Episode #12071 ~ Sharon sits vigil at Rey's bedside. Jack presses Kyle for answers. Elena and Nate put their issues aside to help Rey.

Provided By Suzanne

Rey: Call dispatch. Kick the goal. Kick the goal.

Sharon: Oh. Rey? Rey, can you hear me? Rey, babe, I'm right here.

Nate: Hello, sharon.

Sharon: He's so restless. There must be something else i can do.

Nate: You've done it. His symptoms got worse and you brought him to the hospital.

Sharon: This is the last place he wanted to be.

Nate: But this is where he needs to be, where we can observe him and do further testing. You made the right call.

Sharon: Well, he just seems like he's getting worse. Now he's having nightmares.

Nate: I'll make sure he gets something to help him relax.

Sharon: Okay, thank you.

Nate: What about you? When's the last time you ate or slept? Took a minute for yourself?

Sharon: I'll do all of those things once I know rey's out of the woods. I'm fine, really.

Nate: Good, then you can keep me company now. I need a cup of coffee. Maybe some fresh air and a change of scenery will do us both some good.

Sharon: Okay. I want to make things right with us, too. So if we have to to counseling, and that's what it takes, I'm in. I will face my issues with adam, whatever I have to do. I want you to know deep down, i really love and appreciate you, and I don't know that you're feeling that right now, but it's true.

Rey: I love you, too, sharon. So much.

Chloe: Meredith?

Chelsea: Hey. She's not back yet.

Chloe: Oh, my god.

[ Chuckles ] Look at you. Are we all alone?

Chelsea: Yeah, yeah, it's just the two of us. So did you get it done?

Chloe: Yeah, of course.

Chelsea: And no one saw you?

Chloe: It's not the first time I've done something like this.

Chelsea: You truly are the best friend a girl could ask for. But you seem hesitant.

Chloe: The last shady thing I did was hide vegetables in bella's food. I mean, this was of a new magnitude.

Chelsea: You're not having second thoughts.

Chloe: Chels --

Chelsea: Because I need to know, chloe. Am I asking too much?

Chloe: You never need to ask that question. Helping you get away from adam is my dream come true.

Nate: Alright, what can I get you?

Sharon: Um, I don't really need anything.

Nate: You sure?

Sharon: Yeah, you go ahead.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Jack: Sally.

Sally: This will only take a minute.

Jack: We're gonna do another upgrade to my wardrobe?

Sally: Coffee delivery. Your assistant told me that you were getting ready to go into a meeting so I figured you could use a little caffeine.

Jack: You read my mind.

Sally: Yup.

Jack: Hey. You didn't have to do this, you know.

Sally: I told you I was the best. Gotta prove it.

Phyllis: Oh, come on, jack. Pick up.

[ Sighs ] Let's go, let's go, let's go. Ay-yi-yi. Hey, summer, I need to talk to you.

Summer: Hi. Okay.

Phyllis: Alright. I need you to do something for me.

Summer: Okay.

Phyllis: I need you to get more dirt on sally. I don't care what it is, just start shoveling, really, really, I need this. It's desperate times.

Summer: Mom, no, you know that kyle and I have declared a truce with sally. She doesn't poke us, so we don't poke her back, so if you start stirring up some trouble, there's a very good chance it'll come back to bite me.

Phyllis: Okay, I understand that you don't want this thing that kyle did, this affair, to be public knowledge, I get that. I know there's something more to the story. I want you to tell me.

Summer: Really? Something more than kyle sleeping with a vindictive billionaire's wife? Do you need more of a deterrent?

Phyllis: Yes. You're holding something back. Spill it now. Have you tried the 4 in 1 power of persil oxi discs?

Lola: So this is what it must have felt like to have the shoe was on the -- on the other foot, huh? When I was in the hospital, waiting for a liver donation. Completely hopeless, powerless, and ready to bargain with god. And speaking of the all powerful, I called mom. And I know. Before you start yelling at me, you know I had to call her. She threatened to jump on the next flight here and whip you back up into shape if you didn't get better fast. So you've got to beat this, okay? Because you know what mom's like when she gets into moods. Come on, bro. Just get better, okay? Please.

Elena: Lola. Hey. I just started my shift, so I'm not 100% up to speed. Are there any updates?

Lola: Nothing. Not that I'm aware of. Why is it taking them so long to figure out what's going on with him? And what are you looking at on that tablet?

Elena: About a few hundred notes, and I know all of this information is gonna lead nate to a diagnosis.

Lola: But what if he doesn't have enough time? What if --

Elena: Lo, he's in the best hands possible. Nate is gonna solve this. He will.

Nate: Everything alright?

Sharon: Yeah, it's fine.

Nate: Sure I can't get something for you?

Sharon: You know, all I can think about right now is rey.

Nate: Hey, hey, hey, that's my job.

Sharon: Well, shouldn't we get back to the hospital?

Nate: When I have a tough case on my hands, sometimes it helps to step away for a little while and think.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Sharon: It's faith. She wants to know how rey is doing.

Lola: Sharon said that she thought it was a stomach bug, like food poisoning, but with all his other symptoms, it just doesn't add up.

Sharon: I don't know what to text back. What should I say? "It's like food poisoning, only it isn't"? That would just worry her more.

Nate: I know it's frustrating, but we're on the right path.

Lola: Rey is never sick. And food poisoning? He's the textbook definition of a cast-iron stomach. I've been cooking for him since I was a little kid and those meals weren't all masterpieces. You know what else is really weird?

Elena: What?

Lola: Those pains.

Elena: What are you talking about?

Sharon: I have total confidence you're going to get to the bottom of this. I just want to know what we're missing.

Nate: That's my approach -- take the symptoms and eliminate the causes that don't fit. A solid diagnosis leads to an effective treatment.

Sharon: But what could be causing the pain in his legs and the burning in his feet?

Nate: I know you're concerned this could be neurological, and I'm not ruling anything out just yet. The trick is to find where those pains intersect with the symptoms...we've observed...

Lola: Rey was complaining about pains in his feet and his legs.

Elena: Like what, like cramping?

Lola: No, like shooting pain, like fire.

Elena: And you're sure it was in his legs and his feet?

Lola: Yes. Isn't that so random?

Elena: Hey, do you know where nate is?

Sharon: Nate, what is it?

Nate: Give me a minute. I want to check something out.

Summer: You're not gonna stop bugging me until I tell you.

Phyllis: No, I'm not.

Summer: Okay, fine. Okay, so that new york billionaire that kyle's so worried will retaliate? It's ashland locke, mom.

Phyllis: What? Tara locke, ugh. I mean, of all the women kyle could have had an affair with, he picks this guy's wife? Great, kyle. That is great.

Summer: Yep, exactly.

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] You know, I met him earlier. He's very, very sketchy. I mean, he was polite, he was very nice, but there's something going on with that guy. He's a major power player, and i believe that he's dangerous.

Summer: I know. So imagine if he found out about kyle's affair. He would start using kyle as target practice, mom.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Summer: Please just listen to me. Mom, you cannot use what we learned about sally in california because if you do, sally will go public with kyle's affair. And when she does? Ashland's not just gonna go after kyle. He's gonna go after everything and everyone that kyle cares about.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Kyle: Hi.

Tara: Kyle, are you alone? We have to talk.

Kyle: What's wrong?

Tara: [ Sighs ] Before I left genoa city, I told you that ashland didn't suspect anything about us, but now i think we might have a problem.

Kyle: Why?

Tara: He barely opened his mouth on the was back to new york.

Kyle: And that's unusual?

Tara: Yeah, he's only quiet when something's troubling him, and I'm worried that this particular "something" revolves around our relationship.

Kyle: Well, it's bias confirmation. You're hypersensitive because you were just here and we were both scared that he would find out.

Tara: I'm overthinking this.

Kyle: Not you. Never you. Totally out of character. Take a breath. Everything's fine.

Tara: You really think our secret's safe?

Kyle: I know so. We survived your visit, and we can both go back to our lives. We don't have anything to worry about.

Kyle: Just level with me. I've heard so many stories about ashland, but he seemed kind of nice.

Tara: He's perfectly pleasant until you do something he doesn't like. Make no mistake, kyle. If he finds out, he will crush you -- and me.

Kyle: So, we're kind of in this together.

Tara: Not at all. Ashland treats me well. And he's a wonderful father. I'm not gonna put the life i have or my child at risk by hurting him. Stay away, kyle. Stay far away.

Jack: Kyle, everything alright?

Kyle: Quarterly reports come out in a few days.

Jack: Want to tell me what's really going on?

Kyle: I am fine.

Jack: This has gone on far too long, son. Whatever this is, I am not here to judge you or blame you or tell you "I told you so." I'm here to help, because whatever this is, it's now interfering with your life, your work, your happiness.

Kyle: How many times do i have to tell you I'm handling it? Don't we have work to do around here?

Sally: Oh, good, you're back.

Jack: This isn't the perfect time, sally.

Sally: Lauren needs to see you. It's some kind of low-key fenmore's emergency.

Jack: Kyle and I are in the middle of --

Kyle: You should go help her out. I'm good.

Jack: We'll talk later?

Kyle: Yeah, sure. Need something?

Sally: Yeah, a play-by-play of what just went down between you and jack.

Kyle: Is that any of your business?

Sally: It might be -- if it was about me.

Kyle: Believe it or not, sally, my world does not revolve around you.

Sally: Well, it might be more fun if it did. Maybe you would actually change your opinion of me.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ]

Sally: What would it take to get you to trust me?

Kyle: A miracle.

Sally: Well, you better find a way to turn down the hate because I like it here. And I really like your dad. Which means I am not going anywhere.

Sharon: Rey is going to be fine. He's resting now. Nate and the nurses are taking really good care of him. I promise, faith, I will give him the very biggest hug from you.

Elena: Nate? Hey, can we talk?

Nate: Not now.

Elena: Actually, this can't wait.

Nate: I realize when I broke things off, it was pretty abrupt, and I don't blame you for wanting to have a conversation about it, but this is the worst possible time. I got a patient in icu and --

Elena: I know, you're talking about rey rosales. I just spoke with lola. That's why I'm here.

Nate: Go on.

Elena: I understand some of his symptoms have been a puzzling.

Nate: Yeah, I think I figured out why. Rey's been so sick because --

Elena: He's been poisoned.

Both: Thallium.

Chelsea: [ Exhales sharply ] Thank you. Thank you for having my back. I know a lot of this makes you uneasy.

Chloe: You can count on me. If I seem nervous at all, it's only because I have two kids at home who really need me.

Chelsea: Chloe, they are not gonna lose their mother.

[ Exhales sharply ] I have planned this thing down to the smallest detail, okay? I've had all the time in the world to do it. The only person who's gonna suffer any consequences is adam.

Chloe: Wait, you don't -- you don't mean that you're gonna --

Chelsea: Nothing that's gonna harm him physically. I'm just removing adam from my equation. And once that's done, once I'm free of him, I will reveal to everyone that I've recovered. And then I am going to go straight to connor and start a new life with him, without all of this extra weight that has been weighing us down for so long.

Chloe: That's all I've ever wanted for you.

[ Door opens ]

Adam: Chloe.

Chloe: Hey, perfect timing. Meredith had to step out, and i really need to get going.

Adam: Well, I'm sure chelsea was glad to have your company.

Chloe: Is everything okay?

Adam: Oh, I can talk about it with chelsea. Thanks.

Chloe: Yeah. I'll see you soon. Love you.

Adam: I, um... I don't even know how to say this, but something is going on, and I can't figure it out.

Chelsea: Gosh, sounds serious.

Adam: Someone is sending texts from my phone. And all of them are going to sharon. I don't know where they came from, but I didn't do this. I need for you to know that. I realize how this looks, but i didn't send them. You believe me, right? Texts make it look like I'm trying to get her back, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Chelsea: Impressive. That almost sounded believable.

Adam: I can't explain it. I wish I could. I don't know how this happens, but someone is messing with me. The question is who.

Chelsea: That's the million-dollar question, isn't it, adam? Who could have sent those texts?

Adam: At first, I thought someone had just gotten their hands on my phone, but I checked the times those texts were sent and I had it with me, so no one could have gotten their hands on this without my knowing.

Chelsea: You're keeping track of everything, except where it counts -- at home.

Adam: But let's consider the possibilities. Maybe... maybe I got hacked. Somebody could have sent those texts remotely and made it only appear to come from this phone. Right now, that's the only explanation that makes any sense. What I can't figure out is who would do something like that and why.

Chelsea: Solid questions, sherlock.

Adam: All I want is for you to get better. That, and working with victor to acquire that company is all I've been focusing on, so why would someone do this to me?

Chelsea: What a staggering lack of self-awareness.

Adam: It doesn't add up. And is it really realistic to think that a hacker could do something like that without leaving some sort of a trail?

Elena: I mean, I can't be sure that I'm right, but rey's symptoms -- the manifestation of gastrointestinal issues and nausea despite unremarkable lab results, plus the pain in his extremities. I mean, incredibly enough, it reminded me of a case that I had when I was a resident. The only reason I remembered it is because it was so unusual.

Nate: Yeah, incredibly rare.

Elena: Right. So what brought you to the same conclusion?

Nate: Well, I was talking to sharon about the strange convergence of symptoms, and it made me think about a conversation I had a while back with a colleague. Did some research online, and it all added up.

Elena: The weakness, the delirium --

Nate: I called the lab to get them to run additional tests. I'm sure they'll confirm my suspicions.

Elena: Well, that's why I had to find you, to tell you my suspicions, for rey's sake.

Nate: I'm glad you did. I mean, it's one thing to read about this in a medical journal, but to talk to someone who's seen this thing in a clinical setting, it's incredibly helpful.

Elena: So should we break the news to sharon?

Nate: Yeah.

Sharon: I'll call you later. Bye. What's going on? Please tell me you have good news.

Kyle: I'm not sure there's anything you can do to get me to trust you with my dad. I know you too well.

Sally: What if I told you the reasons why I was so attracted to jack.

Kyle: Mm, money and power. He has it, you want it.

Sally: Wrong. Jack is handsome, charming, thoughtful, sexy --

Kyle: Okay. Not interested in talking about my father's sex appeal with you, thanks.

Sally: Fair enough. But what if I assumed that the only thing that you found appealing about tara was her connection to one of the most powerful men in the world?

Kyle: I'm not discussing her with you.

Sally: Fine. I just happen to find a deep and meaningful friendship with a man who happens to be single. Unlike tara. We're just having fun. What is so wrong with that?

Kyle: Let me make a list.

Sally: You really think that it is impossible that jack and I could just actually like each other?

Kyle: I have read more believable science fiction.

Sally: Okay. Riddle me this. What if tara had been unattached when you two had hooked up?

Kyle: Look, I already told you --

Sally: What if -- no, what if there was nothing stopping you? What if there was no diamond on her finger, no husband, wouldn't you two still be together?

Kyle: I'm not having this conversation with you.

Sally: You've thought about that before, haven't you? Late at night, when summer is sleeping beside you, you've thought about what might have been, if things had only been just a little bit different, if tara had found a way to leave her husband, then the two of you would be together right now. Kyle, tara, and baby makes three.

Kyle: That's enough! This is the sound of an asthma attack...

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Sally: You know if I didn't know better, I'd swear I hit a nerve.

Kyle: For the last time, that boy is not my son.

Sally: Are you sure about that? And I'm not talking in, like, a wishful thinking kind of way, I mean scientifically.

Kyle: You are playing with fire. Baseless accusations like this can cause a lot of pain for young, innocent little children.

Sally: Okay, what is that quote again about protesting too much? Look, the funny thing about denial, kyle, is it doesn't make the problem go away.

Kyle: Do I have to remind you I am madly in love with summer?

Sally: Yeah, and that probably makes this that much worse, but I am not judging. Unlike you.

Kyle: You can't, because you have no idea what went on between me and tara.

Sally: Just like you have no clue about me and your father, so please stop interfering in my personal life. Get a handle on your own chaos, because between ashland and summer, you have got your hands full.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Poisoned? But how?

Nate: We have no way of knowing that right now.

Sharon: Thallium? I don't understand. How could he get so sick from something I've never even heard of before? Where does it come from?

Nate: We can discuss all of that after --

Sharon: Wait, have faith and I been exposed, too?

Elena: I know you have a lot of questions. We do, too, but for now --

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Nate: Hold on, hold on. I'm expecting a report back from the lab.

Sharon: More test results?

Nate: The numbers that just came back support our theory.

Sharon: Okay, well, what do we do? Is there a treatment to get the poison out of his body or stop it from causing more damage?

Nate: There is an antidote. It's called prussian blue. But it's not a commonly-used treatment and there's none available in town.

Sharon: Well, where is it? Tell me where it is. I'll get it.

Nate: I've already arranged for it to be sent by helicopter from chicago.

Sharon: So it's on its way?

Nate: As we speak.

Sharon: Oh, thank god.

Nate: When elena and i considered the symptoms and started thinking outside the box, we both came to the same conclusion. You were a big help. Thank you for talking it out with me.

Sharon: Thank you so much. This is -- this is the news we've been praying for.

Elena: We're just glad that we can find you some answers.

Sharon: Alright, I'm gonna get back to the hospital. I want to tell rey the good news.

Nate: Okay, I'll head with you. Elena?

Elena: I will catch up. I'm gonna make a phone call.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Lola: Hello? Yeah, I'm her with rey. Wait, say that again?

Adam: These are the same messages that showed up on my phone. Okay. My phone is synched with my tablet, right? Which means all the ones that go out on this, they show up on this, so maybe the texts didn't come from my phone after all. Has chloe been anywhere near this thing? Okay, that's a no. She's never been here alone. She's always with you. And as much as she hates my guts, she would never do that in front of you. But someone could have sent those messages from this tablet. And it would have to be someone who has access to my life. And my devices.

Chelsea: It doesn't make sense, does it? You can't even bring yourself to say it because it just couldn't be possible.

Adam: "I can't stop thinking about you. Please don't ignore me."

[ Sighs ] Well, maybe my phone or my tablet did get hacked after all. I mean, that is the only plausible scenario, right? The person who sent these has to be someone who knows sharon's been an issue for us.

Chelsea: "An issue"? That's what you're calling her now? And thanks to that photo, the whole town knows about the two of you, including me.

Adam: It's all in the past. I swear to you. It's just someone stirring up trouble. Chelsea, I need to ask you something, and I know it's gonna sound crazy. But do you know what this is all about? You have any idea who could have done this?

Nate: The antidote should be here soon.

Sharon: Thank god. Every moment seems like an eternity.

Nate: I know, but we're near the finish line.

Sharon: I shouldn't have wasted all those hours at home. I should have brought him right to the hospital. He could have died.

Nate: You got him here. That's all that matters. I saw the fight rey was putting up.

Sharon: He was dying, and it was my job to bring him here and I failed him.

Nate: You can't keep beating yourself up over this.

Sharon: That man was by my side from the moment I was diagnosed with cancer, through all my surgeries and my chemo treatment, and this is how i repay him.

Nate: You know how rare it is for someone to be poisoned? Sharon, you didn't do this to him. Half of his symptoms pointed to the flu or food poisoning, and his initial blood work didn't reveal any problems.

Sharon: I know, but --

Nate: You're supposed to have some kind of special power that can see what doctors can't? You got him here in time. You have nothing to feel guilty about.

Sharon: All I have now is questions. How did he get poisoned? And where did it come from? How could something like this even happen?

Nate: Sharon, sharon.

Sharon: How long has it been going on?

Nate: Sharon, deep breath. Okay? We are minutes away from administering a treatment. We can start answering all the hows and whys once rey is on the road to recovery.

Rey: [ Groans ]

Jack: Phyllis? Phyllis.

Phyllis: Oh! Jack. Don't just sneak up on a person like that, please.

Jack: I didn't -- you keep texting me. You want to talk, talk. (Clucking noises)

Phyllis: I mean, you didn't respond to my texts or my calls, so I didn't know whether or not to expect you.

Jack: I was busy at work. You didn't specify a deadline. I assumed it was an open-ended invitation.

Phyllis: Okay, well, if you would have responded, then --

Jack: I'm here now, phyllis. What do you want to talk about?

Phyllis: The point is moot.

Jack: So you just gave me a hard time about not coming sooner for nothing?

Phyllis: Yeah, it just worked itself out.

Jack: Just like that. This cryptic issue with which you blew up my phone.

Phyllis: Yes, it magically disappeared. You know, it happens sometimes. Sorry, I shouldn't have called you.

Jack: Okay, since I'm here, i have to ask, has summer maybe opened up to you?

Phyllis: About what?

Jack: About what's going on with kyle.

Phyllis: Um...well, you're the one who told me that kyle was having a hard time opening up to you.

Jack: I assumed he and summer were having problems. Now I think it's something deeper, something's eating away at him, and he won't open up to me about it.

Phyllis: Oh, well, I --

Jack: Has summer maybe said something to you?

Phyllis: No, nothing at all. She hasn't said anything.

Sally: Jack!

Jack: Oh, hi. I'll be right there. I assume we're done here.

Phyllis: Yeah, we're done. That's what I've been trying to tell you.

Summer: Okay, so what else did tara say when she called you?

Kyle: That's about it. She's just got a hunch something was wrong because ashland was uncharacteristically quiet all the way home.

Summer: Okay, but she doesn't have any actual proof that ashland knows the two of you have a history?

Kyle: I'm sure she's just overreacting. The guy could have been thinking about his next big business deal.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Summer: Who is it?

Kyle: It's a new york area code.

Summer: Hey, you talk to people in new york like 10 times a week. It could be supplier, investor, you know?

Kyle: You're -- you're right. Hello?

Kyle abbott?

Kyle: Yes?

Please hold for ashland locke.

Adam: I'm only asking because so little of this makes sense. Is there something I don't know? I mean, the aneurysm, the stroke -- it was my fault. I hate myself for what I did to you. And I hate myself for so many things. Your recovery, it has been really slow, even with help from the top specialists in the field. You should be much further along.
