Shawn enters the interrogation room to confront Princess Hope. He says he and his sister want their mother back. Gina tells him that they have tried and failed as their mother is gone.

At the police station, Kate is on the phone complaining to her lawyer about spending three nights in a jail cell. Kate says there won't be a trial because of Princess Gina and Stefano. Kate insists she will be out soon and hangs up. Jennifer arrives and tells Kate that she's not going anywhere until she deals with her.

Chad is at the DiMera Mansion. He pulls out the letter that Stefano left him, saying the time is coming when he must know and understand his plan, asking him to believe that he has chosen him to be by his side as he takes control of his empire.

Kayla remains tied to a chair with Stefano. She tries to get through to Steve to no avail. Stefano calls her extremely irritating and says he doesn't see why Justin hasn't come to the same conclusion but he must truly care about her. Stefano informs Kayla that Justin has convinced Marlena to surrender herself to him.

At the Brady Pub, John questions if Hattie is sure she can go through with this. Hattie says all she has to do is make sure that Stefano believes she is Marlena long enough for them to burst in and take him down. John warns her to keep her distance. Roman insists that it's a bad idea since Stefano won't be fooled twice. Marlena arrives and says that's right. Marlena mentions just getting back from Statesville. Marlena says she didn't hear their details but it's not going to work because if Stefano wants her, it has to be her.

Shawn gives Princess Gina a court order that says she has to submit to an MRI but she refuses. Shawn tells her that the judge says she has no choice so with any luck, the test will show exactly how Dr. Rolf turned his mom into a homicidal doll then they will undo what he did and he'll have his mom back.

Jennifer argues that Kate knew what Dr. Rolf did to Steve and Hope's mind and she thought it was amusing. Jennifer accuses her of helping Dr. Rolf and knowing that Princess Gina threw her off the balcony, complaining that she lost a year of her life while Kate sat back and watched. Kate argues that there was nothing she could've done. Jennifer says she could have told her. Kate is sorry for what happened to her but says she did do the right thing in saving John from Gina, so Gina is in custody and maybe they can rescue Hope. Jennifer asks about Steve still thinking he's Stefano and that he's taken Kayla hostage.

Kayla tells Stefano that nobody could convince Marlena to surrender herself to him. Stefano warns her about how she speaks to him if she ever wants to be free. Kayla insists that Marlena is in love with John and repulsed by him. Stefano knows she can't stand the thought that Marlena will have what she can't. Stefano brings up how Kayla reacted when she thought Steve had returned on New Year's Eve. Stefano asks if Kayla still wants Steve while he's about to give his body to another woman.

Marlena informs Roman, John, and Hattie about Ciara stopping Ben's execution with Rafe's help and the killer being David's father who is now in custody. Roman asks what happens to Ben. Marlena says he is stable and should be released soon. Marlena wants to know what's going on here. Justin explains that "Steve" has kidnapped Kayla and wants Marlena in order to let her go. Marlena guesses they pressed Hattie into service but says she's here now. John doesn't want Marlena in the same room with Stefano, pointing out how Hattie barely made it out alive last time. Hattie wants revenge for Stefano almost strangling her.

Chad pulls out a bottle of pills and takes some. Jack enters and asks if he's alright. Chad welcomes him back and asks about Abigail. Jack informs him that Abigail did not come back.

Kate tells Jennifer that if anyone can handle "Steve", it's Kayla. Kate says that Steve just thinks he's Stefano but there's still a lot of Steve there. Kate is sure Steve and Kayla's bond will break the hold that Stefano has on him. Jennifer asks what Lucas is going to say to her when he finds out what she's been doing. Kate says she hasn't talked to Lucas in awhile. Jennifer realizes Kate doesn't know what happened and informs her that their father Bill Horton passed away. Jennifer notes that it was really sudden. Kate asks about the funeral but Jennifer reveals that she missed it because she was locked up. Kate cries that she's sorry and exits the station.

Jack informs Chad that JJ decided he wasn't ready to come back yet as he wanted to go see Theo then at the last moment, Abigail decided to stay to help JJ get settled. Jack questions her not calling Chad. Chad says he doesn't know as he's kind of in between phones right now since their daughter Charlotte likes to hide his phone so he has a new one charging. Jack is sure that Abigail is worried that he hasn't called her back so he'll let her know. Chad asks how long Abigail is staying. Jack says it won't be long as she just wanted to help JJ then she wants to get back to the kids. Chad decides he has to call her. Jack stops him to ask what's with the news that Stefano is back in Salem in his brother Steve's body.

Kayla doesn't care whose body Stefano inhabits and says he won't get to first base with Marlena unless he brainwashes her. Kayla argues that a real man could attract a woman without having to alter her consciousness. Stefano warns her not to push him too far as he might lose his temper and be forced to kill her before he has to. Kayla questions if he has no intention of letting her go even after he has Marlena. Kayla demands to know if he's going to kill her. Stefano responds that he's keeping his options open.

Marlena says she's so grateful for everything Hattie has done. Hattie suggests plan B, they both go in to help rescue Kayla. Justin says no because "Steve" told him to bring Marlena and no one else so it's risky enough that John is going. Justin worries that if "Steve" thinks he set him up, he could kill Kayla. Justin gets a text from Stefano with the address for the exchange. Marlena says let's go. Justin points out that she doesn't even know the plan. Marlena says he can tell her on the way. John reminds her to keep her distance and just distract him long enough so they can put an end to this. John and Justin then exit the Pub with Marlena.

Princess Gina repeats to Shawn that Hope no longer exists and she refuses the document. Shawn responds that he doesn't need her permission because her body belongs to Hope, who is legally obligated to abide by the court order. Shawn says he'll go and make sure her transportation to the hospital for the MRI is ready to go. Shawn exits the room while she complains that she is not Hope, she is Princess Gina.

Justin, John, and Marlena go to meet Stefano. John calls Marlena the bravest woman he's ever known and kisses her. John then goes around back to look for a way in. Marlena assures Justin that Kayla will be alright and this will be over soon as they head inside.

Jack tells Chad that this is a really weird development but explains a lot as Kayla kept telling him that she couldn't understand why Steve was doing what he was doing but it turns out, it wasn't really him. Jack guesses the silver lining is that Steve never really turned his back on everyone who loved him. Jack asks if there are any leads on where he's taken Kayla. Chad says he doesn't know but Stefano was in the mansion today. Chad notes that he didn't see him but nobody else could've left the ring for him.

Stefano is on the phone with Dr. Rolf, making sure everything is in place because he wants Marlena to be comfortable. Stefano says that once she submits to him, she will realize how foolish she was to resist. Stefano hangs up and then Justin enters with Marlena.

Kate goes to the Brady Pub and tells Roman that she can explain about Gina and Stefano but Roman says there is no possible explanation for what she did. Kate thought they were acting crazy because of stress and claims she had no idea about what had happened. Roman guesses that Stefano offered her a job when he takes over. Kate tries to deny it but Roman says he's right and she could've warned them so they could've contained the situation. Roman asks if she has any idea how much pain and damage she's caused. Kate says the police made that clear while she was in jail and then she ran in to Jennifer so she doesn't want to hear any more about it. Roman tells Kate to go upstairs, pack her things, and get out because she's fired. Hattie interrupts and says he can't do that to her.

Shawn greets Jennifer at the police station and tells her that he's sorry about Bill. Jennifer says she came by because the paper got a tip that he got a court order. Shawn confirms he's about to take "Hope" to the hospital now. Jennifer asks if she can go in for a minute first. Shawn has no problem but warns that Gina is in full control and knows how to push buttons. Jennifer assures that she won't let her get to her. Shawn tells her to let him know if she needs him as she heads in to the interrogation room. Gina tells Jennifer that she's been expecting her.

Jack questions why Stefano would risk getting caught just to leave Chad one of his rings. Chad explains that it's not just a ring, it's his Phoenix ring. Chad adds that he left a letter too. Jack asks what it says. Chad says that Stefano said he wants him with him when he takes over his empire. Jack asks if he really believes "Steve" is his father. Chad says in his head he knows it can't be, but if it is Steve, he's got his father down to the way he talked to him like they had a connection and like he had his father back.

Justin informs Stefano that he's transferring the $10 million to his account and he brought Marlena so he met his terms and it's time to make the switch. Stefano realizes his appearance may create doubt about who he really is but he has no doubt about Marlena.

Chad doesn't know why Jack is so skeptical when he knows what Dr. Rolf is capable of. Jack thinks Dr. Rolf made a mistake choosing Steve for Stefano to inhabit because Steve is incredibly stubborn. Jack says his money is on Steve. Jack knows Chad has a soft spot for his father. Chad admits in the end they were close. Jack brings up Chad moving his whole family to Paris to get out from under being a DiMera which he calls the right thing. Jack adds that Chad would still be there if not for Jennifer's coma. Chad asks if he's saying they should go back to Paris. Jack warns him not to let himsefl be pulled into this craziness and to do whatever it takes. Jack suggests throwing the ring in the river and burning the letter, whatever it takes to keep his distance from Stefano as it's the only thing that will protect him and his family. Chad agrees to think about it as they hug. Jack mentions that he and Jennifer promised Abigail that they would help him look after the kids. Chad thanks him as Jack then exits.

Hattie tells Roman that if Kate says she didn't know what they were up to then she believes her. Roman tells her that this is between he and Kate so Hattie goes back to work. Kate tells Roman that he can keep his job because the lure of the simple life has faded. Roman says he already put an ad in the Spectator for her replacement and tells her to go upstairs, pack and get out. Kate asks if she can't stay the night. Roman says no. Kate reminds him that she helped rescue Marlena. Roman reminds her that Stefano kidnapped his sister. Kate says that "Steve" won't hurt Kayla. Roman argues that he didn't think Hope would push Jennifer off a balcony either so he doesn't give a damn what she says. Roman declares that Steve Johnson is just as dangerous now.

Stefano talks about the grand gestures he's made over the years not meaning anything to Marlena but now she's here. Stefano asks if this means she's finally willing to submit to him.

Princess Gina says she was curious when Jennifer would arrive to scold her for the fall off the balcony. Jennifer says they both know she pushed her because she figured her out. Gina says it wasn't personal but she had to protect her own interests because she couldn't have her tell anyone of their plans so she had to stop her. Jennifer brings up being in a coma for a year. Gina remarks that she was relieved when Jennifer woke up with no memory. Gina says it was boring having to pretend to be her cousin Hope but it allowed her to keep tabs on her. Gina says Abigail started asking too many questions so she came close to pushing her off the balcony but she didn't follow through. Jennifer reaches over the table and grabs Gina, screaming that she's the one that deserves to die and calling her a monster. Jennifer yells at her to bring her cousin back. Shawn runs in to break it up then takes Jennifer out of the room. Jennifer complains that Gina was going to kill Abigail. Jennifer regrets going in and hopes that this MRI can get Hope back. Shawn says he will keep her posted.. Shawn goes in to the interrogation room where Gina is complaining about Jennifer. Shawn escorts Gina out of the room.

Chad sits down reading over Stefano's letter, saying he knows his children are the future and family is the most important thing in life.

Kate tells Roman that she spent more time with "Steve" than he did and there's a lot more Steve Johnson there than he thinks so he won't let anyone hurt Kayla. Roman hopes she's right because she'll have major additional charges against her otherwise. Roman mentions feeling he might have been abrupt with Hattie. Kate asks if he has a thing for Hattie. Roman says no but he respects her because she put her life on the line to help Marlena so Kate could learn a thing or two about courage from her. Kate guesses he does have a thing for her. Roman says that's not what he says and orders Kate upstairs to go pack and get out.

Marlena says she can see Stefano behind Steve Johnson's eyes. Marlena adds that she's here because of love. Stefano says he's waited so long to hear her say those words. Marlena clarifies that she's here because of all the people she loves that he's hurt; John, Hope, Kayla, Steve, Hattie, and so many more. Marlena states that the only thing Stefano really loves is hurting innocent people. Marlena declares that she's willing to go with him now and they can leave Salem forever because that way, she knows he will never hurt the people she loves again. Kayla tells Marlena not to do it.

Kate packs her bags and tosses her apron back at Roman, remarking that it was real fun while it lasted as she storms out of the Pub. Hattie comes over and says Kate was the best friend she ever had and she seems upset. Roman says she'll get over it. Hattie feels like no matter what happens to Kate, she always ends up alone. Roman says she doesn't need anyone else as she always takes care of herself. Roman adds that he and Hattie have a lot more people to worry about.

Shawn brings Gina to the hospital. She tells him that he's wasting his time because she won't allow Hope to return. Shawn responds that she may not have a choice.

Jack goes to the police station where Jennifer thanks him for coming to get her because she was too upset to drive. Jennifer informs Jack that Shawn took Gina to the hospital and she's praying that they figure out something. Jack asks what happened between them. Jennifer says it was horrible and she shouldn't have confronted her but she was proud of trying to kill her and was bragging about planning to try to kill Abigail. Jack encourages that he knows Hope and Steve are strong and will somehow fight back and not let Stefano win. Jennifer hopes he's right but as long as Stefano is in town in any shape or form, nobody they love is safe.

Chad approaches the portrait of Stefano and hears his voice telling him to put the ring on, so he does.

Kayla tells Marlena not to do it as she heard Stefano and Dr. Rolf are planning to put a chip in her head to make her submissive like they did to turn Hope into Gina. Stefano pulls a knife on Kayla and asks if they have a deal now. Marlena wonders in her head where John is.

Outside the hideout, John has been knocked out.

Stefano holds Kayla at gunpoint and tells Marlena to come to him as he takes her by the hand.
