Episode #12109 ~ An unexpected guest crashes Summer and Kyle's engagement party. Chloe gives Adam a reality check. Phyllis keeps a secret from Nick.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] Oh, no.

Kyle: I'll handle this.

Nick: You want me to tell her it's a private party?

Kyle: I will. Everyone, have another glass of champagne. Help yourselves.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, who wants some more bubbly?

Phyllis: I want a lot.

Nick: Yeah, I'll take some.

Jack: There you go. Nick.

Kyle: This is a surprise.

Tara: I apologize for just showing up like this.

Kyle: Yeah, what are you doing here, and with your son?

Tara: I had nowhere else to go. I realize I walked in on a family celebration, but I need to speak to you, kyle. Privately. It's important.

Kyle: This really is a bad time. How did you even know where to find me?

Tara: That woman, sally spectra. She told me that summer and you were having a party here.

Kyle: Yeah, our engagement party. And yet you came anyway.

Tara: Harrison, come here. Can you say hi to kyle?

Harrison: Hi.

Jack: Oh, I don't know who's more excited -- ashley or traci.

[ Chuckles ] Really looking forward to it.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Adam: It's open.

Chloe: Is it true? Did you have chelsea locked up in a psychiatric hospital?!

Adam: I had nothing to do with it.

Chloe: Yeah, right. Try that again.

Adam: Chelsea had a breakdown. She confessed to poisoning rey. Okay, she needs help, chloe. A mental facility is probably the best place for her.

Chloe: How could you do this to the mother of your child?

Adam: I wasn't even there when it happened. I was in the hospital.

Chloe: Yeah, you were donating your kidney to sharon's daughter -- I heard. You know, the fact that you are being treated like some kind of hero for the one good thing you did makes me sick. Because you and I both know that you are no hero. I mean, this was all designed to rehabilitate your image, to distract from the damage that you've caused, that you've continued to cause. And now chelsea is the one who's locked up, and you're just walking around free -- again.

Adam: Well, not for lack of trying on your part. Did you bring your weapons, or was this just purely a social call?

Chloe: There's gotta be a way to stop you. But how? What is it going to take?

Sharon: I'm listening. You can tell me anything.

Rey: You've been through so much. And I've only made things worse by threatening the stability of our marriage.

Sharon: You had your reasons.

Rey: Still. I hate that I made you feel this way -- worried and upset.

[ Sighs ] More upset. Look, I know that you just brought faith home and, of course, you want to be with her, but I couldn't put this off any longer. Not after the last few weeks. Everything we've been through. You leaving me standing there.

Sharon: Okay, the answer is no. I did not sleep with adam. And I don't care what chelsea claims, there was nothing going on between us. I was just really shocked and hurt when you --

Rey: I know, I know. You said it made you afraid that we were really over, that I even had to ask the question. Since you left me standing there, it's all I've been thinking about. You're my wife. I never love you more than I've ever loved anyone. That's why I really need you to hear me out on this. Can you be free of hair breakage worries?

Rey: First of all, I regret that I ever believed what chelsea said about you and adam, that you were having a secret affair, and that it pushed her to the breaking point. I believe that chelsea's stroke and paralysis really messed with her mind. Not being able to move or talk like that would be enough to make anybody paranoid, right?

Sharon: Locked-in syndrome can have serious long-term effects on a patient's psyche.

Rey: Yeah, that's what i think caused chelsea to misinterpret what she saw and heard. She was conjuring up images of adam cheating on her, when actually he was just doing his best to stand by her. The psychiatrist that victor called in -- dr. Hedges -- said that the stroke could've actually impaired chelsea's ability to process information. Maybe even caused a psychotic break.

Sharon: Well, he's right. I think I even mentioned that theory to you once before.

Rey: Yeah. And I should have listened and trusted you instead of letting my suspicions cloud my judgments. I let my resentment and jealousy take over. Made you wonder if we ever had a chance to make things right. I accused you of being obsessed with adam. But it was me -- I'm the one who became obsessed. I let him get inside my head, like he did with chelsea. Except I didn't have an excuse.

Sharon: Rey, what are you saying?

Rey: That I'm sorry... for my part in the problems we've been having. I made a mistake. I was wrong. I want to know if you can ever forgive me.

Abby: What's going on? What is ashland locke's wife doing here?

Mariah: Good question.

Summer: Well, so much for this being a private party.

Harrison: [ Babbling ]

Kyle: Is ashland in town with you?

Tara: Things have happened. Things you and I feared. Please, kyle, I just need 10 minutes of your time. That's all. We're staying at the grand phoenix. I'm counting on you.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I'll meet you at the hotel.

Tara: [ Sighs ] Thank you. I really am sorry, kyle. I swear I wouldn't come to genoa city if I didn't have to. Please come as soon as you can.

Mariah: Was that --

Kyle: Tara locke and her little boy.

Mariah: Harrison. Are you okay?

Kyle: It's my engagement party. I'm over the moon. Sorry for the interruption.

Jack: Hey, what's going on over there? Does this have anything to do with locke?

Kyle: No, everything's cool. Hey, this is a celebration. I don't want tara stopping by to interfere with the festivities.

Summer: Excuse me, I need to talk to my fiancé, so just give us a sec, okay?

Nick: You have any idea what's going on? Who was that woman?

Phyllis: Um, I believe that's tara locke. That's ashland locke's wife.

Nick: Why is she here?

Phyllis: Um...uh, I don't know. Maybe something to do with jabot or something, you know. I hear that jack and kyle have their hands full with ashland, so...

Nick: That doesn't make any sense. Why would he send his wife, and what I assume is his kid, to some private party in genoa city?

Phyllis: I don't know. Just speculation on my part. I-I don't have any -- any idea. You want some more champagne?

Nick: No.

Summer: Kyle, answer me. Please, what was that about? Why did tara show up to our engagement party with your son? Three derm-ingredients in one cream?

Kyle: I have no idea why tara's in town. All she said is that she needs to speak with me and she had no place else to turn.

Summer: Whatever that means. Okay, what did you say to her?

Kyle: I told her to go back to the grand phoenix and wait for me. She looked unnerved. And why would she have harrison with her?

Summer: Alright, we should go now.

Kyle: Wait, no, no. Let me handle this. It'll look pretty suspicious if both of us leave our engagement party to go deal with the wife of the guy who just sabotaged jabot.

Summer: Okay, well, she's here to warn you about ashland. He could be planning a second attack. We don't know.

Kyle: Babe, babe, babe, tonight is about us. Sharing our wedding plans with all the people we love. We're not letting ashland or tara ruin that, so whatever it is, it'll just have to wait.

Adam: Look, you don't need to threaten me or beat me up. Alright, I've been doing enough of that for both of us.

Chloe: Oh, I'm sorry, do -- do you want a medal? Really? I mean, do you think they just hand those out for gaining a conscience?

Adam: Whether or not you believe me, I am heartsick about what happened with chelsea. If I could go back and I could undo the damage that I've caused...

Chloe: Where would you start? Locking her up, drugging her, making her fear for her life? Or the night one of your schemes backfired, and she got stuck in that elevator, fell, hit her head, and injured herself badly enough to have an aneurysm and caused her stroke? Or what about when she was stuck in the wheelchair? Unable to do anything but blink and you chased after sharon? The way that you have treated chelsea is sickening. And you can't undo it, adam. You can't undo any of it.

Adam: And I'm not even gonna try to defend myself. Or stop you from scorning me because I deserve it. Every bit of it.

Chloe: Well, that may be the one true thing you've said.

Adam: Okay, I've made so many bad choices. And the truth is that I told myself that I was finally making things right. At least that's what I told myself anyway. But I found out that I was actually hurting chelsea even more than she's already been hurt.

Chloe: So now you're taking responsibility? Claiming to be "heartsick" over what happened after you literally drove that woman into an insane asylum!?

Adam: Chloe, chloe --

Chloe: And even if you are sincerely regretting your actions -- which I highly doubt is true -- it's too little, too late.

Adam: Well, I guess you're just gonna have to trust me.

Chloe: Like chelsea did?

Michael: Good to meet you, counselor. Mister... ah, montgomery, was it?

Montgomery: Mm.

Michael: Ah. I'm a little surprised that we've never met in the courtroom.

Montgomery: I'm new to the area.

Michael: Ah, well, welcome to our little corner of the midwest. Hello, chelsea. How are you doing today?

Chelsea: How do you think?

Michael: Little more subdued than the last time I saw you. Do you remember the conversation we had at the ranch? You told me a lot of things that day, and it's important that i get a formal statement from you. Just, you know, making sure that we have all the details correct, hmm?

Montgomery: Perhaps we should wait until she's a little more settled in.

Michael: I appreciate your suggestion, but the sooner things get underway for chelsea's case, the better. Right, chelsea?

Chelsea: It won't matter what I tell you.

Michael: Why do you say that?

Chelsea: You know why. Adam.

Michael: What about adam?

Kyle: Did you save me some of those crab appetizers I saw earlier?

Abby: Yeah, there's a whole platter left.

Kyle: Awesome.

Mariah: Is that gonna be enough?

Kyle: We'll find out.

Phyllis: Well, abby, this is amazing. You outdid yourself, and, coming from me, that's quite a compliment.

Abby: Thanks, phyllis. But, kyle, I actually have a question for you.

Kyle: What?

Abby: Tara locke showing up here looking for you. Is everything okay?

Nick: I was just about to ask the same thing.

Kyle: I don't want to alarm anybody, but...

Summer: But we have to put things on pause for a minute while we go handle a personal matter, but we'll be gone half an hour, tops. Right, babe?

Kyle: Sounds reasonable. Keep the champagne chilled.

Nick: So much for a simple explanation.

Phyllis: Oh, um, nick, I --

Nick: I'm gonna need someone to explain to me what is going on between kyle and ashland locke's wife?

Phyllis: Uh-huh. Well, I guess that someone is me. Right? Um... listen, I think it's just business. I think that's the only thing going on.

Nick: Mm. Why would summer go off with kyle? They don't work together.

Phyllis: Well, she's being supportive.

Nick: Summer said it was personal.

Phyllis: Okay, um...well, you know, ashland locke, he is a game player, you know? And he's very ruthless and he gets personal, and I think he -- he's just testing everyone. That's what I think it is.

Nick: Mm. Well, you have an answer for everything, don't you?

Phyllis: Listen, summer's savvy -- and kyle, he is, as well. I think we just have to take a step back and let them figure it out.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: Hey, this thing with tara, do you think it's about jabot or it's just ashland trying to play more games?

Jack: Well, I hope not, but if it is, I trust that kyle can handle it. Listen, everyone, I am sorry the guests of honor had to dash out, but there's no reason we can't continue to enjoy ourselves until they get back.

Phyllis: Yes, yes! I concur. Who wants more booze? I do.

Jack: Count me in. Here you go.

Phyllis: Alright, well, you're gonna have to meet me down here.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Rey: Have I screwed up things forever? Are we past the point of no return?

Sharon: No. I'm just really overwhelmed right now. I was afraid that you and i would never be able to find our way back to each other. When you took chelsea's word for it, that adam and I were sleeping together, I honestly thought that was the last straw. That there was no hope for us.

Rey: I hate that I even thought it was true for just even a second.

Sharon: Thank you.

Rey: And I hate that I let adam get to me like that. It's my own stupid insecurities because of mia. And you're -- you're not mia.

Sharon: No, I am definitely not like your ex-wife, because from everything you've told me, she took what you two had in your marriage for granted. And she didn't realize what a gem she had in you. But I do. You are the kindest and the most understanding man I've ever met, but you're also human. And you were a victim in this, too. Chelsea poisoned your body. Adam poisoned your mind. And now, here you are, asking for my forgiveness. Well, I would like to ask for your forgiveness, also. For not enforcing the boundaries that I had set with adam. Giving you mixed signals. Letting things get to a place where you rightfully questioned my commitment to you. And us. And for not letting you know how much I love you and I need you. Let's go home.

Rey: Yeah.

Mariah: Well, look at it this way -- you get to revel in things now that you won't be able to do once chance is home.

Jack: Oh, yeah, absolute control of the thermostat.

Mariah: You get to decide which side of the bed you want to sleep on.

Jack: Which side -- you can take over the whole mattress.

Mariah: You can have crackers, abby. You could have crackers in bed.

[ Laughter ]

Jack: It's good to see you laugh.

Abby: Look, I appreciate what you're trying to do. You're trying to cheer me up, but really, I am fine. I am. Chance calls me whenever he can, whenever it's safe, and he even sent me some presents.

Mariah: He did. Good ones, too. Well, except for that candle.

Abby: Ooh, yeah, sorry about that.

Mariah: I survived. And it sounds like you will, too.

Abby: My husband misses me as much as I miss him, and I can feel that, even when he is far, far away. And I know that he is gonna get home to me as soon as he can, so he can be a part of this beautiful, incredible journey that we've embarked on together.

Jack: I have no doubt about that.

Mariah: And in the meantime, tessa and I -- and this little bundle here -- we're gonna take good care of you. Smother you with love.

Abby: And I'm gonna be anxiously awaiting kyle and summer's wedding.

Kyle: Where's harrison?

Tara: In the room with his nanny.

Kyle: Okay, so what's important? Why all the urgency?

Tara: I'd prefer that we speak in private.

Kyle: Summer knows everything. We don't keep secrets from each other.

Tara: This is very difficult for me to get into with anyone besides you.

Summer: Hey, it's fine. Just go talk in the room. I'll wait here for you, okay?

Kyle: No, you left the party, you came all this way --

Summer: It's fine, it's fine. Just get it over with. If tara says it needs to be handled privately, let's just respect that, okay? Okay.

Kyle: I won't be long.

Summer: Okay.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Geez. What a pain. I can't believe you and kyle still have to deal with that woman and the fallout from his affair. And on today, of all days.

Michael: Okay, now I am gonna try to record this so I can focus on you and not have to take notes. Is that alright? Alright. Take all the time you need, hmm?

Chelsea: What's the point? No matter what I say, the outcome's the same. He wins and I lose.

Michael: "He," being adam.

Chelsea: Yes!

Michael: The night you were brought here, do you remember what we talked about? I just need you to explain what happened, like you did before.

Chelsea: It won't matter. It won't matter. It won't matter.

Michael: Chelsea, chelsea, you can keep saying that -- it doesn't make it true.

Chelsea: Yes, it does. Adam can pay off whoever he wants, and I'm gonna be trapped in here forever. What, you don't think it'll happen? It's happened before. I was locked away alone with drugs in my water. I was kicking and screaming and crying and banging on the door, and no one came to help me. I need somebody by my side. I don't have anybody. I'm all alone.

Michael: Chelsea, we're both on your side -- your attorney and me. And I think you know I'm a fair man. I will make sure that justice is done, and I will make sure justice is done fairly.

[ Sighs ] But in order for that to happen, you have to tell me everything.

Adam: You're entitled to your feelings, chloe.

Chloe: Gee. Thanks.

Adam: Look, I'm not gonna argue with you about this anymore. Alright, I told you how I feel about what happened. I'm sincere about making changes in my life and about getting chelsea the help she needs so she can get well, she can reclaim her life. And I know, as her friend, you will want to visit, check on her progress. I just want you to know that i don't have a problem with that. I encourage it, actually.

Chloe: Oh, wow, that's just so big of you. You approve of me seeing my best friend. What a guy.

[ Sighs ] Like either of us needs you for anything. You have done all of the harm that you are going to do to us. Do you hear me? If I can do anything to block you from even going anywhere near chelsea, believe me, I'll do it.

Adam: [ Sighs ] That would be a mistake. I brought in ensure max protein, with thirty grams of protein.

Sharon: Thanks again, nikki. She's been so supportive. Just dropping everything to look after faith so I could go and talk to you at the coffee house.

Rey: I know it hasn't been that long, but I've missed this place.

Sharon: Well, it missed you. And so did faith. So did I.

Rey: The thought that I might not be coming back...

Sharon: Well, you did. This is your home. It's where you belong.

Rey: Feels that way.

Sharon: There's no one else I want, rey.

Adam: I purposely overlooked a key aspect of what chelsea did.

Chloe: Whatever that means.

Adam: It's hard to believe she pulled off something like that on her own. Drugging rey, framing me for it. It's a series of tricky, delicate tasks, and everything had to go just right. She most likely had help. And who else would she turn to, chloe, but you? Who else would go to such extreme lengths? Who else hates me enough to go along with the plan and take the risk? Now, I haven't shared my thoughts with michael and rey, but I will not hesitate if i feel the need. Okay, I swear to you that I have changed. I want to be a better human being, and part of that will come from helping chelsea. So don't stand in my way. Are we clear?

Chloe: You claim you want to be a better person.

Adam: With all of my heart.

Chloe: And for connor's sake, I wish that were possible, but we both know that it's not. So for chelsea and for connor and for everyone else involved, I think it's best for you to stay away from her.

Phyllis: This is great champagne. So good. I'm gonna have to talk to abby and get the number of her supplier. I'm gonna do that. I mean, our champagne at the grand phoenix is amazing, but this is just next-level. Don't you think?

Nick: The fact that you aren't more concerned or have more questions about what's going on with kyle and tara locke leads me to believe you know more about this than you're saying, and I don't like it.

Phyllis: This is a party, okay? They're gonna be back any second.

Nick: Don't do that.

Phyllis: Don't do what?

Nick: Try and downplay this.

Phyllis: I'm not trying to downplay it. Listen, I just don't think there's anything to worry about.

Nick: Mnh-mnh. The only reason you wouldn't tell me about something is if you were concerned about how I was gonna react.

Phyllis: That is not true. And I think you're overreacting. Really. There's nothing to worry about. There's nothing going on.

Nick: Mnh-mnh. The look on tara locke's face, the way kyle rushed right over to her, how hard summer was working to make it seem like everything was cool, mnh-mnh. Doesn't pass the sniff test.

Phyllis: Depends what you're sniffing.

Nick: [ Sighs ] If things aren't gonna be okay, if this is going to affect summer in any way or if she's going to be hurt, I deserve to know about it.

Kyle: Okay, we're alone. What's so important?

Tara: [ Sighs ] Remember how I told you that ashland was a changed man after the heart attack?

Kyle: You told me it had a profound effect on him. That he was reevaluating his entire life.

Tara: In the spirit of starting fresh, he wanted me to be completely honest.

Kyle: Mm.

Tara: He told me he suspected that I had been unfaithful -- with you, in particular -- and that he wanted to give me the opportunity to stop living a lie. He claimed he forgave me in advance, that he knew he hadn't been easy to live with, and that he couldn't blame me for seeking comfort in another man's arms.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

Tara: He was warm and gentle and contrite and [Chuckles] Oh, so convincing.

Kyle: So you told him. You admitted that we had an affair that summer in the hamptons.

Tara: As soon as the words were out of my mouth, he dropped the act.

Kyle: Yeah.

Tara: He transformed into a different person. Or rather, the same person i knew him to be when he feels betrayed -- cold, cruel, vindictive. He said he wanted me gone by morning and that he wants to immediately divorce me. I know what he's capable of.

Kyle: Yeah, so you ran. You took harrison.

Tara: And came to the one person who can help us. Like many people with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis

Adam: Hi. Um...[Clears throat] This is adam newman. I wanted to check on a patient who was recently admitted there. The name? Um...yes. It'S... it's, um... um, never mind. I am so sorry, chelsea. I am so sorry.

Michael: Look, I tell you what, chelsea, why don't we just start from the beginning? Whenever you think that was.

Chelsea: My head hurts. I don't want to do this anymore. I'm tired. I just want to sleep.

Montgomery: I think that's enough for today.

Michael: Alright. We'll revisit this another day. Soon. Look, I will come back to take your statement, chelsea. And maybe in the time between now and then, you might try to organize your thoughts, put them down on paper -- might make things easier. Okay? Okay. Thank you.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

I'm all alone.

I've lost everyone.

Everything.

And it's her fault -- sharon'S.

Sharon has destroyed my life.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] It's been such a great day. Faith's home from the hospital. You're here to stay.

Rey: I'm so glad that her surgery went well and that faith's gonna be okay.

Sharon: She's gonna be so happy when she wakes up in the morning and sees that you're here. She's had really high hopes for us.

Rey: Good to have her in our corner.

Sharon: I think she was frightened -- as was I -- that we might not be able to work things out.

Rey: You know, I feel terrible that I put you through so much stress when you needed to be focused on your daughter.

Sharon: We're only looking forward now. Together.

Summer: I assume that you were just skulking around, listening at keyholes, just looking for ways to make trouble. How thrilled were you when you learned about our engagement party, right? Just what a great way to stick it to both of us. I can just picture you going to tara with all this information. Now, sally, please tell me, on a scale of 1 to 10, how giddy were you at this prospect of ruining my night?

Sally: Are you finished?

Summer: No, actually, I'm just getting started with you.

Sally: I didn't bring tara here. She saw me passing through. She said she needed to find kyle and said it was an emergency.

Summer: Right, and you were just all too happy to point her in our direction.

Sally: Hey, it is not my fault that your fiancé's still paying for his indiscretion. And honestly, you should probably watch out yourself. You know what they say -- "once a cheater, always a cheater."

[ Sighs ] Truth hurts, huh?

Tara: I had no choice. I had to run. Ash told me I was unfit to be harrison's mother. Vowed to annihilate me in court. Convince the judge that I should never be allowed near his son again.

Kyle: Well, did you tell him about his paternity?

Tara: No, I'm terrified to think of what his reaction would be to that news.

Kyle: There's no way he can keep you from your son. No court would allow it.

Tara: You know what he's capable of. You saw it when he came after jabot. He has resources and connections to make good on his threats. He knows powerful people. I would do anything to protect my son from that bitter, vengeful man. Just I need your help, kyle. Please. Just hide us until I can figure something out. If you won't do it for me, do it for your son.
