry for everything she put her through. John assures that they have forgiven Hope and Steve for what they did so maybe it's time they both start forgiving themselves.

Steve asks Kayla why she's so angry. Kayla tells him that he just implied that it was his idea for her to be with Justin. Kayla argues that he has no say in her life or choices and she chose Justin. Kayla tells Steve to turn down his ego so he can realize that she never left Justin.

Justin goes to Rafe's office. Rafe says he was going to call him but figured he was preoccupied and asks about Victor. Justin informs him that Kayla says he's critical but hanging in. Justin asks how Brady is. Rafe notes that he's not saying a lot. Rafe is sorry for everything Justin's family is going through. Justin thanks him but says he's actually hear about Rafe's family. Justin explains that he filed their motion with the court to have Zoey's claim for custody of David thrown out and they should hear something soon. Rafe notes that he did the research to confirm that Zoey is Orpheus' daughter.

Orpheus tells Zoey that he is her father so she will show him respect and include him in everything that has to do with his grandson. Christian asks what has happened with David. Zoey informs him that she told Rafe she's suing for custody. She doesn't know if being Christian's sister or Orpheus' daughter ticked Rafe off more. Orpheus says she is David's aunt and blood wins so it's a done deal. Zoey tells him it's in process. Christian asks if she will get custody. Zoey wishes it was that easy but tells them that Rafe's lawyer just filed a motion to get her custody petition thrown out.

Chad, Jack, and Jennifer watch as Abigail stares at them, imagining that Orpheus has Jennifer with a bomb strapped to her. Abigail yells that she won't let him hurt her family. Chad hugs her trying to keep her calm. Jack and Jennifer try to explain but Abigail continues to freak out, saying she has to save her. Chad assures Abigail that they are all safe and he's not going to let anything happen to her or anyone else. Abigail snaps out of it as Chad promises that she's safe. Abigail apologizes. Jennifer tells her it's okay but Abigail says nothing about this is okay as Chad holds her. Abigail asks what is happening to her. Chad repeats that he doesn't know but they are going to find out. Marlena arrives so Jennifer tells her that they need her help.

Christian argues that Rafe can't get Zoey's custody petition thrown out. Zoey says he can try. Christian says he can't keep his son away from them but if this is how he wants to play it, he'll be sorry. Orpheus points out how it turned out when Jordan tried to get between Christian and his kid. Zoey tells Christian to get it together or he could lose David forever if he does something stupid. Zoey encourages him to trust the system and go through the courts. Orpheus complains about stand around, waiting, and doing nothing in hopes that Justin doesn't beat her in court.

Justin tells Rafe that Zoey being David's blood relative changes things. Rafe questions why when she's just an aunt and her brother is a murderer while her father is Orpheus. Rafe asks what judge in their right mind would give her custody. Justin doesn't think who her brother or father are is relevant. Rafe asks why not when they are criminals. Justin points out that people could say the same thing about Rafe's family.

Steve apologizes to Kayla as he didn't mean to imply she wasn't following her heart. Steve says he was just trying to say that he thinks she's better off and happier with Justin so he's glad she made the choice that she did. Steve adds that the last thing he wants to do is bring her down so as soon as he hears from the eye specialist, he'll be out of the hospital and out of her life. Kayla decides to go call the specialist to move it along.

Justin points out that Rafe's father is in prison and his sister Gabi was in prison more than once. Rafe argues that he's never been in prison and questions if it's because he's not related to David. Rafe asks Justin if he thinks he's gonna lose this thing. Justin says that Zoey being David's aunt doesn't mean Rafe doesn't have a strong case since he has been his legal guardian for over a year while Jordan did make it clear that he was her choice to raise David. Justin notes that a dead mother's wish can have an effect on a cynical judge so if so, his adoption should sail right through. Rafe and Justin hope so for David's sake. Justin points out David's toy train on Rafe's desk. Rafe wants to be there for all of David's ages. Justin decides to go check in with the courthouse and tells Rafe to hang in there as he exits.

Zoey suggests Orpheus try to not underestimate her. Christian agrees, pointing out that Zoey as a lawyer is the only reason they are free. Orpheus remarks that he's not a fan of trusting a system that's always stacked against them. Zoey reminds him that it was his idea for her to sue for custody. Orpheus says he's reconsidered and he feels it'd be more proactive to grab David and skip town. Zoey questions David growing up on the run and what kind of life is that. Orpheus argues that he'd be with his dad. Zoey points out that Rafe would never stop looking for them and then Christian would lose any chance of being with David ever again. Orpheus gives in and decides they will do it her way for now but warns that taking David and disappearing is always an option. Zoey then gets a text that the decision on Justin's motion to dismiss her claim is in so she has to get to the courthouse.

Steve gets back in his hospital bed and thinks back to Kayla taking care of him when he was in the hospital in the past. Steve states that he does love Kayla which is why he had to let her go because it's the right thing to do. Hope then enters the room. Hope guesses he's not thrilled to see her and tells him to join the club.

Kayla meets with Chad, Jennifer, and Jack to ask how Abigail is. Chad tells her that she had another episode. Jack argues that there has to be something they can do. Jennifer asks if she could be relapsing. Kayla calls it a certain possibility but they have to wait for the test results. Chad notes that it came out of nowhere which scares the hell out of him.

Marlena asks if Abigail had any other breaks from reality since Laura was treating her for her D.I.D. Abigail says she hasn't and she's been taking her meds so she's been great. Marlena points out that even a little stress could trigger her but a combination could be overwhelming. Abigail argues that she hasn't had any triggers. Marlena asks if there's any problems in her marriage. Abigail says it's better than they've ever been and they are really in love. Marlena says she's glad to hear that. Abigail feels that she doesn't believe her. Marlena thinks they have to take her history into account since in the past, she made claims about her illness and saying everything was fine even though it wasn't. Marlena wonders if that's happening here now. Abigail tells her that she's not crazy and she's not lying or hiding a relapse. Abigail says no one cares more about her mental health than she does since she almost lost her family and herself before so she promised to never get there again. Abigail cries that she's been doing everything and she's being honest so she's here trying to figure out what's going on. Abigail declares she can't go through this again and lose her family.

Hope brings Steve a sandwich from the Brady Pub. Steve thanks her and asks how she's doing. Hope says she just went to see John and Marlena to apologize and they forgave her. Steve notes that they forgave him too so he asks why they are still so miserable. Hope mentions that John said it was time they forgive themselves. Hope questions how to forgive herself for trying to kill someone she loves. Steve feels there's no forgiving what he did to Kayla and he knows she resents him for pushing her towards Justin. Steve adds that seeing Kayla happy and safe with a good man is the closest he'll come to forgiving himself.

Kayla is glad that Abigail is in good hands until they sort this out. Kayla gets a call from Steve's eye specialist so she steps away to answer. Jack and Jennifer worry about if Abigail does relapse. Chad talks about throwing Abigail in a psych ward because of Gabi's lies and that nearly destroyed his marriage. Chad declares this time, he's going to trust his wife, wait for the test results, and he's not going to assume anything. Jack asks if he's convinced this is not the D.I.D. Chad says he doesn't know since last time she was ill, she did anything she could to deny it while this time she wants to get better. Marlena comes out and tells them that she didn't have enough time to come to any real conclusion but she didn't see any evidence that she's in danger of relapsing. Chad says knowing what it isn't is a start. Marlena goes to find out about Abigail's test results.

John goes to Rafe's office and questions why they won't let him in to see Brady. Rafe informs him that Brady confessed to stabbing Victor. John questions his motive. Rafe notes that Brady said Victor was trying to keep him from seeing his baby girl. John says that's what he and Marlena were afraid of. John asks if there's any other evidence. Rafe says he's not at liberty to say. John knows how that works and says he's just a father trying to look out for his son. Rafe agrees to do anything he can to help Brady. John picks up the toy train and advises Rafe to do whatever he needs to do to keep Orpheus away from his kid.

Orpheus comments to Christian that Zoey needs an attitude adjustment. Christian assures that they can trust her. Orpheus says not with everything so he reminds Christian that his sister does not need to know. Christian gives him his word that he won't say anything to Zoey about what they did. Zoey then comes back around the corner.

Abigail remains in her hospital bed and imagines Orpheus appearing in front of her, warning her that her whole life is about to blow up. Abigail repeats to herself that it's not real and her vision disappears. Jennifer and Jack come in to check on her. Abigail says she hasn't had any hallucinations for 20 minutes. Jack encourages that they are here to help her get better. Abigail thanks them for being there but reminds them that they have a newspaper to run and she's sure her kids would love to see their grandparents. Jack guesses she's trying to get rid of them. Jennifer suggests Jack stay with Abigail while she goes to spend time with the kids. Abigail insists on Jack going too and says she's okay but her refuses. Jennifer tells her to call as soon as she knows anything which she promises to do. Jennifer asks Jack to take care of Abigail as she exits. Abigail encourages Jack to go but he says he can't do that. Jack says he wasn't here before when she went through this but now he's here and will do whatever it takes to help her get better. Abigail thanks him as Jack hugs her. Chad comes in and reveals that Marlena got the results back from the lab and something definitely isn't normal.

Hope tells Steve about how she keeps apologizing but it's not enough. Steve says she's probably the only person in the world who knows where his head is at because she won't try to convince him that they were victims and that what they did was okay because they weren't in control. Steve adds that Hope understands why he had to let Kayla go and won't get onto him for not fighting for her. Steve shares his sandwich with Hope as Kayla then enters the room.

Justin returns to Rafe's office and informs him that he has bad news as the judge is allowing Zoey's petition for custody to proceed which means Rafe's adoption of David is on hold.

Zoey informs Christian and Orpheus that she won so her custody petition is going forward. Christian hugs her and thanks her while Orpheus remarks that she actually pulled it off. Orpheus tells her not to mess it up and says he has things to do so he'll see them later. Orpheus walks away. Christian tells Zoey that he has to go too but Zoey stops him and notes that they had their heads together then shut up real quick when she got here so she asks what they were talking about.

Marlena and John meet in the town square. John informs her that they wouldn't let him in to see Brady so he can only imagine what he's going through now. Marlena tells him that she's so sorry. Orpheus then arrives and says they are just the pair he was looking for.

Rafe asks Justin now what. Justin says there will be a standard custody battle moving forward so whoever proves to be the better parent wins. Rafe thinks that would be obvious. Justin wants to make it more obvious and find something to show that Zoey is unfit. Rafe bets that family has secrets and declares he will find every one of them to bury Zoey with them.

Christian claims that he and Orpheus were just talking about stuff. Zoey says that's never good. Christian tells her to just let it go but Zoey says she can't do that because she is fighting for custody of his son so he can have a life with him while Rafe will come at her with everything he has to prove she's unfit. Christian calls her practically perfect since she's never done anything wrong. Zoey says there may be nothing in her past that could hurt them but she has to know everything with he and Orpheus so she can be prepared for what they could be hit with. Zoey tells Christian that unless he's prepared to lose his son forever, he needs to tell her what they were talking about. Zoey promises not to tell Orpheus that he told her.

John warns Orpheus to back off. Orpheus says he was just thinking about what they have in common because depending on if Victor survives, both of their sons could be on the hook for murder so maybe they could help one another..

Abigail asks what is not normal and what the test results said. Chad reveals that somebody drugged her.

Kayla informs Steve that the eye specialist called and did not have good news so she's afraid his eye is damaged beyond repair. Steve says it's not like he hasn't been through this before. Kayla then offers his traditional eye patch to him.
