Episode #12074 ~ Devon opens up to Abby. Chelsea lets guard down. Amanda learns troubling news about her family.

Mariah: Hello? Hello? Hey, how are you doing? Oh, you know what? Don't answer that. That was a stupid question. You're obviously relieved and ecstatic that rey is home and he's feeling better. So, where is he?

Sharon: He's not here. Rey went to work.

Mariah: But he just got out of the hospital. Is that the best idea?

Sharon: It wasn't my decision, but...rey felt he had to take care of something that couldn't wait.

Adam: The hell is this?

Rey: It's a warrant to search the penthouse and your car.

Adam: For what? And why? What could you possibly think i did this time?

Rey: Wasn't my intention to put you in such an uncomfortable position. I know this isn't easy to watch.

Chelsea: You kidding? I've got the best seat in the house.

Rey: I'm sorry for showing up like this, but this is the way it had to be.

Chelsea: And I'm sorry for poisoning you, but I promise, it's going to be worth it.

Abby: Well, this is a nice surprise.

Devon: Oh, I just wanted to come and check on you and mariah and see how everyone's doing after the embryo transfer.

Abby: Well, that is very sweet, but I am the only one here. Mariah's at sharon's and nina went to go do some shopping. It's kind of strange -- everyone's just living their life as usual, and at the same time, everything's changing.

Devon: It's pretty amazing when you think about it, and not even from a medical aspect, just the fact that we all came together behind this big idea to help you and chance have a baby, and it's happening. It's real. It's a beautiful thing. And I know -- I know katherine would be over the moon that her dna is getting passed down to the next generation of chancellors.

Abby: It feels good to carry on her legacy. I'm sure you've done a lot of thinking about that, about passing on your genes, first biological child coming into the world.

Devon: Yeah, I have, and I'm all in. You know that.

Abby: Well, I've don't a lot of wondering on whether or not mariah's gonna feel sad or regretful that the first child that she's carrying isn't her own. I guess what I'm asking is are you worried that you won't be raising your first biological child?

Amanda: I'm assuming that this is a legal problem?

Naya: It involves my father -- your grandfather -- sutton ames. Some reporter is attempting to connect him to a crime that happened many years ago.

Amanda: I'm guessing we're talking about some kind of white-collar crime?

Naya: Oh, it's much worse than that. A man was killed.

Amanda: Sutton ames has been implicated in a murder?

Naya: Some reporter is claiming that he arranged it.

Amanda: Did he?

Naya: Of course not! That's why I came to see you. I'd like for you to defend him.

Amanda: [ Scoffs ] Why would you think that I would even consider defending the man who forced you to give me and hilary away?

Naya: Because the man my father is being accused of killing... is your father. It's very common to have

Sharon: Faith and I were tested for the toxin. The house has been inspected top to bottom. There were no other traces of it found, so we're all safe here.

Mariah: I mean, that's just not something you hear every day.

Sharon: He's okay now, thank god.

Mariah: Do you know how this happened? I mean, where it came from?

Sharon: That's what we're trying to figure out.

Mariah: It's just so strange. I wouldn't even know where to start.

Sharon: Well, the gcpd is all over it. I can't really talk about it because, you know, it's police business. Not that I know much more than that, but... anyway, let's talk about you. How are you feeling? I want to know how your procedure went.

Mariah: I mean, it went exactly how the doctors said that it would. I was awake for the entire procedure, and they implanted abby's fertilized embryo into me. Bada-boom. Whoa. I mean, now that it has had time to sink in, it's a little mind-blowing.

Sharon: It really is.

Mariah: If this takes, and everything goes as planned, i will be carrying abby and chance's child.

Sharon: Yep, that's how that works.

Mariah: [ Laughs ] And their hopes and dreams along with it.

Sharon: There's some pressure in that. Are you okay with that?

Mariah: Absolutely, I am. It's a little overwhelming, sure, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit scared, but doing this also brings a little bit of hope.

Sharon: Well, what you're feeling is totally natural. I mean, bringing a life, a child, into the world...

[ Sighs ] Hope and fear are always gonna be there, both, side by side.

Nikki: Can I get you anything?

Faith: No, I'm fine, thanks.

Nikki: Okay, if you need me for anything, I'm just in the next room.

Faith: Okay.

Adam: If you tell me what you're looking for, I might be able to help you find it. And why are you looking for it? Rey, I'm talking to you.

Rey: Don'T.

Adam: You know, I should be the angry one. You got a lot of nerve pulling this in front of chelsea. And the lack of information that you're willing to offer makes me think that you might be overstepping your authority, that this is personal, rey.

Rey: I'm in no mood --

Adam: You don't look so good, buddy. Why don't you take a little break for a while? What do you think he's searching for?

[ Sighs ] It never ends -- rey and his cronies, they need to hunt to put me away for something, anything. Guess we'll have to wait it out.

Chelsea: It's nerve-wracking, isn't it? Realizing that something's been going on behind your back, but you're not sure what or why. Are you feeling betrayed?

Adam: A small item in the news. Detective rosales was released from the hospital after being rushed there by an ambulance for an undisclosed illness. When sharon responded to those texts that she mistakenly thought I sent, she said rey was sick, but I didn't realize it was that serious. What is going on here? How do you think they make starburst taste so juicy?

Devon: Oh, abby, I am very aware of what my role is gonna be in all this, and it's one that I'm looking forward to, 'cause I'm just gonna be the cool uncle to your and chance's kid, that's it.

Abby: Well, obviously, you're gonna be the coolest uncle ever, and we are so grateful for you to play such an important role in our child's life. But I wasn't looking for that sort of reassurance. I guess I was just wondering -- as your nosy friend who loves you -- if you've thought about having a family of your own.

Devon: Well, I mean, I guess since we're making a baby together, there's no topic that's too personal. Yeah, yeah. To answer your question, of course. I really do want to have a child one day and a wife and a family, you know? Want the whole thing. I think I'm a ways away from all that, though.

Abby: Hey, you never know, could be closer than you think.

Devon: Is this your way of asking me how my dilemma's going with elena and amanda?

Abby: Yes. [ Chuckles ] Your nosy friend needs an update. The last we talked, you were trying to sort out your feelings. So are things any clearer?

Devon: The only thing that's clear is that I've probably ruined a good thing that could've been a great thing.

Amanda: My grandfather had my father killed?

Naya: Of course not. It's nothing but a reporter's accusation.

Amanda: Well, I'm assuming that this reporter has some proof and that the police are at least considering the evidence if you felt the need to reach out to me to be his attorney?

Naya: Well, the police have opened an investigation. But my father is being set up.

Amanda: By whom?

Naya: We don't know.

Amanda: You told me that my father was killed in a car crash.

Naya: He was. About a year after you and hilary were born. Your father's name was richard nealon.

Amanda: Richard... richard...nealon? You don't know how long I have waited to hear his name, how many times I've wondered.

[ Sighs ] Okay. So, um, this reporter is claiming that the car crash wasn't an accident and that sutton was behind it somehow? Why would it take 30-plus years for a murder charge to suddenly come to light?

Naya: I have no idea what this is all about. That's why I came to see you.

Amanda: Why on earth would you think I would take this on? And even if I did, I would not be the ideal person to help you. I've never tried a murder case.

Naya: But you've studied criminal law. And I know you recently represented your boss when he was wrongly accused of attempted murder.

Amanda: Well, that was resolved before it went to trial. It's not the same thing as going to court. And even if I did take this on, there is another issue. It would be impossible for me to hide my connection to the family.

Naya: We won't hide it. Not anymore.

Amanda: [ Scoffs ] Yesterday, I was a dirty secret that you had to hide from our family. You snuck out of your own house and drove to genoa city, so we could have clandestine meetings, so that you could hide your awful mistake from everyone. And now you are just ready to open the ames family gates and welcome me in?

[ Scoffs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Faith: You're joking, right?

[ Cellphone chimes ] Am I really doing this?

Adam: Someone sent texts to sharon talking about how I wish we both could be free that no one will believe I didn't write. Sharon's husband mysteriously is admitted to the hospital, and the moment he's released, he shows up here with a search warrant. Chelsea, do you know what this is about? Okay, I can only imagine the garbage that chloe's filling your head with. Did she convince you to turn on me? Did she somehow set this in motion? Or are you two in on it together? Or was it you? And you alone? That's really the explanation that makes the most sense. That you have recovered just enough to fool us all. Chelsea, if that's the case, you have to talk to me. And whatever this is between us, we can fix it.

Chelsea: No, adam. I'm fixing it.

[ Door closes ] If you, like many people,

Rey: Adam? Adam! Where is he? I'll send someone to stay with you until your nurse comes back.

Chelsea: Mm.

Amanda: I'm not sure how you go from keeping me a secret to wanting me to represent the family in a high-profile case for the whole world to see. I mean, that is a pretty extreme 180.

Naya: I believe we can take advantage of the situation to help us bond, bring us together. And, yes, it may force a relationship to develop more quickly than it would've otherwise, but you want to get to know your family, right? It's what we all want.

Amanda: Is it?

Naya: Yes, we want to bring you into the fold, onto our team.

Amanda: "Into the fold," "onto our team" sounds a little less motherly, a little more like something a publicist might say, which makes sense because i think you want to use me as a pr stunt, right, to gin up empathy for the family -- the tossed-away daughter defending her own grandfather. If she can forgive him for everything that he's done to her, then the jury would see him in a more empathetic light. It's good.

Naya: That's a cynical way of looking at it.

Amanda: How else should i look at it?

Naya: As a show of faith from a family who wants your forgiveness.

Amanda: A family. So, you're not here on your own, just testing the waters to see if I would even consider representing sutton. You told him that we've been in contact. Wow. I would have loved to see how that went over. Especially since he didn't even want you to acknowledge me because he thought that I was a threat to your carefully-crafted image, so much so that your daughter -- the one that you raised -- put out a restraining order against me.

Naya: That never should've happened. It was a mistake. And the order is no longer enforced.

Amanda: Yeah, now, because a bigger threat has surfaced and now I am useful to you and the family.

Naya: I assumed that you would want to find out the truth about richard's death because he's your father. And if he was murdered, i thought that you would want to see that the true guilty party pays for it, and that you would want to right this horrible wrong, and in the process get to -- get to know a family that would be forever grateful to you and welcome you with open arms. (Clucking noises)

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Naya: I admit, I was scared and desperate when I learned about the accusations against my father. But this may sound... sentimental, but I saw it as a sign that you had found me and that we had started building a relationship, that this was the reason. That fate had reunited us so that we could fight this together. As a family. I see it as an opportunity, which is what I told my father. That's why he agreed to this.

Amanda: I haven't agreed to anything. I don't even know the basic facts of the case, what actually led to my father's death, other than that car accident, and why anyone would think that my grandfather's behind it.

Naya: I can have his -- his current legal team forward all the information they have.

Amanda: Why don't you just tell me?

Naya: Because I don't know. They've kept a lot of the information from me as well, most likely on the orders of my father.

Amanda: That's a bit suspicious.

Naya: Well, that's because you don't know your grandfather. He's a very private man who keeps things guarded. From everyone, even me. It's his nature. You'll get used to it.

Amanda: Don't assume I'll say yes.

Devon: We definitely don't need to get talking about my love life. This is your day. This is -- you know, your and chance's dreams could be coming true as we speak. Mariah could be carrying your baby right now.

Abby: [ Laughing ] Yeah. I'm trying not to think too much about it because the enormity of it, well, it can be a bit overwhelming. But, yeah, this -- this is a big one. And I miss chance -- I miss him every day, but especially on days like this. I just -- I wish he could be here to experience all of this with us. Wait. M-maybe he can be here. I mean, not here-here, but maybe I can find a way to include him in all this stuff, in the big things and the small things and the everyday things.

Devon: How are you gonna do that?

Abby: Well, I could start a video diary. I could chronicle the next three to four months, and I can show it to him when he comes home.

Devon: I think that sounds like a perfect idea.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: I know it's got to be hell for him being gone like this.

Abby: Yeah. Yeah, it's tough on both of us, but I'm very proud of the important work that he's doing.

Devon: I think what's in order is a celebration for embryo-transfer day. We haven't had one yet. We should. We need to, uh -- we can have a nice dinner. We can go get mariah and just make sure she doesn't have any raw fish or alcohol or soft-serve ice cream, right?

Abby: I would love that.

Devon: Want to do grand phoenix?

Abby: Sure, yeah. I guess I can be on my best behavior around phyllis. I can work on my patience. I am a mom-in-training.

Devon: She might not even be working, but I can -- I'll call and make us a reservation.

Abby: Great. Yeah, I have a few things to do around here, but I'll hook up with mariah, and we'll meet you there?

Devon: Sounds perfect.

Abby: Yay!

Devon: I got to tell you, I'm beyond happy that this is all moving forward and that I'm a part of this.

Abby: So am I.

Mariah: It feels so good to be able to do something so meaningful for somebody else, and the fact that it's abby and chance -- I mean, they're gonna be the most generous and loving parents in the world. That baby is gonna be surrounded by so many people who love them. But it is funny, I am already starting to get a little protective over him or her, as well. Kind of like a fairy godmother who looks after them and protects them from getting hurt.

Sharon: Well, that's a nice thought, protecting your children from ever feeling any pain.

Mariah: The world can be cruel, and kids can be mean, but faith is gonna be okay.

Sharon: It's just been hard, watching her struggle to cope with those bullies and all the vitriol directed at her. It's just so unfair.

Mariah: Well, there's no way to completely shield her from it. If there was, I know that you and nick would be doing it.

Sharon: You would do anything to take their pain away, but you can'T. I remember going through that with you when you fell in love with your brother's girlfriend.

Mariah: Oh, god.

[ Laughing ] Yeah. That, that...I'm, uh... I'm sorry about that one. That was a bit of a mess.

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: But you made it through. You all did.

Mariah: You know, I'll never forget how understanding you were. You never judged.

Sharon: I just did my best to be there for you and noah, and look at how well it turned out for everyone. You and tessa are embarking on this incredible journey together, and noah, he's happy and thriving, he's just thrilled with his career.

Mariah: Yeah, it all worked out the way that it was supposed to.

Sharon: And I'm encouraged by the path that faith is on now. You know, she stood up to those kids at school and she's agreed to start therapy.

Mariah: That's great.

Sharon: See? Life may keep throwing things at you, but as long as you hang in there and you don't give up hope, eventually you get to the other side and everything is okay. When I get a migraine, I hide in the dark.

Sharon: Oh, good, you're home. You should be resting.

Rey: Has adam contacted you?

Sharon: No. Why?

Rey: I found a whole lot of evidence that points directly at him.

Sharon: Already? How is that possible?

Rey: I got a search warrant to search his place and his car. Found vial of white powder in his shaving kit -- tested positive for thallium.

Sharon: Oh, my god.

Rey: I also found that missing figurine that you thought faith might've stolen. It was in his car.

Sharon: Are you saying... that he stole it when he planted the poison?

Rey: Sure looks that way. There was something else that i found -- a tray? Did you know that that had gone missing?

Sharon: I... yes.

Rey: Why didn't you tell me?

Sharon: Because I thought it might have just been misplaced.

Rey: There must've been a reason why adam would take those things. What significance do they have?

Sharon: They're just trinkets.

Rey: What do they mean...to adam?

Sharon: Adam gave them to me a long time ago.

Rey: Mementos that you put around the house so you could see them every day.

Sharon: No. Not in the way that you're thinking. The figurine was given to me after I had come through the lowest point in my life. It's a symbol of my own strength and a reminder that i had come through it and I never wanted to go back to that place again.

Rey: And the tray?

Sharon: It's nothing.

Rey: He clearly thought that it was significant enough to steal. Maybe him taking those things was just a message to you -- that he was the one who planted the thallium and tried to kill me.

Nikki: Hey. You still not hungry?

Faith: No.

Nikki: Is everything alright?

Faith: I'm just playing games on my phone.

Nikki: Oh, well, they don't seem to be very much fun.

Faith: Grandma, please.

Nikki: Oh, honey. What is it? You can talk to me.

Faith: I just feel so stupid.

Nikki: Why? What happened? Please tell me.

Faith: Well, when we went to go meet that boy? There was no boy.

Nikki: What do you mean?

Faith: It was a trick. Jordan -- the only friend that i thought I had -- was the one texting me, pretending to be him.

Nikki: Jordan, huh.

Faith: I just don't understand why she would be so mean.

Nikki: Well, it doesn't matter, because clearly she was never your friend to begin with. Otherwise, she would never have tried to trick you like this. She is no better than those bullies that you stood up to. So now that you know that, you can just leave her behind. And, honey, the pain that you're feeling, I promise you, it'll pass. I need you to understand that.

Naya: Are you okay?

Amanda: Yeah. It was a lot to take in -- your request, its connection to my past. I'm going to need a lot of time to think about this.

Naya: Of course. And thank you for giving it serious consideration. Whatever you decide, I'll understand. It will not change anything between us. No matter what, I want to continue to build our relationship. (Dad) you know, if we take that wrapper back to the store,

Amanda: I will contact you and let you know what I decide.

Naya: Okay, I hope to hear from you.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: That looked pretty intense.

Amanda: Yeah, you got that right. Naya told me some things that is gonna take me a while to process.

Devon: Well, I'm here. I'm meeting abby and mariah for dinner, but I'm early, so if you want to talk, I have time.

Amanda: I can'T. I can't, okay? Not yet.

Devon: I understand. Just know that whatever ends up happening between us, you can always trust and confide in me. I'm always gonna do whatever i can to help you. That's a promise.

Chelsea: Maybe this was always the way we were meant to end, adam. After all, I am a con artist at heart, and you're a liar who's always loved someone else. The day I thought you blew up in that cabin... that should've been the rightful end to you and me. That should have been the end. Everything that's happened since has been a mistake. I am so angry at the time I have wasted on you. Letting you break my heart again. It doesn't matter -- doesn't matter now, though, because I am finally free of you. I'm not sure how I'll tell connor what's happened, but I'll find a way, because he is my reason for living now. And we are gonna move on to the brightest, happiest future -- without you.

[ Chuckles ] There is no turning back now.

Rey: I convinced michael to get me a search warrant before adam had a chance to cover his tracks.

Sharon: Was he at the penthouse when you got there?

Rey: Yeah. But he ran while I was doing the search, because he knew what i would find -- the evidence that proves he's the sick bastard who put poison in my belongings.

Sharon: I don't know what to say.

Rey: Sharon, I need you to help me. You know adam better than anyone, apparently. Where he would run off to? Where would he go?

Nikki: Why don't we take a walk, get some fresh air?

Faith: I don't need to. I'm feeling better.

Nikki: Are you sure?

Faith: Yeah. I think I'm actually kind of hungry now.

Nikki: Well, that's a good sign. I'll have cook make something special for both of us, and then we can spend the rest of the afternoon doing anything you like. How about if we go shopping?

Faith: That sounds good. Thank you for listening to me.

Nikki: Darling, I will always be here for you. I love you.

Faith: I love you, too.

[ Crying ]

[ Sobbing ]

Next week on "the young and the restless"...

Chloe: You poisoned an innocent man, a police detective. And now thanks to you, suddenly, I'm an accessory to a major crime.

Nikki: A bottle of tequila is missing from our bar.

Sharon: You let my little girl get her hands on a bottle of alcohol?
