Gabi is in her office when she gets a call from Eli, who is in Rome. Eli tells her how beautiful the city is and wishes she was there to see it with him. Gabi responds that she doesn't need him to be her love but to be her head of security and she needs him to get this done fast. Eli tells her not to worry as he will track down Kristen and persuade her to sign over her stock to Gabi. Gabi urges that he has to do it fast or else there will be a convent that is a major shareholder in DiMera Enterprises.

At the church, Lani tells Kristen that she just had her interview with the reverend mother, who asked about the nature of forgiveness. Lani says they have worked so hard to get to this point. Kristen guesses she is still not sure. Lani asks if Kristen is sure.

At John and Marlena's apartment, John gives Brady his old baseball card collection to pass on to Tate. Brady asks about the flowers on the table and reads the note from "S". Brady asks if it's from Sami. John says he thought that at first too but he was wrong so now he's kind of leaning towards Stefano.

Eric brings Mickie to see Marlena in her office at the hospital. Marlena looks over her and then stops so Eric asks if something is wrong with McKenzie. Marlena comments that she seems a little lethargic to her and notes that she's running a high temperature.

Xander tells Sarah that he has to go as they both know that's what is best for Mickie. Sarah stops him and says there is something she has to say first. Sarah then grabs Xander and kisses him. Xander jokes that he thought she had something to say. Sarah thinks she said it as they continue kissing.

Brady tells John that dead men don't send flowers. John suggests it could be Stefano's way of announcing he's still alive. Brady agrees that it is his style. John asks what Brady thinks. Brady thinks that if Stefano is still alive, Kristen might be with him.

Kristen tells Lani that she asked her first. Lani says when she first heard about a life of hard work and quiet contemplation, it sounded so right but she was in a really bad place when she decided to stay here. Kristen says she was too but she has more sins to contemplate than most so she thinks this will be her life's work. Lani asks if she's fine with just letting go of the women they were and all their goods. Kristen says all the DiMera stock is like a target on your back where everyone wants what you have but giving up on finding love won't be easy. Lani declares that they take their vows tonight and they are closing the door on Eli and Brady. Kristen says it will be hard to never see them again but they have made their choice. Lani states that she really has found peace here. Kristen says she has too and Brady is now part of the past while the church is their present and future.

Eli tells Gabi that once Kristen finds out they are willing to pay more than the market value for those shares, she'll tell the sisters that she had a change of heart. Eli doubts the convent will take her to court for backing out of the deal. Gabi brings up that Kristen loves having the power to screw things up for whoever is in charge of DiMera. Eli assures that he'll get her to come around and then Gabi will be in control. Chad enters Gabi's office and orders her to get off the phone. Gabi asks what he wants. Chad questions her not knowing.

JJ arrives in Rome and hides around the corner from where Eli is, as Eli comments on traveling the world to see Kristen DiMera.

Xander and Sarah kiss in to bed. Xander reminds her that he just about to walk out the door so he asks why she's doing this as they continue kissing.

Eric argues that Mickie wasn't like this a few minutes ago. Marlena says a virus can happen and suggests getting her checked out.

Gabi claims she thought Chad left for Paris. Chad argues that she knows damn well that he didn't go anywhere as he got to the air strip and found out that Eli took the jet to Rome. Gabi mocks that as a disappointment. Chad questions a security guy outranking a member of the family. Gabi says the security guy has the CEO's best interest at heart. Gabi tells Chad that she knows he was heading to Rome to talk his sister in to handing her stock over to him. Chad argues that she has no idea what he was planning. Gabi tells him to admit that he's trying to get rid of her but he can't because she's going to get to Kristen first.

Lani can't believe how at peace Kristen seems. Kristen responds that she spent her whole life thinking about how she was going to get what she wanted. Kristen says it's easier to expedite her sins than to think about them. Kristen says her baby girl is gone and she took it out on that poor nurse. Kristen wishes things were done differently as she flashes back to being in the hospital a year ago after having her baby. Brady joined Kristen in the room as Haley then brought their baby to them. Back in the present, Kristen tells Lani that her baby would still be alive and she would be a different person now but she didn't live. Kristen plans to do her penance here and pray that no one ever finds her here..

JJ pulls out a bottle of pills and takes one as he hides around the corner, listening in on Eli making a call. Eli says he was calling to see if his room was ready. Eli asks for a car and driver to be arranged as he has a very important meeting in an hour. Eli hangs up and heads for the hotel. JJ goes to follow him but stops when he imagines Haley stopping him and questioning why he went through all the trouble to get here. JJ tells his vision of Haley that Eli has a meeting with the woman who murdered her and he's going to make her pay for taking Haley away from him. JJ tries to rush off but his vision of Haley appears in front of him, saying she can't let him do this.

John guesses Brady hasn't heard from Kristen which he confirms. John says if Stefano was alive, Kristen would've headed right for him. Brady mentions that Kristen kept saying she was going to become a better person for their baby but now the baby is gone so she's retreated to a dark place. John can only imagine she's gone to a darker place if she's with Stefano. Brady hopes she's not with him. Brady says he can't help it as he wants her to be okay.

Lani tells Kristen that she knows what it's like to lose a child but the grief is what brought her and Eli together. Kristen knows she still thinks about Eli all the time. Lani can't help but wonder where she would be now if she did things differently and if she just told Eli what Gabi planned to do if they got married. Lani imagines telling Eli about Gabi. Kristen tells Lani that before she takes her final vows, she needs to think about the fact that she can still tell Eli the truth.

Chad asks Gabi if Eli has gone to make a deal with Kristen. Chad tells her that Kristen is crazy but he's her brother so she won't sell him out for someone like Gabi. Gabi brings up that Kristen wants to give her shares to a convent so she wanted to take advantage of the situation. Gabi argues that Kristen won't say no to her offer. Chad argues that Gabi doesn't know Kristen as well as she thinks because she always puts family first. Gabi mocks that being why she's going to give her share of their family fortune to a bunch of nuns. Chad is sure she has a plan. Gabi says once Eli tells her about her offer, she will see the light. Chad knows she is wrong. Gabi tells Chad he can always fly commercial. Chad says he can't because there is a storm over the Atlantic. Gabi remarks that she can't control the weather but she can control who works for her so she fires Chad.

Sarah tells Xander that she's sorry for throwing herself at him but he surprised her by volunteering to move out of his family home so that Eric wouldn't fight her for custody and it just hit her how much he really cares about her and Mickie. Xander jokes that it's a proper sendoff and says he's doing the right thing by Mickie. Sarah tells him that she's still going to miss him as they continue kissing.

Kayla checks on Mickie, noting that her temperature is 103 but she's not fussy. Kayla asks if she's had any behavioral changes. Eric says he hasn't been in the picture long enough to know her normal pattern but it didn't seem like she was sleeping a lot. Kayla guesses the virus will be gone in a couple days but she needs to make sure it's not a bacterial infection so she wants to admit her to the hospital and get her on IV fluids as well as run tests. Eric decides to call Sarah.

Xander and Sarah begin to undress as they kiss until Sarah's phone rings so they stop so she can answer. Eric tells Sarah that Mickie is running a fever of 103. Sarah notes that she wasn't feverish this morning. Eric informs her that Kayla wants to admit her so Sarah says she'll be on her way. Sarah hangs up and tells Xander so Xander decides he will drive as they rush out.

JJ tells his vision of Haley that he has to do this because Kristen took her away from him and he can't let her get away with that. She comments on JJ being high and talking about getting even with people. JJ says he changed when someone killed his girlfriend. She reminds JJ of when he stopped her from killing herself. JJ declares he's going to make sure Kristen pays for what she did. Haley tells him that it won't bring him back so he'd be throwing his life away for nothing. JJ repeats that Kristen took her away from him and got away with murder so he questions if he's just supposed to make peace with that. JJ then walks off.

Kristen tells Lani that there is nothing outside these walls for her now but she thinks there is for Lani so if she's having any doubts, she can find Eli to tell him that Gabi forced her to hurt him so badly. Lani says she's been over that in her head a million times and still comes up with the same thing; Gabi could find out and kill Julie out of spite. Kristen asks if she thinks she would really do that. Lani says Gabi hates her for shooting Stefan. Kristen knows that was an accident but Lani says Gabi doesn't see it that way so she can't be responsible for Julie's death too. Lani declares the best thing for her to do is to stay far away from Eli and Salem for good. Kristen wonders if Lani is here to do God's work or if she's just hiding.

Chad tells Gabi that she can't fire him because she still has to answer to the board and Mr. Shin won't fire Stefano DiMera's son. Gabi argues that she's pretty good at getting anything she wants from Mr. Shin. Chad tells her to go ahead and he'll tell the board about how she drove Abigail to a mental institution. Gabi brings up that Abigail refused to press charges so it would be his word against hers. Chad suggests Abigail could change her mind and could also write a story about it in the Spectator. Gabi insists Abigail won't do that. Chad says she will if Gabi fires him. Chad asks if Gabi wants Arianna to find out what kind of person her mom is. Gabi warns him to leave her daughter out of this.

Sarah and Xander go to the hospital. Eric questions what Xander is doing there. Sarah asks where Mickie is. Eric says Kayla is drawing blood for tests and Marlena is with her. Sarah argues that she's a doctor too so she wants to be with her baby. Xander asks where she is. Eric tells Xander to get lost. Kayla comes out to take the blood samples to the lab and instructs Eric to take Sarah to see Mickie. Eric stops Xander and tells him he's not coming anywhere near his daughter.

John asks if Brady has tried to track Kristen down. Brady admits he did but he gave up as he was dealing with his own demons and she was in such a depression. John knows Brady thought she had changed after getting pregnant. Brady says she did but he can't stop wondering what kind of person she might have become if their baby hadn't died. Brady flashes back to a year ago being together at the hospital after having their baby. Brady tells John it's hard not to think of what might have been. Brady says it just killed Kristen when their baby didn't make it and he wishes there was something he could've done to help her.

Lani doesn't think she ever thought of being here as hiding. Kristen suggests she pray on it before taking her vows. Lani says the reverend mother says she has to find forgiveness in her heart for Gabi which is a tall order. Kristen relates that she said she has to forgive herself for all the things she's done. Lani questions how she forgives Gabi or herself for what she did to Eli. Kristen suggests they pray for guidance and maybe they will get lucky.

Chad tells Gabi that he would never hurt Arianna on purpose but if Abigail reports on what Gabi did to her, she will find out. Gabi argues that her child has already gone through more than most people should. Chad says now that Will is in prison, Gabi should think hard about going after him because he will come after her and the effect won't be pretty. Gabi decides Chad can have his job back but as soon as she gets Kristen's shares, she will have the clout to get rid of him and the board if her demands are not met.

Eli goes to his hotel in Rome and calls to let his driver know he will be down in 20 minutes. Eli goes to the bathroom while JJ enters the room, after having told the front desk that he was Eli's bodyguard. JJ begins to search Eli's bag and finds his gun.

Eric threatens to throw Xander out if he doesn't leave. Xander argues that he took care of Mickie for months and now she got sick in one day. Sarah tells Xander that she will tell him whatever they say and asks him to stay there. Xander decides he has no choice so Sarah thanks him and heads inside with Eric.

John tells Brady not to beat himself up because he couldn't get Kristen through this when he did everything he could. John says Kristen always said she wanted to find love but he thinks she's just a loner. Brady says after everything Kristen did to John and his life, he could've just told him he was on his own but he didn't so he thanks him for that. Brady just hopes Kristen is able to find that kind of comfort somewhere. John says as long as it's not from Stefano.

Kristen tells Lani that this has been a long journey. Lani calls it the hardest one of her life. Kristen says it was worth every step. Kristen plans to take her vows and stay here forever but knows Lani is having doubts. Lani wants to stay here a little bit longer. Kristen reminds her that reverend mother and the others will be waiting in the chapel. Lani assures she will be there soon so Kristen exits.

Eli comes out from the bathroom and goes to his bag but decides on no guns as he exits the room. JJ goes to follow him out but his vision of Haley appears again, telling him not to do this. JJ says he has his own reasons. She argues it's the drugs talking and if he loves her, he'll give this up. JJ declares that it's because he loves her, he has to do it as he exits the room.

Marlena comes out so Xander asks how Mickie is. Marlena responds that she's sleeping like a baby. Xander argues that he should be with her because he's the one she knows. Marlena argues that Eric would've been with her every moment since she was born if he knew he was her father but that was kept from him so he has every right to be angry with Xander and Sarah. Marlena tells Xander that if he really cares about Mickie, he should just go home. Xander refuses to leave and says if she cries for him, he will be there for her because he loves that girl like his own. Marlena assures she is in good hands and walks away.

Sarah and Eric watch over Mickie. Sarah wishes she didn't have to go through this. Eric apologizes for not noticing her fever earlier. Sarah says he can't blame himself and that the IV fluids will help bring her fever down so she will be alright.

Gabi and Chad decide the gloves are off now. Gabi says she knew Chad was out to get her the moment he came back from town so now it's an out and out war. Chad says he will win the war so she can enjoy sitting in the big chair because it won't last long. Chad declares that he will enjoy watching her go up in flames as he then exits the office.

Lani prays asking how to forgive Gabi for ruining her life and asks if she has the right to take the sacred vows if she can't do this. Lani asks if this is the right path for her, begging God for some kind of sign. Eli then arrives looking for Kristen but is shocked to see Lani.

Kristen walks outside in the garden and prays in front of a statue of Mary for them to be made worthy of the promises of Christ. JJ then arrives with his gun aimed at Kristen.
