Orpheus shows up at Marlena's door. Marlena assumes he escaped prison and asks how. Orpheus responds that he's picked up a few new tricks.

Christian thanks Zoey for having his back with Ben. Zoey then reveals that's what big sisters do for little brothers. Christian talks about wanting to tell David that he was his son but Ben had his hands around his throat. Zoey encourages that he's out on bail and their dad is free as well with the kidnapping charges dropped. Christian appreciates everything she did to make that happen but he wants his son back more than anything.

Rafe sits with David and talks about how there are all types of families. Rafe tells him that they are family and he is his dad. Rafe explains that when David was born, he had a different dad but he is his dad now and that will never change.

At Julie's Place, Justin declares to Jennifer that he's taking a stand as he made it clear to Kayla how he feels so now it's up to her whether she wants to be with him or with Steve. Jennifer hates this and can't imagine what they are going through right now. Justin admits he thought about stepping aside and making it easier for everyone but Sonny reminded him that he's lucky to have a second chance at happiness so he's going to fight for her. Jennifer encourages that he has every right to. Justin adds that he doesn't intend to pressure Kayla. Justin asks if she believes Kayla loves him. Jennifer says she does but notes that Kayla has a lot of history with Steve. Justin asks if she thinks this is a losing battle for him.

Steve tells Kayla that they really need to talk about what's going on. Kayla agrees and calls the situation painful for everybody. Kayla then announces that she has made a decision. Kayla brings up Steve and Justin both saying they want to fight for her so she intends to make a choice.

Marlena warns Orpheus to leave or else John will escort him back to prison, claiming he's in the next room. Orpheus suggests she call him in then. Marlena's phone rings with a call from John which Orpheus sees and realizes John is not in the next room. Orpheus tells Marlena that it's been too long and suggests they catch up.

Jennifer promises Justin that Kayla did not indicate whether she had made a decision. Justin apologizes for grilling her for answers and says she shouldn't be put in this position. Justin guesses he's just looking for reassurance. Justin acknowledges Kayla and Steve's long history but notes that not all of it is good and they spent a lot of time apart so their marriage wasn't perfect. Justin then blames himself for judging their marriage. Justin gets a call from Rafe and says he'll be right there. Justin tells Jennifer that he has to go see Rafe about David. Justin thanks her for being a good friend. Jennifer says they are family and that is everything. Jennifer wishes it was easier for the three of them.

Steve appreciates Kayla wanting to do what's best for all of them and says she's always looking out for everyone. Kayla says they can't go on like this. Steve responds that is why he's made a decision of his own as he then declares he has to let her go.

Christian tells Zoey that he didn't mean to sound ungrateful as he couldn't haved asked for a better lawyer than her but every day that David spends with Rafe is an opportunity for them to grow closer. Zoey assures that she's working as hard and as fast as she can to put David back in his arms. Christian comments that she was always looking out for him when they were growing up. He calls her a great lawyer and a great mom. He argues that their kids are cousins so they should know what it means to be a family even if they never did. Zoey assures him that she is going to get his son back.

Rafe tells David that everything he told him about Evan/Christian was confusing but all he has to understand is that they are a family now and that's never going to change as he hugs him.

Marlena tells Orpheus that she has nothing to say to him and remembers him trying to burn her and Kayla to death. Orpheus calls that water under the bridge. Marlena argues that he terrorized the whole town and turned his son into a criminal. Marlena talks about his son preying on Sonny, killing a woman, and being willing to see Ben executed for his own crime. Orpheus says he knows what his kid has done but blames Marlena for it.

Jack joins Jennifer at Julie's Place. She thanks him for meeting her despite things being crazy at the newspaper. Jack asks why she sounded so down. Jennifer tells him about being at the hospital with Kayla and how she was talking about making this decision. Jennifer repeats that she hates this for all three of them. Jennifer informs Jack that Kayla has made her decision and is sharing it with Steve as they speak.

Kayla tells Steve that this is such a turn around. Steve admits he was being selfish before but he loves her and he just wants what is best for her which he thinks is to be with Justin. Kayla calls this all so sudden as he was just saying he was going to fight for her but now he's pushing her to another man. Kayla asks where this is coming from. Steve responds that he found out that he kidnapped her, held her hostage, and almost gassed her to death. Kayla questions who told him that. Steve flashes back to Justin telling him and John confirming it. Steve only tells her that John confirmed all the horrible things he did to her and when he heard that, he realized he couldn't expect her to be with a man who tried to kill him. Steve declares that he's made his decision and he won't change his mind that it has to be over.

Justin goes to see Rafe, who explains to Justin that Christian is out on bail because Orpheus took full responsibility for kidnapping David but Orpheus gets off because the ISA owed him one. Rafe calls it unbelieveable while Justin calls it a travesty of justice. Rafe says they can fight that later but right now he needs Justin to help keep these psychopaths away from his child. Justin asks where Orpheus is now. Rafe says he doesn't know but he broke in earlier while he was gone. Justin says he'll use that to try to get a restraining order. Justin warns that until Rafe legally becomes David's father, he might not be able to keep Orpheus and Christian away from him. Rafe says that's why he needs Justin to fast track the adoption since the only thing standing in his way before was Evan's background check. Justin says they now know Evan was a killer and a fraud so when he presents that to a judge, he can't imagine a child being awarded to one of them. Rafe says he tried to explain to David earlier that he's his dad but he doesn't know how much he understands. Justin encourages that he understands Rafe loves him. Rafe worries that it doesn't mean a thing to the law until this adoption process goes through and declares he cannot have anyone take David from him ever again.

Christian wishes he was able to control his temper when he found Jordan in Salem. Zoey insists that killing her was an accident and that she will prove that. Christian sometimes wishes he listened to their dad and took off with David when he had the chance. Zoey is glad he didn't because if he was on the run, she wouldn't get to see them again. Christian says he would hate that but at least he would have his son.

Marlena questions Orpheus blaming her for what happened to Christian. Orpheus argues that things could have turned out differently if she raised his children like he asked. Marlena argues that she's not their mother so it was his responsibility to raise his children. Orpheus blames John for stealing his wife Rebecca from him so he stole Marlena from him. John arrives and says he just got word from the police. Marlena wants John to call them to have Orpheus taken back in. Orpheus laughs off going back to prison. John admits there is nothing they can do because all charges against Orpheus have been dropped.

Steve talks about being horrible to Kayla when he came back to Salem. Kayla insists that she doesn't blame him for any of it but Steve blames himself, saying he never would have been in that position if he came home when she called like he should have. Kayla blames herself for going behind his back with Stefan to get the Bionic Eye, leading to his arrest. Steve says he can still hear the pain and sadness in her voice when she begged him to come home and he didn't. Steve declares that he did that which is why she can't be with him anymore.

John and Marlena talk about the ISA letting Orpheus go. Marlena says Orpheus can't be trusted. Orpheus is sure they will have a lot of opportunities to see each other now that he's free and living in Salem. Marlena questions how he can live in a place where everybody despises him. Orpheus responds that his grandson lives here. John warns him not to come near his wife. Orpheus remarks that many have tried to kill him but none have succeeded. John threatens to end that streak now if he doesn't get out of his house. Orpheus says goodbye to Marlena for now but not forever as he exits. John hugs Marlena as she breaks down crying.

Justin tells Rafe that he will file restraining orders and do his best to expedite David's adoption. Rafe thanks him, knowing it's a lot to ask with all he's going through right now. Rafe asks how Steve is. Justin informs him that the microchip was removed and he got his memory back but he's not sure what that means for he and Kayla. Rafe says he's friends with all of them so he doesn't know what to say. Justin feels he and Kayla just started their love story and he plans to fight to keep it going.

Jack tells Jennifer that Justin has to be prepared for the worst, knowing the history Kayla shares with Steve. Jennifer brings up that Justin pointed out all their history wasn't good. Jack relates the same to he and Jennifer. Jennifer is sure Kayla can get past what Steve done and thinks Kayla is leaning towards Steve.

Kayla questions Steve thinking she belongs with Justin. Steve calls Justin a good man who is stable and supportive. Steve wants her to have a life with Justin that she can't have with him. Kayla asks when he became an expert on what she needs and deserves. Kayla asks if she has a say in any of this.

Jack and Jennifer talk about how there can always be twists and turns. Jack mentions having news that is not so good. Jack informs Jennifer that Christian has been released back to the street and so has his father.

John tells Marlena that he's so sorry about Orpheus showing up. Marlena explains that Orpheus blamed her for what happened to Christian. John blames it on Orpheus being his father. Marlena mentions Christian having a sister and hopes she turned out better.

Zoey knows Christian is not the monster people are making him out to be and that he really loved Jordan. Zoey tells him that she loves him and hugs him. Zoey says they are family so she will always be there for him. He points out that she was there for their dad too. Zoey says she did what she had to do. Christian knows she has issues with Orpheus but says he was there when he really needed him. Zoey says she does love their dad but they've been around him enough to know he always has his own agenda. Orpheus that appears around the corner and asks if she has a problem with that.

Kayla complains to Steve that she is the one who should decide who she wants to share her life with. Steve argues that he's doing this for her and that Justin will always be sure she is safe and happy. Kayla admits she did not expect this. Steve says that she and Justin had a good thing going before he came back and wreaked havoc on their lives so he wants her to forget about him and go back to being happy. Steve declares that he will never try to stop her.

Zoey asks if Orpheus denies having his own agenda. Orpheus jokes about being on the witness stand. He admits he sometimes makes plans in his own interest but says they never take precedence over the needs of his children. Orpheus says he's gone above and beyond to help Christian get his son back because David needs to be with his father. Christian mentions trying to tell him this morning but then Ben tried to strangle him. Christian complains that he's just frustrated that he can't be with David. Orpheus notes that Rafe wouldn't let him near him either. Zoey gets a text that Rafe's lawyer has filed restraining orders against them both. Orpheus felt Rafe would take action so he declares they will move forward with their counter plan. Zoey tells him that she's on it and walks away.

Jack tells Jennifer about Orpheus being let go and given immunity for all his past charges. Jennifer calls him a sadist who shot JJ and strapped a bomb to her until Hope diffused it. Jennifer mentions Hope finding out about pushing her off the balcony and all the terrible things that Gina did. Jack wishes those memories could be removed. Jennifer says she feels so lucky to have Jack back and says she couldn't love him any more. Jack says he loves her too with all his heart as he hugs her.

Zoey goes to see Rafe and brings up the restraining orders. Rafe adds that his lawyer is also moving full speed ahead to finalize his adoption of David. Zoey argues that David has a father. Rafe calls him a murderer. Zoey states that David belongs with his family so she will sue for custody. Rafe tells her that she's wasting her time because that will never happen.

Kayla complains that she's not surprised that Steve is trying to make decisions for her life like he did during their entire marriage. Kayla says maybe Steve hasn't changed but she has and she's done with it. Kayla declares that he's not making decisions for her anymore because she has her own mind so she will do whatever she wants with whoever. Kayla tells Steve to go to Hell and storms out of the room.

Kayla sits outside the Pub wiping tears from her face. Justin walks by and asks why she's crying.

Jennifer tells Jack that she told Hope to stop blaming herself for what Gina did. Jennifer says she will be there to support her any way she can. Jack asks her not to go running around town because he wants to keep her in sight with Orpheus back in town. Jennifer agrees to stay close to Jack as they kiss.

Marlena asks John if everybody knows that Orpheus is back. John says the Spectator has the story so they will know soon enough but just in case, he's going to give Steve a heads up himself. John mentions Steve struggling. Marlena says it will be even more complicated now with Orpheus back. John declares that if Stefano couldn't break them, no one can. John says he's always here to protect her as he hugs her.

Rafe questions why Zoey thinks that a judge would give custody to Christian or Orpheus when they are criminals. Zoey reveals that she isn't suing on their behalf, but for herself which Rafe questions. Zoey then informs Rafe that she isn't just Christian's attorney, she is his sister.

Christian hopes Orpheus doesn't think that Zoey is not loyal to him. Orpheus understands that she is really smart. Christian says he's so grateful for that right now. Orpheus says it's good to have a lawyer as smart as her in the family but some things need to stay between them. Orpheus orders Christian to keep it to himself because no one needs to know what they did...
