Clyde and Ben go to the prison yard to plan their escape. Clyde informs him that he paid off the guard to leave them alone for awhile, feeling they will have until bed checks and instructs Ben to keep an eye out while he goes to work on the fence.

Ciara is at the Kiriakis Mansion looking at a photo of her and Ben on her phone. She thinks back to getting a call from Clyde, who said he needed her help. Ciara said she wanted nothing to do with him but Clyde told her that he was going to save Ben's life and he can't do it without her.

Clyde works on cutting the fence with wire cutters while Ben tells him to hurry. Clyde tells him to be patient and they will be home free. The bed check alarm goes off so Clyde declares that they have to get out of here now.

Chad and Abigail sit in the town square, wondering how the portrait of Steve Johnson got in the gatehouse. Abigail doubts Ciara and Ben knew about it so someone must have hid it there after they left. Chad brings up Stefano's original portrait going missing a year ago then being found at Stefano's hideout. Chad mentions that he put in a request to Hope to have it returned but she never got back to him. Abigail guesses Hope has been busy. Chad suggests checking with Rafe.

Rafe questions what Kate means by Steve is Stefano. Kate gets that it sounds really crazy but it's true as Stefano and Gina have been working together for quite some time. Rafe questions her knowing about this. Kate says all that matters is that she's here now and she wants to fix it and make things right. Rafe asks how she plans on doing that with the lengths they have gone to. Rafe questions Kate working with them. Kate swears she did not do what Stefano was going to do and when she found out, she came to stop him from hurting John and Marlena. Kate claims she hadn't been working with them. Rafe argues that she's been keeping their secret from everyone. Kate says that doesn't matter because she's here now to do whatever she can to help. Kate thinks she's already helped the situation since before she left Salem, she performed a little switch.

Stefano talks about waiting for this moment for so long as he and "Marlena" kiss until she stops and says she can't do this. She says it's not about John, it's about Roman because he's the man she loves and the man of her dreams. Stefano then realizes that it's Hattie and not Marlena. Hattie thought he was supposed to be an evil super genius but it took him a long time to figure this out. Stefano says this can't be happening.

Gina holds the dagger on John and declares that if she can't have him, no one can, but Marlena enters and orders her to get away from John. Gina warns that if Marlena takes one step closer, she will kill John.

Ciara thinks back to Clyde's call again. Clyde talked about Ben having no options left and there was no time to waste. Clyde informed Ciara that he was going to bust Ben out tonight after dark.

Ben worried that the guard would be out any second. Clyde gets the fence cut open and tells Ben to go through the hole first.

Stefano asks if Hattie is proud of herself for taking advantage of his vulnerability. Hattie argues that he was so focused on trying to get Marlena in bed that he wasn't paying attention to details. Stefano wanted to believe she would finally be his. Hattie calls it a bad plan and says Marlena never would've fallen for the things he was saying. Stefano argues that they have a connection that she wouldn't understand. Hattie calls it one sided. Stefano stops her and questions how she got here in the first place, believing she had to have had help. Hattie questions him thinking she's not smart enough to pull this off, noting that she pulled off being Marlena for months before. Stefano guesses that someone with an agenda sent her and goes over who else knew. Stefano says that Dr. Rolf is too loyal while Princess Gina is too focused on John which leaves Kate. Stefano declares that Kate will pay for what she has done.

Kate tells Rafe about swapping out Marlena and Hattie. Rafe asks if she has any idea how dangerous this is if Stefano finds out what she has done. Kate argues that Hattie knew what she was getting in to and that she's stalling Stefano while the real Marlena is with her finding a way to save John from Gina. Rafe asks where Marlena is now and hopes she is safe.

Marlena tells John that she won't let anything happen to him. Gina holds the dagger to John's neck and he passed out in her arms. Marlena argues that John needs her help but Gina continues to threaten her. Marlena asks what she has done to John. Gina says she gave him something to relax and keep calm. Gina threatens to slit John's throat if Marlena comes closer so she agrees to stay where she is. Gina orders Marlena to do exactly as she says.

Abigail finishes a call with the police station and finds out that Rafe and Hope are both out of town. Chad wonders what they are doing. Abigail suggests trying Rafe's cell but Chad points out that Rafe showed him where Stefano's hideout was so he wants to go there. Abigail agrees and they walk off together.

Hattie tells Stefano that Kate was upset with how far Princess Gina was taking this whole plan so she wanted to put an end to the whole thing. Stefano argues that Kate was never his enemy so he questions her turning on him now. Hattie calls Kate a decent person. Stefano points out that Kate was willing to keep his secret in the hopes that she would rule DiMera by his side. Hattie guesses her friendship was more important. Stefano can't believe Kate confessed to Hattie of all people. Hattie claims they have a special bond. Stefano questions if Kate planned all of this. Hattie explains that Kate came looking for Gina but found Marlena tied up so she came to ask if she would switch places to stall Stefano. Hattie thinks she did a good job until now. Stefano asks where Marlena is. Hattie tells him that she went looking for John so she assumes they have found each other and are heading back to Salem to go straight to the police so that Stefano will be going to jail. Stefano says never. Hattie hopes he remembers all the people that helped get him in jail. Stefano tells her to enjoy her moment while she can because she just signed her own death warrant.

Gina tells Marlena that she will not try to talk to John or revive him as he will be out for some time. Gina asks how Marlena got here when she left her locked up in Salem so she questions who would help her and take the risk of going against Stefano DiMera. Marlena responds that she has friends who would do anything for her which Gina couldn't understand but they are the ones who came through for her.

Kate tells Rafe that Marlena is following leads in the hotel while she left to follow other leads until it was stopped because Rafe derailed her. Rafe questions if Marlena knows that she was keeping Stefano and Gina's secret. Kate says this is not the time for that and she needs to get back to the hotel since the whole investigation stopped because he's grilling her. Rafe says he's sorry for having questions about her relationship with Stefano DiMera. Kate insists they are on the same side here in trying to help John and Marlena catch Stefano and Gina. Kate asks Rafe to let her help him. Rafe agrees and tells her to call Marlena because he wants to know that she's safe so she calls.

Chad and Abigail go to Stefano's hideout. Chad pulls out his credit card and uses it to break in to the room, where they rush in to find Stefano choking Hattie.

Ciara paces at the Kiriakis Mansion wondering why she hasn't heard anything. She thinks back to her conversation with Clyde, telling him that he can't bust out of prison as it's too risky and there has to be another way. Clyde said there isn't and that they tried her way so now they have to try his.

Ben refuses to leave Clyde behind but Clyde urges him to go and he'll be right behind. The guard comes out and catches them. Clyde yells for Ben to go now as the guard then fires a shot.

Ciara continues thinking back to her conversation with Clyde, saying she hated going behind Ben's back while Clyde told her this was his last chance to avoid execution. Clyde told her to go along with this and help Ben escape or live the rest of her life with the guilt that when he needed her, she let him die.

Ben is shot in the leg while Clyde takes out the guard. Clyde rushes to check on Ben. Ben tells Clyde to leave him here while he runs but Clyde refuses to leave him. Ben feels he will only slow him down and he's getting executed anyway. Clyde tells Ben that this whole plan was for him as he failed him as a father for his whole life so he had one chance to make it right and he's going to do it or die trying.

Kate tells Rafe that Marlena didn't answer her phone so she doesn't know where she is. Rafe can't believe Kate went along with this insanity in the first place and questions what Stefano promised her. Kate thinks back to Stefano telling her his plan to take back DiMera Enterprises with her by his side. Kate tells Rafe they can hash all that out later as they need to get back to the hotel and find out where Marlena is so they head that way.

Gina questions Marlena as to where her friends are and if they know she's here . Marlena says they will know soon enough so Gina should get away while she can. Gina responds that she's not going anywhere without John. Marlena points out that a moment ago, she was about to kill him and guesses that was just talk. Gina threatens that she can kill Marlena. Marlena notes that John would track her down and make her pay if she did so she needs a better plan. Gina tells her not to pretend she's trying to help her. Marlena says she is because she hopes there's a way this doesn't end up tragically for everyone. Marlena adds that Gina can try to get away but Gina says they will find her. Marlena points out there is another way she could escape, by taking her as her hostage.

Chad pulls Stefano off believing it's Steve. Hattie explains that she's not Marlena, she's Hattie and that's not Steve. Abigail questions where his eye patch is. Stefano says to Chad "let go of me, my son" which he questions. Chad then realizes he really is his father.

Ciara sits at home and sends a text message to her mom, that she has a huge decision to make and she doesn't know what to do so she needs her to call her.

Clyde helps Ben up and gets him through the hole in the fence. Another guard calls for them to stop. Ben tells Clyde to come with him but Clyde picks up the first guard's gun and tells Ben to go ahead as he is staying behind.

Rafe and Kate return to the hotel room looking for Marlena but she's gone. Rafe notes her bag is still there. Kate decides they have to go look for her. Rafe says they need a plan and suggest searching the room for clues first. Rafe finds a notepad on the table.

Stefano confirms his identity to Chad. Chad questions him being in Salem this whole time while communicating with him. Stefano says this is why he couldn't see him in person because he couldn't reveal his new face until he knew who he could and couldn't trust. Chad points out that he apparently trusted Kristen. Stefano says that's another story for another time. Chad refuses to believe anything until he can get answers so he's taking him to the police station. Stefano argues that he won't do that to his own father. Chad points out that he just tried to murder Hattie. Hattie adds that she thought she was gone. Stefano calls her an inconsequential liar. Chad remarks that he knows something about lying. Stefano insists he wasn't lying when he promised Chad would have it all, the property, the company, and his inheritance. Stefano declares they will do this together, get rid of Gabi and reclaim DiMera Enterprises themselves with Chad reclaiming his position as CEO next to him. Chad calls that a big promise. Stefano tells Chad this is his birth right. Stefano says he built the company with his sweat and blood, not for himself, but for his family. Stefano says Chad is his family and that's what this has always been about.

Clyde gives Ben an address to go to and says he will meet him there. Ben questions leaving him but Clyde tells him not to worry about him and to just go. Two guards come out with guns while Clyde raises his gun at them and Ben runs off.

Gina questions Marlena wanting her to believe that she would willingly go as her hostage and leave John behind. Marlena responds that she would do anything to save John's life, as he would do for her. Marlena says that Gina could trade her for her freedom. Marlena would think Gina would understand by now that John loves her and always will but if Gina does as she says, she might just get her freedom.

Rafe finds an address on the notepad and tells Kate that is where they are going so they rush out of the hotel room.

Abigail argues that all Stefano ever does is betray Chad and that he's not really his family. Abigail tells Chad that she and the kids are his family. Stefano argues that Abigail lied to him and betrayed him. Abigail says he knows she would never lie to him again while Stefano only cares about himself and would do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Stefano asks what Chad says. Chad declares that Abigail is right and the answer is no. Stefano is sorry to hear that. Chad tells Stefano that he has to take him in now. Stefano says Chad can betray him after all these years but he's not going quietly as he pulls his gun on Chad. Stefano declares that Chad will not stop him or follow him. Chad says he can't let him leave and questions him disappearing. Stefano warns him not to follow him or it will be a mistake. Abigail argues that Stefano wouldn't shoot his own son. Stefano responds that maybe he wouldn't, but he wouldn't mind shooting her.

Rafe and Kate break in to the undisclosed location to find John passed out. They try waking him up to ask where Marlena is.

Chad yells at Stefano to put the gun down. Abigail tells him not to do this. Stefano argues that Abigail has been a thorn in his side since she married his son and eliminating her would be doing him a great favor. Hattie calls him a monster. Chad questions Stefano shooting the mother of his grandchildren and adds that if he hurts her, he will never forgive him. Stefano argues that Abigail doesn't deserve his loyalty after murdering his brother Andre and sleeping with his other brother Stefan. Chad yells at him not to talk about his wife like that. Stefano calls her a murderer and a slut, who took the life from one of his sons. Abigail argues that he just can't stand that Chad chose her over him. Chad yells at him to stop. Stefano declares he will let Abigail live for now because he has better things to do. Chad asks where he's going. Stefano responds that Marlena is still out there so he will find her if it's the last thing he ever does. Stefano goes to leave but Chad rushes to stop him and they struggle with each other until the gun goes off and a shot is fired...

The guards order Clyde to drop the gun which he does as another guard handcuffs Clyde while he wishes for Ben to go be free.

Ben escapes the prison and wanders through the woods until he gets to the address that Clyde gave him, where he finds Ciara on her motorcycle.
