Gabi yells at everyone to stay away from Julie. Eli argues that if Gabi ever cared for him, she will give him her phone. Lani remarks that Gabi may have loved him but not as much as she hates her. Julie tells Gabi to go on and kill her because if all she had to do was push a button to kill Gabi, she would. Julie shouts that she's had more love than Gabi will ever have in her whole life. Julie declares that if she dies tonight, Gabi will go on living alone because she betrayed everyone who ever cared about her. Gabi then presses the button causing Julie to collapse. Eli, Lani, and Abigail check on Julie while Rafe questions what Gabi has done.

Jennifer and Jack are with Doug at Julie's Place. Doug talks about seeing Hope handcuffed to a chair in the interrogation room and hardly recognizing her. Jennifer assures him that was not Hope, the woman they know and love. Jack says she was brainwashed in to being Princess Gina. Doug feels he should've known something was wrong as her father. Jennifer points out that none of them knew. Doug was sure he could get through to her but she was cold as ice. Jack relates to being the same way when he first came back to Salem without his memory but his family didn't give up on him. Jennifer declares that in this case, they need Dr. Rolf since he did this to Hope so he can undo it. Jennifer adds that Shane is working on a lead now. Jennifer's phone rings so she steps away to answer it.

Eli tries to wake Julie up but she's not responding. Eli calls on Valerie to do something. Valerie checks on Julie and finds that her pulse is steady and strong. Eli questions what's wrong with her then. Julie then reveals she was faking it and declares there's nothing wrong as she's never felt better in her life, shocking Gabi. Julie tells Valerie that she's fine. Gabi questions why it's not working. Chad rushes over and takes her phone away. Julie tells Gabi that she was faking it and she fell for it as Lani declares that Gabi doesn't control Julie anymore.

Jennifer finishes her call and informs Doug and Jack that she has some bad news as Lucas just called to tell her that her father, Bill Horton, has died. Doug hugs her as she cries. Jennifer explains that he had a heart attack in his sleep. Doug is glad he didn't suffer. Jennifer notes that it's not a total shock since his health had been declining the last few years. Jack talks about time spent with Bill. Doug calls him such a good man and realizes that he knew Bill for 50 years.

Julie reveals that Gabi's murder app is completely useless now so she can get her phone back because she won't be using it where she's going. Gabi tries to run but JJ stops her. Abigail asks someone to explain what the hell is going on. JJ explains that when Gabi found out that Julie needed a replacement pacemaker, she went back to her DiMera minion and told him to rig the new one so that she would still have control over Julie's heart. Julie declares that they foiled her plan. Abigail asks how JJ knew the tech guy. JJ says he ran in to him at the hospital this morning and thought he looked familiar. JJ notes that he told him that he worked for a company that made medical devices but it hit him when he walked away, that he saw the man's mugshot back when he was on the police force. JJ says the man's name is Chris Troy and he has a record a mile long so he realized Gabi must have sent him so he confronted him. JJ continues that he denied everything but then he suggested having Julie's doctor take a look at the new pacemaker and he ran for it so JJ called security to get Julie a new device while Chris is currently at the police station. Gabi asks if Rafe was in on this too but Rafe responds that he was not. JJ didn't want to put Rafe in the position of having to expose his own sister as an attempted murder. Julie points out that Gabi has been a successful murder since she shot Nick. Abe tells JJ to go on. JJ explains that he had an old cop buddy of his take Chris in but he wouldn't give up Gabi and got a lawyer so they had to come up with a new way to get a confession. Lani reveals that she had Theo send Gabi a text message. Abe questions Theo being in on this. Lani explains that they needed someone tech savvy and trustworthy so when the time was right, Theo sent Gabi a text message that the new device was active which made Gabi think she succeeded so she let her guard down. JJ reveals that when he picked Julie up for the wedding, he told her everything and they both agreed that the only way to get the proof they needed to nail Gabi was to stage this scene. Julie says after getting over the shock, she was all in. Julie apologizes to everyone if she upset them but the plan worked as Gabi fell for it. Gabi screams that she has been way too nice to all of them and doesn't know what she was thinking. Lani says that Gabi's sick little game turned out to be a good thing since she ran down the pacemaker years faster than normal so now Julie is free and they all are.

Jack asks Doug about knowing Bill for 50 years. Doug says he knew him even before Jennifer was born. Jennifer asks Doug to tell her some stories about her dad that she never knew before.

Eli questions what the hell is wrong with Gabi. Gabi tells him that she's so sorry. Eli asks if this was all about stealing him from Lani and revenge. Gabi claims that's how it started but she fell in love with him and she wanted to stop all of this but she was afraid of what he would do if he found out the truth. Eli points out that she just cranked up the app, thinking she was going to kill Julie and asks if that was out of love. Gabi cries that she was desperate and didn't want to lose him. Eli responds that she just did. Lani declares that Gabi didn't just lose Eli, she's about to lose everything. Gabi turns to JJ and says she thought he was her friend. JJ responds that he thought she was his. Gabi claims she was and asks if this is how he thanks her for saving his life. Julie points out that she was grateful to Gabi for saving her life and praised her endlessly because she gave her Stefan's heart. Julie says she was ready to welcome her in to her family because she really believed that she had changed but she's still the same bitch she always was. Gabi tells her to shut up. Julie says there's no chance becuase now she wants to praise Lani. Julie thanks Lani and apologizes for all the dreadful things she had to say about her earlier to convince everybody and for how she treated her over the past year. Lani tells Julie it's okay and she has nothing to apologize for as she didn't know. Julie says she knows now what a sacrifice Lani made in giving up the man she loves to keep her alive. Julie states that she will be grateful to Lani for the rest of her life.

Jack asks Doug about Brent Douglas being his real name. Doug says that's when he was a con man and that Bill Horton was the complete opposite. Doug says from time to time, Bill could find himself in trouble as he flashes back to their time in prison together in the 70s when he stopped Bill being attacked by other inmates. Jennifer thanks Doug for being so brave or she might not exist. Doug says he may have saved Bill that day but in the big picture, Bill saved him. Jack asks what he means. Doug admits he didn't come to Salem with the best intentions but because he heard Susan Martin was coming in to a large inheritance which he immediately set his sights on as he continues his flashback to the past. Doug continues that he met Julie then and set his sights on her instead. Doug can't imagine how different history would've been if he never met Bill. Doug declares that in a way, he owes who he is and everything he's become to Bill Horton.

Chad confronts Gabi and brings up her manipulating Abigail into thinking her mental illness was back and trying to destroy his family over and over. Chad adds that Abigail could've pressed charges but didn't, thinking she had learned a lesson to never do something so evil again just for revenge. Abigail understands why Gabi hated her but Stefan's death was an accident and Lani put her life on the line to keep everyone safe. Gabi remarks that she didn't keep Stefan safe. Gabi argues that she went to prison for a crime she didn't commit because of Abigail and she was beaten so badly that she can't have another child. Abigail argues that she protected her from legal consequences which Chad said was a mistake and she should've gone through it because then she wouldn't have been able to cause all these people so much pain. Julie tells Abigail not to blame herself for anything because it's all Gabi's fault. Lani tells Rafe that she's sorry to say this but he's the only cop here, so he's going to have to arrest Gabi. Rafe reads Gabi her rights. Gabi tells Eli that she's sorry. Eli says so is he as Rafe escorts Gabi out of the town square.

Jennifer says it's hard to imagine her father being hauled off to prison but she knows he did a lot that he regrets as a young man and she thinks that's what drove him to a life of service. Jack calls it pretty incredible to watch Bill work as a volunteer doctor in Africa. Jennifer loved how he connected with the kids there but it made her realize how much she missed having her dad around when she was a kid. Jennifer says when he showed up at their wedding, it made her whole world as she flashes back to that moment. Jennifer and Jack call that the most beautiful day. Doug comments that it seems like the family used to get together for weddings but more and more now, they get together for funerals.

Eli hugs Julie and Valerie. Julie declares her work here is done so she would like to get back to Doug. Chad and Abigail agree to drive her so they walk off with Julie. Abe tells Lani that he's so sorry for what she's been through and he wishes she had confided in him. Lani says she wanted to tell him so bad. Abe is thankful she's home and hopes she is here to stay which she confirms is the plan as they hug. Lani asks him for a second to say goodbye to JJ. JJ tells Lani that she did it. Lani tells JJ that she's so thankful for what he did for her today and hugs him as Eli looks on. JJ encourages Lani to go talk to Eli as he then walks away. Eli instead exits the town square as well.

Chad and Abigail bring Julie to Julie's Place where Julie informs Doug, Jack, and Jennifer about how Gabi could have killed her but she's safe now. Chad confirms that Rafe arrested Gabi and took her to the police station. Abigail says most importantly, Julie is okay. Julie says she's satisfied because now she knows that Gabi is going to get what she deserves.

Gabi is handcuffed to the table in the interrogation room. She cries as Rafe enters the room. Rafe doesn't know what to say. Gabi argues that he doesn't understand so he tells her to help him understand how she could do this.

Eli sits outside on the park bench and removes the ring from his finger. Lani approaches him. Eli questions why she didn't tell him. Lani says she wanted to so much that it physically hurt but she couldn't take that risk that Gabi would hurt Julie. Lani points out that Eli saw himself that she wasn't bluffing. Eli points out that Lani told JJ and questions why JJ instead of him.

Rafe asks Gabi to explain this to him because he doesn't understand. Gabi asks if he knows how long she waited to find real love. She didn't think it was going to happen for her and then it did with Stefan but just like that, he was gone. Gabi complains that she needed someone to blame. Rafe tells her it's not Lanis' fault. Gabi accuses him of taking Lani's side over his sister. Rafe says he's not taking sides. Gabi says after Lani shot Stefan, then Eli, Doug, and the Hortons came to the hospital begging her to save Julie's life after treating her like the biggest bitch and she couldn't take it anymore so she wanted payback. Gabi cries that she saw the pacemaker as her chance to make those people hurt and feel the pain that she has felt.

Lani tells Eli that when all of this went down, he had just been promoted to police commissioner and Gabi was watching her every move so if she told him, Gabi would've found out. Eli questions her telling JJ instead. Lani clarifies that she didn't plan to but she's been sitting on this secret for over a year then she just happened to run in to JJ on her way out of town so he let her hide out at his place and eventually he got the truth out of her then he was so determined to stop Gabi. Lani says she was thankful for his help but she was petrified that it would backfire but it worked and now the truth is out so she can finally tell Eli what is in her heart. Lani assures Eli that she still loves him and never stopped for a second. Lani says she joined the convent because she knew she could never love anyone the same. Lani declares that the only man she will ever want is Eli.

JJ joins the family at Doug's Place and asks why everyone looks so sad. Julie informs him that she was just talking with Jennifer, Jack, and Doug about their visit with Hope. JJ asks how she is. Doug says she is sadly the same. Julie thinks they all must have confidence that they are going to get Hope back but it will take some time. Doug agrees but reveals they just got some very bad news. Jennifer informs Abigail, JJ, Chad, and Julie that Bill died today. Julie cries that she's so sorry. Jennifer says Mike is making arrangements now to get everything together for them. Jack notes that he and Jennifer are going to book the first flights they can to Cape Town. JJ and Abigail decide they are going with them so Chad goes to call a travel agent but Abigail says she doesn't want Chad to come with her. Chad questions her not wanting him to go to her grandfather's funeral. Abigail clarifies that she does but there's tropical disease in the area he worked so she's not comfortable taking the kids to South Africa so she thinks he should stay with them. Chad agrees with whatever she needs. Jennifer says they need to start making arrangements. Julie tells her that Bill was one in a million and they were all blessed to have him in their lives.

Gabi tells Rafe that she must be cursed because Eli was hers first then Lani took him away. Gabi complains that Lani and Abigail wrecked her life but it's never their fault. Rafe shouts that she committed multiple crimes and asks if she realizes that. Gabi cries that she was so upset that Arianna couldn't make it to the wedding and now she's happy she wasn't there. Gabi asks how she explains to Arianna that her mom is going to be in prison again. Rafe says it's a little late to think about that now. Gabi points out that she confessed in front of dozens of witnesses. Rafe doesn't know how she gets out of this one even with all the DiMera power and money.

Lani thought she had made peace with losing Eli forever but when he showed up in Italy and said he was with Gabi, that was too much so she realized she had to stop hiding and come home to fight and she's so glad she did. Eli responds that he is too. Lani tells Eli that he deserved to know the truth. Eli says she deserves to know how grateful he is as Lani then kisses Eli.

Jack tells JJ that it's been a really rough year for all of them so he's sorry they are going to another funeral but encourages that his grandfather lived a long and full life. Jack says JJ is coming from a tough place having lost Haley, making what he did today for Lani and Julie all the more extraordinary. JJ says he just did what had to be done. Jack praises his courage and says he's so proud of him as he hugs him. Jennifer joins them so Jack asks if they are ready to go as they exit together.

Chad and Abigail go home to pack Abigail's bags and go over what the kids need. Chad assures that everything will be fine. Abigail thanks him for being her rock through this and says she'll be back before he knows it as they kiss.

Julie talks about what a day it's been. Doug can't believe he came so close to losing her. Julie assure he's not going to lose her. Doug talks about going down memory lane with Jennifer and he realized he never would've had Julie in his life if he hadn't met Bill Horton. Doug flashes back to meeting Bill in prison and then meeting Julie. Julie talks about Doug's 50 years going from con man to mayor of Salem to singer and owner of a nightclub to traveling the world then becoming a father, grandfather, and husband. Julie thanks Doug for their life together and says she can't imagine her life without him in it. Doug says the same as they kiss.
