Episode #12096 ~ Sharon keeps a secret for Adam. Rey interrogates Chloe.

Summer: Maybe it's a trap, kyle. Think about it.

Kyle: Tara's in this as deep as I am. She has just as much to lose.

Summer: Yeah, exactly, which is why maybe she's looking out for her own interests and not yours.

Kyle: Well, there's only one way to know for sure.

Jack: What's going on with you two? Is there a problem?

Kyle: Tara texted me last night. She said she wanted to talk about something, and the last time we spoke, she indicated that she might know of a way to counteract the sabotage at jabot.

Summer: And I think that she might be setting kyle up.

Kyle: That doesn't make any sense.

Summer: What if she thinks that ashland's anger towards you is what caused his heart attack?

Kyle: Okay, I know her a little better than you do, and i trust her.

Summer: Really, even though she's lied to you before?

Jack: What did she lie to you about?

Michael: We have got law enforcement in all the surrounding counties keeping an eye out for adam. Not one lead. He can't have just vanished off the face of the earth.

Rey: No, he definitely didn't do that.

Michael: You wouldn't be holding out on me, would you?

Rey: No facts, just an interesting theory.

Michael: Okay. I'm listening.

Rey: Sharon claims that adam is innocent and that he is being framed by -- wait for it -- chelsea. You don't look that surprised.

Michael: Yeah. Yeah, well, you're not the first person to suggest that she could be responsible. The surprise is that this is coming from your wife.

Rey: Well, she thinks that chelsea is motivated by a desire to seek out revenge for what she views as a betrayal.

Michael: Are you starting to believe that this might be a little more than just a theory?

Victor: By the way, didn't you tell me that today was faith's first substance abuse treatment session? Will you be there for her?

Nikki: Yes, I arranged it with sharon and nicholas.

Victor: Kindly give her a big hug, okay? Tell her no matter what, I'll always be there for her, okay?

Nikki: I will. I know it will mean a lot to her. Have you heard from adam?

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] No. And quite frankly, it's beginning to worry me.

Faith: Where's rey? Working nights again?

Sharon: Yeah, he's working a big case.

Faith: How long do you think it'll go on? I miss having breakfast together.

Sharon: I miss him too. Hey. You look a little out of it. You feeling okay?

Faith: I'm just tired and a little queasy.

Sharon: Well, maybe you should stay home today.

Faith: No. It's not that bad. Besides, how would that look? Barely back a day and already missing class?

Sharon: Well, sweetheart, if you don't feel well...

Faith: I can't be a no-show today. It'll look like I'm already intimidated and too ashamed to show my face, which is not the case at all.

Sharon: I really hate to ask this, but I want you to feel like you can be completely open with me, okay?

Faith: Sure.

Sharon: This isn't a hangover, is it? You haven't been sneaking alcohol again, have you?

Faith: [ Sighs ] No, mom. I haven't been drinking. I've learned that lesson the hard way. It's probably just from all the stress from everything that's happened. I'm nervous about trying to get back to normal.

Sharon: Well, that makes sense, and if that's all it is, then I agree with you, you should go to school.

Faith: Thank you for believing me.

Sharon: Thank you for not overreacting to my questions.

Faith: I've been trying to get better about stuff like that. That's why I don't want to miss my first rehab group meeting today. I'm psyched, and I'm ready to handle whatever comes.

Sharon: Have I told you lately how proud I am of you? Just promise me, if you start to feel worse, come home. Deal?

Faith: Deal. Dad'll be here any minute to pick me up.

Kyle: Tara lied about something years ago, when we were together. It has no relevance to what's going on now. And besides, if she has information that could help us, I want to hear it. Don't you?

Jack: I have to admit, we need all the intel we can get right now.

Kyle: Just because ashland is in a hospital bed doesn't mean he can't pick up the phone and launch another missile at jabot, and we would never see it coming.

Jack: I agree. You should at least listen to what tara has to say before you go making any rash decisions about leaving jabot. That is not an option.

Kyle: Everything is gonna be fine, summer. I think we can trust tara.

Summer: Well, I don't know about that, but I do trust you. And I know that you're gonna handle this in the best way possible, so good luck.

Kyle: Thanks.

Summer: You're worried too, aren't you?

Jack: Yeah. I don't believe for one minute jabot is out of the woods yet.

Esther: Nina? Hi.

Nina: Oh!

Esther: I didn't know you were back in town.

Nina: Yeah, I've been back for a while. I'm keeping abby company while chance is away.

Esther: Oh, kevin told me that he was on leave from the gcpd, but I don't know any of the details.

Nina: Nobody knows any of the details.

Esther: [ Chuckles ]

Nina: All I know is that chance is on a mission for the feds.

Esther: Wow. Boy, I really feel out of the loop since I left the chancellor house. Anything else I missed?

Nina: Well, let's see... mariah agreed to be a surrogate for chance and abby, and she's pregnant. She and tessa have moved in to the house with us until the baby is born.

Esther: Wow. That's exciting.

Nina: It's very exciting. I am so looking forward to being a grandmother.

Esther: Yeah, congratulations.

Nina: Yeah, it's been nice living there and getting to know everyone.

Esther: Wow, four women living in the chancellor house, and you all get along?

Nina: [ Laughs ]

Esther: Oh, boy, that's got to be a first.

Nina: Yeah, it's a very different vibe from the days when katherine and jill were battling it out.

Esther: They fought all the time. I would just end up refereeing or cleaning up the aftermath.

Nina: Yeah, no. That big house still seems a little small, though, sometimes. For instance, today, tessa was rehearsing a new song, and even with my door closed, it was still just a little noisy to concentrate. That's why I'm here, just trying to get some writing done.

Esther: Well, there's a study in the east wing that's practically sound-proof.

Nina: [ Gasps ] Really?

Esther: Mm-hmm.

Nina: That's great! Oh, my gosh. Nobody knows that house the way you do.

Esther: That's for sure. So is the staff taking good care of all of you?

Nina: Oh, yeah, they're great. We're a pretty self-sufficient bunch, so.

Esther: Well, that's good to hear. I was afraid when I left that things would fall apart.

Nina: You miss working at the chancellor house, don't you?

Rey: I'm not sure what to believe. I hadn't given the idea that chelsea was the one who poisoned me much credence until last night.

Michael: What? What happened?

Rey: I went to see her with a plan to lure adam out of hiding, but she said something that stuck with me.

Michael: I'm guessing it wasn't a confession.

Rey: No, hardly. She was warning me about getting caught up with my obsession about adam. I had to admit that I was worried that in my determination to find him, I might do something that I would regret. But then she said something that floored me.

Michael: What?

Rey: "You're not like us, rey." She didn't say, "like adam," she said, "like us." And it got me wondering if that was maybe a subconscious admission of guilt. It was like she was saying that she and adam were equally capable of something much worse.

Michael: Well, there's no denying that chelsea has played fast and loose with the law, but it is a big leap to claiming that she poisoned you and then framed her fiancé for it.

Rey: I'm well aware of that. But there was something in her tone, and when you couple that with her "miraculous recovery" that only started after adam disappeared... maybe it'S... maybe it's nothing. It's probably nothing.

Michael: I disagree. I trust your instincts more than I trust chelsea's veracity. If you think there's the slightest possibility that she was alluding to something she did, you follow up on it. See where it leads.

Rey: I will. And I think I know just where to start.

Sharon: Where are you?

Adam: It doesn't matter. All you need to know is I'm far away from genoa city. But don't worry. I'm in a good place.

Sharon: What does that mean?

Adam: I'm somewhere where i can heal. It's like I'm home, yet somewhere new. It's given me a brand-new perspective, and that's actually why I'm calling. I wanted to apologize for the abrupt text that I sent to say goodbye. I understand now why you had to tell rey.

Sharon: Everything you do puts my marriage on the line.

Adam: I'm sorry for everything that I put you through.

Sharon: How do you know that I won't have rey trace this call?

Adam: Because I know you far better than you wish I did.

Sharon: Adam, please, you've got to stop putting me in these complicated situations.

Adam: Look, I am sorry. I know that I have no right, but I need to ask you for one last favor. So with your home & auto bundle,

Adam: I'm hoping that you'll let me call you and check in from time to time, you know, see what's going on with chelsea and connor.

Sharon: Why would you be so concerned about chelsea? She's the reason why you're on the run?

Adam: I know that it might seem strange, but the more that I think about it, I realize i can't fully blame her for this mess.

Sharon: How can you say that? She's framed you for attempted murder.

Adam: Look, I thought I was doing everything right for her, but it turns out, I was doing everything wrong, and the more i think about it, I realize that it's all because of you.

Sharon: Me? Don't put all this on me.

Adam: It's because of this unexplainable pull I feel towards you. You don't have to say anything, sharon. Just promise me that you won't look for me, and you won't tell rey, nick, or even victor that i called. Take care of yourself, sharon.

Kyle: Thanks for meeting me. I know you must be under a great deal of stress right now. How's ashland?

Tara: The surgery went well, thank god. The pacemaker appears to be working. Looks like he'll be released from the hospital tomorrow. The doctors will let us know if he's stable enough to travel.

Kyle: So soon?

Tara: Ashland is anxious to get back home to see harrison. But that's not what I wanted to talk with you about.

Kyle: I assumed it was about the attacks on my family's company.

Tara: It looks like jabot is gonna be just fine.

Kyle: Really? What makes you think that?

Tara: It appears my husband has already taken care of things.

Moses: Hey. What's up? You doing okay today?

Faith: The real question is, how are you doing? Killing it in ap bio? Already dazzled your teacher into giving you an a?

Moses: I like all of my classes and most of my teachers.

Faith: Sounds like everything's going great for you.

Moses: Except for one thing.

Faith: Oh?

Moses: The layout of this place is just insane. I'm still getting lost.

Faith: Come on then. Let me be your personal tour guide to the mysterious maze of a wisconsin private school.

Chloe: Hi. I came as soon as I could. Is everything okay?

Rey: Yeah, relax. I just wanted to ask you a few questions.

Chloe: I assume you want to talk about adam.

Rey: That's right. Take a seat.

Chloe: Well, I already told you I don't know where he is. And if I did, you better believe I would tell you in a heartbeat. I want that dangerous creep off the streets as much as you do.

Rey: Well, I just wondered if you'd thought of any new evidence in hindsight. Something that might help the case?

Chloe: I don't have any information. I thought you had plenty of evidence against adam, enough to convict and put him away for good. What more do you need?

Rey: Well, I pride myself on being thorough. You know, before you throw away the key, you always have to make sure that you have all the evidence. Wouldn't you agree?

Victor: Any news on adam's whereabouts?

Michael: Oh, no, nothing's changed. Your son is still on the run and all the evidence still points directly to him.

Victor: And you know why it does -- because that damn detective accused him of poisoning him instead of focusing on finding the real guilty party.

Michael: Yeah, I know, i know. You told me that you think chelsea did it. But look, victor, I can assure you that rey has not stopped investigating this case. He is as determined as ever to find all of the evidence and follow it wherever it goes.

Victor: Michael, don't be naive, alright? Do you think he's focusing on anyone other than the person he knows kissed his wife?

Michael: Victor, you know that rey would never let personal bias influence the investigation.

Victor: Come on, I don't know any such thing. That's nonsense.

Michael: Alright, you know what? Why don't we just -- why don't we just let the process play out? Trust -- trust the system. Trust rey's instincts.

Victor: The longer this goes on, the more damage it does to my family and to our reputation. And I won't have that. Is that clear? Make sure that he finds the culprit. Your mission:

Tara: Actually, he was the one that asked me to come and meet you. He wanted me to let you know that he plans to go forward with the business deal he discussed with you.

Kyle: What kind of mind game is he playing now?

Tara: I assure you it's not a game.

Kyle: Did your husband admit to you that he forced several of jabot's plants to close, that hundreds of people are out of work, thanks to him?

Tara: No. I was telling the truth when i said that ashland keeps his more underhanded business maneuvers to himself. I'm never privy to any of them. But I do know one thing.

Kyle: What? Did ashland give you more bombs to drop?

Tara: This isn't a message from him. This is from me. Something I can attest to.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Tara: The heart attack, it changed him. He is a gentler man today. The anger is gone.

Kyle: Someone like him doesn't change. He's probably just exhausted from the ordeal, or maybe it's the meds he's on.

Tara: I know my husband too well. I saw love and tenderness in his eyes. A look I usually only see when he's with harrison. I'm gonna ask him to step back from being so hands-on with his businesses for a while. The stress from the job is probably what put him in the hospital to begin with.

Kyle: Do you think he'll agree to that?

Tara: I need ash to get well because no matter what you or anyone else thinks, I am with him because I love him.

Kyle: I'm sorry you're going through this.

Tara: Thank you. But this isn't about me. You should know that the jabot plants will reopen soon without any further issue. And if you want to go forward with the plan, he'll make jabot the sole advertiser on his health and beauty platform. That should negate all the bad publicity.

Kyle: Why should my dad and i believe that ashland's suddenly operating on good faith?

Tara: I realize that you might not be able to trust him, but you can trust me. The heart attack was a blessing in disguise. It changed everything.

Esther: I told myself when i moved out that it would be the perfect time to retire. And I thought it would be a lot of fun to be a full-time grandmother.

Nina: Yeah. It's not?

Esther: Yeah, yeah. Don't get me wrong, I love every second that I'm with bella and miles, but the chancellor house was such a big part of my life, and hearing about all of the stuff that's going on without me there, I just feel a little left out.

Nina: Well, that's understandable. I mean, you were the eyes and ears of that place for a long time -- and the heart.

Esther: Well, people thought that all I did was run around with a feather duster, but managing that estate was a lot of work, and I was good at it.

Nina: You were great at it. As far as I'm concerned, you are one of the three grand dames of the chancellor mansion, right up there with katherine and jill.

Esther: Oh, come on. If you wrote a movie about that house, I mean, they would be the stars and I would barely have any lines.

Nina: Well, listen, I do write movies, and I'll tell you right now that the supporting characters are every bit as important as the leading ladies. And sometimes they even steal the film.

Esther: Well, I did get good reviews for my role in our community theater production of "streetcar named desire."

Nina: Well, there you go. If you want to come back, you should come back.

Esther: I mean, I don't want to un-retire. I like living with my family, and having time for myself.

Nina: Well, it doesn't have to be full-time. I've read katherine's will. You know, you can have a job there as long as you want to. There are no hours specified, so whenever you're in the mood.

Esther: Yeah, but you said things are running smoothly without me.

Nina: Well, they are, but the house is missing that special touch, and I have a feeling that all it would take is for you to come back for the occasional shift to bring it right back.

Esther: That is the perfect arrangement. Thanks, nina. You just helped me find a way to stay connected to the chancellor house.

Nina: Well, good! I'll look forward to seeing you there from time to time. And you will probably find me writing in that very quiet study in the east wing. Thanks for the tip.

Esther: Yeah, sound proof.

[ Laughs ]

Moses: Hey. What is that?

Faith: Just a little keepsake from one of my adoring fans.

Moses: Well, your fan needs to go to art school. That drawing looks nothing like you.

Faith: Yeah. It's pretty bad.

Moses: Hey, don't let that stupid stuff get to you.

Faith: Oh, it's not that. I've been feeling a little sick all day.

Moses: You do look a little bit fatigued.

Faith: It's probably just the nerves kicking in about my first rehab session.

Moses: Don't forget what i told you yesterday, you got this.

Faith: Thanks for the pep talk. Want to meet up later at crimson lights?

Moses: I'd like that.

Faith: I'll text you when I'm out of my session.

Moses: See you later.

Faith: See you.

Rey: Before adam left, you spent a lot of time at the penthouse with chelsea.

Chloe: I visited as much as i could.

Rey: Did you ever notice any tension between them?

Chloe: Not really. I mean, she couldn't talk or move. It would have been pretty hard to tell.

Rey: Did adam ever act suspicious, like he was hiding something?

Chloe: Adam always looks suspicious. He's never not hiding something.

Rey: What about phone calls? Did you ever overhear adam talking to anyone?

Chloe: Why are you interrogating me like this? I already told you I didn't witness anything that could help you with your case.

Rey: I'm just trying to jog your memory. Sometimes there are little things that don't make an impression at the time.

Chloe: All I know is that adam is a monster. Of course he's guilty. He's always guilty. The only difference this time is that he usually gets away with it.

Rey: I get why you feel that way, but no jury in the world is gonna buy your opinion as proof. Now I have a vested interest in this, and I'll be damned if i don't get to the truth -- the whole truth.

Chloe: Are you accusing me of something? And if so, what?

Rey: Whoa, whoa. Calm down. I'm just trying to get all the facts, but it looks like i struck a nerve.

Chloe: Yeah, damn right you have. After everything that adam has done to me and my family, why would I protect him? And I hope you know that I am deeply offended. And I need to get going. I'm already late to pick up my son. And in the meantime, you should save your interrogation techniques for someone who deserves it, like the guy who poisoned you.

Victor: I came by to to see how faith was doing.

Sharon: Oh, well, she wasn't feeling 100% this morning, but she was determined to face her classmates and go to rehab.

Victor: Well, she's a newman. You know, she'll be stronger than ever after this ordeal. But that is not why I came by.

Sharon: Oh. What can I do for you?

Victor: Have you been in contact with adam at all?

Sharon: I'm sorry to say, i have no idea where he is.

Victor: Hmm.

Sharon: But this time, i think he's going to stay gone.

Victor: Huh. Well, I have to admit, I was pretty harsh with you last time that I found out that you had told your detective husband where adam was hiding. But I have a feeling we're on the same page now, right? I mean, you will tell me when you hear from him, right?

Sharon: Of course. Everyone remembers the moment they heard...

Kyle: Can you believe this move? Locke wants to put the deal back into play, as if nothing happened.

Summer: What is ashland up to?

Kyle: Tara truly believes that his near-death experience had a profound effect on him.

Jack: I mean, that is a possibility. These things do happen. Staring death in the face can shake somebody up, or this could just be another sleight-of-hand on locke's part.

Kyle: Tara seemed sincere and more than a little worried about her husband's health. She said they were both anxious to get back to new york as soon as the doctors give them the go-ahead.

Jack: I can imagine with everything locke's been through, he's eager to get back home to his son. I'm just not sold on the idea of getting back into business with him after the number he did on us.

Kyle: You've got to admit there are benefits to being associated with a company like locke'S.

Summer: Ashland locke has a less than wholesome image. Are we sure that partnering with him is really a good look for jabot after everything that happened?

Jack: Look, his personal image is less than sterling, but I got to tell you, his companies hold a pristine place in the business world. Jabot might do well to link up with them right now.

Kyle: The crisis we just went through definitely had a negative impact on our profile. Not to mention the bruising we took on social media.

Jack: And then, of course, there's victor to consider. Once he's running cyaxares, he is not gonna be too keen on pumping up jabot. We have the rest of locke's empire supporting us.

Summer: Yeah, there's already a lot of buzz about their new health and beauty platform. It's already being called a big game-changer.

Kyle: What if we reject the deal? Locke may take that as a hostile move and slip right back into retaliation mode.

Jack: I don't think we have a choice. I think we have to do this deal with the devil, and then cut him loose at the first opportunity.

Sharon: Getting your coffee here now so you can avoid running into me at crimson lights?

Rey: Can't deny that.

Sharon: Won't you even consider coming home? Just give us another chance to try to work this out.

Rey: That wouldn't change the one constant that's always causing havoc in our marriage.

Sharon: If it turns out that I'm right and he is innocent, would you look at this situation in a whole new light?

Rey: His innocence or guilt isn't the source of our issues. It's more than that and you know it.

Sharon: Yeah, I do. But I just want you to know that I'm still willing to fight for us...as hard as I fought to beat cancer because I care about you as much as I care about my own life.

Rey: You got to know that there's nothing more that I want than for us to have something left for us to fight for.

Sharon: We do that. We have so much. Can't you see that?

Rey: What I can see is that the only reason that adam is gone from your life is because he's running from the law. That's how far things had to go to end this crazy hold he has over you. Now, maybe you can't see the significance of that, but i certainly can. And it's a big red flag that you will never really be able to get adam out of your heart.

Nikki: Excuse me? Tara locke?

Tara: You're nikki newman, right?

Nikki: Yes. It's nice to meet you in person. I'm sorry I had to call you with such unfortunate news. How is your husband?

Tara: He's doing good. I'm very grateful to you for contacting me.

Nikki: Oh, of course. If the situation had been reversed, you would have done the same.

Tara: The heart attack happened when ash was with victor, right?

Nikki: Yes, they were meeting about the cyaxares deal. Why do you ask?

Tara: I had a troubling conversation with billy abbott. According to him, victor exploited the situation and took advantage of ashland's suffering to seal the deal.

Nikki: Well, I wouldn't put too much credence in what billy has to say about my husband. They have a long history of animosity between the two of them. Doesn't surprise me that he would try to misconstrue the situation just to take a jab at victor.

Tara: I see.

Nikki: Well, I hope that you do. Billy wasn't there, but I was.

Tara: I appreciate you clarifying the situation. Frankly, I just want ashland to get well enough so that we can go back home and never come back here again.

Nikki: I'm sorry genoa city has made such a bad impression on you.

Tara: We've had one unfortunate incident after another.

Nikki: Oh, dear. What else happened?

Jack: Tara. I was so sorry to hear about ashland. How's he doing?

Tara: He's gonna be fine. Thanks for asking. It's good to see you, jack. Thanks again, nikki. I really must go now.

Nikki: Don't tell me the lockes have been playing games with you too.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Summer: Oh, sorry, did you book this room? I should have looked at the schedule. Let me just clear out.

Sally: You know what? Hold up a minute, summer. Can we talk? When I get a migraine, I go to the darkest place I can find.

Nikki: I definitely felt some tension between you two.

Jack: Oh, it's not her. It's her husband. And to be honest, I was only a little bit sorry to hear about his heart attack given everything he's put jabot through.

Nikki: Was ashland behind that?

Jack: Oh, I believe he was, but a man like locke does not leave a trail.

Nikki: I'm sure you've heard that victor has acquired cyaxares media.

Jack: Oh, yes. And odd as it is for me to be giving victor friendly advice, here goes. Tell your husband if there's still time to get out of that deal, he should do it. Have a good day.

Victor: Come on, son. Call your father. I can help you.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Oh, you did it, dad. Despite everything that's going on with me.

[ Sighs ]

Faith: Grandma, I didn't expect to see you today.

Nikki: Hi. Well, I wanted to be here in case you wanted to talk about anything from your first rehab session.

Sharon: Yeah, your dad's on the way, and we all want to hear how it went.

Faith: It was really something. I'm not sure what I expected, but I'm glad that you and moses helped prepare me.

Nikki: So was I right? There was nothing to fear?

Faith: Everyone was really nice. And I even shared a few times.

Sharon: What did you say?

Faith: [ Sighs ] I admitted that sometimes, when I feel like I'm being bullied, i have an urge to have a drink.

Nikki: Oh, honey, that is terrific. It is so important to recognize those urges and speak honestly about them.

Faith: The best part about the whole thing was finding out that other kids feel the same for different reasons, of course. One guy called it a crutch. And I have to fight the urge to go to that crutch when things get bad.

Nikki: Well, that's exactly right. And I'm sorry to say, it can be a battle, take it from me. But the good news is I will always be right there with you. You won't have to fight it alone.

Sally: I know you don't trust me. And after everything that's happened, you probably never will, and I'm sure that you hate me.

Summer: Well, I try not to hate anyone, even if it is very difficult for me to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Sally: Well, I'm glad to hear it. But there is something that i want you to know. I wasn't up to anything devious or manipulative with jack, and if I thought for one second that I prove that, especially to jack, I wouldn't hesitate.

Summer: Yeah, I'm sure you wouldn'T.

Sally: See? Right there, that is exactly what I'm talking about. I can't catch a break with you because you've already made up your mind about me. From day one, it didn't matter what I did.

Summer: I'm confused here. Is this an apology or an accusation?

Sally: I'm just stating the facts.

Summer: Or at least your take on them.

Sally: There it is again. Look, you, your mother, and your boyfriend have all experienced people thinking the worst about you when it wasn't true based on a handful of times when it was.

Summer: Sally, we are all judged on the basis of our past actions -- including you.

Sally: The only difference is, you all get to move past your mistakes because others gave you the chance, but not one of you is willing to do the same for me.

Find your rhythm.

Summer: Can we not do this right now?

Sally: I'm just trying to have an honest conversation with you.

Summer: No, sally, we told lauren that there would be no more fighting or pettiness.
