Episode #12141 ~ Amanda challenges Sutton. Devon confides in Victor. Jack keeps Billy in line.
Provided By Suzanne
Ashland: Tara swore up and down that she had nothing to do with leaking the information about my medical condition.
Victoria: Did you believe her?
Ashland: Well, it's been fairly well established that I'm incapable of telling if tara is lying or not.
Victoria: Finding out who's responsible isn't as important as how you handle it. Do you want to get in front of the story and make an official statement?
Ashland: You know, I think that would draw too much attention. I think it's better to act as if the whole thing is beneath my notice, which it should be.
Victoria: You're absolutely right. Who has time for idle gossip?
Ashland: Precisely. So let's talk about what really matters -- the merger. What's your team's initial assessment?
Victoria: We'll get to that. Do you know what you need?
Ashland: No, but I'm guessing you are about to tell me.
Victoria: You need a break, and you need some air. Come on.
Ashland: You leaked the news of my illness to the media, didn't you?
Tara: Ashland, I have no idea what you're talking about.
Ashland: Please, don't lie to me. Only a few people knew, and you are the only one with motive to destroy me. I mean, do you have any idea what this could do to my company's value, its prestige?
Tara: What? What do you mean destroy you?' Why would I want to do that?
Ashland: Why indeed?! Hurting locke communications group only hurts harrison down the road, but apparently you're okay with that. And what's more important -- what if harrison were to hear about this secondhand?
Tara: Would you keep your voice down?
Ashland: How could you justify leaking such incredibly private information?
Tara: Stop! I have no idea what you're talking about. What leak?
Ashland: The
national inquisitor just posted a story about my impending demise. Does that ring a bell?
Tara: How could you think i would do something like that? I wouldn't do it to you, and i wouldn't do it to harrison. I'm not the vindictive one in the family.
Ashland: I just hope that you're not foolish enough to think that a stunt like this would somehow get you control of my company if I were to die before this divorce is final. Not in a million years.
Tara: I'm getting tired of telling you I don't want your company at all. I never meant to hurt you, ash, but I doubt you're ever gonna believe that or stop trying to hurt me for what I did.
Ashland: Don't try to play the victim now.
Tara: Is that what's driving whatever it is between you and victoria newman? Are you trying to just prove how fast you can move on, how little I mattered to you?
Ashland: You know, you're trying to change the subject. This is about my personal business being publicly exposed for all to see.
[ Door opens ]
Tara: If you are here for your afternoon game of catch, harrison is on an excursion with the nanny.
Jack: Actually, I am here to see you. Um, there is a story going around about ashland's health, and I just wanted to check in and make sure you're alright. Last thing I want to do is pry. Whatever ashland has or hasn't told you is none of my business, but these rumors, accurate or not, once they catch fire, can do some real damage. And I know you want to shield harrison from all of it.
Tara: Thank goodness that he's too young to know what's going on. How thoughtless and cruel that someone would publish that story on a gossip site.
Jack: People will do anything for money.
Tara: I mean, they get caught up in these business rivalries, and they forget that sometimes breaking news just breaks hearts.
Jack: I want you to know something. If this rumor turns out to be true, if harrison loses the one man who has been his father his whole life, I -- I want you to know that I, along with kyle and the rest of the abbott family, will be there to help you both through it.
Amanda: Thank you so much for lunch.
Devon: Oh, you're very, very welcome. Maybe you'll eat it next time.
Amanda: [ Chuckles ] I'm sorry. You'll have to forgive me.
Devon: I'm just messing with you. I know you're under a lot of stress.
Amanda: [ Sighs ] I mean, naya is the last person that i ever believed that I would be visiting in jail.
Devon: Oh, I'm surprised she even agreed to speak to you.
Amanda: [ Scoffs ] I'm not gonna have a lot of time to convince her to recant her confession or at least exercise her right to remain silent.
Devon: I assume that imani is trying to convince her to do that, right?
Amanda: Who knows what that woman is whispering in her ear. I mean, she won't return my calls or my texts. According to her, everything is my fault.
Devon: She's so ridiculous. She has to know this is the last thing you wanted to happen.
Amanda: Yeah, well, she can't blame our grandfather. The cardinal rule in the ames family seems to be that the patriarch is incapable of doing anything wrong. They're all emotionally and financially dependent on him, and he knows it. You know, the only time that naya ever defied him was when she refused to go to his alma mater.
Devon: Yeah, and then she had to leave school.
Amanda: Yeah. And then she ended up pregnant, and that was a disaster, so she never dared step out of line again.
Devon: That's a shame.
Amanda: He just has such an iron grip over every single one of them.
Devon: Except for you.
Amanda: Yeah. Except me. And you better believe he's about to find that out.
Billy: Do you know how long it took that expedition to find king tut's tomb? Seven years. Do you know why they were successful and the other ones weren't? Because they did not stop digging. That is exactly why we got you on this story -- because we believe in you and we trust that you will follow through.
[ Sighs ] I'm glad to hear that. Keep in touch. Good luck.
Lily: Our brilliant reporter hit a wall?
Billy: That's the second one with no story. Eight million people in that city. They can't find one person to either confirm or deny that locke is on borrowed time?
Lily: Well, maybe we have to accept the possibility that someone's lying to make it seem like locke's company is vulnerable to attack, which i hope that's not the case for his sake and his little boy.
Billy: Either way, it's a juicy story. But who's gonna start that rumor and why? And are they motivated by greed, or has it become something personal?
Lily: Well, maybe it's someone that locke screwed over in a business deal.
Billy: That is a very long list.
Lily: Yeah, that's true.
Billy: You know, we can't forget that victoria said that something big is going on.
Lily: Well, locke's health and victoria's news could be completely unrelated.
Billy: That's a very good point. And whether that's true or not, our team has been to new york, focusing on locke, his doctors, and his medical history.
Lily: So?
Billy: So we need to widen the scope. We need to find someone that's gonna want to see him suffer a little bit, both personally and in business. And I know exactly where to start.
that you wanted to talk to me
Devwinter's mood, legacy to your newman media's online music
Victor: Devon.
Devon: Mr. Newman.
Victor: Devon.
Devon: How you doing?
Victor: So glad you could make it. Have a seat.
Devon: Absolutely. Thank you for taking the time.
Victor: You bet.
Devon: Your assistant told me that you wanted to talk to me about promoting a few of my recording artists on newman media's online music platform.
Victor: Yeah. You interested?
Devon: Yes, I'm very interested.
Victor: Good. I want to shine a light on winter's mood, legacy to your father, you know?
Devon: Yeah, that would be fantastic. The only thing, though, is i wouldn't be able to give you an exclusive just 'cause lily is planning to have chanccomm give the label some coverage, too.
Victor: I understand that. And I expected that.
Devon: Right.
Victor: But lily must be very happy that you are paying respect to your father that way.
Devon: Sure.
Victor: And she must be happy about you taking your younger brother under your wing.
Devon: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. I don't have to do much with him, though, I tell you.
Victor: Really?
Devon: No. Moses is probably the smartest, most goal-oriented teenager I've ever been around, so I --
[Chuckles] I just got to give him a place to stay and, you know, try to set the same examples that our father would.
Victor: That's nice to know. I got to tell you, I respect the way you've kept your family together, although you lost your dad, you know? Families are complicated, aren't they?
Devon: They sure can be, yeah.
Victor: I'm sure amanda found that out, now that she has found her biological family.
Devon: Oh, yeah, that's a -- that's a very complex situation.
Victor: Yeah. You know, I feel a certain kinship with amanda. I, too, grew up without parents. I understand her desire to reunite with them and to get to know them. And now that she has... she found that one of her parents killed the other. That must have been devastating.
Devon: Okay, you -- you spoke with naya benedict directly? And did she give you a reason for her refusal to meet with me? Well, she didn't have a problem with it earlier today. Wait. What visitor? Who was there? Her father?
Ashland: This is nice.
Victoria: Mm-hmm.
Ashland: What made you think to bring me here?
Victoria: Remember when we spoke about how difficult it was recovering after I was stabbed? Well, since then, I've been able to recognize when I'm pushing myself too hard. And I can see it in others, too.
Ashland: Surely you're not saying --
Victoria: I just think that you need to find time to decompress. Find something that you enjoy, something that's, um, not business. Given everything that you're going through, you just have to accept that you can't push yourself at the same pace anymore.
Ashland: You know, you're right. I need to go faster. I am in a race against time, after all.
Victoria: In those moments after I was attacked -- I don't know -- it seemed like everything just came to a crawl. The seconds were a minute, and the minutes were like an hour.
Ashland: It was the same for me when I had my heart attack.
Victoria: So maybe you can take a lesson from that. Maybe you don't need to speed things up, but you need to slow down and take a breath and just focus on what really matters.
Jack: Come on in.
Billy: Thank you.
Jack: Second time today. To what do I owe the surprise?
Billy: You make it sound like I need to apologize for coming to my childhood home.
Jack: You're here to get the inside scoop on these rumors about ashland's health, aren't you?
Billy: Well, his wife and child are under this roof, practically living out of my bedroom, so you've got to know something.
Jack: I just found out myself, just like everyone else.
Billy: But you can put two and two together. I mean, it is you that told me that he's looking to take a more amicable approach to his divorce and pull back on his custody demands.
Jack: What are you implying?
Billy: I'm implying that maybe he saw the light when he found out that he was dying.
Jack: I am not about to speculate. I don't think you should, either.
Billy: That's my job, jack.
Jack: Billy, if this turns out to be true and ashland is dying, that's his private business. If not and you go ahead and publish a hoax, not only are you gonna come out looking like a fool. You're gonna open yourself to legal action. And this sterling reputation that chanccomm has goes out the window. This is a losing situation.
Billy: That's the exact speech I thought I was gonna get.
Jack: Then maybe you should have saved yourself the trouble of coming out to see me.
Billy: I don't want to break your heart, brother, but I'm not here to see you. ( Lovely day instrumental) my heart failure diagnosis
Jack: I hope you're not about to tell me you came here to talk to tara.
Billy: Jack, I run a news organization. Whether you like it or not, tara and locke's divorce is news. She might actually look at it as an opportunity to get her side of the story out.
Jack: Your motivation is awfully self-serving. That woman is going through a hell of a lot right now. Her soon-to-be ex-husband could be dying, and that could be very traumatic for her son. And then there's kyle -- kyle, your nephew. He is heartbroken about losing summer.
Billy: So, she left town?
Jack: Yes. And your advice that he try to stop her kind of backfired.
Billy: Well, I'm sorry to hear that. I thought she was gonna give him another chance.
Jack: When your family is hurting this much, why do you want to exploit other people's pain to get a few clicks?
Billy: Hold on a second. I care about kyle. I am concerned about him and that boy just as much as you are.
Jack: Then don't do this.
Billy: Jack, I really wish you had a little more faith in my ability to handle this responsibly. Look, if it is not chanccomm, there are a dozen other news organizations that would jump at this story. If we are the first legitimate one to tell the truth, we can set the tone. I can get a writer on it that can handle it with sensitivity and compassion. We may not be able to change the narrative, but we can tilt the spin.
Jack: The news is barely out, and you're racing over here to question tara. Come on. Have the decency, at least, to let her process this.
Tara: I appreciate your concern, jack, but I have no problem talking to billy about his story.
Billy: I'm happy to hear that.
Lily: Nina, please, have a seat.
Nina: Thank you.
Lily: So, how are mariah and the baby?
Nina: Oh, I am so happy to report that everything is going smoothly.
Lily: Aww, that's very exciting.
Nina: And we are so grateful to devon for making all of this happen.
Lily: I know. I know he's so excited for little baby chancellor's arrival. And he's had so much practice with my kids, mattie and charlie.
Nina: Oh, good. I'll bet.
Lily: So, I hope that I can be the super-cool aunt?
Nina: Oh, okay. Um, yeah, you have the job.
Lily: Thank you.
[ Both laugh ] So, what can I do for you? What do you want to discuss?
Nina: Well, I'm in town until the baby is born.
Lily: Mm-hmm.
Nina: And until then, I've got nothing but free time on my hands. And I know that you hire a lot of writers. So...put me to work?
Lily: Well, yeah. Traci runs out fiction platform. I'm sure she would look at whatever you send her way.
Nina: Actually, I was hoping for something more of a short-term project, like freelance news articles or profiles.
Lily: But you write novels and screenplays, right?
Nina: Yes, but I also have a lot of journalism experience. I can send you some articles that I've had published in los angeles if you'd like.
Lily: Of course. Yeah, I'd love to see them.
Nina: Okay.
Lily: So, wait. You probably do a lot of research for your screenplays?
Nina: I do, yeah. It's actually kind of my favorite part of the writing process. And I've built up an extensive list of contacts and consultants.
Lily: Yeah, not to mention all of your connections here in genoa city.
Nina: Yeah. Do you have a specific assignment in mind?
Lily: I do. But I'd like to talk to billy about it, so I'll get back to you.
Nina: Alright. Fantastic. Great, I look forward to hearing from you.
Devon: Amanda's in the middle of learning just how challenging family can be.
Victor: Oh, yeah?
Devon: And it's tough to sit back and watch her have to deal with the ups and downs emotionally of the whole thing. It's just -- I'm just trying to support her the best I can.
Victor: It must have been a very rude awakening to realize that her fantasies and expectations about family don't meet the reality.
Devon: And I'm the one who encouraged her to reach out to her family and give them a second chance, based off my experiences with finding tucker, although there's no comparison between the two. That ames family she's dealing with is -- they're so insular that even when they made it seem like they were letting amanda back into the fold, there's, like, an invisible obstacle course she has to navigate. You know what I mean?
Victor: Well, they probably have a lot to hide, you know?
Devon: I think they still do 'cause we still don't know the truth about what happened to amanda's father. And you've dealt with this sutton guy before. Do you have an opinion about him? What's your take?
Victor: [ Chuckles ] He's a politician, you know?
Devon: Yeah.
Victor: He is careful about what he says, wants to keep up his image. I wonder how far he would have gone to safeguard his reputation.
Sutton: Amanda. I'm glad I found you. I've got moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.
Jack: I'll be in the sun-room if you need me.
Billy: We'll be fine. Thank you, jack.
Tara: You were clever not delegating this conversation to some random reporter.
Billy: What do you mean by that?
Tara: Well, a complete stranger would be much easier to brush aside with a "no comment."
Billy: [ Chuckles ] Well, I hope that means you're comfortable with me. If that's the case, I'm glad.
Tara: Of course. Your harrison's great uncle billy.
Billy: "Great"? Wow. I mean, I've had my moments, but...
Tara: And I also know that you will help keep harrison's interest in mind when you're writing your article.
Billy: I will do that. Where is the little boy? Is he here?
Tara: No, he's out with his nanny. But he will be home soon, so...
Billy: Then we can keep this brief. Please.
Tara: I don't have much to say, especially if you're here to talk about ashland's health. I am the last person he'd want to confide in.
Billy: Well, that's not the same as saying that he didn't confide in you.
Tara: Anything else you want to ask me?
Billy: Are you concerned how quickly your ex moved on with my ex?
Tara: Is this for the article? Or because misery loves company?
Billy: Oh, I'm not miserable. Far from it. But I am concerned about my children's well-being.
Tara: I can relate to that. The jealousy, not so much.
Billy: Again, not jealous. Concerned. Should I be?
Tara: It depends on how much you care about what happens to victoria. I mean, if you're okay with ashland using her to heal his wounded ego, then, no, no cause for concern at all.
Victor: I haven't had a chance to get to know amanda well, but it must have been a shock to her to think that she had found her family, only to realize it was a facade.
Devon: And it gets worse because amanda knows that her father knew about both her and hilary and was ready to raise them.
Victor: Whoa.
Devon: And then he was killed.
Victor: [ Exhales sharply ]
Devon: Yeah.
Victor: Well, I bet you richard nealon would be happy to know that you are in her corner. She'll need you now.
Sutton: I've just come from seeing your mother.
Amanda: So I've heard.
Sutton: She's heartsick. She wanted me to find you to convey just how deeply she regrets what she did.
Amanda: Well, I would like to talk to her myself, but she won't let me visit her in jail.
Sutton: She's too ashamed to face you. She's afraid you might never forgive her. Whew, this is a tragic day for our family. But maybe now you understand why I was so opposed to having you expose naya's relationship to richard as part of my defense.
Amanda: You're not here to convince me that you knew all along that naya was guilty, are you?
Sutton: Of course not. I wouldn't believe it even now if she hadn't confessed. I did know she was fragile.
Amanda: Not a word that i would use to describe her.
Sutton: The guilt, the loss she suffered after giving up her babies -- it plunged her into a deep depression. It lasted for months.
Amanda: Funny, no one's ever mentioned this.
Sutton: It shouldn't come as a surprise. It's the kind of thing that people kept to themselves back then.
Amanda: Who took care of her?
Sutton: Her mother did her best to help.
Amanda: So, you didn't take her to any doctors, no therapy, no medication?
Sutton: In our family, we take care of each other.
Amanda: Mm, so there's no record of her mental state at the time.
Sutton: Hindsight being what it is, I suppose we should have taken her for some professional help. Now we -- we know that it was some form of acute postpartum depression, but back then...
Amanda: Is this what naya's planning to say under oath? That the depression made her do it, made her commit murder?
Sutton: You have to understand -- she wasn't herself.
Amanda: No, there is only one thing I need to understand. How did you convince naya to take the blame for a murder that you are responsible for? One, two! One, two, three! Only pay for what you need!
"The young and the restless"
will continue.
Victoria: Thank you so much for letting me know. I'll get back to you. Well, that was my legal team. There's a potential antitrust issue with two of our divisions that overlap.
Ashland: Can't have that.
Victoria: No. They're suggesting that maybe you make some discreet inquiries into the possibility of their sale.
Ashland: Which divisions?
Victoria: Electronics and real estate.
Ashland: Well, you sell one of yours, and I'll consider selling one of mine.
Victoria: Well, that's a non-starter because I'm not getting rid of anything.
Ashland: Well, if this is to be a true merger, you're gonna have to sacrifice a little, too, you know.
Victoria: Oh, it's not a big deal. It's just my team spit-balling in case in becomes an issue.
Ashland: Well, it sounds like they're suggesting wholesale surrender. If it becomes a legal issue, i hope you fight like hell. And if you don't, I'll be disappointed.
[ Breathes deeply ]
Victoria: Ashland? Do you want me to get you some water?
Ashland: No. I'm okay.
Victoria: Are you sure about that?
Ashland: [ Coughs ]
Victoria: Just take it easy.
Billy: Ashland. Good to see you again.
Victoria: Billy, this is a private conversation.
Ashland: I haven't changed my mind about discussing those ridiculous rumors.
Victoria: I think that you and lily need to stop hounding us.
Billy: Look, I am simply giving ashland an opportunity to set the record straight.
Ashland: Are we ready to go?
Victoria: I think that's a brilliant idea since apparently we can't sit here in peace.
Sutton: Keep your voice down.
Amanda: Are you afraid that someone's gonna overhear the truth?
Sutton: I understand you've been getting closer to naya and don't want to believe that she could possibly have had richard killed, but --
Amanda: She is covering for you. And why would she do that, give up her own freedom for you?
Sutton: You have a very active imagination.
Amanda: Did you threaten her or someone that she cares about? Was it her husband? Imani? Maybe it was me?
Sutton: Don't be preposterous.
Amanda: Now that she's aware that you arranged to have the father of her children murdered, she would have every reason to believe that you would make good on any new threats.
Sutton: I will not stand for these wild accusations. I'm not a violent man. Everything I've done, including the mistakes I've made -- it's all been to protect my daughter.
Amanda: To protect yourself, your image, your family name. You sold your soul for your career.
Sutton: Never!
Amanda: You gave up your own grandchildren, your own flesh and blood, and now you're willing to sacrifice your own daughter.
Sutton: I have heard enough out of you.
Victor: Thank you.
Billy: I stopped by your new offices the other days.
Victor: Oh, yeah? Well, thanks for letting me know. I will be certain to tell the maintenance crew to clean the damn place, okay?
Billy: While I was there, adam mentioned that he's dropping the vendetta against me and chanccomm.
Victor: Oh, yeah?
Billy: Yeah. Even if he is being sincere, which I highly doubt, I can't believe that you're gonna follow suit.
Victor: Billy boy, just be happy you've been given a reprieve, alright?
Billy: I'm gonna assume this is part of adam's redemption road show and maybe he's trying to impress nick or, better yet, sharon. But if hell has officially frozen over and you've agreed to step back, it's got to be burning you up inside because i know how badly you want to take me down.
Victor: [ Chuckles ] To be frank, it hasn't been all that bad, you know? Whenever I need cheering up, I just think of the fact that you are creating your own downfall, digging your own grave sooner or later. And I bet on sooner. This is the sound of an asthma attack...
Jack: If I had to send champagne and flowers every time my brother did something thoughtless and unforgivable --
Tara: No need for apologies.
Jack: His questions weren't too intrusive?
Tara: Nothing I couldn't handle. In fact, I think talking to him might work in my favor since I'll be actively promoting my shoe line soon. I mean, it can't hurt to have some good, positive coverage on chanccomm's fashion site.
Jack: You talked about that?
Tara: No. I figured it would be better to get on his good side first. And if all it took was, uh, dishing on our exes, it's a small price to pay. Did I say something wrong?
Jack: I'm just surprised billy dragged victoria into any of this. His focus is protecting his children. Why would he make her part of the story any more than he had to?
Tara: I don't think his questions were all about publishing his story, so...
Jack: No?
Tara: I'd like to believe that he was concerned about victoria's welfare.
Billy: You know, it's a good thing that newman media has declared a temporary cease-fire. We can put our heads together and fight the good fight -- an issue that concerns us both.
Victor: Oh, yeah? And what would that be?
Billy: Victoria's involvement with ashland locke.
Victor: And what makes you think that I have a problem with that?
Billy: Because you have problem with every guy she's interested in.
Victor: Well, you know damn well why, right? Because she has chosen unwisely. Just look at yourself. In ashland locke, she finally found someone that she can respect.
Billy: So, you're telling me, of all the men out there, ashland locke is the one that successfully jumped through the hoops?
Victor: He didn't have to jump through hoops, okay? I respect him because of the damn company he's built.
Billy: I see. So, you're pleased that she found a junior version of yourself? Cold-blooded and ruthless?
Victor: [ Laughs ] Billy boy, it has nothing to do with how similar he is to me. It has everything to do with the fact that he is nothing like you.
Billy: I would be very careful to let that color your perception of him. You may have won the opportunity to acquire his company, but he was nothing but deceptive and manipulative that entire negotiation, and now you're telling me that you're gonna trust him with your daughter?
Victor: That's her decision, you know.
Billy: Come on. Since when? Look, victor, if ashland is lying and he truly is dying, I don't have to tell you how much that could hurt victoria. Now, she has decided not to listen to my warnings, but I'm hoping -- I'm hoping she'll listen to you.
Victor: Has it occurred to you that she's not listening to you because she wants you to stay out of her damn business? So stay out of it.
Lily: Oh. Victor. Hi. Wow. I feel like I got frostbite from that look on his face. What happened?
Sutton: Amanda, you don't mean what you're saying right now. It's all coming from a place of grief. And I want you to know I forgive you.
Amanda: You forgive me?
Sutton: You're wrong about me. You'll realize it in time. But I appreciate the loyalty and fierce devotion you're showing to your mother.
Amanda: Is that supposed to matter to me?
Sutton: Oh, I cannot imagine anybody in the world more passionately committed to defending naya against these serious charges.
Amanda: I'm sorry. Did I hear you correctly?
Sutton: She needs you, now more than ever. And I want to hire you to be naya's attorney.
Amanda: [ Scoffs ]
[ Sighs ] Go to hell.
Ashland: Well, I should keep this visit short. There's so many vultures watching me. We don't want to tip anyone off to what we're planning
Victoria: Well, they might also assume that we're dating.
Ashland: Ah, well... why don't we throw fuel on that fire? Meet me at the grand phoenix for dinner.
Victoria: [ Sighs ] I would love to, but I can'T.
Ashland: Are you still grounded from our trip to new york?
Victoria: No. My parents have gotten over their issue with our friendship. Or, at least, they're not interfering anymore. But my nanny to leave early.
Ashland: Oh. Well, pay her double. I'll pay her triple.
Victoria: I'm sorry, but i would like to have dinner with my children.
Ashland: Ah, that's a good choice. Tomorrow then, hmm?
Victoria: Mm, maybe, if you play your cards right.
Ashland: I'll take that as a very firm and enthusiastic "yes." Now, what time works for -- oh, boy. Hold on. No, there's something I've forgotten.
Victoria: Oh? A previous engagement?
Ashland: Actually, yes.
Victoria: Should I be jealous?
Ashland: I have to fly to L.A. To shut down a satellite station.
Victoria: Well, that sounds exciting.
Ashland: It could be... because my offer stands. Have dinner with me in L.A.
Victoria: [ Chuckles ] More protection,
Lily: So, you got confirmation from victor himself?
Billy: He and adam are dropping their plan to use newman media to come after chanccomm. Looks like the vendetta is dead.
Lily: Wow. No wonder he looked so grumpy when I came in here.
Billy: [ Chuckles ]
Lily: But, I mean, can we trust him?
Billy: The answer to that question is 100% always, "no, of course not. " And it's double for adam. Look, we can't drop our guard, but for the time being, it looks like we don't have to be constantly looking over our shoulder.
Lily: Oh, my god. I have been carrying so much tension because of their threat, and now I feel like this weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
Billy: Feels good, doesn't it?
Lily: We should celebrate.
Billy: I think that's a great idea. Let's get dressed up and go out.
Lily: What? Why would we do that when the opposite is so much more fun? We should get undressed and stay in.
Devon: So, how'd everything go with naya?
Amanda: Oh, it didn'T. She took me off the visitor's list.
Devon: What changed her mind?
Amanda: Good old sutton got to her first. And then he found me, randomly, walking through chancellor park. Out of the blue, there he was.
Devon: What are you talking about? Was he having you followed?
Amanda: I don't know. I wouldn't put it past him. That man is capable of anything.
Devon: Alright. Well, did you tell him that you think that he's responsible for your dad's death?
Amanda: Damn right I did.
Devon: And what'd he say?
Amanda: Get this. He said that he forgives me for accusing him and that he appreciates my loyalty to my mother.
Devon: You serious?
Amanda: Mm-hmm. And it gets worse because he asked me to be naya's attorney.
Devon: And what'd you say?
Amanda: I told him to go to hell. I know that I'm supposed to respect my elders, but everything that he did to me
[Scoffs] He's lucky that's all i said.
Devon: Yeah, but I thought that you wanted to represent your mother.
Amanda: 100%, but on my own terms, not on sutton's dime and not under his thumb, because i am determined to bring that man down.
Ashland: There's this lovely new little seafood restaurant tucked away up in malibu. It's really quite and intimate.
Victoria: I just don't think I can make it work.
Ashland: I'll take that as a "maybe." I know you have to do this whole cost-benefit analysis in your mind.
Victoria: I'm not changing my mind.
Ashland: Well, no offense, but we did the same dance with our trip to new york, and you ended up saying yes.
Victoria: Well, that was different. Los angeles isn't really my scene.
[ Both laugh ]
Ashland: [ Coughs ]
Victoria: Ashland?
Ashland: [ Coughs ]
[ Breathing heavily ] Thank you.
Victoria: Are you alright? Is there something I can do? Should I call the doctor?
Ashland: No, no, no. I'm fine. Really.
Victoria: You're not fine. This is worse than what happened to you at crimson lights.
Ashland: [ Exhales heavily ] Are you judging my symptoms now?
Victoria: I'm just -- I'm worried about you.
Ashland: Well, then escort me to L.A. Make sure I'm in excellent hands.
Victoria: I'll see you when you get back. That is, if you really are well enough to go.
Ashland: I'm not dead yet.
Victoria: [ Exhales sharply ]
Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Checking in on your daughter?
Victor: Well, now, ashland, you caught me. What brings you here?
Ashland: Oh, a friendly visit.
Victor: Ah.
Ashland: Don't let me keep you.
Victor: Alright. You be well.
Victoria: Dad?
Victor: The rumors are true, aren't they? He's dying.
