At the hospital, Tony informs Kristen that Steve/Stefano has been taken in for an MRI as they try to find the microchip that turned Steve Johnson in to their father.

At the DiMera Mansion, Kate talks to the portrait of Stefano and says he was always the master manipulator and now Marlena is fighting to find herself again while he knew she loved Chad like a son but he brainwashed him in to trying to kill her. Chad then enters the room with a knife in his hand.

Abe exits the Brady Pub and runs into Eric. Eric says he considers Abe to be one of Nicole's closest friends and asks if he knows the real reason Nicole went to New York. Abe isn't sure what he means. Eric brings up hearing Nicole say she didn't want him to know something and he thinks it's really about something else. Abe thinks back to giving Nicole the address to find Dr. Raynor. Eric tells Abe that he needs to tell him if something important is going on with Nicole.

Nicole threatens to call the medical board or the police. Dr. Raynor stops her and agrees to tell her the truth. She then admits that Sarah and Eric's baby died last Mother's Day. Nicole says she was afraid of this and asks if the baby that Eric and Sarah have been raising all this time belongs to Kristen DiMera and Brady Black which Dr. Raynor confirms.

Brady holds Mickie and notices the birth mark on her neck as he remembers Kristen mentioning the birth mark being on Rachel. Brady tells himself it can't be. John enters the room and tells him that Marlena is still in surgery while Kayla and Sarah are watching Dr. Rolf to make sure he removes the chip. Brady praises John for getting Marlena back on his own. John asks where Eric is. Brady says he had to leave on something about Nicole.

Eric tells Abe that he can't take any more secrets. Abe questions what he thinks he knows. Eric says whatever Nicole is hiding isn't about Brandon and guesses it has something to do with those hospital results.

Nicole asks Dr. Raynor to tell her everything that led up to the babies being switched. Dr. Raynor recalls last Mother's Day when Sarah gave birth on the side of the road after a car accident while she delivered Kristen's baby that same night. Raynor confirms baby Rachel made it into the world safely and was taken to the nursery where Sarah's baby Mackenzie was as well. She adds that while she was examining, Victor and Xander walked in. Raynor says she performed CPR on Mackenzie and did everything she could but she wasn't able to save her so she left Victor and Xander in the nursery to say goodbye which must have been when they came up with the idea to switch the babies. Nicole can't believe it. Dr. Raynor says when she realized what they had done and wanted her to do, she was horrified because Sarah was her friend. Nicole questions why she didn't say anything. Raynor admits Victor and Xander paid her to keep her mouth shut and she went along with it out of fear. She says Xander gave her a ticket out of town but she couldn't abandon Sarah then Xander was furious when he saw her. Nicole remembers her lying about what the secret was. Dr. Raynor says she was terrified of Xander because he threatened her. Nicole argues that people would've stepped up to help her but she says no one could have helped when Xander had the full power of Victor Kiriakis behind him. Dr. Raynor says that Xander made it very clear that if she said one word to anyone, she would be killed and that's when she knew she needed to leave Salem. Dr. Raynor assumed her involvement was over by coming to New York but if the truth comes out now, Xander could still make good on his threat so she asks if Nicole intends to go public with what she knows.

Kate questions what Chad is doing with the knife. Chad clarifies that he was just going to open the mail. Kate asks if this is really him. Abigail comes in and promises that Chad is back. Chad shows Kate that he ditched Stefano's ring. Chad apologizes to Kate and asks if she can ever forgive him.

John comments on Mackenzie looking so happy and peaceful. Brady tells John that holding her reminds him so much of Rachel. Brady tells John about Kristen remembering holding Rachel including details right down to the heart shaped birth mark on her neck. Brady then reveals that Mackenzie has a birth mark that's exactly the same.

Nicole is not exactly sure what she's going to do. Dr. Raynor understands being torn over the unbearable guilt every day because she knows Xander would find a way to get to her. She hates that she deceived Sarah but at least she's not in pain. Dr. Raynor says the pain she caused Kristen will never go away. Nicole points out that Kristen has caused plenty of pain herself. Dr. Raynor recalls Kristen being responsible for Haley Chen's death and she's trying to convince herself that she did the baby a favor by having her grow up with Sarah as a mother instead of someone like Kristen DiMera.

Kristen is surprised to see Tony at the hospital when Stefano almost killed him. Tony says he did the same to her and she's here. Kristen admits that Dr. Rolf guilted her in to checking on him. Kristen explains that Dr. Rolf is removing the chip from Marlena since John promised he could see Stefano afterwards. Tony asks what will happen next and if they will force Rolf to operate on Stefano as well then if he will become Steve Johnson again. Kristen assumes so since Gina turned back in to Hope. Tony asks what happens to their father in that case.

Eric tells Abe that he knows Nicole had some medical tests run recently and she said she was fine but she lied about her trip to New York so maybe she's trying to protect him. Eric argues that if Nicole is sick, he needs to know so if she told Abe what's really going on then he needs to tell him.

Chad tells Kate that he's sick about what he did to her so he hopes she can find it in her heart to forgive him. Kate says of course she can since he was under the control of his father while she chose to be his partner in crime. Abigail notes that Stefano can be quite persuasive. Chad tells Kate that he made that deal for her shares to give to Stefano so he wants to give them back to her. Kate says he paid for them so he can keep them as she doesn't want them and is closing the chapter on the pursuit of DiMera power and money since it didn't work out for her so she's done.

Tony asks Kristen if when the procedure is done, so is their father? Kristen asks if Tony really wants him back in their life after everything he's put them through. Tony says he doesn't want him dead. Kristen says they want to be free yet they are so compelled to be a dutiful DiMera. Kristen adds that she used to be tormented by it but finding real love with Brady and having his baby really changed her. Kristen doesn't want to go back to being who she was. Kristen says she used to love that people feared her like they feared Stefano. Kristen says she can't change what she's done in the past but she can prove going forward that she's not the monster everyone thinks she is and she can make amends to the people she hurt, like Tony. Kristen brings up almost letting Tony go down for the murder of Ted Laurent and that was wrong. Tony points out that she did the right thing in the end. Kristen calls it the beginning of her quest to being a better person. Kristen likes to think she would've been a good mother. Tony encourages that she has the potential to be a great mother.

John questions Rachel having a heart shaped birth mark just like Mackenzie's. John calls it some coincidence. Brady comments on the idea so John asks if he thinks there's more to the story.

Nicole agrees with Dr. Raynor that Kristen would be a terrible mother but Brady is a wonderful man and incredible father but so is Eric, who she loves very much. Nicole worries about what this would do to Eric as first she kept him from knowing that Sarah's baby was his and now that baby has died and he doesn't even know. Dr. Raynor is sure Nicole doesn't want Eric living a lie so she understands why she has to put a stop to it. Dr. Raynor tells Nicole to go ahead and call the police because she's done running and it's time for the truth to come out, no matter the consequences.

Abe tells Eric that he gave his word to Nicole so he can't betray her confidence. Eric begs him but Abe says he's sorry as this is between Eric and Nicole. Abe then walks away.

Nicole tells Dr. Raynor that she's not going to call the police as she just wanted to know exactly what happened and now that she knows, she realizes that Raynor is not the villain. Dr. Raynor thanks her but asks about Xander. Nicole promises not to tell him that they spoke. Dr. Raynor worries about what Xander will do when he learns his secret is out but says whatever he does is out of her hands. Nicole thanks her and tells her to take care as she then exits.

Kristen tells Tony about her and Brady trying to keep Rachel's memory alive and she hopes to volunteer to hold babies. Kristen comments on being drawn to Mackenzie and she wants to know why when she knows she isn't even hers..

Brady tells John that he's just trying to find a way to help Kristen and ease her pain but holding on to these coincidences is not healthy and they need to move on. John encourages that they just need time. Brady thinks Kristen feels it's unfair that their girl is gone.

Abe goes to Julie's Place and calls Nicole to tell her that he just spoke to Eric and he knows she's not in New York on business. Nicole asks if he knows the real reason. Abe says no but Eric pressed him pretty hard. Nicole is sorry to put him in that position. Abe explains that Eric is really worried and thinks she's sick and that she's hiding some upsetting test results from him. Abe hopes Nicole is making some headway. Nicole confirms she was right about the DNA test as she tricked Dr. Raynor in to thinking the results she had were the real ones so she confirmed the babies were switched. Nicole can't believe she was right and that Mackenzie is not Eric and Sarah's baby but she belongs to Brady and Kristen. Abe asks what she's going to do about it.

Eric goes to the Brady Pub where Roman asks him what's wrong. Eric claims he's fine but Roman sees that's not true and wants him to talk. Eric admits it's Nicole keeping something from him but he doesn't know what it is.

Nicole tells Abe that she's so torn as part of her wants to just let it be. Abe questions not telling Eric anything. Nicole says she thought knowing the truth would give her peace of mind and clarity but asks how she can tell Eric that this little girl that he loves is not his daughter and that he has to hand her over to Kristen. Abe knows it won't be easy. Nicole calls it torture and talks about all the things Kristen did to her. Abe says that's all over as she, Eric, and Holly are a family. Nicole says it doesn't matter what she does as someone she loves will get hurt.

Brady talks to John about baby Rachel but says Dr. Raynor signed her death certificate so she's gone and no wishful thinking will bring her back. John calls it the end of a tragic chapter and says he'll be there for him whenever he needs as they hug. John decides to go check on Marlena and exits the room.

Tony tells Kristen that it's reasonable to be drawn to another similar child after losing her own. Tony says that Rachel will live in their hearts forever. Kristen says he's being very kind to her and comforting her after all the things she did to hurt him. Tony responds that she is his sister and his family. Kristen thanks him and hugs him.

Abigail goes to her room on the phone with Jennifer, telling her not to worry and they will get an idea where Marlena is soon. Abigail says Chad is home, doing better, and where he belongs while Stefano is in the hospital. Abigail says she's good but wiped out so she's going to take a nap. Abigail asks Jennifer to call JJ to fill him in on everything as they then hang up. Abigail reaches in to her purse and pulls out Stefano's ring. Chad then walks in and asks who she was talking to. Abigail responds saying "La Familia". Chad questions if she's testing him. Abigail admits she had to make sure he was okay. Chad assures that Stefano is out of his head and out of his life as she and the kids are the only family he needs. Chad is sorry that he put them all through that. Abigail says they have both put each other through a lot but they always get past it. Abigail tells Chad that she believes in him and loves him. Chad calls her the love of his life as they kiss.

Eric explains to Roman that last night, Nicole mentioned she had to go on an emergency business trip to New York but when he mentioned it to Brady, he said Basic Black had no business there. Eric thought they were past all this as they promised each other no more lies. Roman questions Nicole breaking her promise. Eric says he's not judging her as she maybe trying to protect him and handle whatever it is. Eric wants to be there for her for whatever it is. Eric thinks she confided in Abe but he refused to betray her confidence so he's worried and doesn't know what to do about it. Roman advises he go straight to the source and find Nicole. Eric decides that he will and thanks him as he exits the Pub.

Chad and Abigail kiss and begin to undress as they move to the bed.

Tony joins John at the hospital and asks about Dr. Rolf operating on Marlena. Tony says he'll be praying for success. John informs him that the surgery is over so they are about to find out.

Brady sits with Mackenzie and says he knows she is Eric and Sarah's and it's just a coincidence. Kristen walks in and asks what is a coincidence.

Eric goes home and calls to make a flight to New York but Nicole comes home.
