Episode #12065 ~ The Newman and Abbott feud is reignited. Kyle covers his tracks. Ashland Locke arrives in Genoa City.

Provided By Suzanne

Sally: I just wanted to drop off a little something for mrs. Martinez to thank her for the delicious dinner that she made the other night. I did not expect to see you here.

Jack: Well, I chose to work from home this morning, and lucky for me, that means I get to see you.

Sally: Any fallout from our kiss at crimson lights?

Jack: I'd like to think kyle knows better than to bring that up, but I haven't seen him since.

Sally: So I guess that means he hasn't told you about why he canceled his new york trip?

Jack: No. And it's strange. Normally we have this open line of communication, and somehow i feel he's holding something back.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Well, maybe that means whatever was bothering him has gone away.

Summer: Hey, kyle.

Kyle: Hey.

Summer: Hey.

Kyle: Did your meeting end early?

Summer: Yeah, yeah. Uh, what are you doing down here?

Kyle: I was just going to the desk to ask if a certain guest had checked in yet.

Summer: What, ashland locke and tara checking in today?

Kyle: They should be here any minute.

Ashland: Hello. I'm ashland locke. We have, uh, bags in the car out front. Why don't you get them for us?

Billy: I'm glad you liked the pitch, mom. Yeah, and we were able to work in some of those notes that you gave, so I think it made it better. Thank you for that. Thank you for the last-minute support, as well. No. I think we're in good shape. Yeah, jack is 100% on board with the financing, and I will call you as soon as we are done. Okay. Love you, too.

[ Exhaling sharply ]

[ Clears throat ]

[ Sighs ] We have significant resources, but we are still lean and mean enough to function like a start-up. We can take big swings, but in a measured, deliberate way. Hi. How'd I sound?

Lily: Well, I mean, whatever you're selling, I'm buying.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: You were captivating. And I don't just mean the shower we took together earlier.

Victoria: Oh. Working lunch?

Victor: As a matter of fact, we are, yes.

Victoria: Adam. How is chelsea doing today?

Adam: Thanks for asking. She's progressing.

Victoria: Good. Very good. So, what time are you making your pitch to locke?

Victor: Well, sweetheart, as someone who was broached with the same subject by me and expressed disinterest, how come you're suddenly so interested?

Victoria: It's a big deal. I would be interested even if i didn't know the participants. It's not like you've been keeping it a big secret.

Victor: Why should I keep it a secret? Ashland locke is in town. Adam is about to make the pitch.

Victoria: Was this news to you?

Adam: What, that I'm about to make the pitch within the hour?

Victoria: No. That dad brought it to me first. You were his second choice.

Victor: You really seem to be enjoying yourself. Why'd you come here? What's the point? (Sharon) suction out your tube before you eat.

Billy: I didn't say anything you haven't heard before.

Lily: Wow. You're being so modest. No, I watched you for a while before you saw me. You were really good.

Billy: Well, you might be a little biased.

Lily: Well, that's true. But I can still see a winning approach. But I'm surprised you were practicing at all. I thought you wanted it to be spontaneous.

Billy: Well, like a good musician, you got to practice a little bit to sound spontaneous.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] So, how do you feel? Do you feel ready?

Billy: I do. I feel good about it. What do you think our chances are?

Lily: Well, I mean, going up against the newmans -- that name holds a lot of weight. But I like being the underdog in this fight.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Funny that a company with jack abbott backing it would be considered an underdog, but i get your point.

Lily: No, I know that we've had a lot of success, but this is a whole different level. So if we can pull this off, if we can get locke to sell to us, then we'll be a force to be reckoned with and no one can doubt us as a team. No one.

Victoria: Well, I certainly didn't mean to cause any trouble. I just wanted to come by and wish you luck and ask you what you thought your odds were.

Victor: Well, we shall see.

Victoria: Adam, you must be looking forward to going toe-to-toe with billy.

Adam: [ Sighs ] It really doesn't matter who the competition is. But now that you mention it, billy did use his new media company to declare war on me, so I guess I would be justified in wanting to win control of a company that would allow me to do the same thing to him.

Victoria: Oh, my goodness. You are going to such great lengths to level the playing field.

Adam: Well, defeating billy -- it's not the entirety of my motivation, not all of it, and I'm really sorry if the father of your children is affected by that, but I guess that's how it goes, right? All's fair in love and business.

Victoria: You two -- you seem very confident.

Victor: Well, darling, did you expect otherwise?

Adam: Look, I'm sure chancellor communications has made a strong bid for the property, but I highly doubt ashland locke's gonna turn down an offer from newman.

Victoria: You know what? That's a really good point. I hadn't thought of that.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Are you going to help us?

Kyle: Uh...

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. I-I don't work here.

Ashland: Oh. I see. Uh, can anyone help us with our luggage?

Summer: Um, yeah, I can find someone that will help you.

Ashland: You're an employee of this hotel?

Summer: No. My mom owns it.

Tara: Ashland, I already spoke to the valet outside.

Ashland: You look familiar.

Tara: Ashland, let's go. Let's go.

Ashland: You're john abbott's grandson -- kyle.

Kyle: That's right.

Ashland: Ah. I saw a photo of you in forbes. I never forget a face. I knew your grandfather. A good, decent man.

Kyle: He was. And you're right, mr. Locke. I am kyle abbott. Pleasure to meet you. And this is my girlfriend, summer newman.

Ashland: Summer. Lovely name. I'm meeting with a couple newmans today.

Summer: Oh. Well, I'm sure one of them would be my grandfather -- victor.

Ashland: Right. Yeah, I, uh, only know him by reputation, but I'm looking forward to making his acquaintance. This is my wife -- tara.

Tara: Nice to meet you.

Summer: Hi.

Tara: Hi.

Kyle: Welcome to genoa city.

Summer: Uh, are you gonna be staying long?

Ashland: I hope not.

Tara: Ash is just in town for a few meetings, to close this deal. Then we're gonna hurry back home to our son. He's 3 and does not do good on planes. We hate being away from him.

Ashland: The joys and sorrows of parenting. I've never experienced anything like it. You have so much to look forward to. Our son says,

Sally: Mrs. Martinez is so sweet.

Jack: You're pretty sweet yourself. That was very thoughtful.

Sally: Well, I brought her some really great scorpion peppers, so expect some heat in your scrambled eggs tomorrow.

Jack: I'll look forward to that.

Sally: And she gave me a couple of aspirin, which was a very great trade because I am still so sore from ice skating.

Jack: The only cure for that is getting back out there.

Sally: I knew you were gonna say that.

Jack: It's true. I mean it. Look, you were adamant about wanting to improve your ice-skating form.

Sally: You know, I've been rethinking that, and my winter sport might be something more along the lines of a good, old-fashioned snowball fight.

Jack: Really? Well, we have some snow on the yard. Maybe we could get into a little one-on-one right now.

Sally: I'm gonna have to take a rain check -- a snow check -- because I have to get to work.

Jack: If you say so.

Sally: Do you think I am chicken?

Jack: Did I say -- no, you said that.

Sally: I am not afraid. I just have a meeting to get to.

Jack: Next time, I guess.

Sally: You know, I wasn't expecting...this.

Jack: I wasn't expecting this, either.

Sally: I think it's that unexpected, spontaneous feeling that makes it so exciting.

Jack: I agree. Of course you may change your mind once I whup you in a snowball fight.

Sally: You sound pretty confident.

Jack: I'm a pretty confident man. Bye.

Ashland: Thank you. Well, it was nice meeting you twO.

Kyle: Likewise, mr. Locke.

Ashland: You know, I did a deal with your grandfather 25, 30 years ago. I was just a kid of course. I remember john as a man of integrity, stubborn integrity.

Summer: So is kyle.

Ashland: Well, it must run in the family. The abbotts have been on my mind lately. In addition to meeting with members of your family, summer, I'll be meeting with billy abbott.

Kyle: Ah. That's my uncle. I hope you have a good meeting.

Ashland: Well, there's no such thing as a bad meeting, merely successful or unsuccessful. If your uncle has done his homework, he has a shot. The key is to always go into a situation knowing everything about everyone involved.

Kyle: Words of wisdom.

Summer: Yeah. Kyle, we better head to the office.

Tara: Yeah, and we need to head up to our suite and get settled in.

Kyle: I hope you enjoy your stay.

Ashland: Cheers.

Summer: Mm. Wow. What a charmer.

Kyle: Mm, yeah. Killer with a smile.

Victoria: You know, you may have the advantage of name recognition, but your offer -- it isn't coming from newman enterprises.

Victor: Well, sweetheart, it won't make any difference, you know. I'm victor newman. I founded the damn company. Ashland locke knows that.

Victoria: Yes, but he might see it as a red flag. Why couldn't you get the company behind your offer?

Adam: Well, good thing we're not pitching to you then.

Victoria: Good luck.

Adam: Maybe we'll call you when we find out. You could be the first one to congratulate us.

Victoria: Oh, I'm sure I'll hear all about it. I'll see you later.

Victor: Bye, sweetheart. Feeling stressed in your skin?

Kyle: There's no way ashland suspected anything, right?

Summer: No. You were great.

Kyle: Yeah. I hope so because at a couple points, I thought he could see right through me.

Summer: You know, to be honest, I wasn't looking at him. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. The woman that you risked everything to have an affair with.

Kyle: Yeah, well, at the time, I wasn't thinking about the risks, and when it was over, I never thought I'd have to look back, but here we are.

Summer: Here we are.

Kyle: Please, uh, don't worry about tara. You need to know I love you and only you.

Summer: Yeah, I know that. It's just a stressful situation.

Kyle: Yeah, and we got through it.

Summer: Yeah, we did, but...

Kyle: But what?

[ Door opens ]

Jack: Am I interrupting?

Tara: Yes. Alright. If I can get in earlier, that would be great, but I'll take the 2:00. Tara locke. The hot stone massage, please. Thank you.

Sally: Excuse me. Tara? Tara locke?

Tara: Do I know you?

Sally: Oh, no. Sorry. I am just a fan of your line of shoes. You are so talented.

Tara: Oh. Thank you. They're a big hit in paris, but not that many americans are aware of them.

Tara: Well, I am actually a designer, as well, so I make it a point in reading all the international fashion magazines, and I saw an article on your brand. Not to, like, fan-girl or anything, but your designs really inspire me.

Tara: That's very kind of you. Thank you.

Sally: Sally. Sally spectra. You know, actually, I think we might have a friend in common.

Tara: Who?

Sally: Kyle abbott. He was working out of new york like three or four years ago. I think you two might have traveled in the same circles. And he actually used to talk about a friend named tara.

Tara: You're mistaken. By coincidence, I have met kyle abbott, but it was today, here in this lobby, when my husband struck up a conversation with him.

Sally: My mistake. Must have been a different tara.

[ Chuckles ] Sorry for the misunderstanding. You know, actually, I would love to learn more about your adventures in the fashion industry. Can I buy you a latte?

Tara: I'm not sure I have time, actually. I have a massage scheduled.

Sally: I will have you back before your appointment, and i promise you I will give you so many compliments, it will be more rejuvenating than your massage.

Tara: [ Chuckles ] I guess i could use a latte.

Sally: Okay.

Victoria: Thank you so much for meeting with us.

Billy: And welcome to genoa city. We appreciate you coming all this way.

Ashland: Ah, well, it just made sense since all of my most intriguing potential buyers are based here. It's been an entertaining trip so far. We can into your nephew down in the lobby.

Billy: Kyle. I hope we don't have another competitor in the race.

Ashland: Well, no bid from the young man yet, but I enjoyed chatting with him and summer. Now let's get to it, shall we?

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: [ Clears throat ]

Ashland: You need to know how much cyaxares means to me. It's been my baby for decades now, and, uh, your job is to convince me why I should, uh, sell you my company.

Lily: Yes, of course. Well, I'm gonna leave this here for you. This is just some details of our financial offer.

Billy: The boring stuff. The numbers. What I think you want to hear is the heart of our proposal.

Ashland: Absolutely.

Billy: Well, let us just start by saying that cyaxares is a crown jewel of the media industry, and we will do everything we can to maintain the reputation.

Lily: While planning for the future, and chanccomm has the resources to do that.

Billy: And the courage to make big, bold decisions when it comes to entering new markets and new arenas.

Lily: And we know that making those decisions but also knowing how to execute them is the way to innovate.

Billy: And that innovation is what will allow your company to not only survive, but flourish.

Lily: And, you know, we really pride ourselves on being able to spot where the world is moving next.

Billy: Every decision we make will be done with both our heads and our hearts. We believe that's the winning strategy for cyaxares to succeed for decades to come.

Ashland: That's very nice. Thank you for the effort. I can tell you put a lot of work into your pitch.

Lily: Thank you. Yeah. Do you have any questions for us?

Ashland: [ Clears throat ] A couple. Billy, are you still gambling? I do all kinds of research before a meeting like this. Lily, I also know that you've overcome some tragedies in your life.

Lily: Yes, I have.

Ashland: But, billy, your story is less heroic. Gambling has always been a weakness for you, hasn't it?

Billy: I've had my issues. But if you don't mind me saying, ashland, I'm assuming that you're a bit of a gambler yourself.

Ashland: Oh. And what gives you that impression?

Billy: Well, you grew your company from nothing into a major player. Now, I would think that there was a few gambles along the way.

Ashland: You have a point, which is why the company means so much to me and why any deal i have on the table to sell it will be contingent upon me keeping a seat on the board.

Lily: Yes, of course. We want this to be a partnership, so we want you to be involved.

Ashland: That's lovely.

Lily: Um, well, we know you're on a tight schedule, so we won't overstay our welcome.

Billy: Uh, before we go, if you don't mind, there may be one thing that your research didn't uncover.

Ashland: Mm? And what would that be?

Billy: Our competitors' motivations. It's one thing to look up newman's biographical information, but we know them. And I can tell you their offers are tangled up in family dramas and politics. They don't really care about cyaxares. It's simply a trophy to lord over for them. They don't really worry about growing your company the way we do. Now, trust me, ashland. We respect you. We admire your company, which is why there's only one pitch that you're gonna hear today that is worth your consideration, and that's ours. These are real people, not actors,

"The young and the restless"

will continue. What if sun-maid raisins were just the beginning?

Billy: I think that went alright. What do you think?

Lily: Yeah, I thought it was excellent.

Billy: I was a little bit worried about what I said at the end.

Lily: What, about the newmans being more concerned with going after each other than his company? That was perfect.

Billy: I just hope it wasn't a mistake.

Lily: Why are you second-guessing yourself?

Billy: Well, as long as you're not upset with me.

Lily: No. I thought we made a great first impression.

Billy: Oh, the b-team has arrived.

Victor: Well, my goodness. Lily, how nice to see you.

Lily: You too.

Victor: I assume you just had a meeting with ashland locke.

Lily: Yeah, we just wrapped up.

Victor: Oh, yeah.

Adam: I was expecting some bravado, something along the lines of, "don't waste your time up there."

Billy: Well, if you want me to say something, I will give you a piece of advice. I suggest you wear name tags so ashland can keep track of all the newmans that are parading through his room.

Adam: There are only two of us.

Billy: Right. Right. Well, maybe it's because you're all so charismatic, it seems like there's more of you. How are you, victor? Must have stung when victoria turned you down.

Victor: I'll see you in my rearview mirror.

Adam: We'll let you know when the deal closes. Maybe we'll invite you to the launch party.

Lily: Okay, either they don't know about victoria, or they're covering.

Billy: They have no idea. And I would do anything to see the look on their face when they find out.

Summer: No, of course you're not interrupting.

Kyle: What's up?

Jack: Well, I was going over your third-quarter sales projections.

Kyle: Mm, looks good, doesn't it?

Jack: Yeah. Maybe too good.

Kyle: What do you mean?

Jack: Well, somehow you included the east asia market twice.

Kyle: Ooh. I'll fix it.

Jack: Please don't minimize this.

Kyle: You're right, dad. I should have caught it.

Jack: This on top of the errors with the marketing budget last week makes me wonder what has you so distracted. I know I've asked this before, but is something wrong? Is something going on?

Summer: Um, you know, kyle and I just had an argument, and I think he's still feeling a little guilty, which I told him there's nothing to worry about, you know, 'cause there's nothing that we can't get through as a couple, right?

Jack: Well, things like that happen, but you don't bring that to work with you.

Kyle: I'm sorry, dad. It won't happen again. Did you know ashland locke's in town?

Jack: Yeah.

Kyle: And he's taking meetings, one of which with billy?

Jack: I am backing billy. And I don't envy him. Locke can be a pain to deal with.

Summer: Uh, you know, yeah, we actually ran into him at the grand phoenix, and he said that he did business with john years ago.

Jack: Is that right? Did he mention how contentious it was?

Summer: No. He actually made it seem like they were quite friendly.

Jack: Well, I guess in the end maybe they were. This is how the story goes. Locke had acquired a major conglomerate. He wanted it because they made satellites. But he also got a bank that owned a major jabot loan. So locke saw the opportunity there and started gathering up jabot's debt to try to leverage a buyout and squeeze dad.

Summer: Well, what did john do?

Jack: Well, he rolled up his sleeves and got to work. He started scraping any money he could get his hands on, collecting favors, re-engineering how things work here, even dug into his own money to pay the debt early. He walked himself to locke's office, who looked him in the eye and handed him a check. Locke was foiled, but impressed.

Kyle: Yeah, he seemed to admire grandpa.

Jack: Yeah, I think that's probably why he didn't do his traditional thing and try to crush him.

Kyle: Mm.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Jack: Oh. Oh, excuse me. I got to take this. This is jack.

[ Door closes ]

Kyle: The last thing I needed was another story about how ruthless ashland is.

Summer: I know, but he's not gonna find out. Tara's not gonna say anything.

Kyle: That's true, but I'm still a little rattled. I need to clear my head. I'm gonna go for a walk.

Summer: Okay. I can go with you.

Kyle: No. I need to be alone for a little while.

Sally: So, when you design shoes, do you picture the outfit that goes with it?

Tara: I imagine the woman who wears them. My target customer is savvy and successful, interested in setting trends, not following them.

Sally: Well, there are plenty of woman in genoa city who fit that description. Is that what brought you here?

Tara: Oh, no. I'm just accompanying my husband -- ashland. He's here to negotiate a business deal.

Sally: Do you go on all of his business trips?

Tara: A lot of them. We're close, and it's nice to get away together.

Sally: Wow. A relationship that actually works.

Tara: Are you married, sally?

Sally: No. Still a free agent. Maybe someday, I hope. I don't know if I'll go on all my husband's business trips, though.

Tara: Yeah. Ashland doesn't like me too far away.

Sally: I see. You know, someday I would like to meet this famous ashland locke.

Tara: I don't think that's gonna happen, unless you have a multimillion-dollar business deal you want to discuss.

Sally: Well, who knows? Maybe someday.

[ Chuckles ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Tara: Oh, really? Tell me more about that.

Sally: Well, I am the junior director of internet marketing right now, but I am so ready to get back to designing.

Ah, a package!

Sally: You know, I always felt like there was too much emphasis on form over function when it came to shoes.

Tara: Totally agree. I mean, how many times have i found a beautiful pair of heels only to discover i can't walk in them? And that was the motivation for creating my own line.

Sally: Well, I want to hear more about that, but first i need a refill. Do you want anything?

Tara: No. I'm good. Thank you.

Sally: Okay.

Kyle: What the hell are you doing?

Sally: Oh, no. Are you upset? Refill, please.

Kyle: No games. This is serious. You know who that is, don't you?

Sally: No. Tell me.

Kyle: Sally, why are you talking to her?

Sally: Tara and I have a lot in common, okay? Like shoes and... well, mostly just the shoes.

Kyle: Damn it, no more games. What is going on?

Sally: You know, this might come as a surprise to you, kyle, but not everything is about you, okay? We are talking about design, not cheating.

Kyle: Oh.

Sally: And you might like to know that she's actually acting like she has no idea who you are.

Kyle: Mm, so you're fishing for information about me?

Sally: You would have done the same thing if the situation was reversed.

Kyle: Mnh-mnh. Don't try to turn this into another power play.

Sally: Relax, okay? I'm just making a connection. I'm working it. Honest. But, you know, I could tell everything I know to her and ashland. But I won'T... under one condition.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] What's that?

Sally: Back off. Jack and I like each other. Just let us see where it goes. Okay, well, I will give you time to think about that while I wrap up with my new bestie tara. We'll probably exchange phone numbers. Don't you think that's a good idea?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Billy: So, what do you say? Celebratory drink?

Lily: Uh, no. I think we should get back to the office. We can celebrate later tonight.

Billy: Yeah, I'm just gonna stick around till victoria shows up. Just a simple hello, let her know that I'm feeling confident. Can I get a, uh, scotch neat, please?

Lily: Okay, and that's a good idea because why?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Mark our territory.

Lily: Didn't you just tell ashland that's what the newmans were doing?

Billy: Oh, this is different. Victoria knows that I want this company, and yet she still took the meeting. I want her to know that my eyes are wide open, maybe even throw her off a little bit.

Lily: Right. I don't think she scares that easily.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] It's worth a shot.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Okay. Well, I'm gonna pass, so have fun with your ex.

Billy: Hey. You were amazing today. Really. We make a great team.

Lily: We sure do, mr. Abbott. Bye.

Billy: Bye.

Ashland: Victor, I'm interested to hear you how you will apply the famous newman touch to cyaxares media.

Victor: Well, ashland, I need to clear something up. This is not an offer from newman enterprises, you know. I have stepped back from the company. I've handed over the reins to my daughter -- victoria. However, for the potential acquisition of this magnificent company of yours, I've teamed up with my very capable son adam. Son, why don't you take over?

Adam: Now, I am certain that this offer is more substantial than our competitors. But that is not the only reason why we are a better fit for cyaxares. We're not folding your company into an existing entity. We're gonna create something new, and cyaxares will our sole focus. And if it should ever need a cash infusion to ensure it stays competitive, I can assure you that will not be a problem. What victor and I bring to the table is the best of both worlds. If you want the aggressiveness of a start-up and a no-holds-barred approach, you have that in me. You want the seasoned experience of newman enterprises, you have that in my father. Together, we are the perfect package. And we're a family. I know that means something to you.

Kyle: We should talk.

Adam: So, that is our personal pledge to you, ashland. We will keep cyaxares aggressive, hard-hitting, and dominant.

Ashland: Let me tell you my concern. I do a lot of research for meetings like this, and it didn't take me long to find out some troubling things about you, adam. Matter of fact, your competitor published most of them.

Adam: Yes, I, um --

[ Chuckles ] I'm aware of the exposé. To be frank, it was a hit piece. But I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like all those claims aren't true. I wouldn't insult your intelligence like that.

Victor: Now, ashland, I don't think it is very important what adam has or has not done in the past. What is important, however, is that through his trials and tribulations, he has become a very strong person. I think he'll be ideally suited to run your magnificent company, if we get to acquire it.

Ashland: Well, I'm rather impressed by the way you're standing up for your son. But does this mean that the great victor newman will be taking a back seat to his child?

Victor: [ Chuckling ] What it means, obviously, is that I will look over his shoulder, you know.

Adam: Hey, and who better an advisor than my father? Me at the helm, my father by my side, and you on the board, ashland. We can't lose.

Ashland: Yes. The potential for world domination is staggering.

Victor: Now, I suggest that you give the chanccomm bid due consideration, alright? And once you have done that, you give me a call and we make a deal.

Ashland: Well, you may have to wait longer than you think.

Victor: Mm? Why is that?

Ashland: I still have one more pitch to hear today.

Victor: Oh. I didn't know there was a third bidder involved.

Ashland: Oh, uh... I'm a little surprised. After all, the potential buyer is your daughter -- victoria. (Geri) I smoked and I have copd.

Jack: Kyle's gone?

Sally: Yeah, yeah. He'll be right back. Uh, do you need something?

Jack: No. I'm just worried about him. I mean, the canceled trip to new york, the mistakes he's making around here. He just seems distracted, and I'm -- I didn't buy your story about the two of you having an argument.

Summer: I mean, I was telling the truth. We really did have an argument. Um, but we worked through it 'cause there's nothing that we can't get through as a couple, right?

Jack: He's very lucky to have you in his life.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Sally: There you are. So, I was thinking that maybe we should go shopping tonight after work. Maybe another jacket or a sweater for our next snowball fight? My first wardrobe suggestion worked out great, so there's a lot more where that came from.

Tara: You shouldn't be here.

Kyle: Why? I get the sense your husband wouldn't be caught dead in a place like this.

Tara: I gave you fair warning I was coming to town with him. And yet you still managed to cross us.

Kyle: That was a surprise. Does ashland suspect anything?

Tara: No. But why take the chance? And if we have another accidental run-in, I don't want to hear harrison's name.

Kyle: Well, ashland's the one who couldn't stop talking about him.

Tara: And I saw something in your eyes when he did. You need to forget that I even have a son.

Kyle: Okay. Just -- just level with me. I've heard so many stories about ashland, but he seemed kind of nice.

Tara: He's perfectly pleasant until you do something he doesn't like. Make no mistake, kyle. If he finds out, he will crush you -- and me.

Kyle: So, we're kind of in this together.

Tara: Not at all. Ashland treats me well. And he's a wonderful father. I'm not gonna put the life i have or my child at risk by hurting him. Stay away, kyle. Stay far away.

Billy: Suite 602. Ashland's room? Suite 602.

Victoria: Thank you very much. I suppose that you and lily have been up there already?

Billy: We have, yeah. It went very well.

Victoria: Well, I'm not surprised. But I -- I do have some advice. I think you should withdraw now. That's why I let you know that i was bidding on newman's behalf. Look, you're gonna lose anyway.

Billy: Well, I think you should be the one to step aside, victoria.

Victoria: Why would I do that, silly? I have the winning proposal.

Billy: No. I'm sure it's great. But I'll give you a piece of advice, too. Ashland is gonna see through your motivation. This isn't about business for you. This is about getting back at your father and your brother.

Victoria: Very close, but not quite. First of all, it's a good deal. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here in the first place. And secondly, yes, there is a personal element in it for me, but it's not what you think.

Billy: So tell me why you're doing this, then.

Victoria: I want to... I want to protect you.

Billy: Protect me?

Victoria: If they acquire cyaxares media, they're gonna go after you and chanccomm with everything that they've got. And I know that you and lily have the resources to hold adam and dad off for a while, but ultimately they're going to crush you, billy.

Billy: [ Clears throat ]

Victor: Well, now, what a surprise.

Victoria: Well, just wait until mr. Locke accepts my proposal. Then everybody will be more surprised.

Billy: May the best person not named newman win.

Ashland: The meetings are going well. How's your afternoon going?

Tara: Uh, not as expected, but productive.

Ashland: Good. Well, I have one more meeting and then all I have to do is make up my mind and then we can head back to new york.

Tara: I'm looking forward to it.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: I'll see you soon.

Tara: [ Sighs ]

Ashland: Please come in.

Victoria: Thank you.

Ashland: It's a pleasure to meet another member of the newman family.

[ Door closes ] The prettiest one, I imagine.

Victoria: Oh, no, that would be my brother nicholas. I'm the brains of the family.

Ashland: Of course you are. Please have a seat.

Victoria: This is the financial component of the offer. I am assuming that you're going to find this to be the most generous of the three.

Ashland: Oh, you may be right. But that's not the only component in play. I want to be sure that my company is going to the right buyer.

Victoria: Oh, I totally understand. That's why I want to explain why newman is the perfect fit.

Ashland: You know, I'm impressed. I thought you would have a whole team with you. You're the only bidder to come alone.

Victoria: I don't need backup.

Ashland: Either that, or you don't play well with others.

Victoria: Oh, no, I play great with others. They just don't like it when i win. But that's their problem, isn't it?

Ashland: Now, is that what you'll tell victor if I choose your proposal over his?

Victoria: Mr. Locke, i really, really like to win, and I'll bet that you do, too. You know, my father -- he raised our entire family to value competition. It was just something that we honed at a very young age. Sometimes we -- we go up against outsiders. Sometimes we go up against each other. We're just used to it.

Ashland: Interesting parenting philosophy.

Victoria: You have a son, don't you?

Ashland: Harrison. Although at present, he's a little young to compete with me.

Victoria: Well, as I said, i know all about family competition. And when I said I like to win, i couldn't mean that more than i do right here and right now.
