Episode #12142 ~ Victor and Victoria clash. Mariah has an awkward encounter. Sally extends an invitation to Jack.

Provided By Suzanne

Victoria: Dad, you have got to be kidding me. You read the gossip about ashland being sick, and you actually believe it?

Victor: Sweetheart, I know what I heard and what he said.

Victoria: And what exactly did you hear?

Victor: He said, "I'm not dead yet." That gives credence to the rumor, doesn't it? Especially since he just had a heart attack.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Ashland has a dark sense of humor. It was a joke. He -- he's been hearing all of these people speculating about his health, and he thinks it's funny.

Victor: [ Sighs heavily ] So, where there's smoke, there's no fire? Is that what you're saying?

Tara: Thank you.

Sally: What do you got there?

Tara: Some brownies for harrison.

Sally: Planning a little family celebration with kyle now that summer's gone?

Tara: No. I don't even know that I'm gonna see kyle tonight. He might want some time alone.

Sally: Well, it's better to be prepared, right? Sometimes the best-laid plans actually work.

Tara: You seem relaxed now that summer is headed to milan. You already moved into her office yet?

Sally: Not yet, but my smile is growing bigger with every passing hour that she has been on that plane.

Tara: You might want to tone it down a little. You could risk giving yourself away.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Don't worry. I'm playing it smart. You just happen to be the only person that I can actually be totally honest with. And here's some more truth. It worked out well for everyone, including summer.

Tara: I don't think she sees it that way.

Sally: Once she has time to think about things rationally, she will. Even though she talked about being able to handle you and harrison being a huge part of kyle's life, they were headed for heartbreak. They talk about this big, epic romance that they've had over these years, but one of them always ends up walking away.

Tara: You might be right. Some things aren't meant to be, no matter how much you wish they were.

Sally: Are you talking about summer and kyle or ashland's illness?

Tara: I'm not discussing that trashy gossip.

Sally: Yeah. No. Let's just focus on the positive. Summer will be landing in italy soon, the sun will be rising there, and it will be the first day of the rest of her life -- and, of course, a brand-new day for both you and me.

Phyllis: Do you need help?

Kyle: Thanks. No.

Phyllis: Checking out?

Kyle: Yes. You can send me a bill for the mini bar.

Phyllis: It's gonna be weird not having you and summer here. How are you doing?

Kyle: I've been better, but thanks to summer leaving me so many times, I have a pretty thick "summer dumped me again" skin.

Phyllis: Okay... are you moving in to the abbott house?

Kyle: For now. Harrison's there. I want to be close to my son.

Phyllis: And his mom?

Mariah: Okay. Yes! Yes, yes, yes! Ow! Get it, girl!

Abby: Uh, what is it?

Mariah: What? What?

Abby: Is it the baby? You were screaming. What were you screaming about?

Mariah: No, no, it's nothing. I'm sorry. I wasn't screaming. I, um -- I was rocking out

[Chuckling] I guess? I apologize. Tessa just posted a new video of her working on some music, and it's absolutely amazing. I mean, it's already got, like, thousands of views already.

Abby: Well, that's wonderful. You'll have to send it to me 'cause I want to hear it. Whew!

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: Yeah, I -- I'm just really happy that she's -- she's working on new stuff. You know, I thought maybe living here might...

Abby: Stifle her creativity?

Mariah: No. I didn't say that. You did.

[ Chuckles ] But it's actually done the opposite, you know? It's been really inspiring for her, and I love seeing her like this.

Abby: Well, maybe change is good for her creative output, and you guys have had a lot of change recently.

Mariah: Yes, we have. So, I was thinking I wanted to do something nice for her, and she loves those desserts on the menu at society, the pastelitos.

Abby: Guava and cream cheese. Crazy delicious.

Mariah: Oh, they're so good. Um, so I am gonna go pick some up and surprise her.

Abby: That's sweet, literally. But, no, no, I will pick it up for you.

Mariah: No! That's nice, but you don't have to do that. I promise.

Abby: Come on. You have done so much for us recently. That's the least I can do.

Mariah: Alright.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Ben.

Stitch: Hey, abby.

[ Chuckles ]

Abby: I wasn't expecting to see you again.

[ Both chuckle ]

Go on... put yourselves

through all that pain.

Stitch: I hope it's not a bad time.

Abby: No, no. It's fine. Um, what's going on?

Stitch: I picked up a gift for the baby, just a little something. You can open it whenever.

Abby: Wow. Uh... [ Laughs ] That is so thoughtful. Thank you.

Stitch: You're welcome.

Abby: Why don't you come in, say hi to mariah?

Stitch: Okay. Mariah.

Mariah: Hi!

Stitch: Mariah.

Mariah: Oh, my gosh. I heard you were swinging around town. This is crazy.

Stitch: Hi. It is great to see you. How's sharon doing?

Mariah: She is wonderful. She's happily married to a cop.

Abby: Chance's partner.

Mariah: Yep. And they are on their second honeymoon.

Stitch: Well, good for her.

[ Laughter ] Abby told me what you're doing -- the surrogacy. That's an amazing, generous act.

Mariah: Yeah, it's 'cause I'm an amazing and generous friend.

Stitch: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, that's the rumor.

Mariah: Uh, no, we're just -- we're all doing our best to try to give this little guy the best life possible.

Stitch: So, it's a boy? Well, that -- that's fantastic. I bet chance can't wait to do father/son stuff, you know? Um...they have a lot of good times ahead of them.

Abby: Well, I'm pretty sure that sons can hang out with their moms, too.

Stitch: Uh, I'm -- I'm sure. I'm sure. Is, uh -- is chance here? I'd love to congratulate him, offer some new-dad advice.

Abby: He's actually, um, away on assignment.

Mariah: He's saving the world.

Stitch: Oh. When's he returning?

Abby: Soon. We hope.

Stitch: He'll be here for the birth, though, right?

Abby: Absolutely. Yes. He will definitely be back for that.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Mariah: Oh, it's like a hot spot right now here.

[ Chuckles ]

Abby: Uh, it's -- it's devon. He texted me that he's coming.

Stitch: Oh, wow.

[ Door opens ]

Abby: Hi.

Devon: Hey, hey.

Abby: Come on in.

Devon: How are my favorite ladies?

[ Chuckles ] Stitch!

Stitch: [ Chuckling ] Hey.

Devon: What are you doing here, man? How you doing?

Stitch: Hey, how you doing, man?

Abby: Ben's in town for an event at the hospital.

Mariah: We were just filling him in on the baby and chance and everything.

Devon: Nice.

Abby: You should know that devon is a very big part of our very modern family. Like I said before, it takes a village.

[ Light laughter ]

Stitch: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Phyllis, I can't believe you just said that.

Phyllis: Mm. Oh, I apologize. I didn't mean it in the way that you're taking it.

Kyle: Oh, well, how did you mean it?

Phyllis: I know you have zero interest in tara. I know that. I'm very, very protective of my daughter. I'm sorry that your relationship had to end over all of this mess.

Kyle: Me too.

Jack: All packed up and ready to go. Isn't there a bellhop or somebody who can help you with your bags?

Phyllis: He wanted to do it on his own.

Jack: Hey, this time at home surrounded by family will be good for you -- and harrison.

Kyle: There are two things that can bring me joy right now -- my work and my son. There's no reason for me to waste time on anything else. See you at the house.

Jack: It's like he's punishing himself for the whole thing.

Phyllis: Yep. He'll be okay, right?

Jack: Yeah, he'll lick his wounds, he'll get his feet back on the ground, and... I have a question for you.

Phyllis: Ask me anything.

Jack: Why did summer really leave town?

Victoria: You know, it's fascinating. Ever since ashland and I have become friends, it seems like everyone is hanging on every single move that we make.

Victor: Isn't that an exaggeration?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, that's not how it feels, dad. I mean, look at you. You're not one to traffic in gossip, and yet here you are worried about a joke that ashland made in response to a rumor.

Victor: Straight out, I'm concerned, okay? If rumors about his health are true, then why the hell would you add another layer of complication to your relationship?

Victoria: So, all of your questions about ashland's health are out of concern for me?

Victor: What else would it be?

Victoria: I think that you are interested in locke's business.

Victor: I already own it.

Victoria: Dad, you own his media division. The rest of his empire is far more valuable, and don't insult me by pretending like you don't know that.

Victor: Newman media is enough for me, alright? I don't need --

Victoria: You know, you're not the first person to stop by with questions today. Mom and billy and, oh, even lily have all checked in about how sick ashland is.

Victor: And what does that tell you? That everyone is concerned about you.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] I'm an adult. I don't need people worrying about me having a broken heart.

Victor: Ohh. Broken heart? Has it gone that far already?

Victoria: What is it that makes ashland so risky? Is it his divorce? Because, hey, we've all been there. Or maybe it's his position of power. I am the ceo of newman enterprises. I have just as much power as he does. So I wonder -- what is everybody so worried about?

Victor: Are you now asking a rhetorical question?

Victoria: As a matter of fact, yes, it is -- because i don't really care how you answer. It's none of your business. I could be friends with ashland. I could have an affair with ashland. Oh, hell, I could even marry the man, and it would have nothing to do with you or mom or billy or nick or anyone but me and ashland. And I'm gonna try to say this in the most polite possible way, dad. I just wish that everyone would butt the hell out of my life! Get more out of summer...

Stitch: Wow, so you're gonna be the biological father? That is awesome.

[ Chuckles ] I am so happy for you.

Abby: Thank you.

Stitch: You're gonna be a great mother. And I'm sure chance feels the same way.

Devon: Oh, he definitely does.

Abby: So, ben, um, how long are you in town? When do you have to get back to work and back to max?

Stitch: You know, abby, i didn't tell you everything when I saw you at crimson lights. Uh, max -- his condition has gotten, uh, worse. He -- he doesn't really recognize me anymore.

Abby: Oh, ben.

Mariah: I'm so sorry.

Stitch: You know, I've been hoping that he'll get better, but I don't -- I don't think that's happening.

Devon: That's really rough, man. I'm sorry to hear that.

Stitch: Thanks. You know, it was great seeing everyone again. I should get to the retirement party.

Abby: Thank you for coming by.

Stitch: Yeah. Hey, you want to come with me?

[ Chuckles ] I hate going to these kind of things alone.

Abby: Right now?

Stitch: Yeah. Well, I mean, you know... never mind. It -- it was a last-second idea. I just -- I was probably out of line.

Abby: No, no. It's fine. And I-I really appreciate the invitation. It's just, um, I'm gonna have to pass.

Stitch: [ Chuckles ] Alright. Well, I'm gonna head out then. It was great to see all of you. Best of luck with your village. That is a lucky baby. Alright.

Mariah: See you.

Stitch: And, um... it was wonderful to see you again, abby. Take care, guys.

Abby: See you.

Devon: You too, man.

[ Door opens ]

Mariah: Mm.

[ Door closes ]

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: What's going on in here?

Victor: Our daughter and i were having a disagreement, but we are working it out.

Victoria: Yes, it's all been very civil.

Victor: I'm just concerned about ashland locke's health. But victoria assures me that it's okay, right? Okay. End of story. And now your mother can continue asking you inappropriate questions. Bye.

Victoria: Goodbye.

[ Door closes ]

Nikki: He doesn't usually back down that easily. You must have been very convincing.

Victoria: He was very full of questions about my relationship with ashland, but once he realized that he wasn't gonna get the answers that he wanted, he gave up.

Nikki: Did you mention the possibility of folding ashland's company into newman?

Victoria: No, of course not. Mom? Is there something that I need to know?

Phyllis: Um, I think the reasons that she left are pretty clear.

Jack: Not to kyle, they're not.

Phyllis: Okay, well, even if there were other factors, it doesn't matter. She's gone.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait, wait. What other factors?

Phyllis: I don't know. I just know what my daughter told me.

Jack: Why the sudden turnaround? Why did it all happen so quickly?

Phyllis: Are you kidding me? Okay, well, I'll give you a hint. His name is harrison. His mother's name is tara.

Jack: Oh, come on. That's not fair.

Phyllis: It's not fair? Really? Is any of this fair to my daughter? Can you blame her for realizing she was in an impossible situation and fearing for the worst? Can you blame her for that? Can you blame her for taking an incredible job in italy? She'd be a fool not to.

Jack: Do you really feel that way?

Phyllis: Yes, I do. I feel that way. This is a mess, a complete mess, and she extricated herself from the situation. And I commend her. And you -- you've brought it into your home.

[ Door closes ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Tara: I didn't know you were coming by tonight, but it looks like you're moving in.

Kyle: Yep. I figure it's the best place for me to be right now.

[ Keys clatter ] I'm gonna get settled. Then I want to spend some time with harrison.

Tara: Oh, he's already in bed. I mean, he was so tired, he went right to sleep. No fuss, no fighting.

Kyle: Well, I'll still go up and check on him, give him a kiss good night.

Tara: That's sweet. Is there anything I can do for you, anything you need?

Kyle: Just some alone time. My name is monique, I'm 41,

Nikki: I don't know anything for certain, but I'm sure that your father is going to dig deeper to learn more about ashland's illness. And if he determines that the man truly is ill, he and adam are going to have confirmation that locke communications group is vulnerable.

Victoria: They're definitely on the hunt. Dad denied it, but I can tell he's fishing for anything that might benefit him.

Nikki: Well, here's what worries me. Your father could make an offer on the corporation, or he could bypass that entirely and decide to attempt a hostile takeover. And victor's pockets are deep enough to do that. And if that happens, you'll be in a battle with your father again.

Victoria: Oh, well, I would be more than okay with that.

Nikki: How could you possibly say that?

Victoria: Dad and adam were victorious last time, but this time, I am gonna win the entire locke empire because I am holding all the cards.

Nikki: Victoria, you said that a merger looks promising, but nothing has been signed yet.

Victoria: No, but locke is on board, our legal teams are reviewing everything.

Nikki: Well, there's a long way to go before it's official. What if ashland changes his mind and decides to sell to victor and adam? He did it before. He could do it again.

Jack: This mess you're referring to is kyle's determination to be there for his son, his commitment to co-parent with the boy's mother.

Phyllis: Yeah, I get that. It's very admirable. I respect that. I really do. But you have to see that this is a very, um, complicated dynamic. It's an impossible dynamic. And I understand why you would want tara and harrison living with you. I totally get that. But, jack, you have to see this from my daughter's perspective.

Jack: Look, I understand and I sympathize with summer's dilemma. But I'm not gonna pretend that i am not thrilled to have my grandson under my roof. The energy and enthusiasm is contagious. Getting to watch that little boy grow up is like a gift I never thought I'd get. And now that these rumors about ashland's health are out there, I --

Phyllis: Do you think that's true?

Jack: I don't know. I don't know anything more than you do, and I don't want to pry, but -- but I hope for harrison's sake there's nothing to those rumors. But either way, I am going to be there for that boy.

Phyllis: He's very lucky to have you. He is. You already seem to love him very much.

Jack: I do.

Phyllis: You have a big heart, a very big heart, jack.

Jack: Well, it's kind of easy when he's an adorable child and he happens to be your flesh and blood.

Phyllis: No, I'm speaking generally. I admire that. You have a very, very big heart, and that never changes, you know? And you've been burned so many times, and you're not jaded.

Jack: No, I guess I'm not.

Phyllis: I mean, other people -- they be jaded. I mean, other people -- let's just say me.

[ Sighs ] I keep a certain distance, you know? I stay in my lane emotionally. You know what I mean? It was very difficult for me when I got back together with nick. You know, it was hard for me to trust him.

Jack: You know what?

Phyllis: He worked really hard.

Jack: I don't really like talking with you about you and nick. Here's what I believe. It is a conscious decision to let someone in, even if there's a chance you'll get hurt. And painful as it may be, love in all its forms is worth the risk.

Mariah: Was it just me, or did that seem a little weird?

Devon: What do you mean, "weird"?

Mariah: Well, he just kind of shows up, no call, no text, just, "hi, I'm in town." And then that weird invite to his party, like, last minute.

Abby: I mean, imagine being in his position. Here he is. He's back in this town he thought he was gonna make his home, in front of the woman he thought he was gonna have a family with. It's almost like he has to face everything that went wrong. I mean, it's probably overwhelming for him.

Mariah: Yeah. Maybe I'm just being judgy. It wouldn't be the first time, and I'm sure it won't be the last, which is why I'm very lucky to have tessa and you in my life to help me stop being so negative and cynical.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

[ Cellphone vibrating ]

Mariah: Oh. That is my alarm. I've got to head to crimson lights to make sure that the supplies got there before sharon gets back and before the place closes up for the night.

Abby: Oh, you're going right now?

Mariah: Uh, yeah. I'll just be gone for a little bit, and, uh, we can talk about this later.

Devon: Yeah. See you.

Mariah: See you.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Yeah?

Devon: Did seeing stitch hit you harder than you're letting on? This is a cold call!

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Abby: I'm fine. But seeing ben -- it -- it was a lot to process. I was really glad to catch up with him, and then I just sort of felt uncomfortable. I just -- I feel a lot of guilt when it comes to stitch.

Devon: You don't have anything to feel guilty about.

Abby: Things between us -- they were -- they were just so difficult. It's nothing like what I have with chance.

Devon: You haven't seen chance in months.

Abby: Besides him being away on a super-secret mission, i mean, things between us have been pretty easy.

Devon: Has it really? He got shot when you guys were engaged, and then he came down with an infection that prevented him from being able to father a child. It'S...

Abby: Are you keeping score?

Devon: No, I'm not. I'm just trying to remind you that all relationships have crises that you got to deal with at some point. You don't need to blame yourself just 'cause you and stitch had some bad luck.

Abby: I know. You're right again. I just -- I feel like ben is suffering, and I just -- I want him to be happy.

Devon: Like you?

Abby: I'm happy. I am, yeah.

Devon: Good. Good. When's the last time you talked to chance?

Abby: Well, I haven't heard from him since that call that was cut off, but I learned that he was okay.

Devon: That's great news.

Abby: Yeah, and I'm just doing my best to keep my mind from drifting to all of the dangerous possibilities because I know that chance is the best at what he does.

Devon: Yeah, you're right. He's very much the best at what he does, and he's also doing everything he can to make sure he stays safe so he can get home to you.

Abby: And I am looking forward to the day when walks through those doors and back into my arms.

Devon: Well, just keep faith.

Abby: I will.

Devon: Good.

Abby: For chance and our baby, I will.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Harrison is sound asleep with a little smile on his face. He must have had a good day.

Tara: I think every day is a good day at grandpa jack's house. He loves it here.

Kyle: We love having him.

Tara: Do you want me to go into another room so that you can have some peace and quiet alone?

Kyle: I'm sorry I was short earlier. It's been a really, really long day.

Tara: I understand. And no apology necessary.

Kyle: Mm. But my offer still stands. If you need someone to talk to, I am here to listen.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] It was hard packing up the hotel room and leaving. It sounds strange. It was just a suite, but it was where summer and I lived, where we were planning our future. We were only supposed to live there until our house was done and now our dream house is almost finished and it's going to sit there empty. I... I can't believe this is over.

Tara: I'm so sorry, kyle.

Kyle: But I'm all talked out on the subject, at least for the moment.

Tara: Okay. Have you had dinner yet?

Kyle: I haven't thought about food in a while. But now that you mention it, I'm starving.

Tara: Well, mrs. Martinez worked her usual magic, and there is plenty in the kitchen, including some brownies for dessert that I picked up earlier.

Kyle: Ooh! I could definitely go for those. Have you eaten?

Tara: No, actually.

Kyle: Well, come on. Table for two.

Tara: Yes.

Kyle: Please.

Tara: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Well, it looks like my meeting over drinks has been canceled. I'm gonna head home and see if i can help kyle settle in. Listen, if you hear from summer, would you let me know? I want to give her space, but i also want to know that she's okay.

Phyllis: I'll do that.

Sally: Hi, you. What a great night, isn't it?

Jack: It obviously is for you. Any particular reason?

Sally: I'm guessing you haven't heard from lauren.

Jack: No, I haven'T.

Sally: Well, she asked me to be the new acting president of jcv. And get this -- summer is the one that recommended me for the position.

Jack: Congratulations. Well deserved.

Sally: Thank you. I know I still have to prove i can do the job, but I am determined to show lauren that I'm up for the challenge.

Jack: I have no doubt she's gonna be impressed.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] I...

Jack: Go ahead.

Sally: There is something that I would really like to ask you.

Victoria: Your fears of history repeating itself are completely unfounded. Yes, I'm sure that dad would love to gain control of locke communications group, but I'm the one who saw this opportunity, and I am going to close this deal.

Nikki: Well, I hope you are right. I just don't think you should count on ashland keeping his word to you.

Victoria: Locke wants his company in the hands of someone who understands what he was trying to build, not someone who's gonna strip it and sell it for parts. He wants to protect it from the sharks.

Nikki: And your father is a great white.

Victoria: Absolutely, and ashland understands that. Our agreement is just -- it's not just based on business. He and I -- we've spent time together. We've become friends. In fact, he just asked me to go on another trip with him.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Back to new york?

Victoria: Los angeles. But anyway, the point is, mom, that he and I -- we have -- we have a trust. Why do you think he confided in me about his illness in the first place?

Nikki: We don't know that those feelings will last. I mean, the man is going through a divorce. He's looking at his mortality. Maybe he'll change his mind when he comes to grips with all of that. Maybe he just likes to play games.

Victoria: I don't think so. It's a literal matter of life and death.

Nikki: Do you know that for a fact? Is there a treatment available?

Victoria: Yes, mother, but the side effects are terrible and the chances of success are very low and I don't think that he wants to put himself through that.

Nikki: Well, honey, that is what he told you. For all we know, he may have every intention of beating this thing. Or maybe he just loves the thrill of the chase and he's using his company to draw you closer.

Victoria: I-I-I -- I'll have precautions in place. I know ashland better than you do. He would not turn on me.

Nikki: I hope you're right. But I wouldn't be so confident.

From prom dresses

Sally: I was wondering if you would like to join me for a drink tonight? I've had a really big day, and i know that you've been dealing with a lot lately. And wouldn't it be fun to just hang out for a little while and talk? As friends? You know what? No, that's not quite right. Let's call it...a "maybe one day we can be friends again" drink. Just one. What do you say?

Jack: Well --

Phyllis: I hate to interrupt. Jack, I need to talk to you before you leave. Privately.

Jack: Now?

Phyllis: Well, it would be best. Now would be b-- you don't mind, do you, sally?

Sally: I will be at society, jack, if you feel like joining me.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Okay, what could possibly be so important you need to talk to me right this very second?

Phyllis: Well, I'm here to tell you, you don't want to do what I think you're thinking you want to do.

Jack: What is it you think I'm thinking I want to do?

Phyllis: Jack, there's a reason you stopped going out with her.

Jack: I need you to stay out of this. If I decide to go out with sally tonight or if I decide to call her and tell her to stop pursuing me or if I choose to ignore her completely, that is for me and only me to decide.

Abby: To what do I owe this pleasure?

Victor: Well, I just wanted to check in, you know, see how things are. Did you know that summer is moving to italy?

Abby: Uh, yes. I called and caught her at the airport. I mean, she seems very excited about this job, but it's just so out of the blue.

Victor: I think it's very abrupt.

Abby: I talked to her a few weeks ago about kyle and his ex and the child. I don't know. Maybe that's why she felt the need to leave town.

Victor: How you doing?

Abby: I miss chance, but other than that, I'm good.

Victor: And mariah and the baby?

Abby: Everything's going smoothly.

Victor: Ah, well, that's nice.

Abby: You know, it's a shame that you didn't stop by earlier because I got a surprise visit from my ex, ben.

Victor: Stitch was here? I'll be damned.

Abby: He's in town for a retirement party.

Victor: Really? Wow. I miss my sparring sessions with him. You know, he was a very good boxer.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Victor: Except the last time we sparred, he hit me to the jaw with a left hook. I couldn't bite down for days afterwards.

Abby: And yet you still approved of me marrying him.

Victor: Of course. He's a good man.

Abby: Well, he's had his troubles. His son, max -- he hasn't recovered. He's actually gotten worse, and he barely recognizes ben anymore.

Victor: I'm so sorry to hear that.

Abby: It's so sad. I feel like it's really changed stitch. I mean, he's still a lovely man, but everything that's happened with max -- I feel like it's destroyed a part of him.

Victor: Of course it did. It's a parent's nightmare to have a child that is sick and there's nothing you can do about it, you know? Brings down any man, no matter how strong, even stitch.

Abby: I just -- I wish there was something I could do to help him.

Victor: Well, maybe in some way, you already did.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: Hey!

Stitch: [ Chuckles ] Hey. Well, we meet again.

Mariah: Yes, we do. Aren't you supposed to be at your boss's party or something?

Stitch: Yeah. I went. I talked to the guest of honor for a little while. I recognized a few people, but didn't really fit in. So I said a quick goodbye. It wasn't -- it wasn't really my scene, you know, especially flying solo.

Mariah: [ Laughing ] I completely understand that.

Stitch: You, uh -- you have a few minutes?

Mariah: Uh, yeah, sure.

Stitch: Uh...

Mariah: [ Groans, chuckles ]

Stitch: [ Chuckles ] We didn't get a chance to talk much back at the house. Um, so, I just wanted to say i think it's so great, what you're doing for abby.

Mariah: Oh.

Stitch: Carrying the baby -- that's -- I mean...you know... everything's going well?

Mariah: Yeah. Uh, you know, after I got past the morning sickness, it's been -- it's been pretty easy from then on. But what about you? Other than taking care of your son, what have you been up to?

Stitch: Not much.

[ Both chuckles ] Yeah.

Mariah: Oh, come on. I seriously do not believe that. So, spill. I'm all ears. There are times, I wonder...

Victor: You know, maybe stitch stopped by because he wanted to reminisce about the good times you had.

Abby: I don't know if I made him feel any better. Here I am. I'm married again. I have a baby on the way. And, well, his life isn't going nearly as well.

Victor: But I'm sure you handled it well, you know, considering how sad the end to your marriage to him was. I mean, you could have turned him away at the door. You had every right to do that because you didn't want to relive all those bad memories.

Abby: I couldn't have done that to him.

Victor: I'm sure you were gracious and compassionate. I'm sure he loved it. Meant a lot to him.

Abby: I hope so.

Stitch: I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not doing anything newsworthy.

Mariah: But you're still practicing medicine.

Stitch: [ Chuckles ] Yes. Yeah, of course.

Mariah: In iowa city?

Stitch: That's right! Good memory.

Mariah: Thank you.

Stitch: Yeah. Um...you know, I'm working a lot of hours, you know? Um, it feels like when I'm not at the hospital, I'm checking on max. You know, that takes up all my time, so... I wish I had more to report, you know, something colorful, but I have nothing going on.

Mariah: Wow. That sucks for you.

Stitch: Okay, that's harsh. That's harsh.

Mariah: No, I'm kidding. I'm kidding. Um, but -- I'm sorry -- I do actually have to get home and rest, you know?

Stitch: Oh, yeah, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Mariah: But it was great seeing you tonight for the second time, stitch.

Stitch: Yeah, you too. Yeah, it was great seeing you.

Mariah: So, um... have a safe flight back to iowa city.

Stitch: Thanks, mariah.

Mariah: See you.

Stitch: See you.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: Who was that?

Tara: It was a courier. He dropped this off.

Kyle: Is that from ashland?

Tara: His lawyers.

Kyle: Were you expecting anything from them today?

Tara: No.

[ Sighs ] It's the custody agreement. It's exactly what ashland said it would be. As soon as I sign this, ash and I have joint custody of harrison.

[ Exhales sharply ] He kept his promise. He -- he did the best thing for harrison. And I know that this doesn't erase any of your pain, but i hope it makes you feel a little better.

Kyle: More than a little. This is great news for harrison and for us.

Victoria: Hey, ashland. How are you feeling? Good. I made arrangements for johnny and katie, and, um, I freed up my schedule, so it looks like I'm free to join you in los angeles after all.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Just one drink.
