Brady joins Kristen at the grave site and hugs her. She asks how he knew she was there. Brady says he talked to John. Kristen tries to explain what happened at the hospital and says now she'll never hold another baby as long as she lives since they don't want her to volunteer anymore. Brady stops her and says that's not true.

Steve questions Kayla leaving him. Kayla cries that he signed the divorce papers. Steve argues that now she knows that wasn't him and he would never leave her in a million years. Kayla says at the time she was so heartbroken. Steve reminds her that he swore to never break her heart again. Kayla thought he went back on his word and she was so miserable. Kayla explains that she wasn't looking for somebody new but it just happened and changed everything for her. Steve asks who it is. Kayla reveals that it's Justin.

Xander tells Sarah that it's time for her to say I do. Sarah pulls away and asks how she could marry him after what he did. Xander asks what she's saying and what he did. Sarah thinks he knows. Xander swears he doesn't. Sarah screams that he let her fall in love with a baby that he knew was not hers.

At Julie's Place, Jack finishes a phone call with John and then informs Jennifer, Doug, and Julie that Steve is awake but has no memory of who he is. Julie talks about Jennifer and Jack dealing with that before. Jack hugs Jennifer and says that's over thanks to her. Doug points out that Hope was the same but has her memory back now so maybe Steve's will be temporary too. Jennifer wants to go to the hospital so she and Jack exit.

Steve questions Kayla and Justin being together now. Steve asks what about Adrienne and if they split up again. Steve questions when this will make sense because he has loved her for 30 years and he knows she would never have an affair with Adrienne's husband. Kayla confirms they would never since Adrienne was the love of Justin's life. Steve asks what she means by "was". Kayla informs him that she's sorry but Adrienne died which shocks Steve.

Xander tells Sarah that all she has to do is say "I do" and they can work it all out after. Sarah argues that they are going to work it out now. Justin offers to step out. Xander argues that Sarah has been too much and is just exhausted and confused. Sarah yells at him to shut up because she knows the truth. Sarah reveals that Eric told her everything. Xander asks what that means. Sarah confirms that she knows her baby died the night she was born and the baby she has grown to love is not her daughter, but Brady and Kristen's daughter.

Kristen thanks Brady for trying to make her feel better and apologizes for this obsession of hers. Kristen asks how she is supposed to accept that their Rachel is dead. Brady responds that she doesn't have to. Brady then informs Kristen that their daughter is alive. Kristen knows he wouldn't say that unless he really believed it was true and questions how he knows that. Brady explains that the night Rachel was born, they were told that she was dead but they were wrong. Brady says the hospital staff didn't know the truth because a baby died that night but it wasn't theirs so the girl in the grave is not their little girl. Kristen asks whose baby it is. Brady confirms it's Eric and Sarah's.

Justin doesn't know exactly what's going on but he's pretty sure there is not going to be a wedding which Sarah confirms. Justin tells her that he's sorry and offers to do anything he can. Sarah thanks him and tells him to just go because she needs to speak to Xander alone so Justin exits. Xander wants to explain but Sarah asks how he can. Sarah argues that he lied to her about the most important person in her life and let her think the baby was hers when she's not. Sarah asks how he could do something like that. Xander responds that he did it for her.

Steve cries that Adrienne can't be dead and asks if her cancer came back. Kayla informs him that it was a car accident. Steve wants to know what happened. Kayla explains that Sarah went in to labor and Adrienne was driving her to the hospital but somebody veered into their lane so Adrienne's car hit a tree. Kayla adds that she was brought to the hospital but the injuries were too severe to save her. Steve breaks down crying as Kayla hugs him and says she's so sorry. Steve asks when this happened. Kayla tells him it was almost a year ago on Mother's Day. Steve cries that he should've been here. Kayla knows how he feels but there was nothing he could do. Steve repeats that he should've been here but now she's gone. Steve talks about loving his sister and now he's never going to see her again. Jack and Jennifer enter the room. Kayla informs them that Steve's amnesia is gone and he has his memory back. Jennifer hugs him and says that's so wonderful. Jack questions what's going on. Kayla informs him that she had to tell him about Adrienne. Jack hugs Steve as he cries that he can't believe their sister is gone.

Kristen asks how Brady found out and if he has any proof. Brady reminds her about Rachel's birth mark she talked about and how Eric and Sarah's baby had that exact same birth mark. Kristen says it could be a coincidence but Brady assures it's not. Brady reveals he has DNA results in his pocket to prove it. Kristen is afraid to believe it. Brady says he couldn't believe it either. Kristen asks about the DNA test. Brady explains that Nicole ran the test because she got suspicious. Brady shows Kristen the test results. Kristen says no wonder she was so drawn to her and cries that she is their baby and alive as they hug. Eric and Nicole then arrive.

Sarah questions Xander saying he did it for her. Sarah says her baby died and he didn't tell her. Xander reminds her of what it was like after the accident and he was in a panic as he had to deliver her baby. Xander says they brought her in to this world. Sarah remembers her not crying at first and guesses it was a head injury from the accident. Xander says he loved her like his own and he was so happy. Xander says he went to the hospital sure that everything was going to be alright and he assumed the exam was all routine. Sarah questions when he found out he was wrong. Xander admits he looked in on the doctor and knew she wasn't right then the baby had a seizure. Sarah breaks down crying as Xander explains that the baby stopped breathing after that and they told him there was nothing they could do. Sarah can't believe he saw her die and didn't tell her. Xander said he would've rather died himself than let Sarah lose her. Xander says he wanted to come up with a way to stop her from feeling that pain. Sarah screams that he gave her someone else's baby and let her love her so much. Sarah talks about seeing her through cancer and being terrified that she could lose her. Sarah asks if Xander ever thought they would find out the truth. Xander thought he could handle it because he loves her so much. Sarah asks how he could say that when he's hurt her more than she's ever been hurt in her life.

Steve talks to Jack about Adrienne's death. Jack says he should've known something was seriously wrong when Steve didn't come to her funeral. Steve says he couldn't have known a microchip was put in his brain. Jack says Dr. Rolf is the reason he's here but it never occurred to him what he would go through to bring Stefano back. Steve says he heard he did some pretty bad things. Jack says they all know it wasn't him as he wouldn't have been that hurtful. Steve informs Jack that before all this happened, he made a bad decision trying to be noble for his country. Steve felt he was his responsibility to make things right when his eye was hacked but he should've made Kayla his priority. Steve feels if he came back sooner, this nightmare would not have happened and Kayla never would have left him.

Jennifer talks to Kayla about knowing how Steve feels in losing all that time and then learning someone you loved died. Jennifer asks what's ahead for her and Steve now. Kayla says up until now she was just his doctor and got him through the surgery then he didn't remember who he was so she felt the best treatment was for him to remember how much they loved each other. Kayla explains that she told Steve their story and recited their vows from their wedding on the boat. Jennifer asks if that's what brought his memory back. Kayla doesn't know if it was just a coincidence. Jennifer assures that Steve remembers their great love. Jennifer asks if he knows about Justin which she confirms. Jennifer guesses it has to be so difficult for Steve and Justin. Kayla says it's not that Justin doesn't want Steve back but that this changes everything. Kayla adds that she and Justin have gotten so close through such sad times and she didn't think she would fall in love again but she has deeply. Justin then arrives at the hospital.

Brady hugs Eric. Kristen doesn't know what to say but tells Eric that she's so sorry and she will pray for him. Eric thanks them. Kristen knows Nicole hates her guts for good reason but she uncovered the truth with the DNA results so she thanks her so much. Brady suggests giving Eric and Nicole some privacy so he and Kristen exit the grave site.

Xander knows Sarah is still in shock but all he can say is that he was trying to protect her as he's never loved anyone the way he loves her. Sarah asks if he thinks that's love when he lied to her about the most important person in her life. Sarah calls him delusional. Xander didn't want her to lose her child. Sarah complains that he let Brady and Kristen think their child is dead and calls it a classic move from the Kiriakis family goon. Sarah adds that it didn't work and these are the last hours she gets to have with the baby she thought was hers. Xander says she doesn't know that. Sarah guesses Eric is telling Brady and Kristen now so they will want their daughter. Sarah asks how she's supposed to let her go. Xander suggests they can take the baby, run away, and never come back.

Doug encourages Julie that Steve will get his memory just like Hope did. Doug asks if she's worried about something else. Julie says everybody in Salem has always thought of Steve and Kayla as a legendary love story like them but time passes and people change. Julie assures nothing could ever change how she feels about him but she's concerned about Justin.

Justin notes that Kayla and Jennifer seem to be having a serious conversation. Kayla informs him that Steve regained his memory. Justin calls that amazing. Jennifer decides she will go tell Doug and Julie in person so she exits the hospital. Kayla tells Justin that there is more as she informs him that she told Steve about Adrienne and it hit him pretty hard. Justin knows they were very close and that breaking the news must have been awful for her. Kayla calls it one of the hardest things she's ever had to do since everybody loved Adrienne but the people who loved her most were Justin, Sonny, and Steve.

Jack insists it wasn't Steve's fault he had to leave town. Steve says it was his fault that he didn't come back sooner. Steve tells him that he loves Kayla more than anything but instead of running back to her, he tried to be a hero. Jack understands he did what he thought he had to do. Jack talks about Jennifer getting mad at him but never giving up on him. Steve says Kayla wouldn't give up on him either if she knew what had happened. Steve notes that Kayla did the surgery that brought him back but look what he did to her life. Steve talks about Kayla thinking he signed the divorce papers so she was done and she moved on. Steve declares maybe Kayla likes her new life too much to give up and maybe she's over him.

Xander tells Sarah that they could go anywhere in the world with Mickie. Sarah argues that her name isn't Mickie, it's Rachel. Xander insists that they could do this and disappear for the rest of their lives before Brady and Kristen show up to try to take the baby away. Sarah calls him crazy to think she would go anywhere with him. Sarah declares that she never wants to see him again for as long as she lives.

Justin guesses Kayla must be exhausted so he came to take her home and make her dinner but he doesn't want to put any pressure on her. Kayla says that would be wonderful. Justin tells her if she needs any backup, he's here, but if she needs to stay with Steve, he understands

Jack questions Steve really thinking Kayla has had it with him. Steve responds that she's with Justin now and he gets that Justin is everything he's not. Jack notes that Justin was a wreck when Adrienne was killed. Jack talks about how Kayla and Justin helped each other. Steve understands they turned to each other when he was gone but now he's back.

Eric stands over the grave and talks about how the one day with his baby was the greatest day and he will miss her until the day he dies but he will always love her.

Brady and Kristen return to their room at the Salem Inn. Kristen wants to go get their baby. Brady says they can't do that because Eric and Sarah just found out the truth so they need time to say goodbye as they've been living with Rachel as if she was their daughter and just found out they don't have a daughter. Brady calls it unfair so they need to at least give them one more night with her.

Xander argues that Sarah can't say she never wants to see him again after everything they've been through together. Xander asks for a chance. Sarah tells him to get out of her face so she can say goodbye to her baby. Xander tries to say he loves her so much but Sarah says she doesn't love him. Sarah declares she is taking the baby upstairs to get her ready for bed and if Xander is still here when she comes back, she will call the police to have him arrested.

Steve tells Jack that Kayla got him out of the black hole Stefano put him in by talking to him. Steve says he was sure she still loved him and they were still married but then she told him about her and Justin so he guesses it won't be that simple. Jack says not that simple is different from impossible. Steve feels it might be too late for them as this time he might have lost her for good.

Kayla tells Justin that it's not that she doesn't want to go home with him. Justin gets that she's still worried about Steve after just saving his life and she can't leave him right now so he will go. Kayla doesn't know what to say. Justin tells her that she knows where to find him if she needs him. Justin kisses her and goes to leave the hospital but Kayla stops him.

Sarah sits in her room with baby Rachel, crying that she's supposed to say goodbye to her but she doesn't know how to let her go.

Kristen talks to Brady about waiting so long to hold their baby in her arms. Brady explains that Eric and Sarah have just started grieving but he and Kristen get to stop because they have a beautiful future ahead of them. Kristen doesn't understand how the hospital could make such a terrible mistake. Brady notes that he didn't tell her it wasn't a mistake, it was Xander.

Xander remains in the living room as Eric walks in.
