Devon: I did. It's with the new group I'm looking to sign to winter's mood.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] I wish I could join you, but imani's coming over to work on the case, and [Sighs] I-I miss seeing billy and lily at work, but I'm thrilled that things are going so well for them. I just...

Devon: It's okay, it's okay. I understand. It's just they've -- they've been together for a while now, and things are getting pretty serious between them, so I need to start being supportive.

Amanda: Well, she's lucky to have such a caring brother.

Billy: Hi. How are you? Good to see you. It's always good to see you.

Nikki: Thank you. Are you starting a new career as a carpenter?

Billy: Yeah, right. No, it's moving day. Moving out of the grand phoenix.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: That'll be great for the kids. Although it means no more elevator rides to the roof or room service dessert carts.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ] Surprised victoria hasn't mentioned this move.

Billy: That's probably because she -- she doesn't know yet.

Kyle: Harrison and I had dna samples taken for a paternity test. These are the results.

Jack: He's telling the truth.

Ashland: I know kyle is not the father. Tara told me when this affair took place.

Kyle: She lied.

Tara: Ash, I'm so sorry. I didn't want you to find out like this, and I --

Ashland: You're the one who came up with this ploy?

Kyle: I guarantee you, ashland, it's no ploy.

Billy: Uh, well, I tried, but she was busy, and now she's out of town.

Nikki: Well, you could've called her. I'm fairly certain that her phone is operational around the globe.

Nikki: So, two cups, huh? Might one of them be for your new roommate?

Billy: Yes. Lily and I are moving in together, and victoria doesn't know yet. But I think she's gonna be fine with it. I know she really respects lily and she likes her, and, uh, i believe that she's happy for us.

Kyle: There are the results. If you don't believe me, ashland, see for yourself. Follow up with the lab if you doubt they're legit.

Tara: Ash, I'm so sorry.

Ashland: I don'T...want to hear another word from you.

Summer: So it's true? You're -- you're harrison's dad?

Kyle: Yeah. You alright? You should sit. I can get you a glass of water or something stronger, if you like.

Tara: No. Thank you, I'm fine.

Kyle: Well, what do we do now that ashland knows?

Tara: Talk to harrison. Tell him a little bit about what's going on now that ashland knows the truth.

Jack: Maybe we should take our time on that.

Tara: Remember who we're dealing with. Ashland is hurt and angry. He'll lash out. If that means badmouthing me to our son or framing you as the villain, he won't hesitate. I need to talk to harrison first and explain things in a way he'll understand.

Kyle: Do you want me to be with you when you tell him?

Tara: I think you should. And if you're ready, we can do it now.

Summer: Right this minute? I'm sorry, but you just found out the results from that test and you haven't even had a conversation about what this is gonna look like or what your involvement in harrison's life is gonna be yet.

Kyle: We should talk about all that first.

Tara: Okay. I'm willing to have that conversation, but I don't want to wait. My son needs to know the truth.

Jack: Summer, maybe we need to give them a little space to discuss this and talk to harrison.

Tara: That's very considerate. I appreciate it.

Kyle: Be right back. Wait. I'm sorry. I know this is all happening so fast.

Summer: Look, you are the only one that I care about, so please do not let tara rush you into something that you aren't ready for.

Kyle: My feelings are not the priority. I have to think about what's best for my son.

Summer: Right. No, that little boy needs to come first.

Kyle: Yeah, how do you explain to a kid harrison's age that his world is about to change in ways he never would have expected... when I'm having a hard time explaining it to myself?

Tara: There are no magic words that we find for that one moment. I mean, I'm sure we'll have lots of discussions with him about it. I mean, I know we just need to find the words and make them simple enough for him to grasp.

Kyle: We need to be clear about what's gonna happen. What kind of role do you want me to play in harrison's life?

Tara: [ Sighs ] I don't have a definitive answer yet. I know that I want you to be a part of harrison's life and that he can feel safe with you and depend on you. Not that I want or expect you to be immediately in his father's place.

Kyle: Well, what about ashland?

Tara: My hope is that he wants to continue the role he's been playing, if he's willing.

Kyle: Does this mean you'll go back to new york?

Tara: If the custody agreement allows it, I'd kind of like to stay here so that you and harrison have an opportunity to bond and get to know each other, become part of each other's lives.

Kyle: Wow, that sounds, um...

Tara: Like a lot. I know. It's a big step. And I don't want you to feel rushed or pressured, but at the same time, I want you to know that if you want to be a part of harrison's life and you're in it, you have to be all in. You can't just try it out for a while and then walk away. You just can't do that to a child.

Kyle: I wouldn't dream of it. I want to be a real father to my son.

Ashland: I'm gonna arrange for my own paternity test to make sure this isn't a hoax. I mean, she's lied to me too many times to -- to be considered trustworthy. I just need to find out what my rights are in the event that...well, she's telling the truth, that I'M...not... harrison's biological father. Yeah. I'll talk to you soon. Bye. What do you want?

Jack: I thought we should talk. I know the news has been terribly shocking for you.

Ashland: [ Scoffs ] Are you here to apologize for your son?

Jack: No, I don't excuse what kyle did. His behavior years ago was selfish and reckless.

Ashland: Sounds like a real chip off the old block.

Jack: And I don't disagree that I have more than my share of faults. I also have plenty of regrets. And I think the best way for us all to avoid regrets down the road is for us to put our own feelings aside and do what is best for the boy.

Ashland: You know, I really don't need you to tell me how to take care of my son.

Jack: Tara has told us how much you love that little boy. She's worried that you might let your anger override that.

Ashland: I have every right to be angry at tara.

Jack: No one is saying otherwise. But don't let harrison suffer because of it. Look, tearing him away from his mother is cruel. No child ever fully recovers from that.

Ashland: As I said --

Jack: I know this from experience. My mother left our family -- broke our hearts, broke our trust. My sisters and I survived. We had pretty exceptional lives, but we were never the same again. I hope you won't let that happen to harrison.

Billy: Hey. Oh.

Lily: Hey.

Billy: You started without me.

Lily: Well, yeah, we have to do this now. Otherwise, we're gonna be living out of boxes for the next several months.

Billy: Okay, fine. What do you want me to do?

Lily: Thank you. Grab a box. Help yourself.

Billy: Alright.

[ Clears throat ] Fantastic. Here we go.

Lily: Look at that.

Billy: Coffee maker.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Billy: Make our own tomorrow morning.

Lily: Yes.

Billy: Any other treasures in here?

Lily: Now, look, I know that it looks chaotic 'cause of all the boxes and bubble wrap, but inside the cabinets, it's perfect harmony, okay? There's plates next to mugs, and spoons next to knives.

Billy: Alright. I am a little disappointed you didn't wait for me. I mean, this means I have to trust you that you put everything where it needs to be. Now, I don't want to spend the next 10 years living with you not knowing were the spatula is.

Lily: Oh, please. I think you'll be able to figure it out. And besides, we don't have much time before we have to go back to the office.

Billy: Okay, put me to work. What do you want me to do?

Lily: Um, actually, here. Can you figure out how to set up the printer?

Billy: Instructions? Don't you just plug it in? Can't I be doing something better with my time?

Lily: Um, no. Electronics first.

Billy: Hmm.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Billy: Wow. Re-- I'm trying to focus here.

Lily: What? Keep reading.

Billy: You want me to do this, I need to focus.

Lily: Yes, it's fine. Don't worry about it.

Billy: Are you serious? Okay.

Lily: [ Laughs ] Okay, I'm sorry! I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry!

Billy: No, you're not!

Lily: Yes, I am!

Amanda: Grab yourself a coffee, and we'll get started.

Imani: Why waste time? Let's dive in.

Amanda: Okay. Well, before we do anything else, we need to rework our defense strategy based on the new information I've learned.

Imani: So you're just gonna toss the argument we've been working on?

Amanda: We have no choice. Now that we know that richard was focused on finding his baby when he was killed.

Imani: According to your unnamed source.

Amanda: Well, I plan to confirm his version of events very soon.

Imani: How?

Amanda: I managed to track down the name and the number for the P.I. Richard was working with. She lives right outside of genoa city. If she can attest to the fact that richard was completely obsessed with finding his baby, that calls into question the D.A.'S entire theory of the case.

Imani: You're getting ahead of yourself.

Amanda: No, not at all. They will say that richard called sutton to talk about the bribery scheme that he uncovered, to threaten to expose him. Well, we will show that there was a completely different reason for him contacting him. He needed help finding his baby, sutton's grandchild.

Imani: You haven't even talked to sutton about any of this.

Amanda: Well, not for lack of trying. Wait. How do you know that I haven't spoken with our grandfather about this?

Imani: Because I did, and he told me to let you know that he is not on board with this new strategy. Your heart is at the heart of everything you do.

Amanda: Sutton put me in charge of this case. Now he's conferring with you behind my back?

Imani: It's not like that. Here's what happened -- i stopped by my grandfather's house just to bring him up to speed.

Amanda: Well, I'm sure you put your own spin on it, said that we should keep naya out of it.

Imani: He didn't need my input for that decision. He would never expose his daughter's painful history to protect himself. That's not who he is.

Amanda: Well, what if she did it anyway?

Imani: You mean what if you pressured her to testify? You'd jeopardize your new relationship just as it's getting started.

Amanda: It's not appropriate it for me to bring my connection with naya into this. I'm speaking as sutton's attorney. It is my job to come up with the strongest defense possible.

Imani: But since your client believes in the strategy that you've already come up with, we should stay with it. We shift responsibility of richard's death onto someone at newman.

Amanda: Richard left newman voluntarily to focus on his search. How do we sell the idea that someone at his old job felt threatened enough to want him dead?

Imani: It was your idea that richard was blackmailing someone at newman. You figure it out.

Billy: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Billy: Our first guest.

Devon: How's it going, man?

Billy: It's going. To be honest right now, I wish we would have splurged and had someone else do the unpacking.

Lily: Oh, stop, you've been having fun. Plus, I've been doing all the work anyway, so...

Devon: Oh, yeah?

Billy: Sure.

Lily: Yeah.

[ Laughter ]

Billy: What do we got?

Devon: We got some lunch for you guys.

Lily: Oh, perfect. Perfect timing. It's break time.

Devon: Nice.

Billy: Make some room here.

Devon: Thank you very much. Oh, man.

Lily: So I was wondering, do you have to rush off after lunch?

Devon: Why are you asking? You want me to stick around and help unpack?

Billy: Careful, she's good that way.

Devon: Yeah.

Lily: Well, I mean, it'll be fun.

Devon: Thank you. I have enough fun with my own work. I don't need more.

Lily: Okay, fine, then stay 'cause you want to help me.

Devon: How about before i volunteer, you open this, huh?

Lily: A present?

Devon: A present. It's a house-warming gift. Happy house-warming.

Lily: Thank you. Hmm. It's too small to be the juicer that we need.

Billy: Well, that was subtle.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

[ Gasps ] Oh, my gosh.

Devon: Like it?

Lily: Indigo! I love it.

Billy: That's great. Another house-warming gift.

Devon: Oh, who beat me to it?

Billy: Oh, jack. And he also gave us a little memento in honor of neil.

Lily: Yeah. It's amazing how many lives he's touched and how many people still love him.

Devon: I know.

Lily: Thank you.

Devon: You're welcome.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: You're very, very welcome. Speaking of jack, I ran into him when I was picking up lunch at society.

Lily: Oh, what's he up to?

Devon: He was having a conversation with ashland locke, and it looked pretty intense.

Billy: You don't say.

Tara: We have been so busy lately, haven't we? And I bet you're a little confused about everything that's going on and why we haven't been home in so long. Your father and I have talked, and we realized that we are not very happy living in the same house. So he is going to stay in new york, and we are going to stay here. At least for a little while. But your father will come and visit. And no matter where we are, i want you to know that I will make sure you have everything you need, okay? And there's one more thing you should know. You know how we've talked about how there's all different types of families? Well, you are very lucky because we are getting a brand-new person in our family. I've never told you this before, but you have another dad, and that's kyle. And he is gonna spend some time with you because he is so excited to get to know you better. How does that sound?

Harrison: Two dads? Allergens are little terrors all around us.

Kyle: Hey, harrison. I'm sure this is all a big surprise for you. I was surprised, too. But I think we can have a lot of fun together. Your mom told me we like a lot of the same things. Like baseball. And swimming. Superhero stuff.

Tara: How do you feel about mac 'n' cheese?

Kyle: Pbht. Are you kidding? I love the stuff. When I was little, I ate it for dinner every night for a week.

Tara: A whole week?

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Tara: I think we should come up with a special name, yeah? Because it is very important to be somebody's dad. Not "father" because you already have one of those. How about "daddy"?

Harrison: Daddy!

Tara: Does that work for you?

Kyle: Yeah, it works for me.

[ Chuckles ]

Imani: The fact is, we won't know for certain that richard was searching for his child until we get confirmation from the investigator.

Amanda: Correct. But I am sure that my source at newman was telling the truth.

Imani: Okay, for argument's sake, let's say you're right. That still doesn't mean what richard was doing was common knowledge. If someone was involved in the bribery scheme at newman, they might have thought that he was about to expose them. Especially if word got out that he was working with a private eye.

Amanda: So you think someone got the wrong idea and panicked?

Imani: It's possible. Consider this -- richard still had a lot of debt and no money coming in. What if he was taking money from someone under the table to finance his search for his child? It doesn't have to be one or the otheR. He could have been doing both.

Amanda: I looked at his bank statements during the time. There were no unusual deposits, and he had enough money to pay the P.I.

Imani: If he was involved in a blackmailing scheme, wouldn't he have hidden the money elsewhere?

Amanda: Well, we'll know more once the investigator gets back to us.

Imani: [ Sighs ] Are you going to tell her that you are the child he was looking for?

Amanda: Absolutely not. Why would you think that?

Imani: I thought you might, because you want naya to come forward with her story.

Amanda: Only to clear sutton's name. I meant what I said. Until this case is closed, I am gonna keep quiet about my connection to this family.

Imani: [ Sighs ] You know what? You want to take a break? We could grab some lunch.

Amanda: Um, yeah, that would be nice.

Imani: Under one condition. We can't talk about work or family.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Well, now I love the sound of that.

Billy: Well, devon, thank you. That was delicious.

Devon: You're very welcome.

Lily: You know, this will be the first house that I've lived in where dad won't be able to pop in and out for visits, so it'll be nice to have something near and dear to his heart in our home. Thank you.

Billy: Yeah, it's beautiful. I know exactly where it's gonna go.

Devon: Yeah?

Billy: Thanks, man.

Devon: You got it.

Billy: See you.

Devon: See ya, man. Congrats again on the place.

Billy: Thank you.

Lily: So...what do you think?

Devon: I think the place is perfect. I love it.

Lily: You know what I mean.

Devon: I am very, very happy for the two of you. I think that you guys are in a really good place, literally and figuratively. So, if you'd have asked me before if, you know, if i thought you guys would end up together...

[ Both laugh ]

Lily: Well, I mean, jill knew that we would make sense, you know? We're in similar places where we've had to rebuild and we respect each other for what we've had to do, so...

Devon: Yeah, I can see that. I'm very happy.

Lily: Thank you.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Lily: So, where is amanda? I thought she'd be with you.

Devon: She had work to do on the case, but she sends her best, and to answer the question that I know you're really dying to ask me...

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Devon: ...Things are exceptional between us.

Lily: Oh, good. I love hearing that.

Amanda: So, favorite vacation spot?

Imani: Oh, that's easy. Paris.

Amanda: Top of my bucket list, especially since i studied french in college.

Imani: Me, too!

Amanda: What?!

Imani: Yeah. Okay, so, colette -- great author, or the greatest author?

Amanda: Oh, my god, I love the claudine novels, and now i have someone that I can talk to about them.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

[ Laughs ] Oh, that's so funny.

Nate: Amanda.

Amanda: Nate, hi.

Amanda: Nate, this is my friend imani.

Nate: Imani -- beautiful name.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Amanda: Oh, this is the call that we've been waiting for. If you'll excuse me. Amanda sinclair.

Imani: Tell me, how do you know amanda?

Nate: She represented me once soon after she got to town.

Imani: So, you two never dated?

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Speak your mind.

Imani: Sometimes it gets me in trouble, but mostly it gets me what I want.

Nate: We dated, briefly.

Imani: Huh. What happened?

Nate: It just didn't work out.

Imani: Imagine that.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Why haven't I ever met you before?

Imani: I'm visiting from out of town, but I expect that I'll be coming to genoa city pretty often, because I like what I've seen so far.

Amanda: Well, I am sorry to interrupt, but we need to get back to work.

Nate: It was nice meeting you, imani.

Imani: The pleasure was mine.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] Okay, well, the P.I. Can meet with us, but it has to be right now because we caught her as she was about to head out of town, but she has a few minutes to talk, so we should...

Nikki: Amanda! I hope I'm not interrupting. Nikki newman. We met at phyllis' party at the grand phoenix a few months ago.

Amanda: Yes, yes, of course. Nikki, meet my colleague, imani benedict.

Nikki: Oh, very nice to meet you.

Imani: Hi.

Nikki: Are you working on the ames case, as well?

Imani: Actually, we are --

Amanda: We have a meeting. So I'm sorry, you'll have to excuse us.

Nikki: Of course.

Imani: It was nice meeting you, mrs. Newman.

Nikki: Good to meet you.

Amanda: You have a good day, nikki.

Nikki: Bye-bye.

Lily: Well, I think we made a lot of progress. What do you think? What's wrong?

Billy: Nothing, just thinking.

Lily: About your run-in with nikki?

Billy: No, I'm really not worried about victoria having any problem with us shacking up. She knows the direction we were going.

Lily: Okay, then what?

Billy: This jack and ashland locke -- there's something going on there.

Lily: Well, yeah, I mean, ashland shut down manufacturing at jabot, so maybe they were discussing that.

Billy: No, I don't think it's that simple. I think it has to do with ashland's wife, tara.

Lily: Why?

Billy: They have mansions in six out of seven continents. Why would she come back to genoa city in the middle of her marriage blowing up? I mean, it's not for the view. There's something or someone in this town that is involved in that divorce.

Lily: Okay, yes, which we will explore in a full-length article. But you promised no more talking about work, remember?

Billy: I remember. But you mark my words, you luminous goddess, there's more to this story than we know.

Tara: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Things are a bit quieter here since the last time I was here.

Tara: Harrison's out back with the nanny. I just -- I needed some time to decompress.

Jack: I hope that doesn't mean things went badly when you told him the news.

Tara: No, no, it went as well as we hoped. It's just I don't think he can grasp the enormity of it. I mean, how could he?

Jack: I'm sure, right now, it's just words.

Tara: I don't think it'll become real to harrison until kyle becomes a part of his everyday life.

Jack: I'm glad you want him to be that involved.

Tara: I mean, harrison is gonna need the stability. I'm not sure that I can rely on ashland.

Jack: I had a little talk with ashland. He wasn't thrilled about getting any advice from me, but maybe some of what I said got through to him.

Tara: Thank you for making the effort, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I saw the way he looked at me when he walked out. I know what it meant. He wants to punish me, and he knows the most effective way to do that is to take away what i love most -- my son.

Jack: Tara, listen to me. We're not gonna let that happen.

Summer: Hey. Um, I was just going somewhere.

Kyle: Anywhere in particular?

Summer: No, I'm not... I'm not really sure. I just... I don't know, I just couldn't sit around any longer, waiting for what happens next now that ashland knows the truth, kyle.

Kyle: I know this is overwhelming for you, too. I'm glad you suggested that tara and I slow down and talk about where things are headed.

Summer: Okay, so what are tara's expectations?

Kyle: Full commitment. If I want to be in harrison's life, I have to be all-in.

Summer: And you told her that you would be?

Kyle: It's what I need to do. You understand, don't you?

Summer: Yeah. Yeah, of course, it'S... oh, my god, it's just really complicated. I can't imagine what harrison's feeling right now. How did he react when you told him?

Kyle: It was easier than i expected. No tantrums, no tears. He just looked up at me with those big eyes. God, it's got to be as surreal for him as it is for me.

Summer: For all of us. Hey.

Kyle: You know I couldn't get through this without you, right?

Summer: It's a good thing you don't have to. When our daughter and her kids moved in with us...

Billy: Hey, look!

Lily: [ Gasps ] Wow, you did it!

Billy: I did. Check this out.

[ Pops lips ]

Lily: Oh, nice.

Billy: Pretty good, huh?

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: I'm good with my hands.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Oh, is that so?

Billy: Yeah, step right up. I'll make you a believer.

Lily: Oh, you know, I never back down from a challenge.

Billy: Whoa.

Lily: What is it?

Billy: "Guess which media millionaire changed his divorce filing from 'no fault' to 'fault' today? The grounds? Adultery."

Lily: Wow, I guess there is more to the locke story.

Kyle: Harrison called me "daddy."

Summer: Already? Wow.

Kyle: Tara told him I was gonna be his second father and that's what he should call me, so...yeah.

Summer: Okay, um... how'd it feel?

Kyle: Amazing, and scary as hell. I almost looked over my shoulder because I didn't know who he was talking to. I don't know how to be that -- be a father. I won't have any time to learn. I just --

Summer: Hey, hey. I have worried about a lot of things, but never that, because I know that you're gonna be a really great dad. Okay? I have total faith in you.

Kyle: I don't know where I'd be without your support. I hope you know how much it means to me.

Summer: Just promise me one thing, okay?

Kyle: Hmm?

Summer: Nothing's gonna change for us.

Kyle: I swear to you we will be okay. We will always be okay.

Summer: Okay.

Jack: This was kyle's when he was a little boy. You want to try it on? Here. Want me to hold your friend? Gotcha. No, go through this way. Right through -- there, you got it. That's it. And I was thinking maybe, after your break, we could go out back and toss the ball. What do you think? By the way, I heard the news, that kyle is your second dad. That makes me very happy. You know why? Because that means I get to be your grandpa. Your mother tells me you don't have one of those. Guess what? I've never had a grandson either. So that makes you very special in my life.

Nate: Make sure moses gets these?

Devon: What's it, schoolwork?

Nate: Some case studies i thought he'd be interested in.

Devon: Oh, cool, cool. He'll love this.

Nate: Yeah. I ran into amanda at society.

Devon: Yeah?

Nate: She was with her friend imani.

Devon: Yeah, I've met her.

Nate: So, what, they're colleagues?

Devon: I think they're just working on a case together.

Nate: Ah, so what else you know about her?

Devon: I don't know much. Just according to amanda, she's a handful, I think were her words. So...that's all I know. Hey, I never got a chance to thank you again for all your help with neil's tribute. I really appreciate it.

Nate: Thank you for involving me.

Devon: Yeah, of course, of course. Moses said that every person he met and story that he heard and place that he visited was like a gift.

Nate: It's got to be tough on him, you know? Being so young without his father around. I know what that's like.

Devon: Just want to do whatever I can to make sure he still feels like neil's watching over him.

Denise: Vividly.

Imani: It's strange that you would recall the details of a case so long after it's been closed.

Denise: You don't forget a story like this.

Amanda: My colleague and i are trying to learn as much as we can about the last few weeks of richard's life. Can you please tell us why he hired you?

Denise: He was trying to locate a baby his ex-girlfriend put up for adoption. He believed it was his child.

Imani: And that was the only issue?

Denise: Isn't that enough?

Imani: So no problems at newman enterprises?

Denise: No. Richard had quit his job at newman so he could focus on finding his baby, and he put a lot of pressure on me to work faster.

Amanda: Did he say why?

Denise: The thought of his child out there, abandoned and alone -- ugh! -- Was just eating him alive.

Amanda: He must've called you after he hit a dead end, searching on his own.

Denise: He said he didn't have much to go on, just the mother's name and address. I had a rough idea of the baby's due date, based on when richard said the relationship ended, and that was about it.

Amanda: Did you ever contact the girlfriend?

Denise: I tried, but no one in the family was willing to talk to me. Turns out it didn't matter in the whole scheme of things.

Amanda: Yes, because richard died.

Denise: No, because I had other ways of finding out what i was looking for. I'm good at my job.

Amanda: Wait. What are you saying? You made progress in your search?

Denise: I found that little baby girl he was looking for. Even gave him the foster family's address. Unfortunately, that was right before he died.
