Episode #12124 ~ Lily keeps the peace between Jack and Billy. Kyle senses trouble with Tara. Victoria commiserates with Ashland.
Provided By Suzanne
Ashland: To you taking time out of your busy schedule to join me for dinner.
Victoria: Hope you're not accusing me of being a workaholic.
Ashland: Takes one to know one.
[ Cellphone chimes ] Sorry about that.
Victoria: Oh, no, not at all.
Ashland: There we are. Where were we?
Victoria: You just put your phone away.
Ashland: Yeah, you deserve my undivided attention. You're far more interesting than the business merger that I'm working on right now. And unless you would like to maybe see some spreadsheets, i could get your opinion on if you're interested.
Victoria: Don't think we know each other well enough to talk about spreadsheets.
Ashland: What was I thinking?
Victoria: [ Laughs ] Well, you know, we could banter about business -- I'm sure we both have stories -- or we could talk about your latest exotic vacation or four-star restaurants that you know off the beaten path, where you like to ski. Or we could really talk. I mean, you do have a lot going on, after all.
Ashland: I'm surprised you want to dive in right away.
Victoria: I know you're going through a complicated divorce, and as you well know, I've been in a similar situation, so I'm here if you want to open up about it.
Kyle: [ Sighs ] Is harrison asleep?
Tara: Not yet. Despite my best efforts.
Kyle: [ Chuckles ] Where does he get the energy?
Tara: Well, I wish I knew.
Kyle: So, have you heard any more from locke?
Tara: What else is there to say after telling me that I can only be in my son's life as long as you're not in it? It's cruel. Trying not to let harrison see how upset I am.
Kyle: You aren't in this alone. I'm not gonna stand around and let him bully you into doing his bidding. I spoke with my lawyer. He agreed with what my dad and i told you earlier -- locke might threaten to take harrison and go for full custody, but it doesn't mean he'll get it. We will fight him.
Tara: I spoke to my lawyer too.
Kyle: Good. I'm sure they said the same thing. Tara, what did they tell you?
Lily: So, how do I look?
Billy: Well, well, you look spectacular.
Lily: Yeah, I'm running very behind, 'cause you convinced me to join you in the shower half an hour before our company arrives.
Billy: Speaking of, I think i missed behind my ears. You want to head upstairs for round two?
Lily: Oh, no, no, you are clean enough, handsome. You stay where you are.
Billy: Yes, ma'am.
Lily: Also, social occasion, okay? No pumping jack for info on ashland.
Billy: [ Sighs ] So I can't even get verification on who may or may not be living under his roof right now?
Lily: What are you talking about?
Billy: Well, I heard tara locke and her son moved in to the abbott house a few days ago.
Lily: That's odd.
Billy: Mm-hmm.
Lily: It doesn't matter. Rude to invite jack over and grill him.
[ Doorbell rings ]
Billy: You're no fun, but i got it. There he is. Please come in.
Jack: Thank you. Thank you for inviting me. This is the new homestead, i like it.
Lily: Yes.
Billy: Yes, it is.
Jack: For the hostess.
Lily: Oh, thank you! I can't wait to open it.
Jack: Wow.
Billy: I've got your favorite scotch. May I pour you a glass?
Jack: That sounds fantastic.
Billy: So, how you been?
Jack: Okay. No, actually -- actually good. Work is -- we're launching a few new products. It's very exciting.
Lily: Oh, wow.
Billy: Well, that is exciting. Speaking of exciting, I heard you and locke set off some fireworks at society earlier today.
Lily: Well, you know, we hear a lot of things, so... jack, can I interest you in a tour?
Jack: I'd love a tour. Thank you.
Lily: Okay.
Jack: [ Speaks indistinctly ]
Lily: Well, this, of course, is our living room.
Jack: Gorgeous.
Lily: And follow me this way.
Abby: I hope you're enjoying your meal. It's good to see you.
Victoria: Thanks, abby.
Summer: Hey, um, well, your invitation to meet you here should have come with a warning.
Abby: What do you mean?
Summer: Those two? They were the last people I was expecting to see together, so what's going on there?
Abby: Well, I'm -- I'm not sure, but I'm assuming you don't have a problem with your aunt, so your issue must be with ashland locke.
Summer: Um, no, I don't really want to talk about that right now. Anyway, your text said that you had something that you wanted to tell me.
Abby: Well, I didn't know that he was gonna be here, but ashland is the reason I asked you to come by.
Summer: Well, why is that?
Abby: The advice that you were asking me and nina about, for your "friend"? The one who has a boyfriend who has a child with a married woman? I think I know who you're talking about. (Lucky) ooh! Me charms!

Abby: It's you, isn't it? You're the one whose boyfriend found out he has a child. Look, no judgment, but I'm only asking because I want to help.
Summer: Yeah, well, I guess you saw right through me. I don't know, I was only trying to protect kyle when I was talking about my "friend."
Abby: You know, at first, i didn't think anything of it, but then I...I started thinking about tara showing up at your engagement party, and it made me wonder.
Summer: Yeah, well, your instincts are totally right because tara and kyle had a fling back in the day in new york. And now, as a result, you have a young new cousin named harrison locke.
Abby: I'm sorry.
Summer: It's been such a nightmare. Abby, of all people, ashland locke has to be the scorned husband. I mean, kyle's been having a really hard time with all of it.
Abby: Yeah, I'm sure he's dealing with a lot. But I called you. How are you doing?
Summer: I don't know. I keep trying to convince myself that I have a handle on all of it, but I don'T. Not even close.
Ashland: The men in my position aren't supposed to have problems. When I get cut, I bleed just like everyone else.
Victoria: Well, I guess that means that you're human, but don't worry about it, your secret's safe with me.
Ashland: You know, I thought tara and I were so solid, that we shared the same goals and values. Hard work, raising harrison, enjoying the rewards of my hard work. A divorce? I didn't see that in the cards.
Victoria: I get it. There was a time when I thought that my ex-husband and I had been through so much that we could handle anything that life threw at us. And then, when I realized that that wasn't the case, I was livid. All of the deceit and the wasted time and effort. But then I eventually learned that allowing the pain and disillusionment to affect my decisions only made matters worse.
Ashland: I'm not a man who can easily let go of anger when I feel wronged.
Victoria: Sometimes, I find that civility is the best revenge.
Tara: The lawyer advised me to give in to ash's demands.
Kyle: You're just giving up? What about me?
Tara: I'm sorry, kyle.
Kyle: No, harrison's my child, too. You asked me to commit, and i told you I'm all in. So what happens if ashland takes him away from both of us?
Tara: Getting custody isn't all he wants. We haven't discussed this before, but when I married ashland, I signed up a prenup.
Kyle: So? I can't imagine you signed the rights away to your future children.
Tara: No, but it's strong and he holds all the cards.
Kyle: Your lawyer says it's ironclad?
Tara: Extremely. And in the case of divorce, i get everything I walked into the marriage with.
Kyle: [ Sighs ] Okay, what did you have before ashland?
Tara: A pretty smile and good taste. If I don't give in to ash's demands and cut you out of harrison's life, we both know what will happen. Allergens are little terrors all around us.
Billy: What do you think?
Jack: It's a lovely home.
Lily: Thank you.
Jack: Oh, by the way, don't let him get on the decorating committee -- that is, of course, unless you like floor-to-ceiling posters of baseball players on your walls.
Lily: Oh, my god, tell me he's kidding.
Billy: I can't say that. He's not kidding. That part is true, but those were my single days. Maybe I should get them out of storage and give them to ashland, since he's the president of that club now.
Jack: How is it we're talking about ashland again?
Billy: I guess I'm just interested in him. How is he? I mean, you've got a better window into his situation than i do.
Jack: Whatever window I have into ashland locke's divorce is not up for discussion. Let's just give them some privacy.
Billy: Privacy? Why -- why would I do that?
Jack: Because everyone in this room has been through it. The breakup of a relationship and then having to hear the rumors and innuendo. Let's give them some space.
Lily: Yes. Do you want to help me with the hors d'oeuvres? And, jack, please sit down. Get comfortable.
Jack: Don't mind if I do, thanks.
Lily: Are you through?
Billy: I know jack. He's hiding something. He wouldn't be pushing back this hard if he wasn'T. I need to find out what it is.
Ashland: Your suggestion to keep things "civil" I will take under advisement. But all I can think about is what went so wrong. You know, I set tara up with the perfect life, and she repaid me by cheating.
Victoria: How did the two of you meet?
Ashland: At an auction for 19th century furniture where she used to work. It was long before she decided that designing shoes was her passion. She was poised and professional and -- and so bright. I bid higher and bought more than I had planned to just so i could meet her.
Victoria: How romantic.
Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Well, she wouldn't be the first woman to use her job to land a wealthy man for a husband. I just thought she was different.
Victoria: Well, maybe she was. You had problems in your relationship, but that doesn't mean she was a gold-digger.
Ashland: She loved the chateau and all my other properties. I showed her the world as i romanced her and [Clears throat] Gave her a taste of the life that awaited her. And now all of that antique furniture that's littering my manhattan penthouse, I despise it. All of it.
Victoria: Because it reminds of a time you were happy?
Ashland: Because it reminds me of her betrayal. But you know what would make me happy? Putting all of those antiques back at auction and making a mint off of them.
Victoria: In my experience, affairs don't happen in a vacuum. I'm sure that you were a good husband -- when you were around. But you weren't just running a multi-national conglomerate, you were -- you were reveling in it. I mean, you're a famously hard-charging businessman, who works 24/7. I mean, don't you think it's possible that maybe tara felt neglected and she found someone to make her feel appreciated and give her attention?
Ashland: Neglected you say? She had a great life, and trust me, she loved the perks.
Kyle: Because of this prenup, you feel like you have to give in to ashland?
Tara: I haven't decided yet. But I've got to be honest, the prospect of losing my son along with everything else...
Kyle: That'll never happen. You have your shoe line. You don't need ashland to be financially independent.
Tara: Yes, I own my own business, but I'm drowning in debt. I'm not making a profit right now, and I -- who knows when i will. Fashion is a volatile industry. There's constant pressure to innovate, come up with new designs.
Kyle: Then let me help you. Maybe I can find something for you at jcv or fenmore'S.
Tara: I'm not asking you to call in any favors.
Kyle: No, I'm offering, because you're talented. They'd be lucky to have you, and you wouldn't have to worry about furthering your career.
Tara: That's kind of you. I know you're anxious because of where this could go. And I'm facing a sleepless night, thanks to the deadline that ashland gave to decide about this deal.
Kyle: We'll make sure you don't lose custody of harrison. You're a good mother. Any judge will see that.
Tara: But ash is going to bring out the big guns to prove I'm not. He might have the ammunition to do it, too. Aw, c'mon flowers.
Summer: You know, you're not the only person that I've gone to about this. I talked to jack, and he was wonderful and his advice was great for a while. I mean, I opened up to sharon about how insecure I was feeling even though I know kyle and i love each other, and what she said was spot on.
Abby: But you still don't feel better.
Summer: No, I mean, I do for a while, and then I -- you know, I'm alone and all those insecurities come back, and it's not because of kyle, it's because of everything else -- including tara, who just waltzed into our lives, bringing all this drama and uncertainty.
Abby: Well, I'm glad that you know how strong kyle's feelings are for you. And we all know how messed up he was back then, when you guys broke up before. But he's different now. He's changed, and that's because of you. And maybe tara is drawn to him because of their situation, but that doesn't mean he reciprocates those feelings.
Summer: Okay, so what do I do now?
Abby: I think you should keep an eye on tara. And trust kyle. And take charge in whatever way you can.
Summer: It's funny, 'cause everyone else is telling me to slow down.
Abby: Maybe that's why you feel better for a little bit, but then those insecurities start bubbling up. Because you know the advice that they're giving you is wrong.
Summer: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, yeah, what you're saying actually does make a lot of sense.
[ Chuckles ]
Abby: Hey, maybe no one knows you better than a former rival.
Summer: That is true, isn't it?
Abby: Be bold. Make sure that kyle knows that you're a team -- in every way possible.
Summer: Okay, then how do i do that?
Abby: Start planning your wedding. You know, find a venue, a date, a dress, a caterer.
[ Chuckles ] Tara locke showing up here with kyle's son, on the verge of being single, it shouldn't scare you off. It should motivate you.
Victoria: You know, sometimes, even in the best marriages, romance has a way of leveling off a bit after the "I do'S." Are you positive that maybe it didn't level off a little bit too much?
Ashland: Hmm. You know, my first instinct is to tell you no, that you're horribly mistaken. But that's how I usually act and react when somebody tells me I'm in the wrong.
Victoria: That's good to know.
Ashland: It's funny, you have a way of pulling out the painful truth in me about everything. But I won't take all the blame. Tara didn't just have an affair.
Victoria: What else did she do?
Ashland: Well, that'S... that's not important right now. Just take my word for it, tara is no saint.
Tara: I'm embarrassed to tell you. But you need to know. Ashland was out of town -- as usual -- and I went out to dinner in east hampton with friends, and I left harrison with our previous nanny. Apparently, she turned her back for one minute and harrison fell and cut his chin. I raced to the er as soon as she called me.
Kyle: And what? Stitches? Broken tooth?
Tara: No, it turned out to be a minor cut. But when ashland found out, he went ballistic. I mean, he told me that it was my fault for not being with harrison. And ever since then, whenever he gets angry, he throws it in my face and calls me negligent.
Kyle: There's not a judge in the country who would call that negligence or bad parenting. You're a good mother. I've seen it with my own eyes.
Tara: Thank you for saying that, kyle. I love harrison more than my own life.
Kyle: And there's nothing else that could be used against you?
Tara: There's nothing else. It's my 5:52 woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.
"The young and the restless"
will continue.
Tara: Harrison's been waiting for me upstairs. It's past time that I go and tuck him in. And I better get there before ash finds a way to say that I'm ignoring my son. Excuse me.
Kyle: Hey, tara.
Tara: Yes.
Kyle: Can I ask you a favor?
Tara: After everything you and your family have done for me? Of course. I owe you.
Kyle: I hope it's not too much, but I --
[ Chuckles ] Could I read harrison a story?
Tara: I love that idea, and i don't know why you would think it would be too much. You already spend so much time with him.
Kyle: Yeah, but after everything you said about not knowing what to do about ashland's ultimatum...
Tara: He might control big chunks of my life, but he's not here right now. And I can't imagine anything better than you reading our son to sleep. So please don't worry about anything I said before. I'd love it.
Jack: Last I spoke to abby, everything is on track with the baby.
Lily: That's exciting.
Jack: Yes, mariah, devon, abby, tessa -- they're all just thrilled.
Lily: Wow. Wait, I just realized, this marks the new beginning of an abbott generation, right? And chancellor.
Billy: I got an idea. Let's play a game.
Lily: [ Chuckles ] What game?
Billy: Where the host comes up with a new topic without warning.
Lily: Billy, come on.
Billy: Oh, come on, look. I am thrilled for abby. I really, really am. I just think that there's more pressing things that we can discuss.
Jack: Are we talking about ashland locke again?
Billy: Yes, we are, because i just can't put my finger on it. Now, you and locke got into it at society today, and tara locke, for whatever reason, decided that she wants to hide out in genoa city while her marriage is exploding. And now she's living under your roof, so what am I missing?
Lily: Jack, I'm really sorry about this. You weren't invited here to give an exclusive interview about ashland locke.
Billy: I get it, jack. For whatever reason, you believe that they deserve some level of privacy, and I'm just not sure why you think that. I mean, after what ashland did to jabot, the jack that I know would have no problem letting that guy get what is coming to him.
Jack: I am not going to be your source. Chanccomm is going to have to go elsewhere for content. All I'm gonna say is no comment.
Billy: I'm gonna find someone that's close to the story to talk.
Lily: Jack has made his feelings clear, billy. Let it go.
Billy: I'm not gonna let it go. I don't think I should have to, because there's obviously a story there. I'm gonna find out what's going on with locke, and you can use it as retaliation, because clearly you're too polite to go after him.
Jack: Sometimes, billy, you have to take the high road.
Billy: Jack, I'm on your side here.
Jack: If you were on my side, we would have dropped this subject long before we started it.
Billy: I don't understand why I should have to drop it. Give me one good reason why --
Jack: Because it might harm my grandson.
Summer: Can I please get one order of strawberries, two red velvet cupcakes -- and what am i forgetting? Oh, champagne. Duh.
[ Chuckles ] Okay, thanks.
Kyle: Alright, I don't get the chance to tuck kids in often. How'd I do, pretty good? Would you like me to read you a bedtime story? Alright.
[ Groans ]
[ Cellphone chimes ]
[ Cellphone chimes ] "That's my dad. I'm his son. He tells me I'm his number one. My daddy also likes to do lots of things that I like, too. I make him smile. He makes me laugh. We play baseball. We run real fast. Was he ever just a kid, who danced and played like I did? Did he ever wonder why the sky is blue or why pigs can't fly? I wish I had a secret box, where I could put my special rocks, and memories of my dad and me, just as close as close can be."
Harrison: Daddy!
Kyle: You like this book? You want me to read it again? Alright. "Daddy and me."
Look at what's happened to me.
Jack: The affair was over years ago, but as it turns out, kyle is the father of this little boy that ashland locke has been raising as his own.
Lily: Wow.
Billy: And so that's why tara's staying with you and why you got into it with ashland at society.
Jack: Don't forget the most important facet of this story -- harrison is part of your family. You have a moral obligation to look out for him.
Billy: I'm not gonna do anything to hurt the little boy. But, you know, ashland, on the other hand --
Jack: Publishing any part of this story will harm an innocent child and further infuriate locke. Look, this isn't just a juicy story. This is about a family and a really terrific little boy.
Billy: Well, I understand that, and to that point, maybe there's something chanccomm can do for the abbotts' cause.
Lily: I think jack just explained why we shouldn't go anywhere near this.
Jack: Lily is right. Listen, kyle has a lot on his plate, and there's a lot of uncertainty about what happens next.
Billy: Is locke going for full custody? Is she trying to take him for everything he's got?
Jack: What part of "uncertainty" did you not understand?
Billy: Okay, look, jack, I didn't know, alright?
Jack: Yeah, one more time you didn't know. I'm sure it's gonna happen ag-- you know, if you'll excuse, I'm gonna head home.
Lily: No, jack, please stay.
Jack: No, I hope you two will be very happy in your lovely new home.
Lily: Great, are you happy now?
Ashland: You know, I have to apologize for my bad manners. I've spent the entire evening talking about myself and my tribulations.
Victoria: No, no, no. Apology not accepted.
Ashland: Well, this is a first.
Victoria: I invited you to unburden yourself, so, I mean, if I helped at all, I only want thanks.
Ashland: Still, it's a bit self-centered of me to drone on like that. I'd rather hear from you -- how work is going, what it's like being the daughter of the infamous victor newman. What's your favorite dessert? Or if you could choose, what would be your superpower?
Victoria: Oh, well, I guess I would want to be able to stop time. Yeah. But my kids would probably say that they would want me to be incapable of saying no.
[ Chuckles ]
[ Sighs ] I like talking about them. They're actually my favorite subject.
Ashland: There's no greater love than a parent's for a child.
Victoria: Oh, you got that right. You know, johnny and katie, they're just constantly surprising me and making me so happy. Katie, for example, she just joined the hockey team, which i never expected, ever, but she loves it. And johnny, um, well, he's at the age where everything that comes out of his mouth is just genuinely hysterical. I think I have a little comedian on my hands. You know, as proud as I am of my work and eager to take newman enterprises to new heights, I think that, um, my kids will always come first. I'm sorry. Am I boring you? I'm so sorry. I know it's so irritating when people go on and on about their kids, but I just -- I thought you would enjoy the stories, you know, because you're a father.
Ashland: Yeah. I thought I was.
Victoria: I -- I don't follow.
Ashland: [ Scoffs ] Well...I might as well tell you since no doubt it'll be public knowledge before too long. I adore harrison, and he's brought more joy and love and light into my life than I could ever imagine. But the fact is, I'm not his biological father.
Victoria: Who is?
Ashland: [ Sighs ]
Victoria: Kyle abbott? He's the father?
Summer: Do you like?
Kyle: I like it a lot. Thank you very much. What did I do to deserve this?
Summer: Well, I made a decision about something, and i thought that this was the best way to let you know.
Kyle: Let me know what?
Summer: So do you remember all those reasons I had for pressing pause on our wedding? Because I just want you to completely forget about all of them.
Kyle: You mean --
Summer: I want to marry you, kyle, more than ever. I want to put a fast track on our wedding, and nothing would make me happier than knowing that you feel the exact same way.
Kyle: Was that answer clear enough?
Summer: Mm, I don't know. Better make sure. - Bedtime!! - Bedtime.
Abby: Hey, handsome. I miss you tons. You know, I have been thinking. Sure, we may not be able to make a family the way that we had envisioned it, but it's happening. And, yes, we can't be together right now, but I love you as much today as I did on that afternoon in the park when you proposed. And thinking about all of that helped me give a friend some advice. Don't shy away from love. Yes, it can be difficult. But love gives you the strength to do things that you never imagined that you could. So work hard at it and make it the best that it can be, because you never know when love is coming... or when you could lose it.
[ Sighs ]
Jack: [ Sighs ]
Tara: Jack. I didn't realize you'd come home.
Jack: Yeah, I got -- just got in.
Tara: You seem preoccupied. I'll let you have your privacy.
Jack: No, no, no, stay. Please, have a seat.
Tara: You sure?
Jack: No, I was just in here thinking about my evening and realizing I'd have been better off staying here and having mac 'n' cheese with harrison.
Tara: Kyle told you it's harrison's favorite?
Jack: [ Chuckles ] Mrs. Martinez loved dusting off that recipe. There was a time kyle could not get enough of that stuff.
Tara: Oh, must be in the genes.
Jack: Yeah. Family's a powerful thing. Why is it family can get under your skin like no one else can?
Tara: Oh, whoever figures that out needs a nobel.
Jack: Sounds like there's a story there. You never talk about your family. Are you close?
Tara: Oh. I have a brother in virginia somewhere.
[ Chuckles ] We're estranged.
Jack: I'm sorry to hear that.
Tara: It's why I'm so grateful for your incredible hospitality and generosity.
Jack: You and harrison are the ideal guests. We love having you here, and I -- I will confess I love hearing the sound of little boys' feet in the hallway when i wake up. It's been a long time coming. This house is finally coming back to life.
Tara: Well, I hope you can stand having us here a little longer.
Billy: When did locke find out about the affair? Who told him? How long has it been going on? Is that the reason why he went after jabot? There's a lot of different ways that we can go about this.
Lily: You mean in the article that we promised not to write?
Billy: Yes, that one.
Lily: Billy, look, I know that it's a riveting story, but jack is right -- we can't go anywhere near this. It could hurt kyle, it could hurt the boy, summer too.
Billy: News like this is not gonna stay quiet for long, lily. You know that.
Lily: It does not mean that we have to be the ones to break it. No one needs us throwing gas on the fire by writing an exposé, so we're dropping this. Right?
Billy: Right.
Ashland: You know, I've never loved anyone or anything as much as I love harrison. I was there when he took his first steps, cheered him on every step of the way as he toddled towards me. Nothing that I could accomplish will ever mean as much as that moment. How...how could tara do that to me? Trick me into caring for a child that wasn't mine? That I loved with all my heart?
Victoria: I wish I had answers for you.
Ashland: I could have been a better father by being around him more, but our careers and the demands on our time and obligations and travel, they get in the way. But I'm not gonna give up on him.
Victoria: What will you do now?
Ashland: Well, I've -- I've scheduled my own dna test, just to be sure.
Victoria: And are the results gonna change anything for you?
Ashland: Absolutely not. I'm not gonna walk away from harrison. I'm sure there's people that would say that I should and let the biological parents raise the boy, but they would be dead wrong. I've invested way too much time and love and energy into being a father to that child. But to be honest, the idea of sharing joint custody with the man who my wife cheated with, it's almost unbearable.
Victoria: You are that child's father in all ways that matter.
Ashland: Yes, but dna --
Victoria: I don't share dna with my son. He's billy's biological child, but I'm his mother, and nothing's ever gonna change that. I'm the one who's always been there for him when he needs me, just like harrison needs you.
