Billy: How was the big apple?
Victoria: Well, you know new york -- hardly a minute to catch your breath.
Billy: So, it was a short trip.
Victoria: It was, uh, enough time to accomplish quite a bit, actually.
Billy: I take it you were too busy to return my call.
Victoria: Well, I didn't know that you expected me to. You said there were no issues with the kids right before you left some cryptic remark about my rumored traveling companion.
Billy: Well, I guess I was just curious because you didn't mention that you weren't traveling alone when you left.
Victoria: Tell me something, billy. Why does it bother you so much that I took a trip with ashland locke?
Ashland: Well, I assume your lawyers have had ample time to look over the new custody arrangement documents. Any questions?
Kyle: We agree it's pretty much as discussed.
Tara: My lawyer tells me it's very straightforward, no loopholes or surprises. But I still have to wonder. What motivated you to completely reverse your position on kyle being a part of harrison's life?
Ashland: Have you noticed that tara asks too many questions for her own good? You take the win, right?
Tara: Does victoria newman have anything to do with your sudden change of heart?
Ashland: See what I mean? Way too many questions. And, really, how dare you ask me about my personal life, considering the way that you handle yours? Who I spend my time with is my business and none of yours.
Tara: It's not a hard question, ash. Why are you avoiding it?
Ashland: You know, you're getting your divorce without a long, drawn-out battle. My lawyers in new york are busy rolling out the papers. They've already changed my will.
Tara: Your will?
Ashland: Yeah, I have an awful lot of money and a very big company. It's all got to go somewhere.
Tara: [ Sighs ]
[ Laughter ]
Devon: It's not that great.
Lily: Well, look who's here.
Devon: Hey.
Lily: Two of my favorite people.
Devon: Oh, it's good to see you, too. How'd the sleepover go with johnny and katie?
Lily: It was great, actually. Your instruments were a success, so thank you so much.
Devon: Nice. You're welcome.
Lily: How is moses?
Devon: He's doing just fine, just doing his own thing, being a teenager.
Lily: Oh, yeah. I remember those days. How are you? How is your case going?
Amanda: Well, um, officially, I am off the case.
Lily: What? But it was so important to your mom.
Amanda: Well, since I'm no longer sutton's attorney, i don't have to keep this secret anymore.
Lily: What -- what secret?
[ Cellphone ringing ]
Sally: Eric. Thanks for getting back to me. I hope you have some good news.
Eric: I thought long and hard about this, but I decided, um, there's nothing wrong with doing summer newman a favor.
Sally: So, you'll do it?
Eric: Yes. I'll call angelina marchetti, and I'll recommend summer for this very prestigious job in italy, as soon as you give me the word. Are you ready to move ahead on this?
Sally: [ Sighs ] Aw, c'mon flowers.

Billy: I'm not bothered about your trip with ashland, but I am worried about how much time you're spending with him.
Victoria: Why?
Billy: Because he's in the middle of a very messy divorce, victoria, and I don't think you understand just how messy it's about to get.
Victoria: Ashland has been very open and honest with me, and what I know isn't based on innuendo and gossip, like what you think you know.
Billy: Well, I'm glad he's open and honest with you, but that doesn't protect our kids from potential fall-out.
Victoria: I would never expose our kids to anything negative due to ashland's divorce. And, quite frankly, I don't believe that you think they would be affected. I think you're upset because I'm finally moving on with my life.
Billy: Well, that would make me hypocritical, wouldn't it?
Victoria: Well, there you go. And I also think that you liked the idea that I was pining for you. That was a real ego boost, wasn't it?
Billy: I've always wanted you to be happy. I've always believed you deserve more in your life than just kids and work.
Victoria: Right, but just not too much more. That's the issue, right, that I've been spending too much time with ashland? So, tell me -- uh, how many hours in the week would you deem appropriate?
Billy: Okay, don't do this, alright?
Victoria: No, it's a legitimate question. The trip to new york was too much. So, what about an afternoon by the lake or a cocktail party? Or god forbid that we both get invited to talk at a week-long business symposium.
Billy: Okay, you've made your point, but I'm still worried about the children. That's all.
Victoria: Well, you don't have to be worried about the kids because I am as concerned about them as you are.
Billy: Hmm.
Victoria: So, before I pick them up from school today, tell me -- how did the big sleepover go at your new place?
Billy: It was great. We had a blast. Of course they tried to get away with murder, but we kept them in line. Johnny asked a very interesting question. He was wondering if lily and i were married because we're living together now.
Victoria: How did you handle that one, exactly?
Billy: I told him the truth like I always do. I said no, but we are in love.
Victoria: Well, that's, uh, a very serious statement, especially for our children.
Billy: I felt like they deserved the truth. Given our last go-around and our non-wedding commitment ceremony, I could understand why it could be a little confusing. Not that I regret any of it.
Victoria: Nor do I.
Billy: Look, I am trying to be transparent in my life, in all aspects of it, so I'm just gonna say I am worried about how involved you're getting with ashland locke. And you're right. It's not just about the kids. I don't want you to get hurt, either.
Tara: I'm assuming you cut me out of your will, but I need to know. Did you wipe out harrison, as well?
Ashland: Well, he's not my flesh and blood. That paternity test that I took confirmed that. I'd be well within my rights if I removed him, don't you think? You'd punish him just to get back at me?
Kyle: Regardless of what you say or do, harrison will never want for anything. He is an abbott. We take care of our own. You can count on that.
Ashland: Ever since I found the truth out about my son, I've been trying to figure out what traits that you and harrison share. And you know what? I can't see it. I look at harrison, and I see myself. Maybe it's ego. Maybe it's love. Maybe it's the imprint that I've already had on his life.
Tara: Thank you, kyle, for promising to support harrison. I can't begin to tell you how much it means to me.
Kyle: You'll never have to worry about our son's future. He will live a full and happy life, with or without one penny of the locke fortune.
Tara: Your nasty little games can't hurt us now. We'll all have a hand in raising him. But unlike you, kyle and I will never use that little boy as a weapon.
Ashland: Alright, go ahead. Make plans. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll get more than six months to live them out.
Eric: Sally, you still there?
Sally: Uh, yes.
[ Sighs ] I am incredibly grateful that you're doing this enormous favor for me.
Eric: So, when do you want me to call and recommend summer for this job?
Sally: Um, I need you to hold tight for just a minute. I just want to set this up just right.
Eric: You have to set things up? Why would you have to set anything up? Sally, you said this was all above board.
Sally: No, it is. Trust me. I just want to make sure everything's lined up properly first. Thanks again. I really appreciate you putting aside our past differences to do something nice for summer.
Eric: Take care, sally.
Sally: Are you absolutely sure? Okay. Yeah. Well, uh, please let me know if anything else becomes available. Ciao. Well, I guess you heard my bad news. Turns out I did not get that job in italy. Marchetti did their research, and apparently someone in L.A. Bad-mouthed me.
Summer: Mm. Imagine that. Sounds like karmic justice. Oh, well.
Sally: Speaking of karma, your name came up, too. Jaycee tried gain flings for the first time the other day.
Lily: I mean, I knew that your biological mother referred the case to you, but I didn't know that your family was directly involved.
Amanda: Yeah. And please forgive me for not being more honest. I just -- I really wanted to win the case on my own merits and not by garnering sympathy as the child of the murder victim.
Devon: I'm sure lily can understand how personal this all was for you.
Lily: Yeah, of course. I mean, but now I'm -- I'm curious. What happened? Why are you off the case?
Sally: It was you, wasn't it, summer? What did you say about me to the people at marchetti?
Summer: [ Scoffs ] Sally, I had nothing to do with whoever shared your sordid past. And besides, I would love nothing more than for you to move to italy and live happily ever after, far, far away.
Sally: That's probably the nicest thing you've ever said about me.
Summer: And just so you know, I happen to value my professional reputation, so i better not find out that you've been trash-talking me to them, either.
Sally: Okay, whoa. Slow your roll. Your name came up in a good way.
Summer: Wait. They know me?
Sally: Yeah. Apparently, they're aware of your work at jcv and they love what you've done with the brand.
Summer: Really?
Sally: Yeah. So, once again, you're the golden one and I'm the problem.
Summer: Huh. Well, what do you know? Looks like all my hard work has paid off.
Tara: Six months? What do you mean by that?
Ashland: [ Sighs ] I saw my doctors when I was back in new york. Something came up on the scans after my heart attack. Small cell carcinoma. The prognosis is not good. Six months, tops.
Kyle: You believe this?
Ashland: Well, you should because it's the truth. It's not some mind game. I don't have time for that, nor do I have the taste for it anymore. Besides, what would I have to gain?
Kyle: I'm -- I'm not sure what to say.
Tara: Ash, are they sure? I mean, have you gotten a second opinion? There has to be a treatment of some kind. I mean, you certainly can afford whatever it takes for a cure.
Ashland: Stop. I'm not gonna do this with you.
Kyle: She's just trying to help.
Ashland: How I handle this is my business. And all you need to focus on is harrison and making sure that he has as much stability as possible going forward.
Tara: Well, what about treatment?
Ashland: And all I am going to focus on is making sure that every aspect of the custody agreement is clearly understood by everyone. Oh, and just to be clear, harrison is in my will. But, tara, not surprisingly, you are out. So you can forget about trying to kill me off for my money before the divorce is finalized.
Victoria: Billy, I appreciate your concern.
Billy: Does that mean you're gonna take my advice?
Victoria: It's not like i haven't been hurt before, several times, by a man that i loved that I was married to more than once and who I now co-parent two very wonderful, beautiful children with. I'm not putting this all on you. I know I caused my fair share of hurt. You don't have to worry about me or my heart being decimated by a successful, fascinating man that I barely know. I have, um -- I've survived much worse.
[ Door opens ]
Billy: [ Sighs ]
Amanda: Honestly, I just feel like my family's holding out on me. Not that, you know, they're lying. I just think that they're not telling me the whole story. And don't get me wrong. I'm not accusing my grandfather of anything. I just -- [ Sighs ] Let's just say it didn't work out the way that I had hoped.
Lily: God, this whole situation must be so frustrating.
Amanda: Yeah, you can't even imagine. I'm just desperate to unravel this mystery.
Lily: Well, I hope you know, now that your sabbatical is over, that your job at chanccomm is waiting for you.
Amanda: I really appreciate you and billy keeping my position open for me, but i don't know if I'm ready to come back yet.
Devon: I thought you loved that job.
Amanda: I did. I do. You know, the work is challenging, and who wouldn't want to work for the two best bosses in town? But I just -- I don't know. I don't think that it's the right moment.
Lily: Why not?
Amanda: Everything has been so uncertain. But with this case, I learned a lot about myself, and I realized that I like the liberty of a solo practice and criminal defense. I feel like I can make a real difference in someone's life.
Lily: Okay. So, you're not coming back to chanccomm?
[ Laughter ]
Amanda: It's not a definite "no" yet, but I just need a little more time to see if this is the road that I'm meant to go down.
Devon: Well, I hope you know, whatever you decide, I got your back.
Lily: Yeah. Me too.
Amanda: Thank you both. But one thing I know for sure -- I still need a lot more answers about my past, and I need to find out what happened to my father. That needs to be my focus right now.
[ Keys clacking ]
[ Door opens ]
Nikki: You're back. So, how was your manhattan excursion?
Victoria: Ashland and I had a nice time.
Nikki: And? You promised when you called me that you would give me more details when you got back.
Victoria: As long as you promise not to judge.
Nikki: Well...I promise!
Victoria: Well, then you'll be pleased to know that it didn't get too serious. After we finished the work that we had to do, we had a few fabulous meals and some nice cocktails, followed up with some distracting and intriguing conversations.
Nikki: So, you provided a much-needed diversion for the man's impending divorce.
Victoria: I don't see anything wrong with that. Ashland was a lovely companion. Believe it or not, mom, he's a very nice man.
Nikki: Well, I guess I'll have to take your word for it.
Victoria: Ah! Be careful. It sounds like you're on the verge of being a little judgy.
Nikki: No, not at all. But I think you should know that news about your trip with ashland somehow got out. I don't know how many people know about it, but your father is aware.
Victoria: Ah. I can only imagine what he had to say about it.
Nikki: Well, he was curious about the reason behind the trip.
Victoria: I guess I better brace myself for a bruising lecture.
Nikki: For the record, he wasn't curious in a negative way. In fact, he didn't seem to be against the idea at all.
Tara: How can you joke about this?
Ashland: I can't help but find a little humor in the situation. I mean, our prenup ensures that you'll receive next to nothing, but even if you were to get rid of me before our divorce is final, well, you would inherit not a dime.
Tara: It's not funny. As horrible as things have gotten between us, we did share a life together for years. No matter what you think, I did love you.
Ashland: Well, you have a lovely way of showing it.
Tara: Believe it or not, i care about you, ash. And if you're not gonna take this seriously, then I will.
Ashland: Oh, I'm taking this very seriously. But please spare me the bull about how much you care about me because if you cared about me, you wouldn't have cheated on me.
Tara: You can lash out at me if you want. I realize how painful this must be for you.
Ashland: I don't need your pity, okay? I just wanted you both to understand why I made the compromise in the custody agreement, okay? And that's why I came back to genoa city. So, whatever remaining days that I have left, I want to be close my son.
Tara: Believe it or not, my heart goes out to you.
Ashland: [ Inhales deeply ] Let me be clear. I did not share this with you to get your sympathy. Now, unfortunately, I find myself in the situation where i have to ask something of the two of you, something critically important. A lot of people think dealing with copd is a walk in the park.
Kyle: Okay, what is it you need to ask of us?
Ashland: Oh, it's a simple request. I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't share my medical condition with anyone.
Tara: Of course.
Kyle: I understand how that news could be detrimental to your business.
Ashland: Well, this is far more than business. My main concern is harrison. I want to be the one to tell him, in my own way, when i decide the time is right.
Kyle: I think we can agree to that.
Tara: Absolutely.
Ashland: Splendid. Now that we've gotten that out of the way, I'll be back to see harrison, uh, at the, uh, agreed-upon time.
Tara: Again, ash... I'm so sorry about all of this.
Ashland: And, again, I don't need or want your pity.
Tara: [ Sighs ] This is shocking. I mean, can you believe it?
Kyle: I mean, can you? I mean, ashland sounded convincing, but I still have to wonder.
Tara: About what?
Kyle: Is this another one of his ploys?
Tara: Why would he lie about something so terrible? He has nothing to gain by this. And it would explain why he did the 180 on harrison's custody.
Kyle: True.
Tara: Ashland has always been so strong, I mean, almost invincible, it seemed. That heart attack barely slowed him down. But now this -- it'S... it's devastating.
Kyle: Tara, I have to ask you. Does -- does this change anything?
Tara: About what?
Kyle: How do you feel about the divorce? Do you still want to go through with it? Or do you want to try to repair things with ashland so you can be there in the end?
Lily: My heart breaks for her. It's like amanda put so much effort into finding her family, and it's not the joyous reunion that she hoped for.
Billy: Well, I'll, uh -- I'll reach out to her and let her know if she needs anything, we're available to her. I'll tell you what -- I'm really gonna miss having her around to try and save me from myself.
Lily: Well, you have me for that. But, yes, I will miss her, too. But the good news it's not a done deal yet. She could come back to work for chanccomm.
Billy: Yeah, I don't know about that. She's a great defense attorney. I mean, she was there for me when I needed her most, when i was wrongfully accused. And if that's the path she wants to go down, she's got my full support. Most importantly, she's a good friend, and I hope she finds all the happiness she's looking for.
Lily: Well, I hope she's on the path to finding the right type of legal work for her. And speaking of working, we should be doing some of that ourselves.
Billy: Yeah. Speaking of, I have done some digging around ashland and tara's divorce, but no one around the couple is willing to talk.
Lily: Wait, I thought we agreed to not go after that story for kyle's sake. I guess you need saving from yourself already?
Victoria: Well, imagine that. My parents thinking about ashland locke as a romantic prospect for me. Yes, mom, I have a connection with the guy, but we're just getting to know each other.
Nikki: I'm just saying it was refreshing to not hear your father disparaging a man interested in his daughter.
Victoria: I think that dad would like to see me with anyone smart, successful, and that doesn't have the name billy abbott.
Nikki: You're probably right. Now, I'm just gonna say one more thing about your not-serious trip. It must have done you some good 'cause you look rested and happy. And for that, I am grateful. And now I should get back to work before I am tempted to ask you intrusive questions or get all judgy.
Victoria: Yeah, that's a good idea. I'll talk to you later.
[ Cellphone ringing ]
Victoria: Hi.
Ashland: You feeling any jet lag?
Victoria: Oh, maybe just a little.
Ashland: Well, good, because I have the perfect sure-fire cure for that.
Victoria: Oh, do you, now?
Ashland: Having lunch with someone who skipped time zones with you snaps you out of it completely.
Victoria: I like the sound of that. Lunch it is.
Imani: Amanda, we need to talk.
Amanda: We are all talked out.
Imani: Grandfather is furious. You left him high and dry, and his whole legal team is scrambling now. He feels you totally betrayed him.
Amanda: Well, that is funny because naya told me that he's completely calmed down.
Imani: Are you accusing me of lying?
Amanda: I'm just saying that sutton certainly does run hot and cold.
Imani: Yes, he does, but you don't know how to handle that the way we do.
Amanda: By constantly acquiescing to him?
Imani: I was raised to respect my elders.
Amanda: Well, the one advantage about how I was raised -- I learned to only respect people that earn it.
Imani: Hmm. I guess it was easier to walk away than it was to work effectively with your client.
Amanda: Regardless of how you feel about me leaving this case, I'm sure that our grandfather will land on his feet. He always seems to.
Imani: Not necessarily. His defense is in shambles.
Amanda: Gee, maybe he should have thought about that before he fired me.
Imani: You know he didn't mean that.
Amanda: No, I cannot be sure about anything when it comes to sutton, except that he is stubborn and controlling.
Imani: Yes, grandfather is stubborn and controlling, but the rest of the family has learned how to understand that, and we meet him where he is.
Amanda: Well, I don't feel the need to cater to somebody who wanted to have me discarded and forgotten.
Imani: Are you still going to pursue this on your own?
Amanda: How could I not?
Imani: Then he is not going to be happy.
Amanda: Well, that's too damn bad because I was born into this world with nothing. My only birthright is the truth. So nothing will stop me from getting it. Counting your veggies can be hard.
Billy: I agreed to not break the story, but part of the story has already broken. Ashland's divorce is already making headlines across other media outlets. It's only a matter of time before the truth comes out, especially with kyle going after partial custody of his boy.
Lily: Kyle is the reason why we have to tread cautiously here.
Billy: Okay, how long do you think we're gonna be able to keep it a secret, the fact that tara's staying at the abbott house? It's probably already out.
Lily: Okay, I mean, I'll give you that.
Billy: Look, I don't want to turn this into another adam-style exposé, but not following this story would go against our journalistic practices, okay? And not to mention give our competitors the edge.
Lily: I think it's more like the adam exposé than you're willing to admit, except instead of raking adam over the coals, we're going after a guy who turned down our offer to buy his company and now is victoria's new friend.
Billy: So, why are you bringing up victoria?
Lily: Because I can tell it still bugs you -- victoria and locke.
Billy: Okay, look, I'm not thrilled that they're spending time together, but I said the same thing to victoria. This is about my kids. I don't want them caught up in the mess, but I'm also not gonna make this a bigger mess than it already is.
Lily: Right. So, wouldn't that mean ignoring the story?
Billy: Lily, I can do this. I can keep a level head, and i can still be objective. Yes, I am emotionally and personally connected to the story, but at the same time, it doesn't mean it's not newsworthy.
Lily: Yeah, but your personal connection might mean that we're not the right outlet to cover it, for all the reasons you laid out.
Billy: Okay, so, how about we do this? I'll talk to kyle. I'll let him see what we're about to publish, and if he thinks it goes too far, then I'll pull the story.
Lily: Okay. I mean, you're right. It's news, and we should cover it.
Tara: I can see why you'd ask that question, but I could never go back to ashland, not now. I accept that my marriage is over.
Kyle: I doubt he wants to spend his final months alone.
Tara: Even so, he wouldn't want me back. He's far too proud a man, even under these dire circumstances.
Kyle: Well, maybe his bravado is covering up his fears.
Tara: Oh, I doubt that. I mean, did you see the way he treated me, the contempt in his eyes? No. He -- he probably took great pleasure in telling me about his diagnosis, anything to make me feel more guilty.
Kyle: Even now?
Tara: That's who he is. And as sad as the news is, i have to focus on the future. And right now, harrison is my main concern.
Kyle: [ Sighs ]
Tara: I mean, my poor baby is going to be absolutely devastated when he finds out.
Kyle: I'm worried about him, too. But I will do whatever it takes to help you and harrison get through this.
Summer: Uh, get through what?
Ashland: You know, I had no intention of telling tara just then, but my emotions got the better of me. Seeing her and kyle and envisioning their future raising...[Sighs] My son... why do those words get stuck in my throat when I say them?
Victoria: Harrison is your son. He always will be. I mean, he -- he hasn't ever known any father other than you until now.
Ashland: It's hard to think about not being there to raise him, guide him into manhood, train him to take over my business interests one day.
Victoria: It's an overwhelming twist of fate. There's just so much to consider and to plan for.
Ashland: And time flies when you're dying.
Victoria: [ Chuckles ] I still don't understand how you can joke about it.
Ashland: Defense mechanism? Is it working?
Victoria: [ Sighs ]
Imani: Wow. I'm almost afraid of you. Sounds like you mean business.
Amanda: Well, I'm glad you finally understand me. So, will you be going home now?
Imani: No, not yet. I actually decided to hang around genoa city for a little while.
Amanda: Really? Why would you do that? I'm officially off the case. And I promise you I will not be changing my mind and go crawling back to sutton.
Imani: [ Laughs ] You're right. I get you, so I know that's not who you are. In fact, that's one of the reasons I've genuinely grown to like you. I am impressed with how you stand up to anyone and everyone who gets in your way.
Amanda: I think we have that in common.
Imani: [ Chuckles ] I'd like to find out what other traits we share.
[ Laughs ] I don't know when it hit me, but I am not hating the idea of having a sister anymore.
Front loader odor.
Imani: I know I can't compare my upbringing to yours, but just so you know, mine wasn't all sweetness and light, either.
Amanda: [ Scoffs ] Born into the lap of luxury with a mother and a father and a grandfather spoiling you rotten? Wow. How much worse can it get?
Imani: [ Chuckles ] Yes, they might have spoiled me. But growing up an only child in a deeply political family was a very lonely existence. Any potential friend had to be vetted like a running mate. I couldn't even have playdates until their parents' political affiliations had been checked out. So it was just easier not to have any.
Amanda: Yeah, and moving from foster family to foster family, it's not conducive to having friends, either.
Imani: I felt a sense of isolation my entire life. As an adult, my whole world revolved around advising grandfather's campaigns. We couldn't risk any potential spies from the opposing party getting too close or infiltrating our circle of trust.
Amanda: Yeah, I --
[ Chuckles ] I wish I could say that my heart breaks for you, but I -- I can'T.
[ Laughing ] I mean... I mean, really?
Imani: [ Laughs ]
Amanda: Spies?
[ Both laugh ]
Imani: Well, I would like to change that.
Amanda: Ah.
Imani: I have a sister that i would really like to get to know, and regardless of what grandfather thinks. Maybe I can help you find that truth you're so desperately searching for.
Amanda: Honestly, I -- I can't help wondering if you're here just trying to keep tabs on me.
Imani: [ Scoffs ] That's what you think, after i just put my heart on the line?
Amanda: [ Sighs ]
Imani: Yes, I was tough on you when we first met, but that's because I was taught to be apprehensive of everybody that came into my life. But I put that behind me now that I've gotten to know you, and it saddens me that you can't see a sincere gesture.
[ Sighs ] For the life of me, I don't know what you see in that stubborn, rude girlfriend of yours, and from what I've heard, amanda's twin is just like her.
Devon: Who are you talking to right now? You don't know me like that. And you don't need to be bad-mouthing amanda or my wife who you never met.
Imani: Well, the one I did meet has refused to acknowledge our connection. I mean, really, what family does she have left?
Amanda: If you're here to try and get me back on the case, you've wasted a trip.
Naya: I'm not here to ask you for anything. I'm here to warn you. You don't want sutton ames for an enemy. You can't just walk away from this. For your own well-being, you need to stick to this case.
Amanda: [ Laughs ] Seriously? Is that a threat?
Summer: Well? Uh, what's going on?
Tara: Uh, kyle and I were... talking, and he promised to help me relocate to genoa city.
Summer: Really? Kyle, that's -- that's it? Because you've been helping tara do that for a while now.
Kyle: Well, we were just discussing it's going to be a rocky transition period with everything going on.
[ Cellphone pings ]
Summer: Bad news?
Tara: No. No. I just remembered that I have some errands to run, something to get for harrison. Bye.
[ Door closes ]
Summer: Okay, what did i really walk in on? And the truth this time. No more secrets, remember? That was our promise.
Kyle: Of course I'm going to tell you, but it's got to be kept confidential.
Summer: Yes, of course. Whatever you tell me will stay between us.
Kyle: Ashland is very sick. In fact, he's dying.
Summer: Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Poor harrison. That's horrible. Wait, what is this gonna mean for him and tara?
Kyle: [ Sighs ]
Victoria: I hope you don't think that I'm trying to pry.
Ashland: Go ahead. Ask away. I've got nothing to lose.
Victoria: Well, I'm just wondering -- how does this diagnosis -- how does it affect your future plans? I mean, have you thought about what's gonna happen to locke communications group?
Ashland: You know, I've been so focused on harrison, I really haven't given it much thought, but it definitely is something that I need to get an answer for soon.
Victoria: I mean, you don't have anyone in line to take over, a valued right hand?
Ashland: Well, there's no number two, technically, but there are some good people that I've groomed over the years, but no one enough to trust with the company after I'm gone. It's a true dilemma.
Victoria: Yeah. I imagine it is. Which is why I think you should look into treatment. I hope you don't mind, but i took the liberty of doing a little research, and there are some experimental possibilities.
Ashland: Oh, well, thanks. I've done some research on my own, and of the few experimental treatments out there, the side effects are a little too severe. And, you know, I would really rather not to have this conversation with you anymore. When you and I are together, i would love for it to be an illness-free zone.
Victoria: I can appreciate that.
Ashland: Good. So, what else would you like to talk about?
Victoria: You know, I really don't want to talk.
Ashland: You don't?
Victoria: I want you to kiss me, like you almost did when we were in new york.
