Jennifer goes to the hospital where she finds that Justin has fallen asleep in a chair. She wakes him up and asks if he's been there all night. Justin says he didn't want to leave Kayla while she's worried about Steve.

Kayla sits at Steve's side in his hospital room. Kayla thinks back to the surgery and cutting off the microchip. Kayla says she knows it was a huge risk but she didn't see any other way as she pleads for Steve to come back to them. Jack enters the room and asks if there's been any change. Kayla says he hasn't regained consciousness. Jack asks what that means but Kayla doesn't know as he should've woken up by now.

Xander wakes up from a nightmare about Sarah telling him that she can't marry him. Xander realizes Sarah is not in bed and calls out to her asking where she is.

Eric tells Nicole that he didn't get any sleep as he kept thinking how Sarah would react when he tells her that Mickie is not their child. Nicole wishes she could do something to make it easier on him. Eric says he should've told Sarah the truth last night but she needs to know that Xander has been deceiving her about Mickie. Eric declares that she has to know the truth before she marries Xander. Nicole points out that the wedding is today so they don't have a lot of time and they need to get back over there. There's a knock at the door so Eric wonders if that's Sarah now but it's Roman. Roman apologizes for dropping in without calling. Eric asks what's going on. Roman says he was just a little worried since he didn't hear from Eric went to New York. They explain that Nicole came back just as Eric was about to leave. Roman guesses everything is okay between them then.

Xander gets out of bed and finds a note from Sarah, saying there was something important that she had to do before she could marry him.

Sarah goes to the prison to visit Maggie. Maggie points out that it's her wedding day so she should be home getting ready. Sarah says she needed to come here first so Maggie could see her in her dress. Maggie calls it so beautiful.

Jack tells Kayla that it seems to him that it would take awhile for Steve to wake up from that kind of surgery. Kayla explains that she cut through his frontal lobe and worries that she could have botched something. Jack calls that unlikely since she's a highly experienced surgeon. Kayla knew Dr. Rolf wouldn't make it easy for her to destroy his idol. Kayla tells Jack that she planned to stop the surgery but the chip started to count down to self destruct so she decided to take it out. Kayla wonders if she should've waited and then Steve wouldn't be in this position. Jack encourages that she did the best she could but Kayla worries that her best wasn't good enough and she could have damaged Steve for good.

Xander goes to the living room and greets Victor, asking if he needed him for something. Victor says he was just wondering when he'd be getting up and getting ready to tie the knot. Victor asks where Sarah is. Xander says he didn't know as he woke up and she was gone which was alarming but he found a note telling him that she went to see her mom which relieved him. Victor asks why he was relieved. Xander explains that Eric and Nicole came by last night to talk to Sarah but she was asleep and there was an urgency in their tone. Xander says they made up a lame excuse which made him suspicious. Xander hopes he's wrong but something about them gave him a feeling that they know about the baby switch.

Eric tells Roman that everything is good between he and Nicole as they had a miscommunication but it's all good now. Roman brings up Eric being worried about why Nicole went to New York. Nicole assures that they are fine and couldn't be happier. Roman decides he will go to the hospital to check on Steve then. Eric tells him to give Kayla his love. Roman is glad they are alright as he then exits. Eric hates keeping secrets from his dad about Mickie but Sarah needs to know first then they have to tell Brady and Kristen the truth. Nicole says they will do it together as she is here for him every step of the way. Eric picks up one of Mickie's toys. Nicole encourages that she will still be part of his life. Nicole says she's so sorry as she knows how painful this is for him. Eric responds that it's not him he's worried about, but Sarah, as he wonders how to tell her that their baby is gone. Nicole hugs him as he holds back tears.

Maggie tells Sarah that she will be the most beautiful bride. Sarah says she's so happy as she never imagined she'd be marrying Xander but she loves him so much and so does her daughter. Maggie says Xander surprised them all. Sarah wishes she could be at the wedding. Maggie says she'll be there in spirit. Sarah asks if they can ask the warden to let Maggie have a few hours. Maggie says she wants to be part of her special day but she doesn't deserve any special treatment. Maggie talks about thinking about Adrienne every day and her heart aches knowing she'd be alive if she didn't drive drunk. Maggie adds that Sarah and her granddaughter could've been killed too. Maggie declares that she's where she belongs and where she's going to stay.

Justin tells Jennifer that he and Jack have had good conversations lately. Justin says it's no secret that he's in a precarious position right now but Jack reminded him not to get ahead of himself. Justin repeats that what he and Kayla have could never compare to what she has with Steve. Jennifer says she's so sorry as she can't imagine what he's going through right now. Justin feels terrible because he knows how selfish it sounds but he's worried that if the real Steve wakes up, it will be the beginning of the end for him and Kayla.

Jack tells Kayla not to do this to herself as she couldn't leave the microchip in. Kayla admits she couldn't tolerate Stefano for another minute. Jack encourages that she had to end the nightmare. Kayla feels she could've waited before doing it herself. Jack assures that she did what had to be done. Jack says they both know Steve would not have wanted to live like that. Jack tells her to stop doubting her decision. Jack decides he will go fill in Jennifer and he'll be back to check on her later. Kayla thanks him as he exits. Kayla sits back with Steve and says she needs him to wake up.

Victor questions Xander seeming like this is no big deal and says if Eric and Nicole know they switched the babies then they are both screwed. Victor asks why he's worried since Nicole saw the DNA test he tampered with. Xander says he just had a moment of panic that he shouldn't have shared but they are fine. Xander believes Nicole is done playing detective once and for all. Victor says she better be. Victor declares that if Maggie ever finds out that her drunk driving caused the death of her grandchild, she'd never be the same. Xander agrees that Maggie and Sarah can never find out because it would destroy them both.

Eric tells Nicole that she's been so amazing through all of this and she went above and beyond to find out the truth. Nicole is still sorry that it turned out this way and her investigation will tear that little girl from his arms. Eric hopes they can find Sarah to talk to her alone.

Sarah cries that she hates that Maggie won't be at the wedding but she respects her wishes. Maggie says she will try to focus on the future and that is her, Xander, and Mickie. Maggie mentions not being able to give her something borrowed or blue so she gives her something new she made in the art crafts room. Sarah tells her it's perfect and they hug as they both cry.

Jennifer tells Justin that they don't know what's going to happen with Steve but they should take Jack's advice and not get ahead of themselves. Jack comes out and tells them there has been no change. Jack talks about Kayla blaming herself and worrying that she screwed up the surgery. Justin decides he will go talk to her. Jennifer tells Jack that she feels so bad for them right now. Jack responds that if Steve comes back, someone is definitely going to get hurt.

Justin enters Steve's hospital room and says he heard there's been no change. Kayla notes that his vitals are fine but it's hard to tell if there's any brain activity. Justin encourages her not to beat herself up. Kayla says Jack already gave her a stern talking to. Justin says she did all she could and he's sorry she's going through this. Kayla questions if he is or if this is what he really wanted.

Jennifer talks to Jack about how Kayla thought Steve abandoned her and their children all this time. Jennifer says Kayla made the brave choice to move on with Justin but now she's praying for the love of her life to come back. Jack says if he does, she can't turn her back on him. Jennifer argues that she can't turn her back on Justin when he's been so kind, loving, and supportive.

Justin questions how Kayla can say that and says of course this isn't what he wants, arguing that Steve is his brother in law and been through hell. Kayla apologizes and says she didn't mean it as she's just so exhausted and stressed so she took it out on him. Justin hugs her and says he gets it. Justin tells her that he loves her and he's here for her no matter what.

Xander tells Victor that Sarah may not know the truth about her baby but he does so it's a little unsettling to say his vows to her with this big secret between them. Victor mocks him going soft and says the old Xander was easier to deal with. Xander states that Sarah made him want to be a better man. Xander says he has to protect Sarah from the pain of knowing her baby died. Victor says he's done that so he can walk down the aisle and not look back. Xander questions living with this secret forever. Victor tells him that if he tells her truth, she loses Mackenzie and the relationship with her mother and she'll hate his guts. Xander can't imagine his life without Sarah now. Victor hopes he doesn't have to. Victor declares that he's lost his wife so Xander should be happy he can still have his.

Eric and Nicole go to the Kiriakis Mansion. As they prepare to head inside, Sarah arrives and questions what they are doing here. Eric tells her that he needs to talk to her now.

Roman goes to the hospital and asks Jennifer and Jack if there's an update on Steve. Jennifer says there's no change. Jack informs him that Justin and Kayla are both in with Steve now. Roman gets a call and says he's going to take this then go see Kayla.

Justin gets a phone alert that he has to go officiate Sarah and Xander's wedding. Kayla questions him agreeing to do that. Justin says it was reluctantly but he will tell them they have to find someone else. Kayla tells him after all Sarah has been through, he needs to be there for her. Justin says he'll be back right after the ceremony. Kayla apologizes for snapping at him. Justin says it's already forgotten and he'll see her soon. Justin kisses her and then exits the room. Kayla tells Steve that a lot of people are going crazy waiting for him as she pleads for him to wake up. Roman enters the room and asks Kayla how she's doing. Kayla cries that she's not good as Roman hugs her.

Xander agrees with Victor that he should be grateful for what he has and focus on how incredibly lucky he is to be marrying the woman of his dreams. Xander asks if Victor will be coming to the wedding. Victor says last time he came to a wedding in this house, he was traumatized as he walked in to find Sonny marrying Leo Stark. Xander says that was blackmail while this is love. Victor comments that nobody loves Sarah more than Maggie so he's sure she's heartbroken not to be here today. Victor decides his place is at Maggie's side. Xander decides he should get ready and says to tell Maggie they will miss her. Victor stops him and says he knows he hasn't been the best uncle to him the last few years but he's proven that he's a true Kiriakis and he's very proud of that. Xander says that means the world to him. Victor appreciates the help he's given him with Sarah and Maggie. Victor gives him an old coin from his father, who gave one to the children he loved on their wedding day. Victor says if Xander's father was here, he'd want him to have one. Xander thanks him. Victor tells him to go get ready for his wedding day so Xander then exits the room.

Sarah asks Eric if this can wait as she's about to get married. Eric tells her it's very important. Sarah knows he's not a fan of Xander but she loves him and wouldn't be marrying him if she didn't. Eric says it's not about that. Nicole questions Xander not telling her that they came by last night. Sarah explains that she left before he woke up and asks Eric what's going on. Eric tells her it's about Mickie and what he's about to say is very difficult and painful. Eric adds that he prayed it wasn't the truth.

Jack tells Jennifer that if Steve wakes up, he's going to have to deal with so much. Jack talks about what if Steve is held responsible for Stefano's crimes or if Dr. Rolf lies in court. Jennifer stops him and reminds him not to get ahead of himself. Jennifer says Steve will realize how much he's missed which she relates to.

Roman asks Kayla what he can do to help. Kayla says nobody can do anything except pray that Steve wakes up and that her reckless decision didn't cause permanent damage. Roman assures that she did what she had to do to stop Stefano from wreaking havoc so she had no choice. Kayla appreciates everyone saying that but she doesn't know how she's going to look at her children or live with herself if she's the reason Steve doesn't come back.

Victor goes to the prison to visit Maggie. She asks if everything is alright. Victor says everything is fine. Maggie questions him not being at Sarah and Xander's wedding. Victor responds that he wants to be with her.

Xander goes to his room to get dressed and looks at a photo of he and Sarah with Mickie as he thinks back to Victor's warnings of what would happen if he told her the truth.

Sarah tells Eric to just tell her what's going on. Eric asks Nicole if he can speak to Sarah alone. Nicole tells Eric that she loves him and walks away. Sarah says Eric is scaring her and asks what's going on. Eric says he will tell her, but not here.

Kayla tells Steve that everyone who loves him is waiting to welcome him back as she pleads for him to come home. Steve then wakes up.

Maggie thanks Victor for coming. Victor says there's no place he'd rather be. Maggie tells him about Sarah's visit and how she's so in love. Victor tells her that Xander loves her daughter. Maggie admits she wasn't sure about him at first but now she's certain that he's the right one. Victor relates to her being the one for him. Maggie says Xander makes her daughter very happy so she hopes it lasts forever.

Xander continues getting dressed and tells himself that Victor is right that Sarah can never ever find out the truth...

Eric brings Sarah to his apartment. Sarah wants to know what's going on with their daughter. Eric sits her down and says that's the thing as he reveals to her that Mickie is not their daughter.
