Days of Our Lives Update Wednesday 1/29/20

Rafe returns to Shawn in the interrogation room. Rafe asks what "Hope" said. Shawn responds that she thinks he's having trouble getting over their divorce and doesn't want to let her go. Rafe asks what Shawn thinks. Shawn reveals he doesn't think his mother is lying - because he doesn't think that woman is his mother. Rafe asks who he was talking to, if not Hope. Shawn tells him that he can't be totally sure but he thinks they are dealing with Princess Gina.

Princess Gina returns to her office and pulls out a cigarette. Kate walks in and demands to know what she and Stefano are up to now. Gina tells her to lower her voice. Kate orders her to talk. Gina asks what makes her think she will tell her anything. Kate threatens to tell Marlena that she and Stefano are not Hope and Steve if she doesn't.

Marlena goes to the hospital and calls John, leaving a message that they need to talk about "Hope". Kayla comes over and asks Marlena if everything is alright. Marlena says she was just trying to reach John in Prague. Kayla questions what he's doing there. Marlena explains that John and Steve are trying to find Stefano.

Kristen prepares to leave her room at the Salem Inn when Chad shows up at her door. Kristen says she has to get to work. Chad says they have to have a conversation about their father. Kristen says she doesn't have time for that but Chad tells her to make time. Chad wants to hear every detail of her meeting with Stefano. Kristen thinks back to Stefano revealing his identity to her. Chad asks Kristen what Stefano said. Kristen responds that it was a revealing encounter.

Anna calls Stefano pure evil and she doesn't want him dragging Tony back into his web. Anna complains that Stefano sucks the life out of his children and doesn't have the guts to show his face. Anna adds that Stefano ripped her world apart, destroyed thousands of lives, and never paid for it. Anna talks about the last time she saw Stefano, locked up in a cage all alone. Anna calls Stefano a weak, pathetic coward. Stefano as "Steve" then snaps and yells at Anna to shut the hell up. Tony questions "Steve" speaking to his wife like that. "Steve" argues that there's only so much he can take and he's finished with this charade. John stops "Steve" and asks what's gotten in to him.

Rafe questions Shawn thinking "Hope" is actually Princess Gina which he confirms. Rafe brings up this happening before and asks if he thinks it's happening again. Shawn says this is different and explains that Princess Gina is dead. Rafe asks how she could be in Salem then. Shawn explains that last time, Hope was brainwashed in to thinking she was Princess Gina so he thinks that's what is happening again.

Kate wants an update on what Princess Gina and Stefano are up to. She tells Kate that John and "Steve" are in Europe searching for Stefano while she is acting as Marlena's guardian. Kate asks what her plan is. Gina asks if she's worried she's going to harm Marlena. Kate tells her to either tell her what she's going to do, or she can tell Rafe after he arrests her.

Kayla didn't know "Steve" was leaving the country but they aren't married anymore anyways. Marlena apologizes if she upset her. Kayla insists she's not upset and asks if they've found Stefano. Marlena says not that she knows of as John hasn't called her back. Kayla hopes they are successful. Marlena asks if Kayla expects "Steve" to come back to Salem. Kayla responds that she has no expectations and doesn't care because as far as she's concerned, Steve can leave town for good.

John questions "Steve" as to what that was all about. "Steve" complains about Anna going on and on. Tony argues that "Steve" has no right to speak to Anna that way. Anna questions why it struck such a nerve with "Steve" and why he has a problem with her trashing Stefano DiMera if he hates him as much as she does. John agrees and questions why "Steve" is sticking up for Stefano.

Chad asks Kristen how the encounter was revealing. Kristen says she hadn't seen Stefano in a long time so she almost didn't recognize him. Kristen tells Chad that their father has come back to them. Kristen talks about feeling the love in his embrace. Chad questions why Stefano just turned around and left then.

John asks "Steve" again why he's sticking up for Stefano. "Steve" argues they were just wasting time listening to Anna whine and complain instead of finding Stefano. Tony warns him to watch his tone. Anna calls Stefano a monster. "Steve" asks if Tony thinks of his father as a monster. Anna argues that Stefano kept her and Tony apart for two decades so she will never forgive him. John says Stefano has tried to destroy all of their lives at one point or another. Tony feels Anna has a right to say this. "Steve" admits that as long as Tony admits that Anna is a major pain in the ass.

Shawn tells Rafe that he feels the brainwashing is happening again. Shawn points out that Gina wasn't a cop, she smoked, and had always been in love with John. They talk about Rafe finding the tiara which Shawn notes Princess Gina would wear. Rafe questions if this could really be happening. Shawn talks about the way she barged in without even noticing him, which his mother would never do. Shawn adds that Gina hates him while he felt her hug was forced. Shawn says that she also didn't ask or say anything about Claire which tells him that she is not his mother. Rafe questions who would be responsible for this. Shawn says it's the same as last time; Stefano DiMera.

John suggests "Steve" chill out a bit. "Steve" refuses and argues that Tony and Anna weren't around the last time they went hunting for Stefano while Anna ended up shooting him. Anna argues that if Steve didn't get in the way of that bullet, Stefano would be dead today and the world would be a better place. "Steve" remarks that the Phoenix always rises from the ashes.

Shawn tells Rafe that it had been months before they realized what Stefano had done while he had Gina living as Hope but working for Stefano. Shawn asks about Stefano resurfacing. Rafe says they think so. Shawn adds that Dr. Rolf was always willing to do Stefano's bidding. Rafe remembers Dr. Rolf was in town about a year ago when Hope started acting different. Shawn guesses that Stefano had Dr. Rolf get revenge by bringing Princess Gina back from the dead. Rafe asks what to do now.

Gina tells Kate to let them deal with this. Kate says she already made it clear to Stefano that she won't let anything bad happen to Stefano. Gina assures that Stefano is still obsessed with Marlena and he sees this as a last chance. Kate compares that to Gina and John. Gina brings up that she and John do have a romantic history that needs to be reignited. Kate calls it twisted while Gina calls it true love. Kate asks how this impossible dream of hers will work. Gina says it will be quite easy and the best part is that John and Marlena will never see it coming.

Marlena questions Kayla not caring if Steve never comes back to Salem. Kayla says there is nothing for him here anymore since his kids are gone, Adrienne's dead, and he doesn't get along with Jack while she is with Justin now. Kayla adds that "Steve" made it pretty clear he's moved on with another woman and that she has captured his heart.

"Steve" says they can say what they want about Stefano DiMera but he's always beaten the odds and outsmarted everyone who ever tried to take him down. "Steve" adds that Stefano is always one step ahead and they will never catch him while listening to Anna. Anna remarks that it sounds like "Steve" actually admires Stefano. "Steve" responds that he does.

Kristen tells Chad that she assumes Stefano left because she refused to hand over her DiMera stock. Chad asks if he said where he was going or when he would be back. Kristen says no after she just disappointed him. Chad can't believe Stefano didn't trust him enough to meet face to face. Kristen advises him not to take it personally as Stefano was just being cautious about who he reveals himself to. Chad notes that she said "reveal" again. Kristen says that Stefano likes being secretive. Chad questions Stefano meeting with her and not him. Kristen says it's just because she had something he desperately needs. Chad asks how Stefano looked since she said she had trouble recognizing him. Kristen says for a man who has been to Hell and back, he looked better than expected.

John never thought he'd hear "Steve" say he admires Stefano. Anna calls it crazy. "Steve" explains that he's just saying Stefano is a worthy adversary. "Steve" says if Tony doesn't have anything useful to add to the investigation, he would prefer he gets out of the way. Tony calls him a rude, insulting ass. "Steve" argues that Anna has a big mouth that will get them in trouble and calls her unhinged. Tony asks how "Steve" would feel if he insulted Kayla the way he's insulting Anna. Tony wants "Steve" to apologize or else they will have problems.

Shawn tells Rafe that they need to track down Dr. Rolf to force him to undo whatever he did to Hope. Rafe informs him that Dr. Rolf and they don't know where he's at because Stefano helped him escape so it will be hard to find him. Rafe wants to confront Princess Gina but Shawn says last time he did that, she tried to kill him. Shawn guarantees she won't go down without a fight.

Gina tells Kate that if she and Stefano do their jobs, it's only a matter of time before John and Marlena are theirs. Gina explains that John and Marlena will each believe the other is dead. Kate refuses to sit by while she tries these deranged plans. Gina dares her to try and stop them as she pulls out her gun, saying she's tired of Kate's threats.

Rafe understands why Shawn is hesitant to confront Gina after last time. Shawn calls Gina a lunatic and a cold-blooded killer. Rafe says they can't just let her run around living life as Hope if she's dangerous.

Gina argues that Kate is so determined to ruin everything. Gina thought Kate was going to be rewarded by Stefano for supporting them. Gina adds that Kate's life is at stake here as well. Kate asks if she's going to shoot her. Gina warns that if Kate blows up their plan, she will lose everything that Stefano promised her and she would be charged as an accessory to their crimes. Kate responds that she just wants to protect her friends. Gina warns that if Kate entertains the idea of throwing her and Stefano under the bus, her friends won't be able to save her.

Kayla asks if Marlena has heard anything about "Steve's" other woman. Marlena doesn't know if it will make things better or worse, but she reveals that there is no other woman and that "Steve" just said that to push her away. Kayla feels that doesn't make any sense since he's the one that left. Marlena says that's just what he said to John. Kayla talks about how "Steve" went on and on about this woman and she could tell he meant it. Marlena suggests it was an act. Kayla wonders if he lied to John but Marlena doesn't think so. Kayla says she is completely confused. Marlena asks if it changes things for her if there was no other woman.

"Steve" informs Tony that Kayla is with Justin Kiriakis now and he couldn't be happier. Tony questions him not minding seeing Kayla with someone else after all those years. "Steve" says he has his life and she has hers so he will not apologize to Anna. Anna wishes John luck in finding Stefano but says she won't count on it if he's with "Steve". Tony is sorry this didn't turn out how he hoped. John thanks Tony anyways. Tony adds that if he does hear from Stefano, he'll be in touch. Tony then exits with Anna. John tells "Steve" it's just them now so he's going to ask him one more time, what the hell has gotten in to him.

Shawn agrees with Rafe that they need to try to stop Princess Gina but they can't barge in there without a plan. Rafe can't believe they are talking about Hope like she's a violent criminal. Rafe is glad Shawn came to help him put the pieces together as he's ready for the Princess's reign to end as they exit the interrogation room.

After Kate leaves, Gina remarks that she knew Kate would eventually see it her way as she then picks up her phone.

Kayla tells Marlena that Steve made a choice to leave her behind so she chose to move on to a wonderful man. Marlena admits that Kayla and Justin do seem very happy together. Kayla gets paged away. Kayla thanks Marlena for telling her the truth then walks away. Marlena checks her phone and then exits the hospital.

Chad can't help but feel that Kristen is leaving something out about her meeting with Stefano. Kristen claims she told him everything that happened. Chad decides he'll take her word for it. Chad says that if Stefano is really gone, he wants them to go after Gabi themselves. Chad suggests Kristen pool her stock with what he has acquired. Kristen says she hates to let him down but she has to keep her stock. Kristen explains that if she gives him her shares then Gabi will fire her from Basic Black. Chad argues that if they get rid of Gabi, Kristen can stay running the company. Kristen argues that if she helps Chad obliterate Gabi, then Brady will think she's the same Kristen as before. Chad tells her to prove that she's not. Kristen says that's what she is trying to do and that's why she is at Basic Black, to prove to Brady that they belong together. Chad questions her being fine with Gabi running their family business into the ground. Kristen decides she needs to be selfish here since she lost her baby and almost lost Brady so now she needs to think about what comes next. Kristen says who knows, maybe Stefano will surprise them.

"Steve" tells John that he was just reacting to Anna's insanity and he doesn't know what Tony sees in her. John thinks it was nice of them to come give them information and it could lead to something. "Steve" declares that as far as he's concerned, Tony can take Anna and disappear. "Steve" says they've wasted enough time with Tony and Anna so it's time for their next move. "Steve" decides he will go check in with his contacts in town but John can't go because they might get nervous if they see him but he won't be long. "Steve" tells John that he'll see him back at the hotel as he exits the cafe.

Rafe and Shawn go to Hope's office but she's no longer there. They see a cigarette in the ash tray. Rafe comments that it looks like she left in a hurry. Shawn declares that they need to find Hope before Gina does something to wreck her life for good.

Marlena goes home and tells "Hope" that she got her message so she asks if something's happened. "Hope" says no but it's about to.

Chad goes to the Brady Pub where Kate asks what Kristen said about her meeting with Stefano. Chad tells her that she stuck to her story that she turned down giving him her shares and he told her that he was leaving the country. Kate asks if she said anything about how he looked. Chad says that she said he appeared in good health which he finds hard to believe as he felt that Kristen wasn't telling the entire truth about Stefano.

John returns to the hotel room, looks around the room and then goes through "Steve's" bag where he finds Stefano's ring. "Steve" then enters the room so John questions what he's doing with Stefano's ring.
