Episode #12091 ~ Jack confronts Ashland Locke. Kyle decides to confess. Sharon fights for her marriage.

Sally: Sorry I'm a few minutes...late.

Lauren: No problem, come on in.

Sally: I didn't mean to interrupt.

Jack: No, you didn'T. Meeting went long. I'm just on my way out. I will circle back to follow up on those things we discussed.

Lauren: Sounds good.

Sally: He told you?

Lauren: That you're no longer seeing each other? Yes.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Well, he clearly hates me now. He couldn't get out of here fast enough.

Lauren: [ Sighs ] He doesn't hate you. He was dismayed by your behavior and the fact that you weren't honest with him, as I was. And he was definitely bothered by the way that you acted when you got into it with phyllis.

Sally: I was upset and i lashed out, but that is not who I am. At least not the person that i want to be, the person that jack saw and believed in -- at least for a little bit. I would just give anything if he could just forgive me and give me another chance.

Lauren: And why is this so important to you?

Sally: Because... I have fallen in love with him.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Rey: Oh. Hello?

Sharon: Hi, it's me. I was just checking in, wondering what time you might be home.

Rey: Um, I'm on a break now, but I was planning on heading back to the station once I was done.

Sharon: Oh, okay. I'll see you later then?

Rey: Yeah, sharon. I'll see you later.

Lola: Hey, big brother. You know, I've been calling you.

Rey: Yeah. I'm sorry. I should've phoned you by now. There's been a lot going on.

Lola: I know. It's okay. But is everything okay with you? I couldn't help but overhear you say goodbye to sharon, and you seem...not yourself. Did everything go okay with faith in court this morning?

Rey: Yeah, yeah. Faith is fine. Everything went as expected.

Lola: Well, that's a huge relief. What's going on? I can tell there's something wrong.

Rey: Sharon and I are having some problems, and this time, I'm not sure we're gonna get past them. I told her once everything settles with faith, I'm gonna be moving out.

Lola: Oh, wow. Really? What brought that on?

Rey: It's adam. Always adam.

Lola: I'm so sorry, rey. Whatever you decide to do, i have your back 100%, alright?

Rey: Thank you.

Lola: And if you need a place to live, you can always stay with me.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Honestly, I haven't thought that far ahead, but thank you.

Lola: Well, that's a good sign, then. Right? Maybe you'll reconsider, or maybe the two of you two will have a breakthrough moment before you decide to move out. Because once you do, rey, the distance is going to make the issues between the two of you a lot harder to overcome. Hey, are you sure you're ready to give up on your marriage like this?

Traci: This is the most amazing news. I'm so, so excited.

Mariah: Yeah, it's -- it's all happening.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

Abby: Well, thank you for all the good wishes. What do you have here?

Traci: Oh, I brought treats. I thought we could have a celebratory lunch.

Abby: I would love that.

Mariah: I would, too, i promise. I just -- my morning sickness turned into afternoon sickness, and I'm feeling fine now. I just -- I don't know if my stomach can handle another meal.

Traci: Sweetie, I'm so sorry. Say not one more word about it. But are you feeling fine otherwise? I mean, besides the queasiness?

Mariah: Yes, yeah. I am feeling fine, and I was actually just telling abby that I feel well enough to go on a last-minute work trip for jabot.

Abby: Are you sure you're up to flying?

Mariah: Yeah, 100%. And I know that you might be nervous, but don't worry. It's gonna be fine.

Abby: No, I -- look, I know life doesn't stop just because you're pregnant, but, I mean, it is a little out of the blue. It wasn't even on your schedule an hour ago. You know what? Maybe -- maybe my uncle jack and kyle can let you join the meeting via video chat or they could just send someone else.

Mariah: They could, but they asked me, and I am perfectly able to do it.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Tara. What are you doing here?

Tara: After ashland called and we got into that huge fight, I had no choice but to come back here. He hasn't returned any of my messages, and I need to deal with whatever set him off. What in god's name happened between you two?

Kyle: I don't know exactly. I have some questions for you, too. But I don't think we should discuss this in public. Why don't we meet up in my room?

Tara: What? I'm not coming to your room with you. If my husband found out --

Kyle: He won'T. But what is he gonna think if he sees the two of us down here together?

Tara: Okay.

Traci: Now, abby, pregnant women can fly, even later in the pregnancy.

Mariah: We can actually function a lot like regular people.

Abby: I know, I know. It's not even about the flight. I've been pregnant before, too, okay? I know all the do's and don'ts.

Mariah: I know you're worried, but it's going to be fine. It's not even a long trip.

Abby: It's just, I mean, you've been nauseous, and i just -- I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I know I sound ridiculous, and i promise I am not trying to interfere with your job or anything.

Mariah: No, no, I don't think you are. I think you're just practicing your helicopter mom skills. I will take good care of your cargo. They will be flying business class before they're even born, like the newman-abbott-chancellor that they are. But I will let you guys have your lunch. I'm gonna go visit sharon before I pack, and keep up the good advice.

Traci: Bye.

Abby: Bye. Should I turn down my concern a notch?

Traci: Maybe just a smidge.

[ Chuckles ] But, abby, why do I get the feeling that it's not just a last-minute business trip that has you concerned?

Abby: You're right, but I'm not sure I should say more.

Traci: Okay, but whatever it is, you know you can tell me.

Tara: I hate this -- the fact that you came back into my life, all the turmoil it's causing.

Kyle: Yeah, I'm not happy about it either, but we can't go back in time. All we can do is move forward and handle things as they come.

Tara: I'm not even sure where we are right now. Tell me what happened when you and ashland met.

Kyle: The meeting was supposed to be about some proposal for jabot, but he ended up straight-out accusing me of sleeping with you.

Tara: [ Scoffs ] How did you react?

Kyle: Laughed it off. I said I assumed it was one of his infamous mind games. That seemed to satisfy him, and he backed off. He said the way I reacted made him realize there was nothing to his suspicions.

Tara: That was the mind game.

Kyle: Yeah, that's what i thought, too. Beneath that smile, there was an underlying threat.

Tara: I've seen him give people that smile more than once.

Kyle: Okay, so what did he say to you during your fight?

Tara: He was vague. I mean, he said he knew the truth and that he was disappointed. When I asked what the hell he was talking about, he got angry, said then said I knew damn well, and shut down. But that's his M.O. -- When he thinks he's been bested or made a fool of, he flies off the handle and then turns cold and calculating. That's when he's the most dangerous.

Kyle: Have to say, I'm not sure why you're married to someone you consider dangerous.

Tara: That's none of your business.

Kyle: Fair enough. But your husband is now literally messing with my business. There have been some unfounded rumors about in-house problems with jabot, and I'm pretty sure he's behind them. I suspect he's spreading misinformation to make it look like jabot is struggling.

Tara: I have no idea about that. I mean, ash only discusses his business strategies with me when he's doing something aboveboard, but it certainly sounds like something he'd do.

Kyle: He'd ruin my family's company to send a message to me? And everyone I care about?

Summer: What's going on here?

Jack: Ashland. I'm a little surprised to see you're still in town. This is turning into quite the lengthy visit.

Ashland: I'm finishing up some business with the newmans.

Jack: While you're backing out of doing business with jabot. Was it something we said?

Ashland: Actually, it's something that you did. Or rather, something that your son kyle did.

Mariah: I just wanted to stop by for a few minutes because things have been so crazy for me lately, in a good way, and i haven't been able to fill you in.

Sharon: I want to hear everything about the pregnancy.

Mariah: Well, the long version is gonna have to wait because I'm headed out of town to handle something for jabot. But when we get back, we should schedule some time to hang out, and I can bore you with every detail.

Sharon: Are you kidding? It won't be boring to me. You must be having all these new feelings and experiences, and i want to hear about every one of them. Pregnancy is a big deal. In fact, we should plan something special and celebrate when you get back.

Mariah: Actually, I'm kind of excited to go on this trip because I need a break from being the center of attention. Wait, I don't want to be the center of attention? That doesn't sound right, I'm sure it'll pass.

Sharon: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Anyway, I got your message about faith. How is she?

Sharon: She did so well in court today. She was mature and remorseful, she took responsibility for her actions, and she's prepared to do whatever's required of her going forward.

Mariah: That's amazing. And she's back in school?

Sharon: She went to her afternoon classes.

Mariah: She must have been as nervous to face those bullies as she was to go into court.

Sharon: She was. But she texted me a little while ago and she says it's going alright -- a little rough, but seems like she's holding her own.

Mariah: Speaking of rough, how is the adam situation? Is he still on the loose?

Sharon: Yes.

Mariah: How are you and rey handling that? Oh, no.

Sharon: We've been arguing -- a lot.

Mariah: How bad?

Sharon: I may have already lost him.

Rey: Sharon and I have talked until we're blue in the face, and still haven't made any progress. I'm not sure what there's left to do except walk away.

Lola: I'm so sorry, rey.

Rey: I remember talking to you about this weeks ago -- sharon and adam and their apparently unbreakable bond. I mean, this happened before i even went into the hospital.

Lola: Okay, so you're telling me that sharon hasn't completely washed her hands of adam?

Rey: She doesn't think he's the one who poisoned me, but all the evidence points to him. It's the same with victor.

Lola: Mm-hmm, and is there a chance that they might be right?

Rey: Okay, my point is, even if adam isn't guilty, sharon immediately ran to his defense. She stood by his die, even though she knew what this would do to our marriage. It's the same thing, over and over again. And at some point, you have to ask yourself the question -- no matter how much you love someone -- "is this a battle you're never gonna win?"

Lauren: Okay, this report looks great. As a follow-up, could you do projections for the next quarter?

Sally: Of course. Is there anything else you want to go over?

Lauren: I think that's it.

Sally: Okay. Thanks. Can I ask you something as a friend?

Lauren: Sure.

Sally: Well, I had just told you that I was in love with jack and you barely said anything.

Lauren: Ah, well. I thought maybe you were exaggerating.

Sally: Why would you think that?

Lauren: Because in my opinion, you haven't known jack long enough to have those kinds of feelings. I think maybe you've mistaken infatuation for love. And honestly, sometimes you have to know when it's time to move on.

Kyle: Tara came back to town because she's just as worried about ashland's behavior as we are.

Summer: Right, well, there's are these things called phones.

Tara: Believe me, I'd rather be anywhere but here, but I need to talk to my husband face-to-face.

Summer: So you just decided to make a little detour first?

Tara: We bumped into each other in the lobby, and I just think we all need to be on the same page.

Kyle: Agreed. So what can I do to defuse the situation with ashland?

Tara: There's nothing for you to do. I'm the only one that might be able to convince him he's wrong about the two of us.

Kyle: Should I be concerned about you? Or harrison?

Tara: I can take care of myself, and I will look out for my son. You just worry about yourself. And whatever you do, stay away from my husband.

[ Door closes ]

Jack: What exactly do you mean? Did kyle not handle his meeting with you the way you expected him to?

Ashland: You know what I'm referring to.

Jack: Actually I don'T. Maybe you could refresh my memory.

Ashland: When we discussed your reputation as a ladies' man, I told you that I believed the apple hadn't fallen far from the tree. Kyle's proved that idiom true, hasn't he?

Jack: What do you we not waste each other's time. You have something you need to say to me, just say it.

Ashland: I just did.

Jack: Okay, then perhaps you can shed some light on another subject. You wouldn't maybe know anything about some vicious rumors that are circulating about jabot, would you?

Kyle: I'm sorry you were caught off-guard like that.

Summer: Yeah, I got to admit that the last thing I expected to see when I walked into our suite was tara.

Kyle: I was just as surprised as you were when I ran into her downstairs, and I figured it'd be better to talk to her up here.

Summer: Yeah, I get it. You didn't want to worry about ashland walking in and seeing you together. But I can promise there was no chance of that happening because I just saw him heading into society.

Kyle: You crossed paths?

Summer: No, I managed to avoid him.

Kyle: Good, because there's no telling what he would say to you? Nothing seems to be off-limits with this guy. Everything I feared might happen if he learned about the affair is coming true.

Summer: Okay, well, tara still seems to think that she can turn things around, and you have to remember, ashland is just running on instinct and suspicion. He doesn't know for a fact that anything happened between you two.

Kyle: Doesn't seem to matter. He's still going on the attack -- or at least it looks like it to me -- by targeting jabot. I can't keep dancing around it with this guy, or else people are gonna get hurt, and that's on me. I need to face him head-on and tell him that whatever anger he has, he needs to deal with me and only me.

Summer: Okay. I'm sorry. Kyle, are you saying that you're planning on admitting that you had an affair with his wife? Because I really don't think that that's a good idea.

Kyle: What else can I do at this point?

Summer: You need to keep playing it like your dad said -- indirect and sly -- until we know exactly what ashland knows. Just avoid him. Tara and I agree that that is the best strategy right now.

Kyle: I don't think an indirect approach is going to work with someone like him.

Summer: Okay, but a bull in a china shop will? Kyle, you need to think about what will happen if you confront this guy. It'll lead to questions about the timeline of your affair, which will lead to questions about harrison. If nothing else will stop you, at least just think about what this will do to your son.

Abby: You know, it's not even about the traveling. I mean, this is... it's embarrassing to admit, but I just wish mariah didn't have to leave. I mean, I love having her here. I love getting to experience this pregnancy vicariously through her and... that probably sounds selfish. Well, am I gonna turn into a nag?

[ Both laugh ]

Traci: Honey, given the amount of self-awareness, realizing that there's a potential problem, I don't think that's gonna happen. Don't worry. I have never been in your position exactly, but i completely understand wanting to be around for every little change, for every single small miracle. But I think you have to also consider mariah's feelings.

Abby: I know, I know. You're so right. And I would never want mariah to feel pressured or uncomfortable.

Traci: No, and I'm sure she just realizes that you're just so excited about the pregnancy.

Abby: It's the most odd feeling. It's like... it's like falling in love. I mean, I already have a connection with this baby.

Traci: Well, if it helps, i don't think you're gonna miss a single thing over the next two or three days. I mean, sometimes a wednesday when you're pregnant is just like any other wednesday, you know? You eat, you work, you sleep.

Abby: Well, that does help a little.

Traci: [ Chuckles ] Oh, abby. You're going to have so many beautiful moments to share with mariah and the baby, with chance and the whole family. There will be pictures and memories, so many you could fill this whole house.

Abby: I love the thought of that. And, aunt traci, if I haven't said it recently, I am so grateful that you are a part of my life.

Traci: It is my pleasure.

Sharon: We had this huge argument that just never ended, until rey ended it. He's decided that he's gonna stay here for a little while longer for faith's sake, and then he's moving out.

Mariah: What? No, no. Why?

Sharon: Because he found out that I knew where adam was hiding, and I kept it from him for longer than I should have.

Mariah: You didn'T.

Sharon: It was a mistake. I wish I could go back. Rey was so furious. I tried to explain myself and make him understand, but... look, I know what you're thinking, okay? I'm aware of your opinion about me having anything to do with adam.

Mariah: Yeah, I think you should've handled the situation with adam differently, but i also understand why you went to him. He saved faith.

Sharon: Thanking him was my only intention.

Mariah: But I do understand why rey felt betrayed. You've chosen adam over him before, and I think he probably thought once you guys were married, this would be a thing of the past, but...

Sharon: I swear, it is. I've tried to stay away from adam. I've asked him to leave me alone. I wouldn't ever see him again if that's what it takes, but I'm worried that it's already too late. I've created this crack in my marriage that we just can't seem to heal.

Mariah: Okay. I think everybody's emotions are running very high, and that's understandable, considering everything you've been through, but maybe with a little bit of time, things will get better.

Sharon: I don't know. You didn't see rey or hear what he said. I don't think there's anything i could do that would make him change his mind.

Mariah: Maybe, but that doesn't mean you should stop trying to tell him what's in your heart.

Lola: I still believe that sharon loves you as much as you love her. To be honest, I've just been hoping that she would wake up one day and realize that adam isn't worth all the damage that he's caused.

Rey: You and me both, but it hasn't happened.

Lola: How did she react when you told her that you were moving out?

Rey: She begged me to stay. Said she would work harder in therapy, but I don't know.

Lola: Is it possible that once it sinks in that you're actually leaving, maybe she'll open her eyes?

Rey: [ Sighs ] There's no way to tell for sure.

Lola: Well, the fact that you're talking to me like this and you're asking yourself these really hard questions, I can tell that there's still a debate going on in your mind. Which means that you haven't lost all hope, so maybe you should stay and fight for what you want. You clean dishes as you cook,

Sally: You know, I know the difference between a crush and being in love. Maybe the reason I fell so fast for jack is because he is one of the most incredible men I've ever met.

Lauren: Look, I'm not denying jack's appeal. I just don't think that your deep feelings were reciprocated. And I don't say that to be mean. I say that because I care about you and I don't want to see you make another mistake.

Sally: Are you saying that for my benefit or because you feel the need to keep me away from jack?

Lauren: I'm watching out for both of you. Your relationship was fun while it lasted, but it's over.

Sally: You know, people have been known to un-break up.

Lauren: Yes, but I don't want to see you set yourself up for another disappointment. Please, please, take my advice.

Sally: Yeah, I understand.

Lauren: I'm sorry it didn't work out the way you hoped. I have another meeting. I need to run. I'll see you later.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Jack: Then you haven't heard any of these rumors about jabot exploiting its employees in unsafe working conditions?

Ashland: Not even a whisper. Sorry you're getting a bum rap, unless there's some truth behind them.

Jack: Of course there isn'T. We treat our employees very well and our facilities are run under the highest of standards. No, whoever's doing this is consciously spreading lies.

Ashland: Then it shouldn't be too hard to set the record straight. Not sure why you're asking me about it.

Jack: I just think it's curious that you haven't heard any of this. I mean, a man who takes great pride in keeping his finger on the pulse of the latest business news.

Ashland: This isn't news. It's rumors, something I make a point at ignoring. In fact, I'm surprised that you're paying as much attention to it as you are.

Jack: Ordinarily I wouldn't, but these particular fabrications seem specifically designed to make jabot look vulnerable.

Ashland: Vulnerable to what?

Jack: Outside attacks of some kind. I just find the timing especially intriguing.

Ashland: Well, whatever the reason why it's happening now, I'm sure jabot can weather the storm. It's a thriving, multi-national corporation with a long-lasting legacy. Now, what kind of fool would possibly want to mess with you? And for what, revenge? That is what you think this is about, right?

Jack: You tell me.

Kyle: I am thinking about my son. That little boy is living with a man who might already suspect he's not his kid. Ashland knows I lived in new york, he asked me about my time in the hamptons, so how can I justify sitting around and waiting to see what happens next when he could act out against an innocent little child?

Summer: I don't know. Tara did make a point of saying how much ashland loves him.

Kyle: But what if the guy starts looking at the boy and can only see his wife's affair? I need to do something.

Summer: Kyle, I think that you are really overreacting right now. Okay, you have no idea if anything like that would ever happen, but it definitely will if you come clean about this affair. Ashland will explode. It'll only escalate the situation.

Kyle: Maybe, but I'm willing to take the heat. This is my battle, and I need to protect other people from the potential fallout.

Summer: Okay, well, I don't know if you'd really be protecting anybody. Think, kyle. What will satisfy this guy?

Kyle: I'll offer to walk away from jabot if he leaves the company -- and everyone else -- alone. My plaque psoriasis...

Summer: I'm not gonna let you sacrifice yourself like this.

Kyle: The situation requires something of this magnitude.

Summer: Kyle, I respect and i appreciate where you're coming from, but I think that there's another way to approach this. Okay? A much safer and more positive way. What if we make a grand public announcement of our engagement, right? We show off our love and what a great relationship we have. Maybe all ashland needs to see is that no matter what happened in the past, you are no threat to his marriage now.

Kyle: I don't think that would make much of a difference. Besides, it feels weird using our relationship as some kind of defense against him.

Summer: Okay, well, that's what I want because I love the hell out of you, and I want to make it official. That's what really matters. Giving ashland a reason to reconsider things and go home with his family is just an added bonus.

Kyle: I wish it were that simple to get rid of him.

Summer: Okay, but maybe it is. It's worth a try, right? And, hey, we really do need to announce our wedding. I want everyone in the world to know that we're getting married.

Kyle: I feel the same way. But I don't think that's the answer to my problems. When it comes to ashland locke, I know what I have to do.

Summer: No. No. Kyle.

Mariah: Hey, there.

Lola: Hi.

Mariah: Are you off work today?

Lola: No, I'm just taking a break before the dinner rush. How about you?

Mariah: I'm just getting ready to go on a little work trip. So, I stopped in and saw sharon today.

Lola: I just talked to rey. We had a lot of catching up to do.

Mariah: So did sharon and I.

Lola: Are you worried about them as much as I am?

Mariah: Yes, totally. Can we talk about it?

Sharon: Hey.

Rey: Hey.

Sharon: Good to see you. I thought you were going to the station.

Rey: Yeah, change of plans. I ran into lola and told her what was going on with us.

Sharon: And what did she say?

Rey: Well, she -- she was upset, but supportive, hoping we can still find a way to stay together.

Sharon: I had the same kind of conversation with mariah. It's nice to know that your sister and my daughter are rooting for us to stay together.

Rey: I wish we could. But adam's been the third person in this relationship for too long.

Sharon: I don't want to talk about him. But I do want to talk about us. Would you be willing to listen -- I mean, really listen -- to what I have to say?

Jack: You've reached jack abbott. Please leave a message.

Summer: Hey, jack, it's summer. I'm really worried that kyle is about to do something incredibly risky and foolish, and I couldn't stop him, but maybe you can, so I'm just hoping you get this message in time. Okay. It's my 5:52 woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Mariah: I know sharon and rey have been having problems for a while.

Lola: One problem, really.

Mariah: You're preaching to the choir when it comes to adam. But sharon looked genuinely terrified that rey has been pushed too far.

Lola: Yeah, you should've seen him. I felt so bad, he had this defeated look in his eyes.

Mariah: Adam is a massive hurdle, but I don't think it's insurmountable. I think they genuinely still love each other.

Lola: I wish there was something that we could do for them.

Mariah: Maybe we can.

Lola: What does that mean?

Mariah: If we put our heads together, I'm sure we could figure out a way to help them out.

Lola: Hmm.

Sharon: When I envision my future, I picture myself by your side. Us coming home together and talking about our days, wrapped in each other's arms at night. I can see us going to faith's high school graduation and then visiting her in college. Visiting celeste in miami, learning your family recipes, and getting to know the city that you love. And I think we should buy a vacation home -- a place that's special for just the two of us -- maybe someplace in the mountains with a view. And I can see us waking up at sunrise, making love, and then gazing out at a sky that looks something out of a dream. Holding hands on the front porch as the years drift by. That's the life that I want. It's the only life I see for myself. Only, it doesn't work without you.

Rey: I used to see those things for us, too.

Sharon: Well, they're still right there, if we want them. We can have them all.

[ Cellphone vibrates ] Ugh, forget it. I'm not gonna answer it.

Rey: It's okay, it's alright. Just go ahead. Just go.

Sharon: Hello?

Rey: What is it? Sharon, is that adam? Give me the phone. Give me the phone. Listen to me, adam. I'm coming for you. It doesn't matter where you go, you cannot hide from me. Do you hear me? I will find you.

Sharon: I'm so sorry. I had no idea that he would call.

Rey: Of course he called. Of course he called. It's like he sensed something was going on between us and he had to interfere -- yet again.

Sharon: I don't want to talk about him. Can we please just get back to what we were saying?

Rey: You know, sharon, there is no going back because this never ends. I can't do this anymore. I can't stay here any longer.

Sharon: You said you would stay here for a while for faith.

Rey: Yeah, well, we'll have to make up an excuse why I can't be here. You could tell her that I'm working the midnight shifts.

Sharon: So you want to go right now, forever?

Rey: All I know is that i can't stay here tonight.

Sharon: Rey.

Ashland: I'm sorry I couldn't be more of a help, though I have no doubt that you'll find the source of these destructive rumors and handle them as need be.

Jack: You bet I will. I look out my own.

Ashland: Well, I wish you all the luck in the world. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a meeting with victor newman. Kyle, nice to see you.
