Nate: I'm having the lab results expedited. We should have answers sometime today. That said, if the symptoms persist and rey still has a fever when he wakes up, get him to the hospital.

Ashland: I know, son. I'm coming back soon, I promise. But, hey, I'm bringing you back a big surprise.

[ Laughs ] No, no. I can't tell you what it is. You're just gonna have to wait till I get home to find out. I miss you, too, little man. Daddy loves you. Bye.

Phyllis: Hi. You must be ashland locke, right? You have stirred up a lot since you've been here in genoa city. It's very impressive.

Ashland: And you are?

Phyllis: I am the owner of this hotel.

Ashland: Ah.

Phyllis: I'm phyllis summers.

Ashland: Well, now it's my turn to be impressed. You have a spectacular place here. It's too bad I didn't get much of a chance to enjoy it with my wife. We'll be checking out later today.

Phyllis: I hope there's not a problem.

Ashland: No, no, no. Nothing like that. It's just my work will be done here soon.

Lily: So traci really loves this author, and I think that her writing sample is captivating. Have you read it? Billy?

Billy: No, I haven'T. I think we should let traci do what she needs to do. She knows best.

Lily: Yeah, but I think that we should give her some guidelines. Okay, you know what? Why don't we do this another time when you're more focused?

Billy: I'm sorry. I'm just -- I'm sitting here wondering if it's a good thing or a bad thing that ashland hasn't contacted us yet.

Lily: I'm sure that he will contact us soon. He doesn't seem like the kind of person that'll take too long to make a decision.

Billy: Yeah, strikes me the same way.

Lily: I'm really getting the feeling that there's more occupying your mind. You can't stop thinking about victoria and her confession, can you?

Nikki: Darling, what's wrong? Something is troubling you.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] It's not a big deal.

Nikki: I know you were confident about the pitch you made to ashland locke, but I'm wondering if maybe you're having second thoughts about jumping into this bidding war with adam and victor.

Victoria: No.

Nikki: Especially because you're only doing it to protect billy.

Victoria: I believe it was the right thing to do. And it's not just to protect billy. It's a sound business decision too.

Nikki: But something more complicated happened as a result, didn't it?

Victoria: Can we please just not talk about this right now?

Nikki: You told me that you said more to billy than you intended. What exactly did you say?

Victoria: I told him that i was still in love with him. Okay? There. Now you know.

Nikki: How did he respond?

Victoria: I didn't really give him a chance to respond. After the words slipped out of my mouth, I told him to forget it and that it didn't matter.

Nikki: That's a pretty hard thing to forget.

Victoria: Oh, god, mom. How could I have let myself lose control like that?

Nikki: Now, don't be so hard on yourself, victoria. I mean, this isn't numbers or spreadsheets we're talking about, it's love.

Victoria: Mom, please.

Nikki: Well, you two share children. You have a long history. Now billy's finally in a good place. His life is back on track. But all the time that you put in with him and everything that you two went through together...

Victoria: That is exactly what lily accused me of -- setting my sights on billy now that he's finally become the man that I want him to be, but i don't want any of this. I embrace getting older.

Billy: Good. And I didn't hesitate for a second to come and tell you that my ex happens to have feelings for me still.

Billy: I think the feeling she has right now is actually embarrassment.

Lily: See, you're doing it right now. You keep minimizing it, and i think it's because you don't want to face the difficult truth.

Billy: I think you're seeing something that's not there, okay? And it doesn't matter what victoria says or what she feels, I don't reciprocate it.

Lily: I think it's been proven that I'm not imagining things. I have been telling you for a very long time that victoria is doing everything she can to stay connected to you.

Billy: Okay, fine. What if she is?

Lily: And you let it happen. You let this become more than just co-parenting.

Billy: Well, I should have listened to your concerns.

Lily: But you didn't, and i think it's because part of you wanted it to happen. I think that you were enjoying having those warm family moments where it felt like old times.

Billy: Come on. I was enjoying hanging out with my kids.

Lily: Yeah, and victoria. I think that you might not be as over her as you claim to be. And I think that maybe you need to take some time and examine those feelings.

Billy: I don't need to examine anything. Lily, I love you, you know that.

Lily: Billy, I don't know if you know that. And until you do, I think that maybe we need to just take some time apart and not see each other outside of work.

Victoria: I swore I would never go down this road again with billy.

Nikki: I realize how frustrating this must be for you. You pride yourself on always being in control, but, by definition, love cannot be controlled.

Victoria: I never should've said anything in the first place. It was a momentary lapse in judgement. And he's made it very clear that he's moved on with lily.

Nikki: What do you think he would have said if you hadn't have told him to forget that you are still in love with him?

Victoria: We share children. That's it. I need to get some air. Hopefully, we'll hear from locke very soon.

[ Door closes ]

Amanda: Hey.

Nate: Hey.

Amanda: How are things going?

Nate: It is what it is.

Amanda: No, I meant, how are things going with you and elena? Listen, I can sense that there is some tension between the two of you, and you were a little evasive the last time I asked you about it before.

Nate: We broke up, okay?

Amanda: She broke up with you?

Nate: I told her I didn't want to see her anymore.

Amanda: Wait, I don't understand. The last time that we talked, you gave no indication that things were that bad. What happened?

Nate: From the beginning, things were just too complicated for us.

Amanda: Because of devon? Because she broke your cousin's heart, the man that she claimed to love? And probably still does.

Nate: Let's just say, things didn't work out the way I'd hoped. As for elena, I wouldn't presume to know what she's feeling.

Elena: Sorry to show up unannounced again.

Devon: It's fine. Why do you look upset?

Elena: Well, something happened that I thought you should know.

Devon: Okay.

Elena: After I left here, i ran into nate, and he wanted to talk about our relationship, which was terrible timing. I was in no condition to have that conversation, as you know.

Devon: Yeah, I do. I haven't felt like speaking to anybody.

Elena: Right. Well, he told me that he could see I was struggling and he wanted to make things easy for me. So he ended things. Just like that. No explanation. No discussion. Just done.

Devon: I don't know what to say. I'm sorry.

Elena: I didn't come here wanting you to take me back or expecting anything from you.

Devon: I can't help but feel partly responsible, though, for this.

Elena: No, no, I don't want you to feel guilty. What happened between us was mutual. We didn't mean for it to happen, and we certainly didn't mean to hurt anyone.

Devon: Yeah, I know, but we did hurt people.

Elena: I know. And I keep trying to sort it out in my head and figure out why it happened again and what the feelings that it stirred up really mean for both of us.

Devon: And now we have to deal with the fallout.

Elena: Right. That's why I thought I should tell you. Oh, also, I think I dropped my bracelet when I was here last.

Devon: Yeah, you did.

Elena: You found it. Thanks.

Devon: Yeah. I actually didn't find it. Amanda did.

Faith: Rey's just got some stomach thing, right?

Sharon: He thinks it might be something he ate. I'm hoping that it's nothing more serious, but I'm not gonna take any chances. I'm gonna have your dad take you to school today, and you can just stay there tonight if i have to take rey to the hospital.

Faith: Can I go to grandma and grandpa's instead? Dad's been great, but lately he's been even more overprotective than you.

Sharon: Well, I know that's coming from a place of love. You know, your dad and I are so proud of you for standing up and taking on those bullies.

Faith: Yeah, it does feel good to stand up to them. Maybe now they'll think twice before pulling that stuff on other kids.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Sharon: Everything okay?

Faith: Yeah, uh, just someone from school telling me I did a good thing.

Sharon: Well, it's good to know you have support there too.

Faith: Don't worry about me, mom. Just focus on taking care of rey. I'll let grandma know the plan.

Sharon: Good. I'm gonna stay in touch with you so that you know what's going on today.

Faith: Thank you. I'll walk up to the main house now.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Door closes ]

Sharon: Hey. You're awake. How're you feeling?

Rey: Uh, a little hungry. I'd like some of lola's soup.

Jack: Oh, there you are.

Billy: Hey, big brother. What brings you by?

Jack: Oh, I was wondering if you'd heard anything from ashland.

Billy: No, not yet.

Jack: Well, I had drinks with him last night. Gave me an opportunity to sing your praises.

Billy: Well, thanks for the endorsement. Did he happen to say which way he's leaning?

Jack: Unfortunately, no. Our friend is quite the enigma.

Billy: Yeah, that's one word for it.

Jack: How does lily feel about your chances?

Victoria: Lily.

Lily: Victoria.

Victoria: Today's the big day. Ashland's about to make his decision.

Lily: Yeah. I'm sure we'll find out who the winner is soon enough.

Victoria: Well, someone's fortunes are gonna change dramatically. My heart failure diagnosis changed my priorities.

Devon: Yeah, amanda came by to finalize a contract and saw that someone had slept on the couch. And then found your bracelet on the floor.

Elena: So what did you say?

Devon: I didn't say that we'd slept together.

Elena: Well, I mean, there's no reason to. It's not like it means what she would have imagined it meant.

Devon: Oh, I-I don't think she needs to imagine that things have changed between us. She's seen us together, closer than we've been.

Elena: Right. I mean, of course she noticed.

Devon: She even made a point to comment and say how nice it is that we've gotten to a place where you fell comfortable enough to confide in me.

Elena: Oh. So is that all she thinks it is?

Devon: I don't know. I imagine she suspects there's more to it. And I know I don't like being the one to make her feel like that. I know it's not fair, and I also don't want to mislead you into thinking that we have a future together right now.

Elena: Because you want a future with amanda.

Devon: I just feel like i should see where it goes, like you did with nate. And, also, the last thing I ever want to do is make you feel like I'm playing with your emotions, 'cause that's -- that's really never been my intention.

Elena: No. Look, I know that this is just as confusing for you as it has been for me. How could you not be? I guess we just shouldn't have tried for a second chance.

Devon: I didn't know we were trying for a second chance. I always thought we were just seeing if there was still something between us.

Elena: Okay. Well...[ Chuckles ] I wish you the best. And I hope you get all the happiness you deserve.

Victoria: So, have you -- have you heard anything on ashland's decision?

Lily: No, I think it's better to let you wonder.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Why? We're all in this together, aren't we?

Lily: Are we? 'Cause I was just wondering why you cut your own media division loose, had no interest in cyaxares, and then just decided to suddenly enter the bidding.

Victoria: Well, ashland's company also happens to be a very strong investment.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] I don't buy it. What's really behind your sudden decision?

Victoria: Things change. You know, this company, it's a completely different entity than the one that I sold to you, and it has real potential, especially under my leadership.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Well, I have a theory. And, I mean, you can tell me if I'm wrong, but I think there you are sitting in your newman tower, alone, and you finally had all of your dreams come true. You're ruling your own empire, but it's not enough for you, so, of course, you set your sight on cyaxares to fulfill your voracious appetite. And you only want the company, not because it's important to you, but because someone else might get it.

Victoria: No, that's -- that's not it at all. It's very important to me.

Lily: No, it's important to me. And you know that. I have put everything into chanccomm, into to making this company grow and thrive. You don't care about ashland's company. You don't need it. It's just a trophy for you.

Victoria: Obviously you don't know me as well as you think you do. You couldn't be more wrong. It is important. I don't make decisions like this on a whim. I think them through, and i consider all of my options for achieving my goals.

Lily: Really? Is that what you do?

Victoria: Yes, of course. Why do you think I'm so successful? Why do you think I'm so confident that I'm gonna come out on top?

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: What? You don't think I'm serious?

Lily: I think if you were really that confident, you wouldn't try so hard to convince me.

Adam: My sister made a pretty smart move in my opinion. By turning down your offer and making her own play for the company, it was -- it's all about gamesmanship.

Victor: Uh-huh. I made her ceo of my company. What else does she have to prove?

Adam: Victoria, she's always been the good daughter, the loyal one, her whole life, but i get why she made her move. She wanted to show you that she could do this deal on her own terms. And I got to admit, I admire her for it.

Victor: I'm surprised to hear you say that.

Adam: Dad, I know that this cuts deeper than you would like to admit. I know this is probably driving a wedge between you and victoria. Probably the whole family.

Victor: There'll be some tension, yes.

Adam: I'm sure they're appalled the way that you partnered with me like this.

Victoria: Hmm.

Adam: And I do not blame them after the way that I've hurt you, the damage I've done and have planned to do. It is appalling.

Victor: Son, I have respect for what you have gone through in your life. I know you had a tough time growing up. But I've always had faith that you would work it all out and evolve to be the man that you've become now. I've made it perfectly clear to everyone in the family that i will never turn my back on you. Ever.

Adam: I'm going to prove to everyone that you were right to believe in me. When it comes to laundry,

Billy: Lily and I knocked our pitch with ashland out of the park. She believes our chances are as good as I do.

Jack: I have no doubt you made a hell of an impression. You two complement each other. You each bring your own unique style and personality to the table. You're very lucky to have each other.

Billy: Yeah, I agree. We make a good team. I know I'm very lucky to have her by my side.

Jack: Ashland couldn't have better stewards of his company and he'd be crazy not to have chanccomm as his first choice.

Billy: Well, I appreciate that. I hope ashland feels the same.

Jack: Have you give any thought to how you might take it if you lose?

Billy: Well, I know what I'm supposed to do -- shake it off, believe that we did our best, and trust that chanccomm has a very bright future.

Jack: You and I both know if adam gets ahold of cyaxares, he's gonna use it to come after you.

Billy: Yeah, to come after me and this company. I would imagine that that is exactly adam and victor's motivation.

Jack: Are you prepared for that possibility? You got to have a game plan -- how you're gonna respond, or, more importantly, how you're not going to respond.

Billy: I see your point. I just don't want to think that way yet, you know?

Jack: This isn't just about you, billy. You have a partner in this, and not just a business partner. You're gonna have to think about how your reactions are going to affect lily.

Billy: Oh, trust me, jack, she's my number-one priority. I'm gonna do everything I have to do to protect her and make sure that she doesn't end up hurt.

Jack: Hi, lily. I was just on my way out. Good luck to both of you. May the news be good.

Billy: Thanks, jack.

Lily: So I went to clear my head and I ran into victoria. It was a very interesting conversation.

Billy: Oh?

Lily: Mm-hmm. And I think that if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that everything victoria does is calculated. I don't think it's an accident that she told you that she's in love with you.

Billy: Look, lily. I can't control what victoria feels or what she says, okay? All I can speak to is how i feel.

Lily: Yeah, billy, you need to hear this.

Billy: Hold on, I need to say this for a second. Look, it's been a very long time since I actually was proud of the person that I am, and i know how I feel, and I don't want to go backwards. I only want to go forward, with you. And I promise you that I'm gonna do everything I can to earn your trust so you believe in me, so we can believe in each other.

Nikki: Oh, dear. You look even more miserable than when you left.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] That's because I ran into lily of all people. And all we talked about was business, the cyaxares announcement, our expectations. We talked about everything, everything except for billy. In fact, we didn't even mention his name. Somehow, it was obvious that every word we said was about him.

Nikki: What do you mean?

Victoria: She knows that i admitted that I'm still in love with him. She didn't come right out and say it, but it's obvious that she's staking her claim. The battle lines were subtly drawn.

Nikki: You can't be surprised that billy told her. I mean, what did you expect to happen?

Victoria: The last thing i need right now is a lecture.

Nikki: Okay. So, what are you gonna do?

Victoria: I'll decide after ashland accepts my offer.

Amanda: Okay, devon. This is it. No more leading me on. No more playing games. I want answers. Honest answers. Don't I deserve that much?

Devon: Of course you do.

Amanda: Well, you told me you were working on closure with elena, but that you cared about me, that you wanted things to work with us.

Devon: And I mean that.

Amanda: But there's something going on with elena, isn't there? And it's more than you just being a good listener. Am I right?

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] God, it was so obvious. The sofa looking the way that it did, her bracelet on the floor. I knew that something was up. I could feel it. You slept with her, didn't you?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Amanda: And it wasn't the first time since we've been seeing each other, was it?

Devon: No, it happened one other time before.

Amanda: Wow. Complete honesty, finally. Was that so hard? Thank you.

Devon: Amanda, just hang on a second, okay? You want to know the truth, so you need to hear it all.

Amanda: Well, I don't know if I can handle anymore truth, devon.

Devon: Everything I said yesterday about you, I meant it.

Amanda: Okay, you need to stop.

Devon: Okay. When -- when things ended so bitterly between me and elena, it made us forget the part where we actually loved each other. And there's just a lot of unresolved issues still lingering between us.

Amanda: Yes, you said you needed closure. I guess now I know what you meant by that.

Devon: We know we're not going back to one another. Okay? That's not gonna happen. There's too much negative that's happened.

Amanda: But you still manage to sleep with her. Twice. I guess you needed to be absolutely sure, huh?

Devon: Amanda, I have nothing to say. I know it's bad. I know it's bad. It's all coming out wrong. I think that I just needed to be with her again to realize that she is my past and that I don't want to go back to my past. I want a future with you.

Amanda: You say that now, but what about when the two of you are together and those feelings start resurfacing? Are you gonna end up on that sofa again?

Devon: No, no. I know you're hurt. I know that you're disappointed, and I did that to you, and I'm sorry.

Amanda: No, no, no. It's all good. Because now I know who you are. So it's gonna be so much easier to get over you.

[ Door slams ]

Lola: Hey. You feeling better today, rooomie? Oh, no, what happened?

Elena: Two great men, and i manage to somehow lose them both.

Lola: Wait, you're telling me that it's over with both devon and nate?

Elena: Yep, and I have no one to blame but myself. I just couldn't figure out what I wanted. I ran away from devon, and then I ran back, and it was just too late.

Lola: Okay, and nate?

Elena: He patiently waited for me to figure out what i wanted until he got tired of waiting, so he told me that it was over. And honestly, who could blame him?

Lola: So, given that you are a kind and loving person...

Elena: How could you even say that?

Lola: You are a kind and loving person who makes mistakes. And they didn't just happen in a vacuum. You had help. You didn't do them alone. I mean, you weren't wrong to think that there was something going on with devon and amanda, because, clearly, there was an attraction there. And nate was the one who chose to act up on his feelings for you.

Elena: Yeah, when you put it that way...

Lola: Yes, you need to stop saying that this is all your fault because it just isn'T. And if this is tough and it's causing you this heartache and pain, then maybe these men are just not good for you. Maybe this is what's best.

Elena: You really think so?

Lola: My mom always says that things happen for a reason.

Elena: You always know just what to say to make me feel better.

Lola: That's what friends are for. I'm gonna go check on my sous chef.

Elena: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Hey, girl! Haven't --

Amanda: I need you to explain to me how I got myself into another messed-up relationship that was doomed for failure.

Phyllis: Uh, okay. First of all, I don't know what happened, but it's not a reflection on you.

Amanda: No, no. There is no escaping the fact that I have a habit of making terrible choices when it comes to men.

Phyllis: Okay, we all do that until we stop doing it.

Amanda: I live my life so cautiously, carefully calculating every single decision that I make. I hold myself and the men that i date to the highest standards. I meet ripley. I try to be cautious. He rips my life apart.

Phyllis: Listen, you're not gonna blame yourself for that. He was crazy. He was a stalker.

Amanda: Okay, okay. Then I go for the handsome doctor. More caution, we're taking it slow. What happens? He sleeps with his cousin's girlfriend.

Phyllis: Hey, come on. You couldn't have seen that coming.

Amanda: Okay, well, then I go for devon, the next guy that i care about. And he -- never mind. I'm just hopeless at this.

Phyllis: Can I say something, please? You know, when I went into this thing with nick again, I was oh, so cautious. I wasn't gonna do the same thing, but I mean, for real, I'm just helplessly in love with him.

Amanda: Well, I guess that's the good news.

Phyllis: Wait a sec, what do you mean by you hope it's good news?

Amanda: I wasn't hopelessly in love with him...yet.

[ Sighs ] But I think I was getting there. I feel like I was holding myself back out of fear of rejection or getting in too deep, too fast and getting it all wrong again. I was trying to make sure that i was important, and now I just look like a damn fool.

Phyllis: You're not a fool. You're incredible. Devon is the fool, that he cannot see that you are an amazing woman.

Sharon: Your fever is still way too high.

Rey: It'll pass.

Sharon: Well, I'm worried. You couldn't even eat anything because you can't swallow.

Rey: Worst stomach bug I've ever had. Sorry you're stuck taking care of me.

Sharon: Are you kidding? Do you know how many times you held my hand through chemo sessions, doctor's appointments? You were my rock, and I'm gonna be yours. I'm gonna get you through this.

Rey: Suspect's heading to south beach. He's headed to the drop.

Sharon: What did you say?

Rey: Where's backup? No, there's no time to call.

Sharon: Okay, alright, that's it. Everything's gonna be okay. I'm here, rey.

Rey: No. Stop. Stop. (Asaad) when I was little,

Phyllis: Please stop thinking that you're the cause of all of it.

Amanda: Phyllis, phyllis, i know what you're trying to do, but the facts are --

Phyllis: I'll tell you what the facts are -- you're gorgeous, you're so intelligent, you're strong. Not only that, look at everything that you've accomplished in your life just on sheer determination and skill.

Amanda: Well, I have come to terms with what happened with devon. And the bottom line is I'm not gonna want somebody who doesn't want me.

Phyllis: Okay, well, i wouldn't be so sure about that.

Devon: Amanda, will you please hear me out?

Ashland: Tara, you might want to head back to the hotel. We'll be leaving here soon. I've accomplished what I came here to do. I've made my decision.

Nikki: So, victoria, tell me, did your impromptu chat with lily change your strategy?

Victoria: About what?

Nikki: Cyaxares media. Using it to protect billy and chanccomm from adam and victor should you win the bid.

Lily: Billy, I do believe in you. I've proven that time and time again, but I can't keep ignoring what's happening with victoria.

Billy: There's nothing happening with victoria, lily.

Lily: I think that you're in denial. I mean, first, she tells you that she's in love with you, and then she pretty much tells me that she's coming after you.

Adam: If ashland accepts our bid, we should move some line items in the budget to allocate for a publicity blitz. There's gonna be a lot of hot buzz around victor newman's first acquisition, independent of newman enterprises. What? You hate that idea?

Victor: No. No, no, no. I'm glad you're thinking ahead, son. Because we are going to be successful, you know that.

Adam: And what makes you so certain?

Victor: I believe in you. It's that simple.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Adam: It's ashland. He's made a decision.

Billy: I don't know how many times I have to say this, but it doesn't matter what victoria does or says or how she comes after me. She can't do or say anything to come between us.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Ashland's made his decision. We're about to find out what it is.

Victoria: He's made up his mind. We'll know soon enough who the winner is.

Sharon: I don't know what else to do for him, nate. His fever still hasn't come down. A few minutes ago, he was delirious. I'm really worried.

Rey: Sharon, what are you talking about? I'm -- I'm fine now. Really.

Sharon: Do you feel strong enough to walk to the car?

Rey: I think so, but...

Sharon: Nate, we will meet you at the hospital. Bye.

Rey: I don't need to go to the hospital.

Sharon: Yes, you do. Come on, we're going. Rey? Rey! Oh, god. Yes, I need an ambulance right away!
