Episode #12132 ~ Victor and Nikki question Victoria's connection to Ashland. Elena tests the waters with Nate. Phyllis warns Summer about Tara.

Ashland: Oh? Victor filling you in on the latest with newman media?

Nikki: He tells me everything is going very well with you maintaining your seat on the board.

Ashland: I'm enjoying working with him and adam thus far. I'm glad the company landed in such capable hands.

Nikki: Well, you couldn't do better than my husband in that regard. The entire family excels where business is concerned.

Ashland: I'm well aware. But am I getting a sense that you'd like to discuss a different family member at the moment?

Nikki: Good instincts. I want to talk about victoria.

Victoria: To what do I owe this pleasure?

Victor: [ Chuckles ] You never responded to the message I left you. How was your trip to new york?

Victoria: It was a great little getaway. Thank you.

Victor: Is that all you're gonna say?

Victoria: Yes.

Victor: Are you being a bit coy?

Victoria: Am I?

Victor: Yes. Why'd you go to new york with ashland locke?

Abby: Thank you for having me over, even though I warned you I am in an awful mood.

Devon: Oh, abby, you're welcome over here anytime you want. I know that you're worried about chance.

Abby: It's just, when I saw the news about the undercover operation that went wrong, i just started thinking, "what if it was chance? What if he's hurt? What if he'S...dead?" But then, he called me, and... I don't know -- it was just, the connection was weird, his voice was raised, he started shouting, and then, boom, the line went dead, and he was gone, and...I was just up all night, hoping to hear from him again. But nothing -- no word.

Devon: Well, I can understand why a call like that would scare you, but he was probably shouting because you guys had a bad connection. Then the phone cut out 'cause he was probably in a remote location. But I bet you he was calling to tell you that everything's just fine. It wasn't bad news.

Abby: Possibly. Probably. It's just... it's hard for my mind to not go to that dark place. I just... I miss him so much. But, no, I am... I'm not gonna cry.

Devon: You can cry if you want to. I won't tell nobody.

Abby: I am desperate to stay positive. We have a baby on the way, and...the restaurant is doing great, and chance is making the world a better place. But still...

Devon: You know, I have something to give you, and i think it's the perfect time to give it to you. Um...

[ Rustling ] This is from chance.

Nate: So, what are your plans for the summer?

Moses: Well, hopefully, have a little bit of fun. You know, in between my volunteer hours at the hospital and my internships at askmdnow and the clinic.

Nate: Lot of work, a little fun. You sound like someone I know.

[ Both laugh ]

Moses: What can I say? You're a bit of a role model for me. But don't let that get to your head.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] I won'T. Elena.

Elena: Hey.

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Hey. What's going on here? Some type of major medical summit?

Nate: Ah, we're just talking about plans for the summer.

Elena: Ah.

Nate: You want to have a seat? We, uh, just ordered crab cakes.

Elena: Oh. You know I can't turn down crab cakes.

Nate: As good as they are here, baltimore's known for them.

Moses: Baltimore?

Nate: Elena got an offer to work in the emergency room of a renowned hospital there.

Moses: Oh. Wow. That's amazing.

Elena: Thanks. But I haven't made a decision on whether I'm gonna take the offer or not.

Nate: Ah. Still debating?

Moses: Wait. Why -- why wouldn't you take it?

Summer: [ Scoffs ] I -- I just cannot believe that ashland's dying.

Kyle: Gotta think about the news and what it's gonna do to harrison. But I'm gonna support him and tara the best I can.

Summer: Yeah, I mean, they're gonna need you.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Remember, you cannot tell phyllis about ashland.

Phyllis: I was just expecting summer.

Summer: Uh, yeah, kyle just dropped me off. Don't worry. The wedding-planning session is strictly girls-only.

Kyle: Got it. You ladies have fun.

Phyllis: We will.

Summer: Okay. Bye.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Billy: Hey. I just came from a meeting, but I'm glad I ran into you.

Kyle: Why is that?

Billy: Chanccomm's about to run a story...and I want to give you fair warning.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Oh. There you are.

Tara: You know why I came.

Sally: I get it. You told me to leave you alone, that you didn't want to see me or hear anything I had to say, and yet here we are, meeting again. So let's just stop pretending.

Tara: What do you want?

Sally: You already know. You and I need to work together to rid ourselves of summer newman, and we need to work fast.

Devon: So, chance sent this a few weeks ago, along with this note.

Abby: Wait. You had this for weeks and you didn't tell me?

Devon: I know. Just let me read. It says, "devon, I'm asking you to hold on to this for me. I miss my wife more than you can know, and I am counting down the minutes till I get to see her and our baby-to-be. But since I don't know when that will be yet, I'm hoping you can pass this present along when you think abby needs it most.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Oh, my god.

Devon: I know.

Abby: I'm gonna put that letter in the baby book.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Sniffs ] Mm.

Ashland: Victoria and I are developing a wonderful friendship. I admire her drive, compassion, and intelligence. You must be proud to have raised such an amazing woman.

Nikki: Well, I can't take credit for who victoria is, but, yes, I am enormously proud of her.

Ashland: The fact that you're able to maintain a professional relationship as well as being her right hand at newman enterprises, it's a testament to you both.

Nikki: We never let business get in the way. Family always comes first. So let me cut to the chase. Where you and my daughter are concerned, I want my position to be very clear.

Victoria: I am enjoying getting to know ashland. That's all. I hope you're not gonna overreact. Mom said that you're not opposed to me spending time with him.

Victor: Did I say I would? Just gathering information. That's all.

Victoria: Oh, yes, you're digging, that's for sure. You know, it's too bad that newman media isn't gathering its own content right now, because you could open with this -- "newman enterprises C.E.O. Flies to new york with soon-to-be divorced mogul ashland locke for a mysterious rendezvous." You'd have tons of views.

Victor: Wouldn't be worth it. Besides, I like to keep my family's lives private, you know? And, uh... I wouldn't take advantage of ashland locke's situation.

Victoria: Really?

Victor: I kind of respect the guy, you know?

Victoria: You made the man sign a deal when he was in the midst of having a heart attack.

Victor: Oh. That. Well, yeah, I wouldn't have let him die, you know? He's back on top of his game now, so what's the big deal? You know, he signed the deal as he went through his heart attack.

[ Chuckles ] I respected that. He and I have a similarity towards business.

Victoria: And you admire him for that.

Victor: Yeah. I know. What I don't like... is my daughter's involvement with a man who's going through a bitter divorce battle.

Victoria: It may be more civil than you think.

Victor: Don't presume, my darling. You don't know the man well enough to know how he reacts in a given situation.

Victoria: True. But I know him better than you do.

Victor: Mm-hmm. That brings me to the next point.

Elena: [ Clears throat ] There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to taking a job or not. You know, I've put roots down in genoa city, and I love my work at the hospital and the clinic. But on the other hand, the job in baltimore does offer a higher salary.

Moses: Yeah.

Elena: And nate here refuses to give me advice, even though i keep asking him to.

Nate: I think the job...

[ Clearing throat ] ...Seems too good to pass up.

Elena: You're probably right.

Nate: That hospital has a stellar reputation. It's an honor --

[ Clears throat ] -- To -- to be able to join the staff there.

[ Inhales sharply ]

Elena: You doing all right?

Nate: [ Clears throat ] I only...want you to be happy.

Elena: Nate.

Moses: What -- what's wrong? A-are you okay?

Nate: I can't breathe.

[ Gasping ] You'd never want leftover onion residue

Moses: What's happening? I-is he choking?

Nate: Aller-gy...

Elena: Get an epinephrine pen from the host!

Moses: Get -- get what?! I don't know what that is!

Elena: An allergy shot. They'll have it. He isn't breathing. You need to go now.

Nate: [ Gasping ]

Elena: It's okay.

Nate: [ Gasps ]

Sally: I am so glad that you decided to stop being an unwilling participant in our alliance. I'm guessing the change of heart has something to do with summer and kyle's wedding news?

Tara: You heard about their plans to get married in august.

Sally: Summer is not messing around. She knows what an impact being a dad to harrison is having on kyle, and she also knows that you are not going anywhere, so she made a move to lock down her future.

Tara: She certainly is savvy.

Sally: Well, lucky for you,

i have been taking care of business. As promised, I am in the process of making sure that summer is offered an unbelievable job that will take her out of the country and leave kyle all to you.

Tara: I can't imagine summer accepting it, no matter how alluring the job is.

Sally: That's where you come in.

Tara: I don't know what kind of magical powers you think i have, but I can't make kyle fall in love with me overnight. We're growing closer and bonding over harrison, but he doesn't look at me like that.

Sally: Yet. You underestimate yourself. But you are right that we have to be practical, since the wedding is rapidly approaching, so we have to pave the way for summer's exit.

Phyllis: Let's do this. Okay. So, what kind of colors are you thinking for the wedding?

Summer: Um, well, I'm thinking of playing around with different shades of blue.

Phyllis: Oh, great. Your favorite color. That's great.

Summer: Oh, also, I think we should have a signature cocktail, preferably something with bourbon, because I know kyle would love that.

Phyllis: Kyle would love that. That's great. All right, good, good. I'll get on it.

Summer: Okay.

Phyllis: I will call the caterer. Oh! And, um, I discovered this pastry chef. They opened up a store downtown. I looked in the window -- the cakes are amazing.

Summer: Oh. Okay. Perfect. Well, then, kyle and i should schedule a tasting asap.

Phyllis: Yeah, asap, that's for sure.

Summer: Okay. Uh, what do you mean?

Phyllis: What? Oh, it's -- I mean... when you guys -- when you guys pushed up the wedding, it just -- I wondered if the timing had to do with tara showing up in town with harrison.

Summer: Uh, okay. Well, I never stopped wanting to marry kyle.

Phyllis: Yeah. I know. I mean, it's just interesting that she's here...with her kid. And, uh, she's possibly going to be working at fenmore's with you and lauren. It just makes me wonder. That's all. I just think you need to ask yourself, are you rushing into this marriage because you can't wait to start your new chapter with kyle...or is it because tara and harrison... and you feeling insecure? And if it's the latter, that's no reason to rush down the aisle.

Billy: Chanccomm is gonna run a story on the lockes' divorce. We sat on it while it was under wraps, but now that it's out, we have to cover it. Look, I know this is a difficult situation, and we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I hope you can understand.

Kyle: I knew the story would get out there eventually, but i want to know what your angle is going to be. My biggest concern's harrison.

Billy: Of course. And we're not gonna make him a priority in the story, but we can't run it without him. Look, kyle, we're not gonna exploit the situation, okay? But we can't run away from abbott-related news if we want to maintain our credibility.

Kyle: Look, I know I can't stop you from running the story, and I'm sure you have no intention of creating problems for me. But this is only going to get bigger from here, and your temptation to use your connections to create headlines, it will be there. It is the nature of the beast.

Billy: This isn't gonna turn into some tabloid journalism, okay? This is about getting the facts, and we don't want to hurt anyone.

Kyle: But that's gonna happen anyway. You know, public knowledge of a painful situation only makes it more painful for everyone involved. You know, harrison is still too young to grasp what is really going on, but he sense things. And the more scrutiny and judgment tara's under, the harder it will be for her to hide her emotions from him.

Billy: Look, I wish there was a way to prevent that, but i just don't see how.

Kyle: Can you think about this as a father for a moment? Think about what johnny and katie went through when you were accused of shooting chance. I get you have a business to run, I know you say it isn't personal, but, billy, it is personal, and we are family. And I'm asking you to reconsider. Like many people with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis

Abby: On our second date, chance and I, we went ice-skating.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Abby: And it was freezing outside, so chance gave me this to wear. And then after, we went back to his suite and...everything felt right. And one thing led to another, and it was -- that was the first time that we were together.

Devon: Mm.

Abby: And we knew that we had something special. I'm sorry. Is that tmi?

Devon: No, no, not at all.

Abby: I just -- I love that he sent this to me so I could feel close to him when he's far away, and that he knew to send it to one of my very closest friends.

Devon: Yeah, he knew that you needed a shoulder to lean on.

Abby: Just, I'm still worried about him. I just wish I could hear from him again.

Devon: Yeah, I know you do, but you got to look at it like this -- the fact that he thought enough to send that means that he was planning on there being lags in communication. Right? It's 'cause of the circumstances. And that letter right there, that's his voice telling you that everything is gonna be just fine. Nothing is gonna stop him from coming home, abby. Does that help?

Abby: [ Breathes deeply ] It does. It really does.

Devon: Good. Let's keep the momentum going.

Nate: [ Raspy breathing ]

[ Sighs ]

Elena: You're back. Thank god.

Moses: So, he's gonna be okay?

Elena: Yeah, he should be fine. We should get him to the hospital to have a proper examination. So you didn't realize you were allergic to crab cakes?

Nate: No. I've never been allergic to anything before. I know allergies can come on at any point in life.

Elena: Well, thank goodness society has epinephrine handy for things like this.

Nate: [ Breathes deeply ] I'm damn lucky you were here when I needed you.

Nikki: I have every confidence that victoria can take care of herself emotionally just as well as she does professionally. However, I haven't forgotten how you toyed with her during the cyaxares deal, and I don't want to see her treated that way again. Nor do I relish her having to deal with what comes when one is involved with a powerful man on the rebound.

Ashland: Well, I'm not on the rebound with victoria or anyone else. And the last thing I would do is take advantage of her friendship. Like I said, that's what this is -- a friendship. And she wants nothing more, and neither do I, and we've been very open with each other about that.

Nikki: Is that so?

Ashland: My time here -- in genoa city -- it's finite. Your daughter and I are enjoying each other's company while I'm around.

Nikki: I suppose I could take your word on that. But there is something you could do to set my mind at ease.

Victor: I think we should all get together for drinks later.

Victoria: What? You and mom and me and ashland?

Victor: Yeah.

Ashland: You want the four of us to have cocktails together?

Nikki: It'll give us all a chance to get to know each other better.

Ashland: Well, I'm sure it'll make for an interesting get-together.

[ Chuckles ]

Nikki: Is that a yes?

Victor: Or do you have you some objection to my invitation?

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] No, of course not.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Victoria: But I can't accept on ashland's behalf.

Victor: Mm-hmm.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Ashland: [ Read] Your mother just invited us to join victor and her for drinks. I'm in if you are.

Victoria: You and mom hatched this little scheme together?

Victor: It's just an invitation to a little social outing. Yes or no? A lot of people think dealing with copd is a walk in the park.

Devon: All right. What do you really think? 'Cause that's the new artist i just signed to winter's mood.

Abby: Fantastic.

Devon: Yeah?

Abby: It really is. I could listen to this all day.

Devon: Oh, good. Good.

Abby: Thank you. For having me over, for the pep talk, for feeding me, and then giving me this amazing music to listen to that makes me want to go take a walk and feel the sunshine on my face. I'm so lucky to have you. And this baby is beyond blessed to have you in his or her life. How can I ever thank you?

Devon: Abby, the smile on your face is all I ever need.

Kyle: I understand I'm asking a lot of you, but there are a lot of people you care about involved, victoria for one.

Billy: So you've heard.

Kyle: She's seeing ashland locke. Yeah. And you must be concerned she's getting involved with him under these circumstances. Billy, you've got to think about the impact the article might have on your and her kids.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Well, victoria isn't a factor. Her and ashland aren't in a relationship, and she had nothing to do with the divorce. But I hear what you're saying, and I'll take it under advisement.

Kyle: Okay. Thank you.

Billy: How's summer doing in all this? Can't be easy having this dropped in your lap while you're planning a wedding.

Kyle: You asking for the story?

Billy: This conversation's off the record, kyle. This is just between me and you.

Kyle: Summer's handling it better than I could have hoped. As rough as it's gotten at times, she's been accepting and understanding. We're dealing with it together, and we've never been stronger.

Billy: Good. I'm glad to hear that. And I wish you two the best.

Kyle: You sure about that?

Billy: I'm being sincere. Look, you two got a long road ahead of you. And this is from summer's perspective, but it's not easy to accept that...

[ Sighs ] Someone your partner once loved and has a kid with is now going to be a permanent fixture in your life. Because make no mistake about it, you getting involved in harrison's life means tara will be involved, as well.

Summer: Okay. Yeah, mom, I... I have moments of insecurity, and at times, I get...a bit overwhelmed, but kyle has done everything he can to show me that, even though our future doesn't look exactly like we planned, nothing has changed between us. And I can't wait to be kyle's wife, and, honestly, I think that, over time, I'm gonna make a really good stepmom to harrison.

Phyllis: 'Kay. Listen, I don't doubt kyle's love for you. I know he loves you. I know that. It's tara that I'm concerned about. I've had my reservations about that girl since she walked back into this town with her kid in tow. A woman like that, they'll do anything to use that kid as a wedge between two people.

Summer: Okay. Well, you don't know her.

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] Okay. Yeah, I know women like that. I really do. Kyle's mom, diane, she used kyle as a wedge between me and jack years ago. And I may or may not have done the same thing. It's just, summer, it's so easy for the lines to get blurred when you think it's best for your kid. I want you to watch her.

Summer: Okay. Well, look -- tara and I have had a couple of private conversations, and we've talked about how we know where we both are and how we support one another. But I promise you, I am not taking anything at face value with her. No, I am keeping my eyes wide open.

Tara: So you have a big, new idea on how to get summer out of town.

Sally: Sure do.

Tara: [ Scoffs ] I'm not sure I want to hear it. I mean, you have this ability to put on this genuine and friendly front. I saw it when we first met. And now I see the real you. How am I supposed to trust someone so manipulative and devious?

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Devious? Try again. I'm a survivor. I always have been. And you are, too. Ashland might knock you down with this divorce, but you're gonna get right back up. That takes strength and grit, and those are qualities you should be proud of.

Tara: You're making a lot of assumptions about me.

Sally: I'm a good judge of character. But, look, if we're going to join forces, not only do you have to trust me, but I have to trust you. It only works if we're a team.

Tara: And what happens if this plan of yours blows up in our faces?

Sally: It won'T. Because I know how much summer loves kyle.

Tara: And that works in our favor somehow?

Sally: It won't work without it. And the best part -- summer's leaving will be her own doing.

Tara: [ Sighs ] What can I du with less asthma?

Devon: That's insane. It was an unknown food allergy?

Nate: Previously unknown. But needing an epinephrine shot definitely made me aware.

Devon: But you're fine now?

Nate: A lot better than I was before. Gonna miss eating crab cakes, though.

Moses: I thought nate was gonna die.

Devon: I'm sure that was terrifying for you. He's -- he's gonna be just fine, though.

Moses: I mean, I completely panicked or froze, but elena never lost her head. She was amazing.

Nate: She was. She literally saved my life. Well, uh, I'm gonna take you back to your place, and then I'm gonna get some rest. I'm sorry you had to deal with all that, moses.

Moses: Don't apologize. I'm just glad you're okay.

Nate: I owe you a meal, okay?

Moses: Dessert.

Nate: You got it. We'll talk soon.

Moses: Okay.

Devon: All right. Well, hey, take care of yourself, man.

Nate: I will. Thanks, man.

Devon: Yeah.

Elena: See you later.

Devon: See ya.

[ Door closes ] You okay?

Moses: Yeah.

Devon: You don't look like it. You sure?

Moses: Uh, no. No, not really.

Ashland: Hey.

Victoria: Hi. Um, thanks for meeting me a bit early.

Ashland: Well, it's a good thing phyllis decided I could stay here after all.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] How did you manage to change her mind?

Ashland: Well, as you know, I almost always get what I want.

Victoria: I've experienced the joys of outplaying phyllis. It's quite a rush.

Ashland: You know, winning her over was probably good preparation for tonight. I mean, do I look all right? I want to make a good impression on your mother and father.

Victoria: I know. Look, a double date with my mom and dad wasn't exactly on my calendar. I'm sorry that they set us up like this.

Ashland: It's been a long time since I felt like a teenager getting the once-over for asking out the most popular girl in town. This should be fun.

Victoria: Depends on your idea of fun.

Ashland: Well, they're just trying to look after you, that's all. Victor and I have a good rapport. He's probably just trying to gauge my intentions.

Victoria: My dad has disapproved of almost every man in my life.

Ashland: Probably because he knows most men aren't anywhere near good enough for you.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: Nikki, on the other hand, was a bit of a wild card. She grilled me pretty good before she extended this invitation.

Victoria: Yeah, she can be overprotective, but she respects me and the choices that I make.

Ashland: Well, this should be a fun night, then. We'll have a little bit of a chitchat, maybe a few laughs, and then we'll be move on.

Victoria: Well, thank you for going along with it. I know you have far more important things on your mind right now.

Ashland: You know, all I want to think about is spending more time with you in the last months that I have. I do have a favor to ask of you.

Victoria: 'Course.

Ashland: I'm hoping that you won't tell your mother and father about my illness -- or anybody else, for that matter.

Victoria: No, I would never do that. That's your story to tell.

Kyle: Did you and phyllis make some progress with the wedding plans?

Summer: Uh, yeah. Told you we could put together a wedding for the ages, even without a lot of time to plan. I'm just so excited everything's coming together.

Kyle: I am, too. I love you.

Summer: I love you, too.

Tara: Oh, hey. Sorry for interrupting.

Kyle: No worries. I'm glad you're here. I was just about to tell summer something, and I want you to hear it, too. I...had a conversation with billy today. He told me chanccomm is planning on covering the divorce.

Summer: Well, that's not good. I mean, I can't say I'm surprised. You and ashland are both public figures of a sort, so it is gonna be news.

Kyle: I tried to talk billy out of it, but I think all we can hope for is that he will stick to his word and keep it professional.

Tara: Unlike the salacious tabloids. I guess that's something. But no matter who reports it, harrison's paternity situation is going to come to light. I'm dreading that moment.

Kyle: So am I. But we'll get through it together. I'm worried about how the media coverage might affect ashland. As soon as we can get that custody agreement official, the better.

Tara: Yeah, we're both in agreement there.

Tara: But, hey, enough divorce talk. When I got back, I saw harrison was out with the nanny, playing on the front lawn.

Kyle: Yeah. He's still out there.

Tara: He said he was having fun but that he really wanted to go to the park with his daddy. Evidently, your outing yesterday made quite the impression. Do you think you could take him?

Kyle: I'd love to. As soon as summer and I are finished talking.

Summer: Um, we can talk later. You should go.

Kyle: Are you sure? I don't mind.

Summer: Yeah, I'm sure.

Kyle: I appreciate you understanding. Thanks.

[ Keys rattling ]

[ Door closes ]

Tara: I hope you can hang out for a minute. There's something important that you and I should discuss. Front loader odor.

Moses: I just can't help but think, what kind of a doctor am I gonna be if I freak out at every medical emergency? I mean, especially if it's life-or-death like that.

Devon: You're gonna be a fine doctor. You were just caught up, man. Caught up in the shock of the moment. That's all. And what you were reacting to may be a little bit deep-seated, you know? It's just, losing neil at a young age, out of the blue like that, it's traumatizing. It's traumatizing for all of us.

Moses: Yeah, but my dad's death was part of the reason why I wanted to become a doctor in the first place. You know, so I could help people. But today, I was completely worthless.

Devon: First of all, don't talk about yourself like that. Ever. All right? Anybody dealing with somebody close to them in jeopardy, it's scary. And when you go to medical school, they're gonna teach you how to deal with situations like that. I guarantee you elena was just as scared as you were about nate. The only difference is, she has years of experience. She's worked at hospitals. She's -- she's trained herself to become the kind of person that can set aside her emotions and just focus on the situation. You got to give yourself a break, man. I promise you that, in time, you will be exactly where you need to be.

Moses: Thanks.

Devon: Yeah.

Nate: Saying thank you doesn't quite cover it.

Elena: I'm a doctor. It's what we do.

Nate: You're an extraordinary doctor. And the hospital in baltimore would be lucky to have you.

Elena: Right. Like you said, it's an opportunity I shouldn't pass up.
