Gabi runs in to Eli and Lani in the town square

Brady is sitting at Marlena's side at the hospital. Kristen joins him and asks how she's doing. Brady says she's resting now which is good. Brady explains that he's watching over Marlena while John is at the police station trying to convince Dr. Rolf to remove the microchip from Marlena's head. Kristen knows that will be a tough sell because Dr. Rolf is forever loyal to Stefano. Brady says John won't give up since if the chip doesn't come out, Marlena will never be the same.

John confronts Dr. Rolf in the interrogation room. John informs him that they've already rescued Marlena and "Steve" has been arrested. Dr. Rolf can't believe it and calls it a temporary setback because the Phoenix always rises again. John says right now he's here for Rolf because he's going to take the chip out of Marlena. John declares he's about to undo whatever he did to her.

Sarah and Eric are at the hospital with Mickie, talking about how she's getting healthier every day. Sarah suggests Eric go check on Marlena while she changes Mickie's diaper. Eric decides to first call Nicole to see how her trip is going.

Nicole is in Central Park in New York City and calls Abe, who is at the Pub. Abe asks if she's met with Dr. Raynor yet. Nicole says her flight got in late so she was waiting until this morning to visit. Nicole thanks Abe for the address. Abe tells her to let him know if she needs anything else. Nicole mentions not wanting Eric to know anything of what she's doing until she knows for sure if he's Mackenzie's father or not. Abe wishes her luck and hangs up. Nicole then gets a call from Eric, who asks how New York is. Nicole says she's walking through central park to her meeting but she'd rather be home with him. Eric says he misses her but understands how important the meeting is to her. Nicole tells him that he and their family is the most important thing to her.

Gabi apologizes for running into Eli and Lani. Eli helps her picks up the things she dropped. Gabi says she's glad she ran into them because she wanted to talk to Eli in private. Eli says he's not interested but Gabi says it's important and will only take a minute. Lani tells Eli that it's no problem. Lani decides she will go meet Abe at the Brady Pub where Eli can join them after. Lani kisses Eli and says she loves him as she walks away. Eli asks what Gabi wants. Gabi says they haven't spoken since their wedding day. Eli asks what there is to say.

Eric asks how long Nicole thinks she will on business in New York. Nicole says she'll be done after her meeting and if all goes well, she hopes to catch a flight back tonight. Eric says that would be great. Nicole apologizes for leaving him with the kids after everything with Marlena. Eric is just glad John was able to get through to her and says it's great to have her back but he won't be comfortable until Dr. Rolf removes the chip and they're sure this will never happen again.

Dr. Rolf tells John that he will never reverse what he has done. John asks if he thinks Stefano will reward him. John says Stefano is no condition to reward anyone after grave injuries during Marlena's rescue. John doesn't think he'll make it through the night. Dr. Rolf wants to be taken to Stefano immediately so he can try to save his health. John says that will only happen if he agrees to help Marlena first.

Kristen tells Brady that she's really sorry that her father turned his family's world upside down again. Brady knows it can't be easy for her either and asks how he is. Kristen says he's still in ICU after the injuries sustained from Anna's shoe. Kristen says last she heard, he's still fighting to survive. Marlena calls out Stefano's name in her sleep.

Lani joins Abe at the Brady Pub. Lani tells him that she hopes Eli will be there shortly as they ran in to Gabi on their way and she asked to speak with him privately. Abe questions what she was thinking being okay with that.

Eli tells Gabi to hurry up and say what she has to say. Gabi tells him that she truly loved him. Eli mocks her knowing what love means. Gabi knows she can't defend what she did but she was consumed for revenge after what Lani did to Stefan. Eli tells her that was an accident. Gabi says Lani was the reason her husband was dead and she couldn't see past her pain. Gabi never thought she'd fall in love with Eli again but it happened and she hopes someday he can forgive her. Eli says never.

Sarah gets a call from Xander and tells him that Mickie's numbers are better than expected so she will be at their wedding. Sarah can't wait to be his wife and hangs up. Kristen then approaches and asks if everything is alright with Mackenzie. Sarah says they are just here for a checkup and everything is fine. Kristen looks over Mickie and says she hopes her mom knows what a precious gift she is..

Nicole and Eric talk about Holly. Eric tells her Mackenzie's checkup went great and she's recovering fast. Eric says not long ago, they thought they were going to lose her and he doesn't know what he would've done if that happened but now he doesn't have to worry. Nicole says she'll see him tonight and that she loves him. Eric says he loves her too and hangs up.

Lani assures Abe that she's not worried about Gabi anymore since she and Eli are back together and happier than ever. Abe doesn't understand why Eli would want to talk to Gabi. Lani suggests he needs closure and she's okay with that so they can finally put Gabi behind them for good.

Eli questions how Gabi could claim to love him when she put a ticking time bomb in his grandmother. Gabi claims she never would've used the app and only had it as leverage over Lani. Gabi says she was just crazy in love with Eli and didn't want to lose him. Eli tells her the sad thing is that he loved her too. Eli says he doesn't know who she is and she's lucky she's not in prison. Gabi says she donated her bone marrow to save Eric's daughter and thinks that should count for something. Eli argues that she only did that to save her own ass because she doesn't care about anyone but herself which is why she will always be alone. Eli then walks away.

Sarah and Kristen talk about Kristen's donation to the hospital in Rachel's memory. Kristen thanks her for her suggestion that she volunteer to hold babies. Kristen says she hasn't had a chance to do it yet after everything with Marlena.

Eric joins Brady in Marlena's room and tells him that Mickie is doing better than they could've hoped. Brady tells Eric that Marlena had a restless night but she's sleeping now which is good. Brady adds that right before Eric came in, Marlena called out to Stefano in her sleep. They guess that he's still in their head. Brady tells him that John is at the station now trying to convince Dr. Rolf to remove the chip so they hope it works. Eric suggests Brady get out while he stays with Marlena. Brady says he can stay but Eric insists. Brady asks about Nicole. Eric says she's in New York for business which Brady questions.

Nicole goes to Dr. Raynor's home in New York.

Eli joins Abe and Lani at the Pub and says everything is good. Lani says that Abe was just about to say why he invited them to breakfast. Abe calls it official business. Abe thanks them both for involving themselves in the rescue of David and apprehending Orpheus. Lani says they love David and Rafe so there is nothing they wouldn't do for them. Abe adds that he's here representing the Salem Police Department as they want both Eli and Lani back. Abe asks if they will join the force again.

Sarah tells Kristen that she has to get going because she's getting married soon. Kristen congratulates her and hopes it works out for her. John arrives with Dr. Rolf. Rolf asks Kristen how Stefano is and if he's still alive. Kristen confirms that he's still alive and in ICU. Sarah questions what Dr. Rolf is doing here. John explains that Dr. Rolf has agreed to remove Marlena's chip if he let him see Stefano. John motions to Kristen to go along with him as Dr. Rolf questions why Kristen isn't by her father's side. Kristen responds that visitors are restricted in ICU but Dr. Rolf is not sure he believes her.

Brady questions Eric as to what kind of business Nicole went to New York on. Eric explains that it was for Basic Black and she left last minute. Brady reveals they don't have any operations in New York and all of their business is based out of LA. Eric says he talked to her this morning but Brady assures him that there is no Basic Black meeting so she's not in New York for that. Eric realizes Nicole is lying to him. Eric doesn't understand after everything they have been through, unless the real reason is something personal.

Dr. Raynor tells Nicole that she was just heading out but Nicole tells her to stop lying and tell her the truth for a change. Raynor questions what she's doing here and how she found her. Nicole says a good friend helped her despite her attempts to disappear. Nicole questions if she's using an alias now. Dr. Raynor says she has no reason to hide from anyone. Nicole tells her that she's here because she wants to know the truth about exactly who Mackenzie Horton's parents are and she's not leaving until she gets it.

Eli and Lani tell Abe they aren't sure about rejoining the police department after the way they quit. Abe understands it was not their fault and they wanted to put that behind them. Abe says they both have a calling and it's not to be a nun or a head of security, they are cops and among the most dedicated and talented detectives he's seen. Abe says the Salem PD needs them. Lani asks if they can think about it. Abe tells them to take all the time they need but he hopes they decide soon because there are too many crazies around town.

Dr. Rolf questions how he knows Kristen isn't lying about her father's condition. Kristen insists that the surgery barely saved his life which Sarah backs up. Dr. Rolf says he has to see him now. Dr. Rolf suggests he and Kristen go together. John tells him to remove the chip from Marlena's brain first. Kristen suggests Rolf do as John asks.

Brady questions Eric thinking Nicole is in New York for something personal. Eric thinks back to Nicole having test results. Eric tells him about thinking Nicole was pregnant but it was just routine blood work. Eric notes that she was a bit shaken but she assured it was nothing to worry about. Eric wonders if Nicole is trying to protect him and doesn't want to lay another medical crisis on him. Eric says he needs to figure this out one way or another. Brady gets a text from John that he has brought Dr. Rolf to the hospital. Eric decides the Nicole situation can wait but not for long.

Dr. Raynor tells Nicole that she did not switch the babies and calls her delusional. Nicole reveals she has DNA test results and asks how she explains them. Nicole thinks back to getting DNA from Mickie and Kristen then having the DNA test run and telling Abe about her theory. Nicole claims to Dr. Raynor that Mackenzie is a perfect match to Kristen and questions how she explains that.

Brady and Eric join the hospital lobby where John informs them that Dr. Rolf has agreed to extract the microchip from Marlena's brain. Eric says that's great. John tells Dr. Rolf that he will then be taken to Stefano. Brady mentions that Marlena is resting. John instructs Sarah to get Kayla and prepare the operating room. Sarah says she will help Dr. Rolf scrub in. John is confident they will have Marlena back soon. John goes to check on Marlena while Sarah asks Eric to stay with Mickie while she helps Rolf. Brady tells Eric to go figure out what's going on with Nicole and he'll watch Mackenzie until Sarah gets back. Brady wishes Eric luck as he then exits.

Dr. Raynor claims not to know what Nicole is talking about and says she was not involved in whatever the test results say. Nicole brings up Dr. Raynor signing the death certificate for Brady and Kristen's daughter. Nicole tells her to stop lying or she will make her life a living hell. Nicole threatens to have her medical license taken away and to send her to prison, questioning if she wants to go down for Xander's crimes.

John goes in to see Marlena. Marlena says she had a dream about Stefano and a wedding. John tells her that wedding wasn't real and promises Stefano will never make her his queen of the night. Marlena doesn't know why she feels this pull towards Stefano as she doesn't want to feel that but she does so she hopes it goes away. Marlena doesn't want this control to affect her and John's relationship.

Gabi goes home and looks at a photo of Stefan as she thinks back to Eli telling her that she only cares about herself and will always be alone.

Eli and Lani go home. Lani notes that he was quiet on the way home. Eli points out that it isn't their home, it's JJ's, and only their's temporarily while he is away. Lani says it's convenient to live rent-free while they are both unemployed but she knows it's not sustainable. Lani asks if Eli misses being a cop. Eli admits he does every day. Lani says the same. Lani thought she found her calling in being a nun but after rescuing David, it made clear that she's more suited to a badge. Eli and Lani then decide they will take Abe's offer and they will be a team again as it should've been all along. Lani says it feels great that everything is coming full circle. Eli agrees and they kiss.

John tells Marlena that Dr. Rolf has agreed to remove her microchip. Marlena questions if they can trust him. John admits he exaggerated Stefano's medical condition and promised to let Rolf see him in exchange for removing the chip so he will do it safely. John adds that Kayla will watch over him. Marlena thanks him as she just wants them to love each other like they always have. John knows no matter what Stefano tries, he can never destroy their love.

Abe exits the Brady Pub and runs into Eric. Eric says he considers Abe to be one of Nicole's closest friends and asks if he knows the real reason Nicole went to New York.

Dr. Raynor tells Nicole that Eric loves his daughter so she needs to leave this alone. Nicole responds that she's doing this because she loves Eric and he deserves to know the truth about the baby he believes is his child. Dr. Raynor tells her it's not too late to walk away but Nicole says it is. Nicole threatens to call the medical board or the police. Dr. Raynor stops her and agrees to tell her the truth. She then admits that Sarah and Eric's baby died last Mother's Day.

Brady watches over Mickie at the hospital. He picks her up and talks about her being a miracle. Brady then notices the birth mark on her neck.
